Based on some ideas from Kaner, Amby is planning a Black Death variant. Basically a Europa Renovatio map modified back in time approximately 100 years to the starting period of the Black Death  (1 hr 43 mins 30 secs) Amby goes onto discuss how he plans to keep the board generally balanced, similar to Europa Renovatio (1 hr 48 mins) He goes onto discuss how the randomness of the hurricane in the Pirates variant (a non playing player who moves and spawns randomly) could be bumped up to multiple units as the Black Death (1 hr 50 mins 30 secs) Kaner gives his suggestion about plague spawning (1 hr 52 mins 35 secs) Kaner recommends Amby plug into tobi1's coding skills instead of pushing for Oli's time (2 hr 0 mins 50 secs) They discuss what the image should be for the Black Death. Kaner suggests you do a Google images search for Hieronymus Bosch to give an idea of what he has in mind (2 hr 2 mins 50 secs) The guys start wrapping up the show (2 hrs 5 mins 45 secs) Venue: Malt, Brisbane Drinks of choice: Kaner: House malt lager Amby - Hither and Yon shiraz from the McLaren Vale, and later the House malt lager Just a reminder you can support the show by giving it 5 stars on iTunes or Stitcher. It’s vacation time! We can see ourselves sleeping in, sipping hot coffee, and diving into a good book. But it’s more likely someone will get sick, the traffic will be terrible, and the diaper bag will be left at the house. In this episode, Emily and Laura offer a “Mom Heart Check” to help find the root of difficulty in family trips. When we travel, it’s not about being served but about serving others. We can prep our hearts before, during, and after a trip by rethinking our expectations and remembering the servant love of Christ. How do you view vacations for your family? A chance to get away? The highlight of the year? A time for you to clock out? No matter how well we plan, we’ll be met with interruptions, surprises, and challenges when we travel. What difficulties have you experienced on trips? Were your responses honoring to God and your family? If not, what would have been a godly response in that situation? When things are difficult we often blame everyone around us. While it may not be anyone’s fault, our responses reveal our trust in things other than God. Do you believe God is in control of your trip? How does this truth stop blame-shifting and enable us to extend grace in all things? After kids, “vacation” doesn’t mean the same thing it once did. There are needs to meet for our families no matter where we are, so we need a right understanding of service. How does God serve you as you serve your family—even on vacation? Are you ever without his help or grace? It helps to set your mind and heart on the right things before a trip begins. Consider the sin issues that pop up when you travel. Think of past examples of common challenges that may happen again. How can you respond kindly and graciously? How can you help your kids understand how to love God and others while traveling? How can you communicate the gospel to your family before, during, and after vacation? FOR MORE: To subscribe: on iOS, go to our iTunes page and subscribe. School bullying gets an awful lot of media coverage. Character education, not so much. And yet if we are truly serious about reducing peer conflict in school, we've got to be educating kids to be empathetic, compassionate humans with the social courage to do the right thing, online and off. Annie talks with school counselor Barabara Gruener about her new book "What's Under your Cape? Superheroes of the Character Kind". They also discuss why character counts and why teaching kids people skills needs to be a top priority for 21st century parents and educators. About Barbara Gruener School counselor and character coach Barbara Gruener grew up on her family's dairy farm in Wisconsin. She says her parents "always welcomed people into our home including foreign exchange students and foster children—so I learned to appreciate culture and diversity!" She currently works her friendship skill building and character magic with the K-5th grade students at Westwood-Bales Elementary School in Friendswood, TX (I didn't make that up!)
