Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesLast week, during an interview with Brazilian pop culture and media YouTube outlet, Omelete, to promote their new film, The Electric State, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars directors, Joe and Anthony Russo offered insights on how the upcoming pair Avengers of films differ from their previous multi-phase, saga-concluders: Infinity War and Endgame; describing the duology as a “new beginning.” Joe Russo went on to reiterate the real motivation for the creative duo returning to the franchise after leaving on an all-time high more than 5 years ago. In a double dose of DC casting news, sitcom vet Jason Ritter has joined the cast of Lanterns in a recurring role as Billy Macon, a ‘good-looking charmer who does his father's bidding, clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.' Elsewhere, The Penguin actor, Colin Farrell has entered negotiations to replace Daniel Craig as the titular sergeant of Luca Guadagnino's Word War II film, Sgt. Rock.Despite the release of several new genre films, last weekend's domestic box office was notably slow – at an approximate $54 million total, sluggish enough to earn the title of 2025's worst box office thus far. Paramount's R-rated action comedy, Novocaine, starring Jack Quaid, took the top spot with $8.7 million, slightly below expectations. Meanwhile, Mickey 17 suffered a 60% drop in its second weekend, barely managing to stave off Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller, Black Bag, with hauls of $7.51 and $7.5 million, respectively. After more than a year of speculation, Apple TV+ has officially ordered a fourth season of its Emmy-winning comedy Ted Lasso. The pickup comes after co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis closed a deal to reprise his role as the titular character. Disney has released the first official trailer for body swap comedy reunion sequel Freakier Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The film hits theaters on August 8th, 22 years after the original. Conan O'Brien, who hosted the 97th Oscars telecast on March 2, has agreed to return and host the 98th Oscars telecast on March 15, 2026, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday. CBS has also announced that comedian Nikki Glaser will return in 2026 to host the 83rd annual Golden Globes.More than a year after Warner Bros. shelved Coyote vs. Acme for tax incentives, independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire the film for around $50 million. Ketchup recently handled the theatrical release of The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which has earned $3.9 million since its March 14 debut.Columbia Pictures is plotting a new Starship Troopers movie, tasking District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp to write and direct an adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel story by Robert A. Heinlein. The Hollywood Reporter has learned “zero progress” has been made on Saw XI since writing partners Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan turned in a draft back in spring of 2024. Speaking on the project, Melton said “The reason it's held up is just, there's inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can't quite get on the same page.” A24 has released the first trailer for romantic feature film Materialists starring Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Dakota Johnson. The film hits theaters on June 13th. Netflix has released the first trailer for Adam Sandler-led sequel Happy Gilmore 2. The film begins streaming on July 25th. Darren Aronofsky is in talks to direct Netflix's Cujo, a remake of Stephen King's classic horror novel about a vicious St. Bernard. The project is still in early development, and sources say Aronofsky has yet to hold creative discussions with Netflix. If the deal goes through, this would be his first feature film for a streaming platform.

Who has managed to stay in the conversation this week? Jodi and Kate Halliwell first make note of some genuinely disparate topics, including celebrities' penchant for going to space, Ben Affleck possibly sniffing around Jennifer Garner again, and Amanda Seyfried unofficially auditioning for an unofficial Joni Mitchell biopic (6:45). After that, they deep dive into three divas who have stayed in the conversation in big ways: K-pop star Lisa and her role on ‘The White Lotus' and in the Oscars dreadful James Bond medley (37:39), Gabby Windey and her iconic TikTok and podcast (43:30), and Doechii and her new viral single ‘Anxiety' (54:00). Send us a textThe Final Chapter for Friday the 13th: The Episode? I'm afraid so. One movie does feature a guest appearance by one Fred Krueger, so there's that. And the other is a reboot attempt that fared well at the box office. But no! That's all. This Voorhees guy is finished! Maybe. But while you're waiting, you may as well hear our opinions of the 11th and 12th entries in the Friday the 13th film series. One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, Jason's at your door, in Freddy vs. Jason (2003)! And then from there, welcome to Crystal Lake. Again. It's Friday the 13th (2009)!

Gaius and Jackson look back at one of cinema's greatest grudge matches between two horror movie icons in Freddy vs. Jason for the film's 20th anniversary. Directed by Ronny Yu and written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the film is a crossover between the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises and it puts their respective antagonists, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, against each other. Freddy has become weakened and forgotten because the citizens of his home town Springwood have defeated him by using medications to repress dreams. Freddy awakens Jason to stir up fear and grow his powers so that he may return and kill again but Jason turns out to not be easily controlled as Freddy initially thought and the two supernatural mass murderers come into a major conflict. Starring Robert Englund, Ken Kirzinger, Monica Keena, Kelly Rowland, Jason Ritter, Chris Marquette, Katharine Isabelle, and more, the pair look into the film's impact at the time of its release, the movie's long journey to the big screen, performances, favorite scenes and more! Mary, Zach, and Charlie join Caitlin to cover Swimfan. It's a real time capsule of a movie; it'll take you right back to 2002. It has a monstrous femme figure in stalker Madison, and it gives us themes of obsession, deception, and troubled pasts. It also gives us an iconic pool scene. In perhaps the most unhinged second-half of a Plug It Up episode to date, we explore the following tangents: birthdays, Twilight (and Skin of a Killer), chugga chugga as it relates to choo choo, game shows, hibachi, coitus, juice (including "doodoo juice"), lots of pool talk, DP of all kinds, Michael Shannon, and some great FMKs.
Jane & Brandon cover the movie about music that nobody asked for. We can be grateful for the cringiest scene of all time that plays out like a demon escaping the inner sanctum of Hilary Duff's diaphragm as we are gaslit to think she is giving Whitney Houston level vocals. We are left with one question for John Corbett, Jason Ritter, Rebecca De Mornay, and Rita Wilson: Why?
It's festival season. It's allergy season. It's gala season. Divas down! We need an antihistamine for ALL of it. Enter Melanie Lynskey! One of the great acting talents of our time graces the pod to discuss Yellowjackets, The Last of Us, working with Jessica Biel, Matt Damon, Juliette Lewis, Jamie Babbit, Steven Soderbergh, Cate Blanchett and MORE, her husband Jason Ritter and their recent very honest visit to the Drew Barrymore Show, mastering accents and dialects, and transitioning from character roles to lead roles. Also, Coachella thoughts and reactions (including the Frank Ocean of it all), Blink 182 in retrospect, "stealth wealth", the release of the recent Wicked production stills, how "fanny" means "pussy" in British, and living with misophonia in the face of gum chewing. Yellowjackets has new episodes out now on Showtime, and new episodes stream Friday and air Sundays!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
