Send us a textAs we move ahead in Foxvember, Shawn and Colin decide to take a look at the serious side of our hero with the based on true events Vietnam war classic 'Casualties Of War'. This is an odd one for us because we don't tend to go for this serious of a flick, but here we are. We discuss all the important topics such as the lack of dirt, where our knowledge of the real events fall short, the youngest we've ever seen superstars, strong performances and so very much more. Is this the movie that finally turns Colin around on the fox? How does it stack up to other war films? What did we think? Tune in to find out! And also a shoutout to the Michael J. TNT Radio guest host Basil Valentine speaks with independent journalist Johnee H, to discuss the most recent horrific attack on a shopping centre, bank and school on the outskirts of the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk whilst reviewing exclusive on-the-ground footage of the carnage that killed and injured dozens of civilians. Since October 2022, Russia has had full control of the city of Donetsk, however, those who have retained their Ukrainian citizenship, are being killed indiscriminately by American weapons, paid by American taxpayers. This is a very patriotic month here in the United States so why not discuss war movies? GLORY & PROPAGANDA is July's theme. Angela maybe isn't going to have fun this month. It might be rough for Bob too but he actually likes sad dad-boner type movies. When you come up with Vietnam War movies in your mind, this might pop up fourth or fifth off the top of your head. This flick features Michael J. Fox in one of his most dramatic leads in his career. Many Vietnam War movies since “Apocalypse Now” proved to be quite successful but this 1989 film, “CASUALTIES OF WAR” by Brian De Palma did not napalm the box office and probably asserted Fox back into his more lighthearted fare that made him successful in the first place. Also starring Sean Penn, John C. Reilly, John Leguizamo and more. This film is based upon an actual incident of a regiments abduction, sexual assault and murder of a Vietnamese girl. The “Incident on Hill 192” was reported in the New Yorker but much of the names have been changed, including the title of the incident itself for whatever reason. Fox's Private Eriksson strives to do what's right despite not stopping what did occur. Will the military respond with charges against these men? When it's all said and done, will it even matter? Vietnam movies can be brutal and this one is no exception. In any war, counting the number of people killed is challenging. So, too, is understanding how they died. In Gaza, where the still-rising death toll already includes 13,450 children, these figures can be obscured by biases, allegations—and the realities on the ground. In this week's episode, Lionel Barber and Alan Rusbridger are joined by leading statistician David Spiegelhalter to discuss how to shed light on casualty numbers in a war situation. Also this week, George Brock joins Alan and Lionel to discuss a small yet significant development in the future of local news. George is a professor of journalism at City, University of London and has previously worked at the Yorkshire Evening Press, Observer and Times, where he was managing editor and Saturday editor. George explains how the Guildford Dragon has secured charitable status, and whether this could be a possible model for local news across the country. Hosted on Acast. Iraq Body Count is a website that has maintained the most thorough list of civilian casualties from the Iraq War. According to Jonathan Steele, writing in The Guardian, IBC "is widely considered as the most reliable database of Iraqi civilian deaths.” It has been featured in the Chilcot report, and other official government websites. But, there is much to the war that most people don't know about:* The US began softening-up strikes in 2002, well before the official entry into the war. * A chilling story of how the US attacked a hospital in 2004 for reporting Morgue Deaths* The Al-Jazeera bombings and the US bombing of a Reuter's desk in Baghdad* Within the first few weeks, they had recorded over 7,500 civilian deaths with more devastation comingViolence as Communication - FallujahPerhaps no city has been hit as hard as Fallujah, Iraq. After the shock and awe campaign that led to the capture of Baghdad, the city of Fallujah had already established its own local government and security forces. There was no need for US forces to be there because they had not met with resistance at all. But, on April 23, 2003, the 82nd Airborne Division occupied the city. As a result, on April 28 2003, children and parents were marching in protests towards a school. US troops indiscriminately shot them. With that memory still present in amongst the people of Fallujah, on March 31, 2004, four Blackwater mercenaries were killed on a bridge with their bodies mutilated in brutal way. Unfortunately, most of the western media chose to portray them as innocent victims, instead victims of revenge. The US authorities took this as a challenge to their dominance. Then in late 2004, they began a campaign to conquer Fallujah which was filled with unbelievable atrocities. According to the Boston Globe:Under the plans, troops would funnel Fallujans to so-called citizen processing centers on the outskirts of the city to compile a database of their identities through DNA testing and retina scans. Residents would receive badges displaying their home addresses that they must wear at all times. Buses would ferry them into the city, where cars, the deadliest tool of suicide bombers, would be banned. As well as being conscripted for forced labor:One idea that has stirred debate among Marine officers would require all men to work, for pay, in military-style battalions. Depending on their skills, they would be assigned jobs in construction, waterworks, or rubble-clearing platoonLater on, white phosphorous would be used in Fallujah. In part 1 of our series, we discuss the Iraq war, the implications of the casualties and also we try to form a memorial for the people who lost their lives. I thought about her book while in therapy session.
We overexposed our children to too much in our marriage and the guilt and shame was real. On today's episode of Healing the Broken Marriage, Brian and Elisha talk about the casualties of war in a broken marriage. So many times in relationships and marriages, the children become those casualties of war in a sense. Brian and Elisha share about their own story and how God not only redeemed their marriage, but also redeemed their children as well. This was an area they struggled with and didn't know how God was going to fix, but He does and He will. When God redeems, He redeems all the way and that also includes your children. Tune in!

Portraying the invisible through visual art - that's the challenge more than 20 artists from universities in Poland, America and New Zealand set themselves back in 2019. The exhibition Invisible's been shown in the other two countries. Now after a Covid-19-related delay, it's about to open at the College of Creative Arts at Massey University in Wellington. Angela Kilford is one of the Kiwi co-curators of Invisible. As part of her contribution to it, she's taking people on a walk around Pukeahu, the home of Wellington's War Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a park. Angela showed Lynn Freeman some of the less well known sites that she wants to draw to people's attention. They met outside the former New Zealand Dominion Museum Building to talk about her projected digital image that's toured with the Invisible exhibition: Invisible opens to the public on the 23rd of April at Massey University, Wellington.
