In this week's adventure, Magnus goes back to the well by taking another look at an old Wizard back issue. From Frank Miller's legendary bridge-burning speech to a feature about The Batman Adventures, a lot of ground gets covered in this issue. Not least, by the way, is a rather primitive (by modern standards) costume contest in observance of the fact that Halloween was just 'round the corner.

The Fall of 1992 saw the debut of Batman: The Animated Series, and DC Comics celebrated with a 3 issue mini-series that lasted 36 issues, not to mention produced several specials and annuals, and spun-off into several different series. This episode kicks off a series of episodes where I will be making my way through the DCAU comics series, from the first issue of Batman Adventures to the final issue of Justice League Unlimited. This time out, see Penguin purposely act out of character, witness Catwoman attempt to cause an international incident, watch as Joker unmasks Batman, listen to the tale of an illiterate Gotham, and check out Bruce Wayne being accused of murder!Feedback for this show can be sent to: charliesgeekcast@gmail.comYou can subscribe to Charlie’s Geekcast through iTunes, Google Play, the RSS Feed, Stitcher, TuneIn Radio, Spotify, or you can also download the episode directly here. In this episode, Curt and Kevin analyze the most violent mental health professional this side of Hannibal Lecter! We're talking, of course, about psychologist turned psycho Harley Quinn – and more specifically, her origin story in the Eisner Award-winning one-shot The Batman Adventures: Mad Love, published by DC Comics! Poor Harley Quinn! She just wants to settle down with her psychopathic paramour, the Joker. But the Clown Prince of Crime is interested in someone else – Batman! As Harley plots to get rid of the Caped Crusader once and for all, we learn who she is, and how she came to be. Can the lovelorn jester of injustice accomplish what her boyfriend never could, and kill the Dark Knight Detective once and for all? Can she finally shake free of Gotham's most criminally codependent couple? And can she get herself admitted into that funny farm known as … The Comics Canon? (Note: This episode was recorded before the passing of Jerry Lewis and news of a new Joker and Harley Quinn movie in development.) Things Discussed in This Episode: Our Anatomy Lesson episode The soap opera inspiration for Harley Quinn? Squeaky Fromme and Patty Hearst “Don't you wanna rev up your Harley?” “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)” A brief, obligatory mention of the Suicide Squad movie The evolution, exploitation and empowerment of Harley Quinn The Trial of Yellowjacket Batman and Mr. Freeze: SubZero Future Quest: The next big movie franchise? The movie universe we're not ready for Are you ready for … Ragnaroktober?!! The Comics Canon is presented with the support of Creative Loafing Atlanta, home of such podcasts as Mo Audio and Atlanta Untrapped. Join us in two weeks as we use the new Inhumans series as an excuse to discuss New Avengers: Illuminati! Until then, please rate us on iTunes, send us an email, or hit us up on Twitter or Facebook, and we may read your comments in an upcoming episode. And as always, thanks for listening!
In this week's ball-caroling episode, 'tis the season for Magnus to celebrate Christmas by taking a long (very long!) look back at The Batman Adventures Christmas Special. This classic has been a holiday favorite of His Excellency's since practically the day it was released, boys and girls. There are more stories in this single issue than you could hope to shake a stick at but that doesn't stop Magnus from trying as he works his way from one cover to the other in fairly economical time. For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "You won't believe what Magnus was doing the first time he read this comic!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at tribute! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and eager to accept your bribe to present your meager missives to your wise emperor. The email address to use is trentusmagnus@gmail.com as the other seems to be having technical problems. In an another sublime act of truly unprecedented charity, your emperor permits you lowly rabble to suggest topics for a future episode. Thus, petitions may be sent to trentusmagnus@gmail.com for DiManzocorp interns to review, whereupon your leader might consider thinking about the possibility of potentially discussing whatever you have in mind some day. And that's a promise!

In this week's ball-crashing episode, Magnus continues the Batgirl and Robin megaseries all about the relationship between Babs and Dick. It's sometimes romantic. Other times it's more like a sibling rivalry. The entire concept for this thing came from a Batman comic book binge your wise leader fell into not long before recording this episode, which is just about when the Babs/Dick ship subplot first fell under the microscope. Yes, Magnus never even knew this subplot existed until then. This week His Excellency takes a long look at The Batman Adventures #18, #26, #12 and #14 (in that order). This selection of comics requires a bit of a squint test as The Batman Adventures exists outside the standard DC continuity. But head canon being what it is, there was no way these issues would escape a thorough investigation in light of Babs and Dick's past and, God knows, their future. If that seems odd, bear in mind that the writer of these issues, Kelley Puckett, has written other comics discussed in this megaseries so there is some creative continuity to be found here. Again, people, these comic books pass the squint test. Barely. But they pass. Finally, Trentus Magnus Punches Reality has always revolved a fair amount around music. Of nothing is that more true than this Babs/Dick megaseries. Further, this week's theme song foreshadows Dick chafing in his partnership with Batman. The boy is fast becoming a man. Due to the avalanche of ass-kickery, unfortunately there was just no time for listener feedback this week. On the other hand, there has been a fair amount of feedback (and feed-forward!) a few weeks ago so this subject hasn't been entirely ignored lately. Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! It will require only a few more weeks! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! A life long friend of Meltdown Comics, Soria discusses his history of reading comics and their major impact in his life and breaking into the DC Comics industry. Soria also gives us insight into creating the tales in publications such as Batman Adventures and Batman '66, showing that the campy television series is just as significant to Batman's history as any other interpretation. Aspiring writers and artists, fans of 1960s Batman culture and all around Bat fans should tune in to this fun talk with on of DC Comics' great modern writers! All on this week's exciting episode of History of the Batman with Londyn! Presented by Meltdown Comics! Produced by Mason Booker and Adam Silverstein. It all happens in the thrilling conclusion to "Dr. Bly's Confidence Gang," originally aired on Mutual between September 19 and September 21, 1945.
