Mary Agbovi runs legal operations at CoverMyMeds, sits on the SOLID Advisory Council, and co-founded an organization that builds schools in Togo. David Cowen sits down with Mary to unpack the most quotable metaphor in the entire series: what if we had given Alexander Hamilton a typewriter? It is a reframing of change management that strips away the fear of AI replacement and replaces it with something more useful, we are handing our teams tools to be more of who they already are. Key Topics Covered: The Hamilton typewriter metaphor: Why we are giving people an amplifier, not asking them to change identity Concentric circles of AI rollout: Mary's framework for thinking about adoption — direct team first, then the surrounding stakeholders The bell curve of adoption: What to do with the leading 20 percent, the middle 60, and the trailing edge Building schools, building legal ops: Why creating space for people to learn is the same fundamental work Inspiring agency: Why storytelling is the differentiator for legal ops leaders in 2026 Articulation as AI dividend: How Mary uses AI as a coach to refine her own thinking Project managing a life: Three daughters, building schools, leading legal ops

Typewriter Intervention: The Brilliance of Analog Innovation in an Over-Automated World

Anyone remember Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing? Yeah, well, this week you'll need to go back even further than that. An Ivy League professor recently made headlines for forcing all of her college students to use 1950s manual typewriters in class. On the surface, it looks like a regression to the Stone Age, another stubborn overreaction to modern tech. However, while it may surprise you, I think what this professor did is actually a brilliant play.  In this week's episode of Future-Focused, I'm breaking down the brilliance behind the strategy of this analog intervention and why it is a masterclass in strategic leadership. I'll explain how it perfectly cuts past the growing binary trap destroying organizations today, enforcing pointless friction out of fear of tech or chasing blind AI use where we let the machine do all the thinking for us.  My goal is to help you move beyond this lose-lose scenario and intentionally design friction that forces cognitive pause. I'll walk you through how to build a localized intervention in your own organization, highlighting three key opportunities to prepare your team:   Identifying the Eroding Skill: We tend to get frustrated by AI outputs without taking the time to ask why. I break down the importance of moving beyond a gut feeling to quantitatively prove which human capabilities, like critical thinking or collaboration, are actually deteriorating due to tech over-reliance.   Designing Surgical Interventions: Friction for the sake of friction just breeds resentment and makes your organization vulnerable to competitors. I explain why your analog addendum must be a highly targeted, strategic exercise designed to purposefully shake people loose from the mundane to achieve a specific outcome.   Guarding Against the Novelty Trap: It's easy to fall in love with the novelty of a quirky, off-the-wall idea. I highlight why you need objective measurement from an outside party to ensure your intervention is actually driving a result, rather than just wasting time teaching people how to use a typewriter.  By the end, I hope to challenge you to stop letting the machine dictate everything and set up a 60-minute session with your team this week to brainstorm your own surgical intervention.  ⸻If this conversation helps you think more clearly about the future we're building, make sure to like, share, and subscribe. FLOPPY DAYS 159 - The KayPro - Part 3 With Matt Jones Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FloppyDays Sponsors: 8-Bit Classics Arcade Shopper and https://thekeep.net FutureVision Research Tuc's Workbench  Hello, and welcome to episode 159 of the Floppy Days Podcast for January, 2026.  I'm Randy Kindig, your host.  We are currently covering computers introduced in the year 1982 and, to that end, we are currently in the middle of a series of podcasts about the Kaypro line of computers.  Kaypro had a rich and varied family of computers; certainly much more so than I ever realized.  I was able to interview David Kay, son of the founder of KayPro, and president of the company for some time, in the previous two episodes.  This month we'll delve into history, tech specs, and more, through the topic of using the machine.  Next month we'll complete the series by starting with books and magazines and ending with current Web sites and a lot more content in between. I will have a video version of this episode posted to the Floppy Days Podcast channel on YouTube. You will hear ads from some great vintage computer stores, themselves vintage computer fans, throughout the early part of this podcast.  For all of these storefronts, when you place an order, please mention Floppy Days in the notes or comments of the order.  Doing so will help support the podcast.  Many thanks!! I also wanted to mention those listeners who appreciate the show enough to donate through patreon.com.   I really appreciate you guys and it helps offset the cost of running the podcast. Regarding that, I've created some tiers for paid members and have come up with some ways to reward those who are generous enough to monetarily support the Floppy Days Podcast on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/FloppyDays ), such as early access to videos of interviews like the one being brought to you in audio form in this episode.  Visit Patreon to see more details concerning the rewards for supporters . I just want to say that it is my intention to always make all content available to everyone at no cost, while at the same time providing some benefits for those generous enough to support the podcast. I hope you agree I've come up with a good compromise Please let me know your thoughts. Enjoy!! Top Stories for January 6th Publish Date: January 6th From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, January 6th and Happy Birthday to Malcolm Young I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia. Lawrenceville's new downtown hotel rising ahead of schedule Lawrenceville resident kicks off new year by winning $1 million in the Georgia Lottery The Latest: US strikes Venezuela, captures Maduro and his wife All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Kia Mall of Georgia - Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink STORY 1: Lawrenceville's new downtown hotel rising ahead of schedule Lawrenceville’s dream of a downtown hotel has been a slow burn—years of planning, delays, and setbacks. But now? It’s finally happening, and faster than anyone expected. The Lawrence Hilton Tapestry, a boutique hotel nestled between the Lawrenceville Lawn and Arts Center, is set to open mid-2026. Or maybe even earlier. “We’re ahead of schedule and under budget,” said City Manager Chuck Warbington. Brickwork is already going up, and the weather’s been a surprising ally—minimal rain, no freezing temps. The hotel will feature 120 rooms, meeting spaces, a chef-driven restaurant (Bellfire), and a bar (Old Nick’s). Plus, 200 new parking spots in the city-owned deck below. This project’s been a decade in the making, delayed by COVID and financing hurdles. But now, Lawrenceville’s vision of a walkable, thriving downtown is finally within reach. STORY 2: Lawrenceville resident kicks off new year by winning $1 million in the Georgia Lottery Three Georgians are starting 2026 a whole lot richer—millionaires, in fact. Among them? A lucky winner from Lawrenceville, along with two others from College Park and Grovetown. Their $1 million prizes came from the Georgia Lottery’s second-chance Georgia Millionaire drawing, announced right as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s. Talk about a way to ring in the new year. The Georgia Millionaire scratcher offers $10,000 instant prizes and a shot at the big one through second-chance entries. STORY 3: The Latest: US strikes Venezuela, captures Maduro and his wife The United States launched a military operation early Saturday, capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, in a move that’s already shaking the world. By morning, he was aboard a U.S. warship, blindfolded and bound for New York to face drug trafficking charges. President Trump, speaking on Fox News, called the operation “genius” and confirmed the U.S. would oversee Venezuela’s next steps. “We’ll be involved very much,” he said. The fallout was immediate. Venezuela’s U.N. ambassador condemned the strike as a “colonial war,” while China and Russia slammed the U.S. for violating international law. Meanwhile, in South Florida, Venezuelan exiles celebrated, waving flags and chanting “Liberty!” Maduro’s capture marks a dramatic escalation in U.S.-Venezuela tensions. Trump dismissed criticism over bypassing Congress, calling his opponents “weak” and insisting the operation was necessary. “The tyrant is gone,” said Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets STORY 4: ART BEAT: Beat those January blues with exciting Gwinnett arts events Feeling the post-holiday slump? The decorations are packed away, the parties are over, and—ugh—football season’s almost done. So now what? Here’s an idea: throw on that big coat, brave the chill, and dive into Gwinnett’s arts scene. Plays, concerts, art classes—there’s plenty to shake off the winter blahs. On Jan. 11, the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra team up for a concert at Discovery Theatre in Lawrenceville. Mozart, Strauss, and even Anderson’s quirky “The Typewriter” are on the program. Tickets? Head to www.tix.com. Prefer visual art? The Hudgens Center in Duluth has three exhibits running through January, including “Sketching with Buck,” a stunning collection of hand-drawn architectural sketches from around the world. Or maybe you’re itching to create? The Suwanee Arts Center offers classes like “Watercolor Landscapes” (Jan. 7 and 14) and “Drawing Basics” starting Jan. 17. Winter doesn’t stand a chance. STORY 5: Meet the first babies born in 2026 at hospitals in Gwinnett New Year’s Eve is exciting enough—countdowns, confetti, champagne. But imagine if Jan. 1 was also your birthday. That’s exactly the case for a few lucky babies born in Gwinnett hospitals as the calendar flipped to 2026. At 12:44 a.m., Julian Alessandro Sanchez made his debut at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, becoming their first baby of the year. Over at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, Brittany and Ryan Hopper of Hoschton welcomed twin boys—Koen Anthony at 4:58 a.m. and Kaden Michael at 5:14 a.m. The Hopper family even received a gift basket from the hospital’s Auxiliary and Safe Kids program. We’ll be right back. Break 3: EAGLE THEATRE Gentleman’s Guide STORY 6: Gwinnett police offering free women's basic self-defense course The Gwinnett County Police Department is hosting a self-defense program for women 16 and up, and honestly, it’s something every woman should consider. The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course isn’t just about learning moves—it’s about building confidence, awareness, and practical skills to stay safe. Over four sessions (Jan. 20, 22, 27, and 29, from 6–9 p.m.), participants will dive into risk awareness, avoidance strategies, and hands-on defense techniques. It wraps up with a live simulation—because practice makes perfect, right? Held at the Gwinnett Police Training Center in Lawrenceville, spots fill fast. Don’t wait. Call 678.442.6520 or visit GwinnettCounty.com/RAD to register. STORY 7: Norcross Grad Mason Kaplan Earns NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award Norcross alum Mason Kaplan just added another impressive accolade to his already stacked resume. On Saturday, the Illinois State linebacker snagged the NCAA FCS Football Elite Scholar-Athlete Award—one of the most prestigious academic honors in college football. Here’s the deal: this award isn’t just about being good on the field. It’s for the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the finals site of an NCAA championship. And Kaplan? He’s rocking a 4.0 in grad school, studying the psychology of sport and physical activity. Oh, and he’s also president of ISU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. What’s wild? Kaplan started his college career as a quarterback, playing two seasons at Valparaiso and one at Illinois State before an injury sidelined him in 2024. This year, though, he’s made a seamless (and dominant) transition to linebacker, helping lead the Redbirds to Monday’s FCS National Championship in Nashville. We’ll have closing comments after this Break 4: GCPL Passport Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Best Film Ever

“I wrote you.” Join Ian & Liam for our 312th episode as we step into the strange, tender, and quietly unsettling world of Ruby Sparks (2012) — a film about creativity, control, fantasy, and what happens when the person you imagine refuses to stay that way. Typewriters ready. Boundaries optional. This week we discuss: The central conceit — what happens when your idealised version of someone becomes real, and whether the film earns the right to ask that question. Paul Dano's performance — wounded, awkward, gifted, and quietly terrifying. Is Calvin a romantic lead… or a cautionary tale? Zoe Kazan's Ruby — luminous, frustrating, independent, and increasingly human. How does the film balance charm with agency? The ethics of authorship (first level) — when creativity crosses into control, and when love turns into manipulation.  The ethics of authorship (second level)- What about the ethics of Zoe Kazan's screenplay and performance opposite her actual romantic partner in Paul Dano Our own Ruby Sparks asks whether the film understands its own power dynamics — or if it occasionally romanticises behaviour it should interrogate harder. The meta-text — a film written by its female lead about being written by a man. How much does that context change everything? We talk about fantasy vs. reality in relationships — and how dangerous it is to fall in love with someone who exists only on your terms. Is Calvin a hard lead to sympathise with on any level?  Does his status as financially successful cause him to be less easy to support? There are… hypotheticals discussed — moments that feel uncomfortably specific, strangely timed, or oddly familiar, without ever being about anything in particular. Pure coincidence, obviously. We talk about whether this is strictly a male-female perspective or if it's something innately more comprehensively human than that The tonal shift — rom-com whimsy giving way to something much darker. Does the film stick the landing? The ending — hopeful, troubling, cyclical? What does the final image actually suggest?  Ian presents what he thinks is the author's intent And finally, whether Ruby Sparks is the Best Film Ever — or one of the most quietly confronting relationship films of the 2010s. This week on Paranormal Activity: Monday Mailtime, Producer Dom unpacks two listener stories that challenge the boundaries of time, memory, and the spaces we think we understand.First, Daniel takes us to the cobbled alleys of Bruges, Belgium, where a mysterious art gallery seemed to appear out of nowhere and then vanish without a trace.Inside, the portraits didn't just watch him… one of them moved. Was it an artistic illusion, or did Daniel step into a place lost to history? Then, Ben shares what happened during a quiet winter in Sheffield, while housesitting for his cousin. In the attic sat an old Remington typewriter, silent for decades.Or so he thought. When the keys began clicking on their own, it felt like more than just coincidence, especially when one key pointed to a message from beyond the grave. Two stories. Two impossible places. One question: Can the past ever really let go?A Create Podcast Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

When we think of China today, we think of a technological superpower. From Huawei and 5G to TikTok and viral social media, China is stride for stride with the United States in the world of computing. However, China's technological renaissance almost didn't happen. And for one very basic reason: the Chinese language, with its 70,000 plus characters, couldn't fit on a keyboard.Today, we tell the story of Professor Wang Yongmin, a hard-headed computer programmer who solved this puzzle and laid the foundation for the China we know today.Special thanks to Martin Howard. Fortunately for future generations, most of these terrible drivers are going to be replaced by a computer. In fact, in a number of countries (Norway, UAE) that is already happening, and in the US, it will significantly occur in the next decade.Source: GrokThe one snag is that roughly 1 job in 10 in the US—broadly defined—is tied to driving a vehicle, if one includes cabs, forklifts, insurance agents, and so on. Said differently, to save 1 million people a year from dying in a car crash, tens of millions of people are going to lose their jobs. To put this in perspective, I am thrilled to share my conversation with Alexei Andreev. He is the co-founder of Autotech Ventures, a venture capital fund, and holds degrees from Stanford and the Moscow Steel and Alloys Institute. Alexei has been investing in this shift for years and will walk you through it.Earlier this week, I rowed under Route 95 pre-dawn, cars and trucks hurtling down the road. In the quiet of a scull, looking up, it is an industrial maw. I had a flashback to watching the Cape Ann Tool Factory as a child. Enormous furnaces poured steel and pounding presses turned them into tools. I was spellbound by the heat and noise. I suspect we will look back on Route 95 the same way. In my lifetime, it will likely be replaced by quiet, humming electrical cars driven by robots. The tool factory is now abandoned. This shift is bearish for the cost of labor, bullish for corporate margins and materials that go into creating energy, and bad for politics. What politician can win on a platform of technical change that displaces tens of millions of jobs? This document is strictly confidential and is intended for authorized recipients of “A Letter from Paul” (the “Letter”) only.
