    Ivy Insights

The Dead Pilots Society podcast is a captivating and entertaining show that brings unsold television pilots to life through live readings by talented actors. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this podcast and have found almost every single live read to be engaging and enjoyable. The creative artists involved in the project truly transform the material and their skills shine through in each episode. Attending a live performance of this show would be a fantastic experience, as it offers a unique opportunity to witness talented performers breathe life into scripts that may otherwise never see the light of day.

One of the best aspects of The Dead Pilots Society is the access it provides to intellectual property that cannot be heard anywhere else, read by wonderful performers. This podcast truly is a gem, offering listeners something new and exciting with every episode. The TV pilots featured on the show are often better, weirder, and funnier than famous shows, showcasing the incredible talent of their writers. Additionally, the interviews with these writers provide fascinating insights into their creative processes and shed light on what could have been if their series had been picked up.

While there are many positive aspects to this podcast, one potential drawback is that not every episode may resonate with every listener. Certain episodes may not appeal to everyone due to personal preferences or reasons why those particular pilots weren't picked up. However, even with occasional mixed reception for certain episodes, The Dead Pilots Society remains an overall highly recommended podcast.

In conclusion, The Dead Pilots Society is a phenomenal podcast that captivates its audience with diverting and entertaining content. It takes listeners on a journey filled with laughter, thoughtfulness, and intriguing stories. The performances by top-notch actors bring these unsold pilots to life in a way that surpasses expectations. Whether you're interested in the behind-the-scenes process of writing and producing television shows or simply looking for an entertaining escape, this show delivers on all fronts. I eagerly anticipate each new episode and cannot recommend it enough to anyone seeking a unique and enjoyable podcast experience.

In this after-show episode of Dead Pilot Society, we're joined by writer Lauren Herstik, who brought us Camp Friends — a pilot that's had more lives (and deaths) than most scripts could dream of. This one has everything: clown camp trauma, projectile vomit over a salad bar, surrealist puberty freakouts, and a long, winding journey through the chaotic world of TV development.Lauren sits down with host Andrew Reich to talk about the evolution of her coming-of-age summer camp comedy, from its original, raunchy YA vision at HBO Max, to a beachy reinvention, to its current cryogenic stasis somewhere in the Disney orbit. Along the way, we hear how shifting mandates, network rebrands, and executive shakeups nearly killed the project multiple times — and how Lauren refused to let it go quietly.
