Tonight, we are tasting:2020 Koonunga Hill, Shiraz Cabernet. Penfolds Wines South Australia. The winery is one of the best known in Australia and was established in 1844. Deep purple color, sweet dark dense berries, chocolate. Medium acidity, full-bodied, 14.5% alcohol. Flavors of vanilla bean creaminess and warm spice. Dried rosemary and sage might give appearance of earthiness. I purchased at Costco for $8. I mostly saw this wine running around $11, but I did see an online clearance sale (at Fine Wine and Good Spirits) for $4.33 (it said $11.26 off). The wine comes from the South Australia, but is a multi-regional blend. 65% Shiraz and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon.2020 Max's Shiraz Cabernet Penfolds. I purchased this wine at WineStyles for $17.00. Wine Enthusiast says aromas of blackberry jam, cherry cordial, pencil shavings and sweet vanilla bean-and-dark-chocolate oak influence. Rich, balanced acidity with tannins in the background. Could benefit from a few more years of aging. The wine scored a 92 from Wine Enthusiast. 70% Shiraz and 30% cabernet Sauvignon. 14.5% alcohol.2021 Bin 28 Shiraz Penfolds. Purchased at Wall to Wall Wine for $30. Wine Enthusiast says dense, ripe and powerful with quite a bit of oak. Chocolate with dark fruit and pepper spice on the nose. Flavor is rich and luscious, muscular tannins support rather than overpowers. Could age for a few more years. The wine was scored a 93 from the Wine Enthusiast. The wine is aged in American Oak for 12 months. 14.5% alcohol.We both liked #2 Max's Shiraz/Cabernet the best, and we thought this was the best buy of the night. I also liked #3 Bin 28 Shiraz, a very powerful fruity-oaky wine. I felt it lost a little balance because of the amount of oak, Denise didn't care for it's finish. Neither of us really cared for #1 Koonunga Hill, Shiraz/Cabernet. Next week we are exploring white wines of Australia.

Werde ich durch den gesellschaftlichen Rahmen bestimmt, in den ich hineingeboren und in dem ich aufgewachsen bin? Was bestimme ich selbst, und was gibt meine Umgebung vor? Kann ich meine Identität jederzeit ändern, oder gibt es fixe Bestandteile, die unumkehrbar mein »Ich« ausmachen? In einer Gesellschaft, in der jeder aus seiner Perspektive denkt, werden die Grenzen der Identität scheinbar zusehends fließend und veränderlich. Der Einzelne nimmt immer mehr das Recht in Anspruch, über sich selbst zu verfügen: Ich bestimme selbst, wer ich bin!Der Frage nach der eigenen Identität hat sich auch der deutsche Theologe Dietrich Bonhoeffer genähert. In der Einsamkeit der Haft in Berlin-Tegel erlebte er eine innerliche Zwiespältigkeit. Seine Erfahrungen verarbeitete er 1944 in dem sehr persönlichen Gedicht »Wer bin ich?«. Nach außen, in der Fremdwahrnehmung der Wärter und Mithäftlinge, war er »gelassen und heiter und fest ... frei, und freundlich und klar ... gleichmütig, lächelnd und stolz«. In seiner Eigenwahrnehmung hingegen war er »unruhig ... krank ... ringend ... zitternd ... ohnmächtig bangend ... müde ... leer«. Angesichts dieser gegensätzlichen Wahrnehmungen stellte er sich die Frage: »Wer bin ich? Bin ich der oder jener? Bin ich heute dieser und morgen ein andrer? Bin ich beides zugleich?«Bonhoeffer hat diese Spannung in eigentümlicher Art aufgelöst: »Wer ich auch bin, Du kennst mich, Dein bin ich, o Gott.« Nicht das zähe Ringen um die eigene Vorstellung von mir macht meine Identität aus: Entscheidend ist, dass Gott mich kennt und ich ihm gehöre. Und trotzdem zweifeln sie. An ihrem Preis. An ihrer Fähigkeit. An ihrer Größe. Her şeyi en güzel şekilde yaratan Yüce Allah şöyle buyurmuştur: “Binâsını Allah (c.c.) korkusu ve rızası üzerine kuran kimse mi daha hayırlıdır; yoksa yapısını yıkılacak bir çukurun kenarına kurup onunla birlikte kendisi de çöküp cehennem ateşine gidecek kimse mi daha hayırlıdır?” (Tevbe S. 109) (Ebu Tâlib-i Mekki, Kût'ul-Kulub s. 609)

In diesem Gespräch mit Christian Holzhausen widmen wir uns einer Frage, die viele Leben steuert und kaum ausgesprochen wird: Bin ich gut genug? Wir betreten damit einen inneren Raum, in dem mentale Intelligenz und emotionale Wahrheit aufeinandertreffen. Diese Frage entsteht aus Vergleichen, aus alten Maßstäben, aus dem Wunsch, endlich zu genügen. Wir sprechen darüber, wie sich Wert häufig aus Leistung, Anerkennung und äußeren Standards formt und wie genau darin der Kern des inneren Konflikts liegt. Wir teilen persönliche Erfahrungen mit Depression, Perfektionismus und dem tiefen Bedürfnis, sich selbst beweisen zu müssen, dass man reicht. Dabei wird deutlich, wie früh diese Muster entstehen und wie eng sie mit Identität verbunden sind. Die Frage nach dem Genügen zeigt sich als Ausdruck eines alten Mangels, der nach Aufmerksamkeit ruft. Transformationsprozesse beginnen genau hier. Im bewussten Hinsehen. Im Spüren der Emotionen. Im Ernstnehmen der eigenen Geschichte. Mentale Gesundheit entfaltet sich, wenn wir lernen, Selbstzweifel als Signal zu lesen statt als Urteil. Wir beleuchten, wie besonders selbstständige Menschen, Coaches und Dienstleister in einen ständigen inneren Bewerbungsmodus geraten und wie sich daraus neue Formen von Klarheit entwickeln können. Wert zeigt sich als Beziehung zu sich selbst. Nicht als Zahl. Nicht als Status. Sondern als Haltung. Dieses Gespräch verbindet mentale Intelligenz mit emotionaler Ehrlichkeit. Und trotzdem passiert oft das Gegenteil. Viele hochgebildete, kompetente Frauen zweifeln stärker an sich als je zuvor. Sie fragen sich: „Bin ich wirklich gut genug?“ „Reicht das, was ich kann?“ „Habe ich das wirklich verdient?“ In dieser Folge spreche ich über dieses Paradox – und warum mehr Wissen nicht automatisch mehr Selbstsicherheit bedeutet. In this episode, I'm speaking with Li Bin. Bin is a Deputy Head of School here in Hong Kong and formerly Asia-Pacific Regional Manager for the International Baccalaureate's Middle Years Programme. The famous street artist Banksy shocked the art world in 2018 when his painting, Girl with Balloon, partially shredded itself moments after selling it for over a million dollars. at a Sotheby's auction in London. Banksy had secretly built a mechanical shredder into the painting's ornate frame, turning the destruction into a piece of performance art which was later authenticated and renamed Love Is in the Bin. He did this to make a statement about the art market's hyper-commercialization. One of the most famous and influential philosophers of the ancient world enjoyed doing similar types of shocking stunts to make his point in the most memorable way possible. Diogenes the Cynic had a reputation for eccentricity. He lived in a large clay wine jar and owned almost nothing, a demonstration that true freedom and happiness come from self-sufficiency. He defecated in public, and when criticized, he asked why it was acceptable to eat there but not to perform other natural acts, illustrating that social shame is arbitrary and not rooted in nature or reason. Since his death in 323 BC, devoted followers made him and his ideas famous the world over. But some modern philosophers like Friedrich Hegel thought of him as just a shock jock. To him, Diogenes had a way of life based on simple, isolated maxims and provocative anecdotes—like those of a folk figure—rather than a fully developed, systematic philosophical system that truly captured the evolving spirit of reason in history. Today’s guest is Inger Kuin, author of “Diogenes: The Rebellious Life and Revolutionary Philosophy of the Original Cynic.“ We look at this iconoclastic philosopher whose brash and free-thinking vision of life ended up inspiring the philosophy of Stoicism. His philosophy stresses the importance of living here and now and not concerning ourselves with things out of our control.
