The view down South Broad Street from Washington Avenue to City Hall is iconic. But an op-ed in The Philadelphia Inquirer criticizing the new planters smack in the middle of the street raises a host of questions about our beautiful thoroughfare. Host Trenae Nuri, executive producer Matt Katz, and Fae Ehsan, a nonprofit professional and board member at 5th Square Advocacy, discuss the view down Broad. They also talk about how QR codes are everywhere these days after being discovered by city agencies – and they guess the prices of Philly home listings. An unassuming sidewalk is something we tread on daily, but rarely give it a second thought. Yet it sits at the crossroads of property rights, local democracy, public health, climate resilience, and urban planning. On this intriguing episode of Mountain Money, co-hosts Roger Goldman and Kevin Kennedy sit down with Michael Pollack, professor of law at the Cardozo School of Law and author of Sidewalk Nation: Life and Law of America's Most Overlooked Resource. Pollack breaks down why putting the financial burden of sidewalk repairs on adjacent property owners is an inequitable "sidewalk roulette," how cities like Denver are reforming public space management through voter referendums, and why simplifying municipal oversight into a dedicated "Department of Sidewalks" could unlock tremendous economic and social value for communities across the country.

Tim Jenkins, Cheating at Roulette with an Atari Computer Tim Jenkins is the author of several humorous memoirs: "Missions Accomplished: And some funny business along the way", "More Missions Accomplished: And a lot more funny business", and "Business Missions Accomplished: Silly travel tales on the corporate dime". I wanted to talk to Tim about one chapter in his 2018 book More Missions Accomplished: the chapter is titled "Gaming the System" and it tells the tale of him trying to cheat a roulette using his Atari 800 computer. A brief excerpt from that chapter: "Las Vegas — 1989. Shortly after the dawn of the personal computer revolution, opportunity beckoned. Some people wrote software and sold it over retail counters. Others launched services that harnessed the databasing and processing power of the PC to help people find a job, a date, or other people with the same interests. I put my own Atari 800 computer to work simulating roulette. ... If you kept increasing your bet every time you lost a spin of the wheel, eventually your number would come up: The question was, would you earn back all the money you'd previously lost and make a profit? Yes. That is, you would if you did not first run into the table limit. ... How to get there without hitting the max bet? That's what I set out to simulate on my Atari computer. ... The program showed this to be a winning strategy, if perfectly executed." This interview took place on May 22, 2025. Summer road trips sound relaxing… until this crew gets involved.Today's episode starts innocently enough with everyone sharing their summer travel plans. Arkansas suddenly becomes the hottest college destination nobody expected, Michigan's crystal-clear water gets hyped like the Caribbean, and then WalletHub drops a bombshell ranking the best and worst states for road trips. Somehow Missouri lands near the bottom thanks to safety concerns, and suddenly everyone is defending their favorite states like they're running for governor. Then things get weird.A hypothetical question sends the entire room into chaos: How much money would it take for you to live in Rhode Island and never leave? Some people are perfectly happy with seafood and lighthouses for a cool five million dollars. Others need hundreds of millions to compensate for never seeing another professional sports team again. Somehow this turns into discussions about private jets, concerts, and whether rollerblading in a Dunkin' parking lot counts as entertainment.Because this is a daily comedy show, the conversation naturally takes another hard left turn into the worst names parents have ever given their children. The gang debates names like Lester, Bertha, Eunice, Gaylord, Todd, and Hortense, with strong opinions about which names deserve comebacks and which ones sound more like plumbing parts than human beings.Along the way, there are hot takes on old-school names, celebrity confusion involving Vin Diesel's actual name, memories of cool people named Wanda, and enough sarcasm to fill several road trips. This daily comedy show somehow manages to combine travel rankings, financial planning, retirement fantasies, and naming conventions into one giant, ridiculous conversation that only The Rizzuto Show could turn into entertainment. So buckle up, lock your doors if you're driving through Missouri, and enjoy another daily comedy show filled with road trip debates, celebrity confusion, and the kind of weird discussions that happen when friends with microphones have entirely too much free time.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
