There's no escaping health realities. Either you're making choices that move you closer to, or farther from health. Each little decision, whether it's the food you eat (or don't eat), the movement you incorporate (or don't), the quick fixes that mask symptoms but prolong the cause - it all adds up to the picture of your health. So what are little changes you can make today to help move you closer to good health? Take a listen to the BrainStim gang discuss on today's episode.
Fellow ex-MP and former health minister Steve Brine sends in a question asking Ed Balls and George Osborne how we judge the performance of a health secretary, and in particular Wes Streeting. They lay out the historical challenges of the role, and where Streeting has risen or succumbed to them thus far.A colleague of Ed's from King's College then asks how useful it is for benefits to be so conditional, in particular for care leavers. They debate the fairness in having conditional benefits systems, and why people are more sympathetic to care leavers than other disadvantaged groups. They then discuss the perks of pedestrianising Bruton, George's stomping ground, in a manner similar to Paris. Would George lead the campaign to see this through? Or is it an enticing but unrealistic idea? Finally, a former Tory parliamentary candidate raises his concerns around Nick Timothy's controversial comments on a Ramadan event in London. They discuss the dangerous direction these comments represent for both the Tories, and British politics more widely. Cases of colorectal cancer in young people have risen nearly 60 percent since the early 2000s. That's according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and the National Cancer Institute. And a new study out this month by the American Cancer Society found that colorectal cancer is now the deadliest kind for those younger than 50.But this rise isn't being felt across all generations in the same way. People born around 1990 are four times more likely to develop rectal cancer than those born around 1950. And for those 65 and older, colorectal cancer rates have actually decreased. So, what's going on? And what can you do to protect yourself and your gut health? What if your daily habits are quietly deciding your destination—long before you ever notice the outcome? In DESTINATION DECISIONS: Bad Habits or Good Health, we step into a Scripture that often surprises people: God cares about your body, not just your soul. Rooted in 3 John 1:2, this conversation explores the idea of life as a “prosperous journey” - - - one shaped by the small, repeated choices we make every day. This episode doesn't preach perfection or promote a one-size-fits-all health plan. Instead, it invites an honest look at how our habits—food, sleep, substances, sexuality, rest, and movement—either support the life God desires for us or slowly pull us off course. We talk candidly about how easy it is to squander good health through unexamined routines, and why Scripture consistently connects holiness, wisdom, and embodied living. You'll hear a real-life story of chronic health struggle that led to a humble pivot: fewer extremes, more prayer, and simple, sustainable habits practiced over time. From a short sugar fast that became a family rhythm to small changes that produced surprising clarity and consistency, this episode highlights how direction matters more than intensity. We also name what must be held with care: not all illness is preventable, and suffering always deserves compassion, prayer, and community—not judgment. Still, God invites us to steward what He has given us, using His resources for both His glory and our good.If you're ready to take a gracious inventory—without shame—and make one small change that aligns your body and soul, this conversation is for you. Because every habit is a decision… and every decision leads somewhere. The devotion-driven discipleship guide that goes along with this conversation can be found in the Family Disciple Me app. ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. In this gentle guided meditation, Kelly Jean invites listeners to restore balance and vitality through mindful awareness and Reiki energy. Drawing inspiration from her full-body Reiki ASMR practice, this episode is designed to help you recover when you feel emotionally drained, physically tired, or mentally overwhelmed.Listeners are guided through deep, rhythmic breathing and subtle energy clearing—imagining slow, sweeping hand movements that release what no longer serves. Soft tones and healing vibrations weave through the meditation, creating a calm energetic flow that soothes the body and clears the mind.Kelly leads you through a journey of self-care and energetic realignment—beginning at the face, where stress and emotion often reside, and moving through the entire body with waves of Reiki light. The practice emphasizes loving awareness, self-acceptance, and the gentle reminder that energy work is not about control—it's about flow and allowing yourself to return to ease.By the end of the meditation, listeners are encouraged to express gratitude for their bodies and the life force that carries them each day, reaffirming that managing energy for good health begins with compassion for oneself.Key ThemesReiki and ASMR for holistic restorationReleasing energetic blockages through visualizationMind-body harmony through breath and awarenessFlow, not control, as the essence of energy balanceGratitude as the foundation of health and peaceListen & ReflectAllow this 5-minute meditation to guide you back to your center.
