Greetings, dear listener, and welcome back to "Jump on the Bat-Wagon" with James and Brian, where we watch through the entire DC Animated Universe from start to finish in the controversial airdate order, to experience these shows the way human beings experienced them in the far-gone days of the 1990s. Will he become a super-fan like James or regret his decision? This week's episode:"A Touch of Curaré""Batman Beyond"Original airdate: 5/15/1999A deadly assassin is sent to Gotham to kill the husband of Barbara Gordon, Sam Young. The Huntress Podcast is back to talk about Batman: Huntress Cry For Blood 3, where the creators of this story stop, slow things down, and analyze the true struggle and pain of Helena Bertinelli.  Contact us at www.thehuntresspodcast.com feathersandfoes@gmail.com Bluesky: huestone44.bsky.social www.patreon.com/wrightonnetwork Huntress: Cry for Blood 3 Cover Date: August 2000 Writer: Greg Rucka Artist: Rick Burchett Colorist: Tatjana Wood with Seperations by Jamison Letterer: Clem Robins Associate Editor: Joseph Illidge Editor: Dennis O'Neil So Much To Learn, If She Is To Survive Helena awakens in a cabin in Canada where a man introducing himself as Richard Dragon offers her tea and is repairing her Huntress costume. He says The Butterfly brought her to him. We can only assume he means the Question, who after all is the one that kicked her in the head last issue. Helena gets frustrated and threatens Richard before Vic Sage comes in. He comments that Helena's anger is like looking in a mirror. “We've come to know the world through violence and rage. We wear masks to hide from ourselves as much as others.” Then he reveals he is the Question and formally introduces himself to her. She quietly does the same. Meanwhile in Gotham, Tim Drake/Robin is meeting with Barbara Gordon aka Oracle. Tim doesn't believe the Huntress is the killer; it's too sloppy and she's too smart for this. Barbara is skeptical but Tim insists they have to learn the truth.  Back at the cabin, Vic explains that Richard can teach Helena how to live, not just how to not die. Vic understands how isolated Helena is and that if she returns to Gotham now, she'll soon be dead or be forced to kill. Leaving her to think, Vic tells Richard he's returning to Gotham - he's got some questions. In Gotham, Tim returns to Barbara with newspaper clippings from Helena's past. They acknowledge that while Helena and Bruce both lost their parents at 8, in Helena's case all the Bertinelli's in the city were systematically eliminated, whether they were in the mafia or not. The real question is why and why Helena was left alive. Helena is doing Tai Chi with Richard. He explains, “Passion and rage as fuel. Fear and vengeance as destination. And the faster you move, the more your past drags at you, the more of you that breaks away.” She needs to remember to breathe. As Helena trains she acknowledges to herself that she lost her breath long ago, She's been running scared her whole life, trampling anyone or anything that gets in her way. But blood cries for blood and her family's is calling for her. How dare she refuse that? Later inspecting her costume, she tells Richard how the Huntress scares her. He says she should, that Huntress is a killer. But also that Helena no longer needs to don the mask, to be someone else. She already is the Huntress. Vic finally returns to take Helena back to Gotham. She seems calmer and more at peace. As the two walk down the mountain, Vic lets her know he stopped by Helena's apartment to help out with bills and chores and noticed it's being watched.  She's not surprised. As they sit at a little town's bus stop, Vic asks her to tell the story of how she became the Huntress. Helena says: “It started in Sicily…”

There's arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. In what is definitely the biggest story in the world of Batman right now, you know we had to do an episode on the new Amazon series, Batman: Caped Crusader.  Daniel is joined once again by Podcasting Director of the Pop Break, Alex Marcus, as the two sing the praises of this phenomenal addition to the Batman canon. SPOILERS ARE ON as the duo discuss all ten episodes. They dive heavily into all the reimagined villains, and both have a hot take on Harvey Dent/Two-Face.  No villain stone is left unturned.  Clayface.  Catwoman.  Penguin.  Harley Quinn.  Firebug?  All are discussed.  Daniel also criticizes one of the villains used, but then realizes he was talking about the wrong villain!  That happened.  Not only are the villains discussed, but they praise the use of all the supporting characters, including Barbara Gordon, Renee Montoya, and…Pennyworth? Hear Daniel and Alex argue about the episode where there's a ghost!  One is positive.  One is negative.  You'll have to listen to find out who's on which side!  They also discuss favorite scenes, favorite Batman moments, top episodes, and Daniel gets annoyed at a certain cameo tease at the end.  Also, months after Daniel's passionate defense and thesis about Harvey Bullock being a complex character with tons of potential in a previous podcast, Alex tries to poke the bear on Bullock's different type of role in this series...Daniel does turn the tables though when a certain Robin is conveniently left out in one particular episode…If you loved this show like most Batman fans did, this is a must listen to episode! Also…we tease a BIG rankings episode for next month!

Batman The Adventures Continue Season 1 Graphic Novel is the Animated Series continuation from original TV writers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett. Bringing together pretty much a season 5 but in comic book form with never used in the show characters and returning classics too. What makes this work so well compared to other series later days stories is by still having the original guys write the script. So the story never has that uncanny fan fiction feel to it that just makes some other classic shows just feel off in comic book form. All 8 of these issues are really something special and pair up nicely with some of the top tier episodes of the 90s cartoon show. Bringing in new characters that never appeared in the original show like Deathstroke and Red Hood Jason Todd. Then also creating some brand new ones too that just feel like they fit in perfectly. Plus of course all sorts of returning villains that one might and might not expect. Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Mad Hater, Scarface, Clayface, Lex Luthor, Killer Croc, Penguin, Firefly, and Clock King just to name a few. There's just so much going on in here that it almost needs a good 2 reads to catch all the well dialed in references. Catch back up with Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennywise, Barbara Gordon, Clark Kent, and Tim Drake (Oddly Dick Grayson is missing but there is two other graphic novels in the series) with us in this perfect example of nostalgia done right. So, come on by and join us on another adventure of OMO Podcast. Old Man Orange is Spencer Scott Holmes & Ryan Dunigan - 2024 - "Young Adults, Old Man Attitude. Bat Therapy: Psychology of Batman and other Comic Superheroes

We love how Babs comes onto the scene – she is unapologetically herself, just looking for a way to help the city she loves without caring what Batman or her father, Commissioner Gordon, has to say about it. Emilia ends up connecting with Batgirl more than she expected. We also talk about how this comic, much like Cognitive Processing Therapy, explores the complexities of trusting someone.

Do you want to know how he got these scars? This week, Emily and V take a trip to Gotham City to look back at Alan Moore's Batman magnum opus, The Killing Joke. While it garnered tons of accolades for its darkness, grittiness, violence, and portrayal of The Joker's semi-definitive backstory, The Killing Joke has also received a lot of (totally warranted) criticism for its darkness... grittiness... violence... and misogyny. The history and continued legacy of what happened to Barbara Gordon in The Killing Joke is complex, dark, and hard to reconcile. Oracle was a badass character who represented a deeply underserved portion of the DC Comics audience; however, Gail Simone kind of had a point that it was metatextually misogyny keeping Babs in her chair. DC's choice(s) surrounding Barbara have no easy answers. However, your intrepid hosts do find a light in the dark-grim-grittiness of Gotham as they discover (create) its worst strip mall and the heroic citizens who brave its potholes...
