Welcome to the Thursday Show. Evan and Bonnie have some entertaining radio for you today. Joe Catrombone, President of The Stuart/Martin Chamber is here with an update, and Captain Randy Segal has his Space Report as well.
Erick Zamora kicks off the third hour with the Des Moines Register's Tommy Birch to break down the NLCS, the ALCS and what kind of an offseason we're looking at for MLB. Then the Des Moines Buccaneers' head coach Matt Curley joins the program to talk about the Bucs 5-0 perfect start to the season. To end the show Zamora gives his thoughts on tonight's Thursday Night Football game with Denver at Cleveland.
On a Thirsty Thursday Chris gets into the 4 at 4 including big conference realignment news out of the American Conference before he heads up to Ames to go see Ron White, but not before giving the BetRivers Parlay. Then Erick Zamora interviews Iowa Wild Head Coach Tim Army ahead of their home opener tomorrow vs. the Rockford IceHogs.
On a Thirsty Thursday Chris Williams and Erick Zamora talk a little ISU vs OSU and then quickly get into their teams as the Braves lead the Dodgers 3-1 in the NLCS and they both agree Los Angeles seems to be running on fumes. Then Coastal Carolina losing causes that storyline to disappear and while Williams is disappointed, Zamora questions if most casual sports fans even care. Then Eric Heft from Cyclone Radio Network joins to preview the Cyclones game vs Oklahoma State and touch on ISU's basketball squad.
On a Thirsty Thursday from Ken's Not So Secret Speakeasy the guys chat about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Philadelphia Eagles and Ross points out he knows what the word "copious" means. Chris then hates on Thursday Night Football and the death of great college games on Thursdays, they talk all sports on tonight, Kyrie Irving being a pain in the ass and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in Chris' Quick Hits, which turns into a Long Hit. The guys also talk drinking at taprooms, controversy in Saved by the Bell, they give out the BetRivers parlay and some hot WNBA takes. Then during Ross' Roulette we take a look at the odds of candidates as the next Las Vegas Raiders head coach.
The guys kick off the second hour discussing tonight's decisive Game 5 of the NLDS with Andrew Down's Giants hosting Erick Zamora's evil Dodgers. That leads Chris into a rant about what's wrong with Major League Baseball and spoiler alert: it's money and the rich getting richer. The guys also talk about yelling at players and refs, yelling at the red hat guy and Zamora explaining what the hockey version is of the red hat guy. They also get into promos, the Barenaked Ladies, and the Buccaneers at Eagles.
On a Thirsty Thursday from Ken's Not So Secret Speakeasy the guys kick off the show talking about James Franklin, we hear the audio of him clapping back at Kirk Ferentz, and whether or not Penn State was faking injuries. They also chat with Bruno and John from Confluence and end the hour taking calls on Scubagate.
The guys kick off the show chatting with a dentist who helps them pronounce one of the National days that it is and explains it, which leads to a Seinfeld reference. The guys then give an Astros update, an NBA lawsuit update, and an Urban Meyers' wife's Twitter account update. Then in almost a Ross' Roulette-ish segment, the guys chat fireworks and a Jan Michaelson story about Pete Rose. To end the show Chris and Ross recap last night's MLB Wild Card game and what the center of the field, court, diamond is called in each sport.
Ray Cole and Rob Gray stay in studio for hour two to chat about their book "Hangin' with Winners" and talk about life, great interviews like Diane Sawyer and a little conference realignment. Then Audrey Snyder from The Athletic to talk about Penn State ahead of their game Saturday vs. Iowa.
The guys start the show off trying to find the White Sox - Astros game on TV and keep the audience up to date throughout the hour before getting into last night's National League Wild Card game and putting it in perspective. They also chat Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright, if they're Hall of Famers, and look back at the trade that sent Wainwright to the Cardinals from the Braves. Then Ray Cole and Rob Gray join the show in studio to discuss their book "Hangin' with Winnners."
Emery Songer, Cody Goodwin and Erick Zamora start the third hour off playing a game of "Who Would You Rather Have" pitting two NFL QBs against one another. Emery quickly gets into whether the race to the finish will be better in the NFL or MLB. Then Jared Stansbury joins the program to preview Cyclone Insider tonight and the guys give their way too early Super Bowl picks.
Emery Songer, Cody Goodwin and Erick Zamora navigate the four at four which includes sports' broadcasting deals, Frank Thomas leading a group that buys the Field of Dreams and the NBA being affected by certain cities' vaccine rules. Zamora puts together a BetRivers parlay for the night then Emery breaks the news of the Super Bowl halftime show being announced and the guys look back at the last decade plus of halftime shows.
Emery Songer and the Des Moines Register's Cody Goodwin sit in and along with Erick Zamora the guys break down MLB vs NFL and where one gets it right while the other gets it wrong. They also talk about Thursday Night NFL, college football on Friday and if we like those stand alone situations. Emery's a big lover of animals and asks the guys their favorite animal at the zoo and then the Iowa Cubs' broadcaster Alex Cohen joins to talk I-Cubs and MLB.
Chris starts off the show talking about the big punting matchup between Iowa's Tory Taylor and Colorado State's Ryan Stonehouse. Then the guys get into discussing some kids' sports with Chris coaching his daughter's soccer team and Ross' son playing football. Then to end the show the Des Moines Register's Cody Goodwin joins Ross to talk about the University of Iowa being the first power five school to add women's wrestling and what impact this could have on other schools, sports, and how Title IX factors in.
The guys talk about what to look for in tonight's Thursday Night Football game of Carolina vs Houston and that leads to a discussion about rooting for players with shady histories like Deshaun Watson. An abbreviated and late 4 at 4 gets squeezed in with some talk of Tom Brady and a record he may set in New England and wondering if Ben Simmons is a baby. Then John Walters comes on and after talking about his children's book "Cy's Perfect Day: The Iowa State Way" he breaks down Iowa State's start to the Big 12 season.
Ross and Chris start out the show talking about how crazy it was an Alabama player spilled the beans on how Nick Saban loves "Deez" jokes.... maybe TOO much. Then Bruno and Mindy Toyne come in to talk beer and Oktoberfest. The guys finish the first hour talking about college football.
The guys talk about what Joe O'Donnell has meant to Des Moines hockey as he takes the Minnesota Wild play-by-play gig and discuss the idea of Cam Newton possibly going to Washington and if that makes sense. Zamora talks about the tight race his Dodgers are in in the National League West and a caller talks about how his Giants have struggled against San Diego lately. To end the hour Ross plays Ross' Roulette with Nathan Fischer which includes Ryan Fitzpatrick's possible real injury.
So... after talking all things with Chad Leistikow about the Hawkeyes we realize Ross forgot to ask Chad about Luka Garza so the guys talk about his rumored new deal and how well he's been playing in the summer league. The guys also talk about the Hawkeyes football squad and get into how good they are or could be. The boys preview the Thursday Night Football game, producer Nathan Fischer chats about his Chiefs' narrow win over Cleveland, and Zamora finishes off the hour with his BetRivers Parlay.
Joe O'Donnell joins the program to kick off the show and talk about the news that he has been named the radio voice of the Minnesota Wild in the NHL. Then Ross and Zamora chat with Bruno about a bunch of things, including all these shortages of products. Chad Leistikow also joins to talk all things Hawkeyes.
Erick Zamora fills in for Andrew Downs and after they talk about the new NHL gig for Joe O'Donnell they chat Monday vs Thursday Night Football and Dan Wetzel's NFL opening week roster notes. Also Ettore Ewen's WWE accolades confused Kirk Ferentz. After What's Buggin' Andy and Guess Whose Birthday the guys have a lot of topics including the Boz, the Nebraska/Oklahoma game, and marijuana in sports. Throwdowns gests into Urban Meyer maybe going to USC, if the Hawkeyes or Cyclones have a better chance of getting upset this weekend and mask vs vaccine debates.
The guys start the hour off talking about who is liked and disliked by which of their family members before getting into Quick Hits. Then Chris, Ross and particularly Erick get into where they were on September 11th, 2001 and how it affected them and everyone going forward. To end the hour the guys do a little Ross' Roulette.
The guys kick off another hour of heavy college football talk including the latest with the hatred between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. Nick Saban gets his moment in the sun as we listen to how he wasn't too thrilled with how Alabama practiced this week. And in fake news Gary Barta allegedly puts out a cease and desist on a color the University of Iowa discovered. To end the hour Ross and Zamora preview tonight's Cowboys at Buccaneers game, talk about the Rays and Dodgers new smart move in baseball, and put together the BetRivers Parlay.
The guys talk all things college football and get heavily into the weeds with all things college football and the Cy-Hawk game. Then comedian and The Late Show host Stephen Colbert may have gone too far with a joke regarding the Kinnick Wave and the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Dave Bartoo of College Football Matrix chats Cy-Hawk and other interesting college football matchups this weekend.

The 4 at 4 kicks off with us learning the Pac 12 won't expand, TV revenue Brett McMurphy's bowl projections and the CFB matchups. Then they got into the over/under for a number of college football teams and Chris makes a case for some good wagers to make. Then Bruno and Mason from Jasper Winery come in to talk alcohol and a special event at The Library before they end the hour talking about the crazy story of how Steve Perry got into Journey with the Journey vs Ace of Base conversation continuing.
The guys kick off the show talking about UNLV and then Zamora talks about staying up until 3 a.m. to watch the end of the Dodgers at Padres game and Ross brings up some crazy stats including the Golden Sombrero. After Derek from New Sharon calls in and that sparks a conversation about Donnie Baker and the guys get back into the conversation of Ace of Base vs Journey. Then John Miller joins the conversation to get his thoughts on the musical debate before getting into college football, the Alliance and the University of Iowa.

Then Teresa Ceretti from El Bait Shop comes in and shows just how well she knows Ross and Chris by picking out beers for them before they order those very beers.
On a Thirsty Thursday the guys start out talking heavily about the Field of Dreams game tonight and chat about the game in Dyersville tonight. They also get into NFL preseason and the new documentary "Malice in the Palace" which gets into Ron Artest/Metta World Peace, Jermaine O'Neal and Puff Daddy/P. Diddy. Then Mark Hanrahan chats from the Field of Dreams game and talks about the experience. Then a familiar caller joins the BetRivers parlay and requests his Braves get involved in the parlay, which also includes NFL preseason too.
