The thing about filmmaker John Sayles is that he has done everything. Do you love Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial or Tobe Hooper's Poltergeist? Sayles' unmade screenplay Night Skies is a piece of the source code for both classics. How about The Big Chill? Sayles' lovely Return of the Secaucus 7 (which he wrote and directed) investigated the curdling of the baby boomers' American dream long before Lawrence Kasdan took a crack at it. The man has been essential to the evolution of nearly every genre of American film, in one way or another. Ahead of TIFF Cinematheque's retrospective Declarations of Independence: The Cinema of John Sayles (curated by Adam Nayman and beginning this Thursday), we spoke with Sayles about this series and how they selected which films to screen. We also touch on his (hopefully) next film I Passed This Way, working with James Cameron, and which noir classics he's caught up with recently. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego facing King Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue reveals four declarations of unshakable faith. These Hebrew men demonstrated that true faith isn't about getting what we want from God, but trusting Him because He's worthy. Their response teaches us to serve God joyfully regardless of outcomes, believe in His ability even when He doesn't intervene as expected, refuse to compromise our convictions under pressure, and trust that He will be with us whether He delivers us from trials or walks with us through them. Faith is proven before the trial hits, not after the miracle occurs.

Most people don't realize they have a ceiling on their success. Not a skill ceiling. A preference ceiling. Brendon Burchard calls it the complexity ceiling, and it's the invisible line where your comfort wins over your vision. The highest performers in the world share one non-negotiable: their preferences never outrank their aspirational self. They don't wait to feel ready. They generate the feeling they need and act from that place. Brendon introduces his FREE framework (Feeling, Responsibility, Expression, Expansion), a four-part system for creating your internal state on purpose, every day, regardless of what's hitting you from the outside. It's the methodology he breaks down fully in High Performance Habits. Lewis and Brendon also go deep on what happens when you succeed beyond what you believed was possible, and why that moment can trigger imposter syndrome or total emptiness if your belief never caught up to your achievement. This one is about becoming the person your future self already is. It starts with one question: does your preference win today, or does your vision? * You can get the sermon note sheet at: https://family-bible-church.org/2026Messages/26May10.pdf * In our study of the book of Ecclesiastes, we have seen that though Solomon began his reign with a heart for YHWH and seeking His wisdom, he allowed his heart to be turned away from YHWH by his foreign wives to the point that he began to worship false gods. * Solomon's apostasy was revealed in his secular, temporal philosophy of life and his pursuit of self-pleasure. * Today, we will consider how Solomon's apostasy also affected the wisdom that God had graciously and supernaturally granted him. * In our portion of Scripture we see the contrast between the wise and the fool. However, not always are those who are considered wise truly "wise" from a Biblical perspective. * Before we consider the Declarations of Solomon regarding wisdom, the wise, and the foolish, we will want to consider the definition of the Hebrew terms and the Difference between worldly wisdom and heavenly wisdom. * This message was presented by Bob Corbin on May 10, 2026 at Family Bible Church in Martinez, Georgia.

Today's discourse elucidates the pressing issue of wildfire preparedness amid a backdrop of alarming statistics: 17,006 wildfires have already incinerated over 1.6 million acres this year. The National Interagency Fire Center has reported a national preparedness level of 2, with 16 significant fires remaining uncontained and nearly 1,800 personnel engaged in suppression efforts. Concurrently, we explore critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities, notably a recently identified flaw in Google Chrome, which underscores the urgency for federal agencies to adhere to an impending remediation deadline. Furthermore, we examine the severe weather patterns currently affecting the central United States, including the potential for devastating thunderstorms and a late-season winter storm. As we navigate through these multifaceted challenges, it is imperative to remain vigilant and informed.Takeaways:* The National Interagency Fire Center reports an alarming number of wildfires across the nation, totaling over 17,000 incidents this year.* Federal agencies must address a newly identified Google Chrome vulnerability before the impending April 15 deadline.* Severe weather is anticipated across multiple regions, particularly strong thunderstorms and potential tornadoes in the Midwest.* A state of energy emergency has been declared in Michigan due to soaring gas prices linked to global oil market disruptions.* FEMA assistance applications for disaster relief in Alaska are due by 11:59 PM local time today, emphasizing urgency.* Recent winter storms have caused hazardous conditions across the Midwest, leading to widespread travel disruptions and school closures.SourcesNIFC / Wildfires* NIFC Incident Management Situation Report — April 2, 2026* NIFC National Fire News* InciWeb — Wildland Fire Information PortalCISA* CISA adds one KEV — CVE-2026-5281 Chrome zero-day (April 1)* CISA flags Apple, Craft CMS, Laravel bugs — patching deadline April 3* CISA Emergency Directive 26-03 — Cisco SD-WAN systems* CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities CatalogFEMA* FEMA — One more day to apply for disaster assistance (April 2)* FEMA — Assistance deadline extended to April 3* FEMA Disaster 4699 — AlaskaNWS / NOAA* SPC Convective Outlooks* NOAA Weather Prediction CenterUSGS* USGS Significant Earthquakes — 2026* USGS Kilauea Volcano Updates* Alaska Volcano ObservatoryDHS / State Department* DHS National Terrorism Advisory System* State Department Travel Advisories* State Department Worldwide Caution* U.S. Embassy Baghdad Security Alert — April 2, 2026FDA* FDA Recalls, Market Withdrawals & Safety AlertsAlaska* KDLG — April 3 deadline to apply for October 2025 storm reliefCalifornia* USGS earthquake details — M4.6 Boulder Creek* ABC News — 4.6 magnitude earthquake rattles Northern CaliforniaHawaii* Hawaii News Now — State awaits Presidential Disaster Declaration* Governor Josh Green — April 2026 messageMichigan* Executive Order 2026-4 — State of Energy Emergency* Washington Examiner — Whitmer declares energy emergencyMinnesota / Wisconsin* The Watchers — Winter storm ice, snow Upper Midwest* The Watchers — Second winter storm intensifiesNebraska* KNLV — Statewide burn ban lifted* WOWT — Governor lifts burn ban as wildfire risk subsides* KSNB — Ashby and Minor fires near full containmentNew Mexico* NM Fire Info — Current incidents and restrictionsSevere Weather (Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas)* Cabarrus Weekly — Iowa, Illinois, Missouri severe storm threat Friday* Washington Post — Severe storms possible from Texas to Illinois* Fox Weather — Midwest tornado threatVirginia* 12 On Your Side — Colonial Heights boil water advisory This is a public episode. Brendon Burchard shares a powerful truth most high performers miss: creating significant life changes is more dependent on an understanding of sociology than psychology. While personal discipline and habits matter, the real breakthroughs happen when you surround yourself with people who see possibilities in you that you don't yet see in yourself. You're likely stuck not because something is wrong with you, but because you're an A player performing on a B field. The path forward isn't about working harder or gaining more information. It's about investing in the right rooms, whether that's a mastermind, a volunteer group, or a team that elevates your thinking and challenges your timeline for what's possible. The Greatness Playbook: The Network is Net Worth EditionBrendon's books:The Millionaire Messenger: Make a Difference and a Fortune Sharing Your AdviceThe Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives That Make You Feel AliveThe Motivation Manifesto: 9 Declarations to Claim Your Personal PowerLife's Golden Ticket: A Story About Second ChancesHigh Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That WayThe High Performance PlannerIn this episode you will:Unlock the proximity audit framework to identify which relationships expand you and which ones drain your potentialDiscover why sociology is more powerful than psychology when creating breakthrough moments in your business and lifeTransform from showing up as your minimal self to consistently embodying your aspirational self in every areaBreak through the plateau that comes from relying solely on personal discipline and self-improvement tacticsMaster the art of making strategic bets on yourself by investing in rooms where excellence is the standardFor more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1887For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960More SOG episodes we think you'll love:Lewis Howes [SOLO]Brené BrownTony Robbins Get more from Lewis!
