Welcome to a new week here on the Retirement Quick Tips podcast! I'm your host, Ashley Micciche. This week on the podcast, we're looking at private equity and cryptocurrencies as investment options in your 401k - is this a big opportunity or a hard pass? On August 7, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order titled Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors. This order paves the way for allowing 401(k) plans to include alternative investments like cryptocurrency and private investments in 401(k) plans. Which begs the question: Is this a good idea for investors? Alternatives and private investments have a track record of higher fees, illiquidity, and higher risk for investors. Their complexity could create problems and additional risks for investors if 401(k) plan trustees eventually move to add these investments to their plan offerings. So let's explore this a little more, because you might see these options popping up in your 401ks in the near future, and it's important to think through the potential benefits and risks so you can make the right decision about how to invest your 401k for your retirement. Next Monday, I'll be back with a new theme - at this point, the Fed will almost certainly lower interest rates when they meet this week, and by the time you're listening to this episode, perhaps they already have. So we'll talk about what that means for inflation, bonds, stocks, mortgage rates, and your retirement next week. I hope you have a blessed week. My name is Ashley Micciche, this is the Retirement Quick Tips Podcast.

Guest post by Ronnie Hamilton, Pre-Sales Director, Climb Channel Solutions Ireland If compliance feels overwhelming right now, you're not imagining it. New regulations covering cybersecurity, data protection, AI, and more are emerging - from the latest PCI DSS updates to the EU AI Act. As a result, compliance is actively shaping the IT channel, influencing how we do business, how we anticipate industry shifts, and how we support our partners and customers with the right solutions to stay ahead. Navigating compliance in 2025 means being aligned with regulatory requirements, but it's a balancing act because at the end of the day, we all still have a job to do: delivering the right solutions, tailoring services to customer needs, and being a trusted partner. With new regulations coming into force and the mounting challenge of understanding cybersecurity, AI governance, and data integrity requirements, it's more important than ever to stay ahead. On the other hand, those who stay agile and deliver solutions that meet regulatory demands have an opportunity to turn the compliance headache into a competitive advantage. The Agility Advantage of Smaller Partners Smaller channel partners face growing pressure from complex customer environments, resource constraints, and fierce competition for skilled talent. However, their agility provides a unique advantage. Unlike larger enterprises, they can quickly adapt to evolving customer needs, position themselves as trusted advisors, and identify emerging vendors - particularly those offering AI-powered and automated solutions. AI adoption plays a critical role in maintaining a competitive edge. By embracing AI, smaller partners can deliver exceptional managed services with fewer resources, keeping costs low and service quality high. This approach ensures they remain competitive in a crowded market. Tackling the EU NIS2 Directive The EU NIS2 Directive reinforces the need for robust cybersecurity measures, urging businesses to adopt a more comprehensive approach to risk management. Essential security practices such as multi-factor authentication, regular cybersecurity training, incident response planning, and strong supply chain security are no longer optional but essential. A key principle underlying the directive is the Identify, Detect, Protect, Respond, and Recover framework. While most organisations focus heavily on detection and protection, recovery is sometimes a weak link. A lengthy recovery period following a breach can be as harmful as failing to detect the threat in the first place. The integration of automation into threat detection and response processes is becoming more important for meeting compliance requirements. The EU AI Act: Compliance Meets Innovation The EU AI Act introduces new obligations for organisations deploying AI solutions - emphasising transparency, accountability, and risk management throughout the AI lifecycle. These requirements extend to all aspects of AI implementation, from data sourcing and model training to real-world deployment. To address compliance risks, managed service providers may consider introducing AI governance roles, such as "AI Managers as a Service." These specialists help organisations navigate AI regulations without requiring full-time in-house expertise. While compliance with AI regulations may introduce additional costs, the long-term benefits - such as enhanced customer trust, clear documentation, and ethical AI practices - can significantly outweigh the initial investment. Rather than viewing compliance as a regulatory burden, partners should position it as an opportunity to strengthen customer relationships and stand out. Automation and AI: Key Enablers of Compliance AI and automation are proving indispensable for managing compliance complexity. From automating repetitive processes to monitoring security events and ensuring adherence to evolving standards, these technologies help organisations streamline compliance efforts while mini...

Karl Vaters interviews Sam Peters about the microchurch model, and more specifically, what are the minimum aspects that need to be in place for a church to be a church? If you're serving a small church that's considering if you have a viable path forward, the microchurch model is worth considering, and Sam offers some help for thinking about it in fresh, new ways.Sam Peters is a church consultant, and the author of several books, including Small Church, Big Opportunity; BIG Faith: Six Key Factors that Grow Your Faith in God, & Rebuilding Stronger: Navigating the Post-Pandemic Landscape of Worship.Links:SmallChurchCoaching.comLinkTreeYou can follow Sam on Facebook and X Bonus videoThe Limitations of the Institutional Church in Reaching the CommunityKarl Vaters interviews Sam Peters about some of the limitations that are now coming to light about the institutional church model (building, salary, etc.) that we've both spent our lives in. The challenges we talk about include:1. Physical and Financial Constraints: Many churches invest most of their resources into maintaining buildings and programs rather than directly engaging the lost. This is especially difficult for smaller congregations.2. Passive Churchgoers Instead of Active Disciple-Makers: Institutional churches can unintentionally foster a consumer mindset, where members attend services but are not equipped to lead or disciple others.3. Limited Reach Beyond Church Walls: Most churches expect people to come to them rather than embedding the Gospel in everyday life and relationships.4. Slow Adaptation to Cultural Shifts: In an age of rapid change, large churches with complex structures often struggle to pivot quickly to meet new challenges and opportunities.5. Overemphasis on Sunday Gatherings: The primary focus in many churches is the Sunday experience, but disciple-making happens most effectively in smaller, relational environments. To get Bonus Content every week, click here to become a Financial Partner, or here to subscribe to the Free Weekly Newsletter.

Over 90% of U.S. businesses generate less than $5 million profit per year, yet these businesses are the backbone of our economy. Although the majority of Private Equity investments are in larger companies, many smaller companies are investable and need access to capital and expertise to grow. Ariez Dustoor, Partner at NB Group Investors, invests in founder or family-owned Wellness related or multi-location service businesses with $10 - $100,000,000 million in revenue, and attempts to achieve a 3 to 4 x multiple on invested capital within five years.
The discussion focused on investment opportunities arising from the government's sale of surplus properties, with David Codrea emphasizing the potential of acquiring smaller properties under 100,000 square feet for repurposing into local business spaces. He highlighted a recent list of federal properties available for sale, particularly in the Southeast region between Atlanta and Charlotte, which he views as having significant growth potential. Another speaker shared their investment strategy, favoring lower-rise buildings with flexible zoning to facilitate quicker leasing, and noted a typical profitability timeframe of about 18 months, factoring in municipal permitting. While acknowledging the rising interest in data centers, they expressed a preference for less competitive markets due to high costs and energy supply challenges. The complexities of converting commercial properties to residential use were also discussed, particularly the resistance from cities to zoning changes, along with reflections on past projects, including a successful turnaround of a mobile home park with infrastructure issues.
