This week, Jared and Pauly From The DC New 52 Reviews discuss the New 52 Tony S Daniel run of Deathstroke. Deathstroke is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, the character first appeared in The New Teen Titans #2 as Deathstroke the Terminator. In his comic book appearances, Slade Wilson is a former U.S. Army operative who gains enhanced physical and mental abilities from an experimental super-soldier serum and becomes the mercenary Deathstroke. Widely considered the greatest and deadliest assassin in the DC Universe, he serves as the archenemy of Dick Grayson and the Teen Titans, and is also an adversary of other superheroes such as Batman, Green Arrow, and the Justice League. Deathstroke's vendetta against the Titans began when he swore revenge for the death of his eldest son Grant; his other two children, Jericho and Rose, would go on to join the Titans to oppose him. A bicolored black-and-orange mask that covers his missing right eye serves as Deathstroke's visual motif.Pauly's Links:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYEwWN2nZcy1z2tcefn76bQTwitter: https://x.com/new52review?s=21InstagramLike, comment, and subscribe for more content analyzing the greatest tales of DC and Marvel stories. Let's hear it for the boys. The Black Casebook returns with a deep dive into The Black Mirror, an Oedipal tale of fathers and sons that pits Dick Grayson, now in the role of Batman, against James Gordon Jr., reimagined here as a twisted psychopath. While Dick tangles with new threats popping up across Gotham, James sets an insidious plan into motion that could permanently infect the city with his brand of sadism. Please consider supporting Palestinians through a gift to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, ANERA, Doctors Without Borders, or the charity of your choice. You can find The Black Casebook on Twitter @blackcasebook, on Bluesky @blackcasebook, and Instagram @blackcasebookpod, and you can write in to blackcasebookpod@gmail.com to share any Bat-thoughts you have. Bat Therapy: Psychology of Batman and other Comic Superheroes
It's been a tense night of Gotham crime fighting. Bruce has been particularly ‘Batman' about everything, critiquing and correcting your every move. Sure, you're Dick Grayson so you laugh most of it off, but you are getting tired of it. You take a few deep breaths to recenter yourself.

Bat Therapy: Psychology of Batman and other Comic Superheroes
Is there anything more intimidating than being a superhero without superpowers? Oh, that's right, you could ALSO be Batman's sidekick, constantly comparing yourself to the very best and getting a lot of… “constructive” criticism. Talk about a situation that would leave most anybody feeling like a fraud. We delve into Dick Grayson's experience as the first Robin and how he overcomes the inevitable imposter syndrome to become a capable superhero in his own right. To learn more: Imposter Phenomenon & Environmental Effects Affecting Imposter Syndrome
(00:00:00) The Geek Matrix reviews DC's Weekly Comics Releases This week, that's: (00:33:43) #ActionComics 1071 (00:47:11) #WorldsFinest 32 (00:58:42) #Catwoman 69 (01:10:00) #GreenLantern 16 (01:38:52) #WonderWoman 14 (01:53:50) #Titans 16 (02:15:40) #Nightwing 118 (00:24:57) Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here's the run down – MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 – “Rated by Dash” – 4/5. This issue is just crazy but it is good and I love the pictures. Jenny Sparks #3 – 4/10 – Evil Captain Atom kills the enti8re Justice League team. But also didn't. Or maybe he did? And Jenny smokes. Such. Great. Writing. All points given for the art. Batman: Full Moon #1 – 7.5/10 – An interesting story. Batman's no stranger to horror stories, but this one feels written a little different. I enjoy it, and Subic's art. However, Subic… stop signing interior pages. You look incredibly full of yourself when you do that. It's in the credits. That's the only place it needs to be. Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #4 – 8/10 – I really hope that DKOS continues after this, like a White Knight kind of universe. Please. So fun to read, such great stories. Such good art. Batman and Robin: Year One #1 – 8.25/10 – This is a great year one story without it being an origin story. It's not campy or with cheesy dialog. I's written well; the art works awesome. It's a great time. The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley – 9/10 – This was awesome. Really. Like an origin story for the development of the Harley Quinn side of Harleen Quinzel. And Poison Ivy. It was done really well and the art works great for it too. It's not a kid's book, unless kids should read the F bomb, which does show up once along with some other profanity later in the book. So… if this was a movie, it would be rated PG 13. This Is Our Land – A Blue Beetle Story – 9.5/10 – A VERY rare 9.5 from me because of how absolutely amazing this book is. There's really not another way to describe it. It's relevant, has real meaning, is impactful and it gives a cool bit of an origin story. And it's written so damn well that I couldn't peel my eyes off of it, and may even go back and read it again. Unbelievably good. I couldn't recommend it more. Harley Quinn in Paradise #1 – 7.75/10 - It's a silly webcomic about Harley shortly after breaking up with the Joker. She's pissed off a lot of criminals and Poison Ivy warns her to hide… so her idea to make everyone love her while staying safe is … get cast on a reality show looking for true love. Ooohhhh boy. This should be something. The art is good, and I like Harley's new look at the end of the issue. Nothing Butt Nightwing #1 – 7/10 – A webcomic about Nightwing going undercover as a model while dealing with… being dumped by Babs. For a webcomic, this was actually not too bad. I've seen far worse. It was enjoyable for what it was… but… if an issue is centered around Dick Grayson's butt, only Nicola Scott should be asked to draw it. Art wasn't bad though. #ActionComics #WorldsFinest #Catwoman #GreenLantern #WonderWoman #Titans #Nightwing #DCAllIn #AllIn #Absolute #ComicsAreForEveryone #ComicsAreGreat #MakeComicsGreatAgain #AbsolutePower #DCComics #comics #comicbooks #TheGeekMatrix #TGM #TheGeekMatrixPod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support

Sony really does not have a gamer first mentality and if you think they do, stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Xbox shows up to play at TGS, Ubisoft faces its second strike in a year, Blizzard is making some interesting moves, and California wants gamers to be informed. Plus, Lionsgate faces another flop, but their is light on the horizon, DC seems to be seeing what sticks, and Hollywood loses some greats in the span of a week. ALSO, go watch Mr. McMahon on NETFLIX, because STONE COLD SAID SO!
Marvel Studios is truly going all-in on their only feature film this year, Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Variety, the studio plans to push for acknowledgment during awards season submitting for the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics Choice, and even the Oscars. It's Hugh Jackman's performance as Wolverine that is driving this decision, as the studio plans to position the actor for the awards in the supporting actor category. Among other categories, the box office buster will likely find a spot in the Golden Globes' new category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. HBO released the first trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 last week. With the melancholy musical theme from Pearl Jam in the background, the trailer shows Joel and Ellie's past catching up to them five years after the events of season one. We also see a lot of new cast members including Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, and Catherine O'Hara. The Hollywood Reporter learned that DC Studios is developing a villains-centric movie centered around the characters Bane and Deathstroke. While no director has been selected yet, Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton is working on the script. On the hero side, a new animated film was greenlit and will be called Dynamic Duo - focusing on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as the Robins in their early years. The feature film will use what's called Momo animation, a blend of CGI, stop-motion, and motion capture. Maggie Smith, the two-time Oscar and four-time Emmy winner best known for her work in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Harry Potter, and Downton Abbey has died. She was 89. Oscar nominee Tim Roth has become the latest high-profile name to join the cast of Netflix's Peaky Blinders movie and will join star Cillian Murphy as well as Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan. Variety has learned exclusively that Bill Hader and Duffy Boudreau are teaming up to develop a comedy pilot script at HBO. The official logline for the untitled project states, “A woman in a small town has a big secret revealed.” Hader and Boudreau will serve as co-writers and executive producers on the project. Previously, the two collaborated on HBO's Barry. Deadline has learned that Aaron Pierre and Stephan James have emerged as top choices to star alongside Kyle Chandler in Lanterns. The two are in conversations to play John Stewart opposite Chandler's Hal Jordan through sources caution that no offers have officially been made. The Wild Robot took the number one spot at the box office this weekend with a $35 million dollar opening. Elsewhere, Francis Ford Coppola's $120M self-financed Megalopolis tanked as expected with a studio-reported $4M 3-day in 6th place and a D+ Cinemascore. Netflix's Black Mirror has revealed the cast list for season 7 of the series which features newcomers, as well as cast returning for the USS Callister sequel episode. The list includes Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti, Rashida Jones, Cristin Milioti, Issa Rae, and Harriet Walter among many others. Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for the upcoming John Wick spin off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina starring Ana De Armas. The film will debut on June 6, 2025. Netflix has formally greenlit East of Eden, a seven-episode limited series based on John Steinbeck's 1952 novel. Zoe Kazan is adapting the novel and will serve as co-showrunner with Jeb Stuart. The series will star Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, and Hoon Lee. AppleTV has released the first trailer for the second season of Shrinking starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. The 12-episode season premieres October 16 with two episodes, followed by one episode dropping each week until December 25. Maika Monroe, who starred earlier this year in the horror film Longlegs, has been cast to lead 20th Century's new take on the 1992 classic horror film The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Michelle Garza Cervera will direct with Micah Bloomberg penning the script..
DC Studios has announced Dynamic Duo, an animated film featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Directed by Arthur Mintz and produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the film will use a unique blend of animation, puppetry, and CGI. Matt Reeves' 6th & Idaho production banner is involved, with a script by Matthew Aldrich. This standalone project will explore the legacy of the Robins, showcasing Grayson as the original Robin and Todd's transformation into Red Hood after his death at the hands of the Joker. Dynamic Duo promises to captivate both Batman fans and family audiences alike.

Show notes provided by Joe Peluso Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" Richie Garofalo (not Michael Corleone) referring to James, Chirs and Joe after they wax poetic about Nightwing and Batman/Superman:World's Finest, in the latest Book Club Edition episode. The Fab Four are back to ponder, pontificate, and pursue the merits of two of DC Comics' best-selling current ongoing books:Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing and Mark Waid and Dan Mora's Batman/SupermanWorld's Finest. The boys do a deep dive into the inaugural runs on these two very popular comics. The themes of family, friends, and fun are explored in detail. Who's there to pick up Dick Grayson up when he falls? Who made Dick the hero and man he is today? How deep is the friendship betweenBruce and Clark? And how does Mark Waid remember all those obscure characters from the annals of DC Comics' past? And with the current run of Taylor and Redondo's Nightwing coming to an end, along with Waid and Mora moving over to Justice League Unlimited, who will be taking the reins of these two fan-favoritetitles? As for Richie, now that he is partially back in the "famiglia" of current "fumetti" readers, will he buy the books monthly or go the Perel route and wait for the trades?

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the family was at the forefront of DC creators' minds. We couldn't escape the topic when discussing superheroics. Plus, we've been pretty anxious on the podcast, contemplating the ramifications of city saviors placing their loved ones above the citizens of Gotham City and Metropolis. Does the person on the street want Superman to have a son? A wife? A cousin? Thankfully, we can corner Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki at the DC booth and force them to process our ridiculous worries. In October, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return to the early days of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson in Batman and Robin: Year One. The twelve-issue maxi-series promises to delve into their unique relationship, revealing how Bruce Wayne learned to parent while keeping Joker behind bars. During the same month, Waid and Mariko Tamaki will share Action Comics as the Superman ongoing goes weekly. Waid, alongside artist Clayton Henry, will focus on Kal-El's problems post-Absolute Power while Mariko Tamaki and artist Skler Partridge continue their deep dive into Supergirl's inner life. For the first half of today's episode, we speak with Mark Waid two-on-one, digging into Bruce and Dick's getting-to-know-you phase. We discuss Bruce's lack of familial role models, his inability or unwillingness to see Alfred as a father, and how he wanted Absolute Power to speak to the moment. In the back half, we have both Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki on our microphone. We then focus on the Superman family, paying particular attention to Supergirl and the secrets Tamaki is unveiling to her readers. The first issue of Batman and Robin: Year One lands in comic shops on October October 16th. Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki join Action Comics on issue 1070, which arrives on October 9th.
