Hey everybody, Magnus here. In 1992, Seven Men Disrupted The Comic Book Industry. And it was awesome! I love 1990s-era Image Comics. It's hard to find a comic book publisher that launched with more anticipation, excitement and hype than Image Comics did. I love Image Comics so much, in fact, that beginning in March of 2020 I'm embarking upon a brand new epic mega series. These Seven Men Are Disrupting The Comic Book Industry. I'm taking a fond long back at a handful of early 90s Image titles. What was good? What was bad? What were some missed opportunities? Well, things couldn't have been too horrible because those comics sold millions and millions of copies. So join in on the fun with me and take a fond look back at the comics of yesteryear. These Seven Men Are Disrupting The Comic Book Industry, a Trentus Magnus Punches Reality mega series beginning in March of 2020. Welcome to the first episode of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality since the last episode of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality. Which has been a really long time, in fact. Very close to seven months. But the wedding is over, the hiatus is over and it's time to get back to the business of getting back to business. In this week's adventure, Magnus shines a light on New Avengers v1 #07, the first part of The Sentry storyline -- or the Sentry retcon, if that works better for you. Cuz srsly, it was a pretty big retcon. As big a retcon as Linda always being somewhere around the MCU? Magnus has no way of knowing. Btw, this episode is old old old. Recorded two years ago, Magnus slapped a brand new intro blurb to beginning to make it sound all new and stuff but we all know nobody will be fooled by that. Certainly not you eagle-eyed (or beagled-eared?) listeners. Still, what more do you need? It's the New Avengers, it's the end of the hiatus and there's plenty of Spider-Man being Spider-Man as only Bendis could write him. So start listening now before some comedic but highly improbable fate befalls you!

This audience deserves a better class of podcaster. So, in the form of Professor Alan, Magnus will give it to them. In this week's ball-bombing episode, Magnus continues a mega megaseries of epic meganess. Can you dig it? You see, ladies and gentlemen, for probably too long the majority of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality's episodes revolved around comics. The reason for that is because Magnus loves comics. Which means you should love comics too. No, really. You should. It will be better for you if you do. So a few weeks ago His Excellency embarked upon retrospectives of two different movie franchises. Or an entire movie trilogy in one case and the beginnings of a different franchise in another case. Up this week is The Dark Knight. This is the big one! Professor Alan is once again joining in for the fun. And needless to say, there's a lot of yammering about the Dark Knight and what it all *REALLY* means. A tiny little bit of discussion is even dedicated to just how right-wing the movie and the director might actually be. So what more do you need? Start listening now or the Joker will come to your house with his coat loaded with grenades. Due to the blitzkrieg of badassitude this week, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it, some is coming in the future! So dry your eyes! Use the time wisely! This would be an opportune time to send in any feedback you may have as the vault could get totally cleared out of feedback in the relatively near future. So get to writing! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at tribute! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and eager to accept your bribe to present your meager missives to your wise emperor. The email address to use is trentusmagnus@gmail.com as the other seems to be having technical problems. In an another sublime act of truly unprecedented charity, your emperor permits you lowly rabble to suggest topics for a future episode. Thus, petitions may be sent to trentusmagnus@gmail.com for DiManzocorp interns to review, whereupon your leader might consider thinking about the possibility of potentially discussing whatever you have in mind some day. And that's a promise!

In this week's ball-attacking episode, Magnus talks about a film classic. Yes indeedy, today's subject has been on His Excellency's mind literally since the day Trentus Magnus Punches Reality first started. If it sounds like Magnus will be talking about Jaws today, that is because Magnus will in fact be talking about Jaws today. But this isn't a solo episode! No, no! This time around, Magnus browbeat... um, that is, Magnus persuaded journeyman podcaster and all around nice guy Chris Tyler to join in on the fun. Seriously, boys and girls, this film gets dissected every which way and a wonderful time is had by all. For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Magnus said *WHAT* about Ellen Brodie?!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not!

In this week's ball-jamming episode, Magnus begins something. Something new. Something exciting. Something musical! Yes indeed, beginning this week is Musical Magnus, an irregular feature of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality that will appear on the show whenever your wise leader feels like making one. To inaugurate the beginning of the launch of the Musical Magnus start-up premiere, Tom Panarese from the Pop Culture Affidavit and In-Country podcasts was persuaded (by a crowbar, a blow torch and a set of jumper cables) into joining in! And what is this adventure's album, you ask? Why, it's none other than R.E.M.'s 1991 effort 'Out of Time'. Yes, R.E.M.'s major label breakthrough into mainstream commercial success! Did Magnus and Panarese love and cherish this album? Or did they loathe and mock it? A better question to ask would be why they'd spend nearly three hours talking about an album if they despised it. Points are raised, songs are analyzed, music is critiqued, tangents are followed to their meandering conclusion and you could fairly say a rad time is had by all! Due to the deluge of ass-kickery, unfortunately there's just no time for listener feedback this week. But don't whine and complain about it because some feedback was addressed just last week and there's more to come in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. In this week's ball-searing episode, Magnus concludes the Barbara Gordon/Dick Grayson megaseries. The focus of these episodes has been the evolution of their relationship, which is sometimes cordial and sometimes not. This week, it's committed, confused, romantic and rejected. But never all of those things at the time, thankfully! The idea for this megaseries came from a Batman comic book reading project your wise emperor fell into not very long at all before recording these episodes. Oddly enough, that was the first His Excellency had even heard of the Babs/Dick relationship! It was a totally new idea here! This week Birds of Prey #8 and Nightwing Annual #2 come under the microscope and Magnus goes into long, laborious depth as to the nuances and subtleties of the story. Or stories. These issues see Dick and Barbara try but never quite manage to get on the same page with one another. And how does Kory fit into all this anyway? Last of all, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always depended on music. The thinking goes that even if the episode is no good, at least it sounds great, right? Even so, of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Further, this week's theme song is all about the anticipation of seeing that special someone and having an adventure together. If Babs and Dick have a song, undoubtedly it could be this one. Due to the avalanche of ass-kickery, unfortunately there was just no time for listener feedback this week. The idea for this megaseries came from a Batman comic book reading project your emperor embarked upon not long before recording these episodes. That is when the Babs/Dick relationship subplot first came up on the radar. It was a totally new idea to Magnus! This week the curtain rises on Nightwing #101-#106. A little storyline called Nightwing- Year One, written by Chuck Dixon & Scott Beatty and pencilled by the mighty Scott McDaniel. This storyline sees Dick Grayson say goodbye to his life as Robin and begin crafting a new identity for himself. How did Bruce and Dick ever have their falling out? Why did Dick choose "Nightwing" as his new alias? Will Jason Todd do as well running the Gauntlet as Dick did? One thing that unfortunately isn't explained is just what the hell Dick was smoking when he designed the high-collared first version of his Nightwing uniform. But, hey, you can't have everything, right? Then again, this story doesn't require any squinting to fit into your head canon. So there's that, eh? Finally, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always depended on music. Even so, of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Further, this week's theme song comes recommended by J. In this week's ball-crashing episode, Magnus continues the Batgirl and Robin megaseries all about the relationship between Babs and Dick. It's sometimes romantic. Other times it's more like a sibling rivalry. The entire concept for this thing came from a Batman comic book binge your wise leader fell into not long before recording this episode, which is just about when the Babs/Dick ship subplot first fell under the microscope. Yes, Magnus never even knew this subplot existed until then. This week His Excellency takes a long look at The Batman Adventures #18, #26, #12 and #14 (in that order). This selection of comics requires a bit of a squint test as The Batman Adventures exists outside the standard DC continuity. But head canon being what it is, there was no way these issues would escape a thorough investigation in light of Babs and Dick's past and, God knows, their future. If that seems odd, bear in mind that the writer of these issues, Kelley Puckett, has written other comics discussed in this megaseries so there is some creative continuity to be found here. Again, people, these comic books pass the squint test. Barely. But they pass. Finally, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always revolved a fair amount around music. Of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Further, this week's theme song foreshadows Dick chafing in his partnership with Batman. The boy is fast becoming a man. In this week's ball-stomping episode, Magnus continues the Batgirl and Robin megaseries, which is a megaseries all about the occasionally romantic relationship between Batgirl and Robin. Or, more accurately, Babs and Dick. The entire concept for this thing came from a Batman comic book reading project upon which your wise emperor embarked not long before recording this episode, whereupon he fell unwittingly into the Babs/Dick ship subplot. This week, the spotlight falls on the Batgirl one-shot from 1997, which was a tie-in to Batman & Robin, as well as the Batgirl- Girlfrenzy one-shot from 1998. These two issues relate to Babs and her determination to overcome, even when faced with psychotic serial killers such as the Joker and Mr. Zsasz. Unlike other books from this megaseries, the comics discussed in this episode were both written by the same writer (eg, Kelley Puckett) and explore somewhat similar ideas in very different ways. These are worthy follow-ups to Batgirl- Year One... even though that was published after these books... As a result, these two comics both fit together rather conveniently into my head canon... for those of you who go in for such things. Finally, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always revolved a fair amount around music. Of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Further, this week's theme song has a decided Babs-like flavor to it. Due to the avalanche of ass-kickery, unfortunately there was just no time for listener feedback this week. On the other hand, there has been a fair amount of feedback (and feed-forward!) a few weeks ago so this subject hasn't been entirely ignored lately. Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at tribute! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. This week is a ball-kicking episode! Look at the artwork! Batgirl is kicking a bad guy in the balls! The BALLS! How was I *EVER* not using this for the art this week! So here we go! In this week's ball-kicking episode, Magnus continues the Batgirl and Robin epic megaseries! This one's all about Barbara Gordon, Dick Grayson and their rather bizarre relationship! You see, boys and girls, this all spun out of a Batman comic book reading project your wise emperor undertook a week or three before recording these episodes, whereupon he discovered the Babs/Dick ship subplot. Yes, this subplot was completely invisible to Magnus prior to just a few months ago. Really! This week, the spotlight falls on the Batgirl- Year One miniseries, which modernizes and updates Babs' entry point into the DCU. Or DCM. Or whatever the hell they call it this week. Even though this is certainly an update, it is striking (no, really, *YOU WILL BE STRUCK*) how faithful this enterprise is overall to Barbara's original introduction. Much fun is had but, perhaps most importantly, Magnus has a whole new appreciation for Babs and her badassitude! Finally, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always depended a fair amount of music. Of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Due to the avalanche of ass-kickery, unfortunately there was just no time for listener feedback this week. It's been delayed for various reasons on too many occasions to count but this week offered the perfect opportunity to do a show about The Shadow Strikes #01, written by Gerard Jones and illustrated by Eduardo Barreto. The Shadow unexpectedly reconnects with an old flame from the old world. Meanwhile, the lovely Margot Lane becomes embroiled in a mysterious cult led by a nigh-mythic figure from the early 20th century. Fact and fiction collide in this, the first issue of an epic comic book series. Who can say where fact ends and fiction begins? Or which is which? Once that's all over, Magnus takes the occasion to yammer on about 'Dead Again', a Superman storyline from 1994 which the hosts of From Crisis to Crisis have been covering for a while now. In this week's ball-amputating episode, Magnus was unable to sync up a recording schedule with any other podcaster who likes this week's comic. So it's a solo show concluding the This is the End mega series. You see, there was a trend back in the 90's when the main character would die, get incapacitated or otherwise get replaced so that some other dude could take over. The re-educated staff at Trentus Magnus Punches Reality all adore those stories (or else!) and, as shouldn't be breaking news to anybody, what Magnus believes is the very reality of what *IS*. This week, it's all about Emerald Twilight. And this isn't a passing acknowledgement that Emerald Twilight occurred in order to transition into a discussion about Kyle Rayner. No, good friends, this is a balls-deep examination of Emerald Twilight and everything it meant to Hal Jordan at the time the storyline saw print. What went right, what went wrong, what could've been done better, it's all put on the table here. For those determined to ruin the Internet for everyone else by perpetuating click-bait on Facebook, "You'll shave your head and join a cult when you hear what Magnus says about Ron Marz!"
