This week, Leonora welcomes TV writer and producer, podcaster, and legitimately one of her best friends, Elizabeth Laime. Elizabeth is presently writing and co-executive producing A Million Little Things (and just won the enormously important 2022 Sentinel Award for her and Lucile Masson's episode about abortion) and has also written on shows like I'm Sorry and The Village. She built one of the first podcast empires (before that was a thing) with her shows Totally Laime, Totally Married, Totally Mommy, and Totally Beverages and Sometimes Hot Sauce. She and her husband Andy Rosen are back with a hilarious and wonderful podcast called “Nobody's Listening, Right?” Elizabeth and Leonora discuss friendship, what it feels like to really realize a dream, and how to persist in this industry, and Elizabeth whips out her (excellent) Eckhart Tolle impersonation.

This week we talk with podcaster and TV writer Elizabeth Laime about all things podcasting including her bad ass podcast Totally Laime. We dive into the logistics of podcasting, how the medium has changed and how podcasting has impacted her career trajectory. Elizabeth also shares her experiences in TV writing for the shows I’m Sorry and NBC’s The Village. Episode Highlights Podcasting can connect you with your community The benefits of podcasting go way beyond financials The logistics of podcasting - what it takes on a weekly basis The importance of consistency in podcasting The snowball effect in growing an audience for your podcast Elizabeth Laime Elizabeth Laime is a comedy writer and podcaster. She got her start onstage at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York with her long-running one woman show, "Dear Diary" (a Time Out New York's critics' pick,) and as part of the original sketch "Maude" Team, "Gunderson". Her three podcasts, Totally Laime, Totally Married, and Totally Mommy have over ten million downloads, thousands of 5-star iTunes reviews, and accolades from publications like E! Online, USA Today, and Los Angeles Magazine. She recently sold and developed a comedy pilot, CRYSTAL, for ABC, as well as a comedy pilot inspired by her podcasts for CBS. Her most impressive accomplishment to date, however, was narrating the 1998 VHS unauthorized documentary of Leonardo DiCaprio, "Hangin' With Leo." She hates to brag about it, but it happened. Today I chat with the amazingly talented Elizabeth Laime of the Totally Married and Totally Mommy podcasts and formerly of the now defunct Totally Laime podcast. I was so excited to have her on, as her podcasts are two of my absolute favorites that I look forward to every week. She is mom to one baby girl who just over a year old, a comedy writer and wife to Andy who is a record producer. She and Andy host their weekly Totally Married Podcast while she co-hosts Totally Mommy with a different mom friend each week. In this episode we discuss her experience having her first birth at the Del Mar Birth Center in Pasadena, what led her to switch from an OB/GYN to a Midwife and all of the extreme feelings that come along with the first year of motherhood. We also talk about the benefits of prenatal couples counseling and that although the identity shift that takes place during the first year is a massive one, you WILL get your identity mojo back, in time. Elizabeth is wonderful and hilarious and I think you will really enjoy this episode! You can find out more about her and about her podcasts at www.totallylaime.com You can also follow her on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
In this special episode of Totally Mommy, Elizabeth wishes Baby Oprah a very happy first birthday by re-sharing the episode of Totally Married (#142, A Tale Of Two Cheeks) that she and Andy recorded just one week after Baby Oprah joined their family and brought endless joy into their lives. Regular programming back next week. Enjoy!
