Making Observations is not Trashing an athletic performance. Running fans have Thin Skin and 2:09 is not FAST. The Olympic Standards should be the Olympic Trials Standard. https://www.letsrun.com/news/2020/12/... Top Marathon Times http://www.alltime-athletics.com/mmar... Quote Of The Day “An interesting question that may be answered in this pandemic year of 2020 is whether running can stand on its own as a sport rather than as a civic tale of mass participation where charity fund-raising, economic impact, and human interest stories make up the heart of the enterprise with the pro race merely an appendage leading the way. VIDEO: https://youtu.be/6DOncIeJ7mM On April 21 1980, Rosie Ruiz was awarded first place female at the Boston Marathon. 8 days later, she was stripped of that title after it was declared that she had cheated, and in fact had only run the final mile of the race. 40 years later, I wanted to understand how and why Rosie had done this. My sincere thanks to writer Will Cockerell and broadcaster Toni Reavis for their authority and input on this fascinating story. It was sure nice to get the name of this episode figured out ahead of time. Luckily for you, we didn't spend the entire episode soapboxing again. We also talked about one of the closest championship wins you could ever imagine, the relatively disastrous Bahrain Night Half Marathon, the United Airlines NYC Half results, and Carl Lewis saying he could have run the 40 under 4 seconds. At that point, we waded back into the USATF/IAAF cesspool and covered a few interesting articles that made the rounds this week from Toni Reavis, Deadspin, and Flotrack. Plus, we got a great email from former pod guest Roger. The 1609 Podcast is a proud member of the CITIUS MAG Podcast Family!
