Hawkeye football greats Tavian Banks, Tim Dwight, & Rodney Filer join for the hour
Tim Dwight made a name for himself early on around Iowa City, Iowa. Having set multiple Iowa all-time records in separate track events, it's safe to say he's one of the greatest athletes to have ever competed in the state of Iowa. Drafted into the National Football League in the fourth round of the 1998 NFL Draft, Tim went on to return a kickoff for a touchdown in Super Bowl XXXIII, becoming only the fifth player in NFL history to accomplish such a feat. We dove into the lessons learned during Tim's playing time and what life had been like in the limelight of a decade-long professional career. Today, Tim is a staunch advocate of solar energy. After an opportunity presented itself in 2008, Tim has invested his time, energy, and resources into growing solar power capabilities within the state of Iowa and abroad. Hear us chat about customer cost savings, sustainability, grid securing energy, and how Tim is trying to give back to the state that has given him so much.

The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman sat down with Kirk Ferentz and had a one-on-one interview after his July 30 news conference on the review of his program for racial disparities and mistreatment of players. This is called “pole position,” and the On Iowa Podcast soaked in it. This discussion is the first part of the podcast. Obviously, it’s an ongoing situation. The conclusion is that there really is no conclusion. This is going to have to be an ongoing period of self-reflection for everyone who cares about Iowa football. The Big Ten released its 2020 football schedule this week. We’re at 50/50 on if the season begins Sept. 5. There will be a season. Too many people are committed to it. What kind of season? Well, the opt-outs are coming in heavy for the Big Ten. During our podcast, news broke that former Iowa City West prep Oliver Martin is in the transfer portal. Everyone, try to be cool here. Martin just happened to transfer into the best Iowa wide receiving corps since the Hayden Fry days or maybe ever. (We think very highly of the Hawkeyes’ wide receivers. The top four is … this is a better overall receiving corps than when Iowa had Tim Dwight.) It’s a longie (about two hours). Thanks for listening!
Bill Blank and Erick Zamora fill in for Chris and along with Ross Peterson they start the show out talking about stories where people meet their heroes, mostly evolving into Tim Dwight stories. Then the Grandview Wrestling coach Nick Mitchell joins the program and we conclude the hour chatting with the new hire for Hoover; former Dowling Catholic star Tyrone Tyler.
