My name is Troy A. Burgher, the host of this show, and the Owner of TAB Training & Consulting, LLC. The vision of TAB Training & Consulting, LLC is to bridge the technology literacy gap. So, I remember being told by my mom “everything has a place and therefore makes it easy to find and easier to put back in its proper place.” Little did I know that this would be my first lesson in becoming an organized person and professional that I am today. I think I drive my wife crazy with it sometimes and is the one common trait that I am known for possessing by my professional colleagues. One thing I learned early on in my journey as an entrepreneur, which began more than 25 years ago, is the importance of being organized; not just for myself, but more importantly for my business clients & training students. The only thing that has changed over the many years are the tools that I use to stay organized; both within my business and how I operate outside of my business wither at a client’s location or even in a classroom setting. I'll be sharing during the broadcast more about an "organizational" tool that I use on a regular basis starting with my #1 tool for keeping me organized and that is the application – Microsoft OneNote. Food for Thought: Imagine purchasing an item and the instructions are missing from the box. What will you do? Here are two options; forge ahead using the picture on the box as a guide, bring the item back to the store, or use the Internet to search for and download the instructions. Why is this important? The instructions are organized in such a way that if followed, it will yield the best chance of success in putting together the item the way it was intended to be completed. Without the instructions (a series of detailed [organized & planned] steps telling how something should be done) the desired results may not be achieved.
Troy A. Burgher states confidently and with great conviction that technology is the key to achieving one’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2019. Coming off a severe medical issue in 2018, one of the comforting aspects of dealing with that issue (outside of the tremendous support of family and friends) was technology and how I was able to begin my preparation for a comeback year in 2019. Technology afforded me the ability to learn new skills, communicate with family & friends, work on my newly created business, maximize the time I had due to being restricted to my home during recovery, and I was even able to develop a virtual business relationship another business owner for accountability. Over the next two TABRadio broadcasts (1/20/19 & 1/27/19) and also on my business web site’s (www.tabtraining.com) blog page, I will be sharing in more detail, how I will continue to use technology as a tool to develop and build up my self-discipline to handle the obstacles and discomfort associated with making changes in order to develop new habits. It’s often stated that it takes anywhere from 21-66 days to form a new habit, so I must also show great patience for myself during this process; much like I‘ve done throughout my computer training career; lasting over a 25 year span.
Do something different this holiday season by giving someone a gift that will keep giving. Give the gift of knowledge that will provide a long-lasting benefit and grow in value over time. Today so much effort and time are spent on being “in the moment”, with very little time spent on planning for the future. Everything has to happen now! "I want an answer to my work issue by clicking on this phone app – now!" Or, "I want a job paying more money because I want to live a certain lifestyle – now! Or, even better, I want the raise and promotion (that someone else worked hard to acquire) - now! Even though I feel I am the right candidate, so what I didn’t take the employee advancement courses at work that would have qualified me for the raise and promotion." I am sure that you've heard all of these scenarios before, ones that I have come across as a trainer with over 25 years of employee training and working as a freelancer facilitating computer literacy/Microsoft Office Application classes. Why not take this opportunity to empower someone (family member, friend, or co-worker) to help them help themselves. Show them you really care by helping them invest in building up their technology literacy? Give that person the “Gift of Knowledge” this holiday season.
There are two "technology literacy" gaps in the workplace! 25 years ago, I started working in an office-type environment where one’s technology literacy was based on the ability to "use" a computer, a printer, a copy machine, and a fax machine in order to perform his/her daily job duties. So much has changed since then, especially when it comes to administrative-type tasks and duties that were once the sole responsibility of the administrative department or staff within an organization. Now with so much information easily accessible in an unbelievably face-paced workplace, the dependency of an "administrative only" staff breaks the budget or it puts management in a tough position of dealing with their own "technology literacy" gap that exists between them and the admin line worker. As a result of this, TAB Training & Consulting, LLC has created a unique service that aims to bridge the gap that exists between the employee and job-related admin tasks and the gap that exists between management and the admin front-line employees. What used to be, and still is in many cases, the headache of a company's IT Department that exhausts staff resources, we are addressing through the employee onboarding process and by offering company-oriented and goal-specific training to relieve the stress caused due to the lack of administrative-related daily tasks. Learn more about how we plan to address this situation through our virtual learning platform as we empower employees to become more efficient, effective, and productive users of technology.
Technology and computer literacy are important skills necessary to succeed personally and professionally. Just like a carpenter needs the right tools, along with the knowledge and expertise on how to use such tools to succeed, so do we need the right tools in our technology tool chest to succeed in various aspects of our lives. During this TABRadio broadcast session we will introduce our concept of a TABTechnology Tool Chest (Technology And Business Tool Chest) while focusing on April as Financial Literacy Month. Therefore, featuring commonly used features within Microsoft Excel and looking at some under-used features all geared to help us with our personal and business finances. We will discuss 50 general technology and computer literacy items you can also immediately add to your tool chest during our TABWeek celebration starting on April 29th and ending on May 3rd. During which time we are offering four days of FREE webinars covering everything from "What's Under the Hood of Your Laptop/Computer System" to "Purchasing the right Microsoft Office Suite Product." What a wonderful way to return to our regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon TABRadio broadcasts than on Mother's Day to acknowledge three individuals, yes you guessed it - all moms, that have been so instrumental in my life and in the development of the person that I am. During today's broadcast, I will highlight how each of these individuals played such a crucial role in my pursuit of achieving success as a social entrepreneur completely dedicated to enhancing the human capital and technology literacy of individuals residing in socially and economically challenged communities. These three moms are my grandmother (Rose Hamilton), my Mom (Brenda Timms), and my sister (Tracy Burgher). I am also the first to admit that there have been so many other moms that have greatly influenced the person that I have become, but these three are the ones that were pioneers to me - showing me how to survive against all odds and how to persevere against life's many obstacles. Please listen in to hear more about how these three individuals have helped me develop those intangible qualitied I will need to achieve the success that I have outlined in both my personal and professional life.
Creating efficient, effective, and productive users of technology is what drives his passion for training, consulting, coaching and helping individuals overcome their fear and anxiety of technology and computers. Learn more about Troy A. Burgher, a former resident of Edgemere Houses [of the New York City Housing Authority] located in Far Rockaway, Queens [New York City], and his entrepreneurial journey. Ever since he stood in for a computer trainer back and “guru”, in the early 90’s, at the Rev. Mason Beacon Program within his neighborhood, he’s developed a passion for sharing his knowledge of computers and software applications with residents of inner-city communities; in particular desktop applications within the Microsoft Office Suite of applications. Growing up in Edgemere Houses, there were no or very limited local technology and computer literacy resources, overshadowed by sports and craft-related activities, for Troy entertain his thirst for exploring computers. This is what motivated him toward a life-long pursuit to bridging the technology literacy gap that exists in the inner-city community. 25+ years later of freelance training, facilitating technology literacy workshops, and developing training programs has given him solid practical experience in working with and motivating beginner and novice users; transforming them into more efficient, effective and productive users of technology and computers.

Since April is Financial Literacy Month and tax time has passed, let's begin focusing on our finances for the remainder of 2015. I know you have been putting your receipts into a shoebox or an accordion file, so let’s start recording, tracking and managing those expenses so we can make some basic financial decisions like; what vacation(s) can we schedule this year? Which expense(s) can we cut back on to start saving towards our year-end-goal? Let me share with you this awesome tool that you can create by attending my signature Microsoft Excel training program called the "Manage Your Personal Finances" or MYPF Learning Program. The MYPF Learning Program takes a total of eight hours to complete. During the training you will learn various Microsoft Excel functions and concepts that will provide you with knowledge that can be used in other aspects of your life (personally, professionally, or academically). The program is now being offered in a virtual platform, over the Internet, and it is designed for the beginner or novice computer user. All that you need is the Microsoft Office Excel application and an Internet connection. The goal of the program is to help individuals become more "efficient, effective and productive" users of technology. Join me during the broadcast to learn more about this simple and easy-to-use tool that you create as the result of completing the MYPF Learning Program.
Did you know that April is Financial Literacy Month? Do you have in place the means to track your daily, weekly, or monthly expenses? Was this one of your New Year’s Resolutions...and how is that going? I know, from personal experience, that recording things like "where I spend my money" and "how much I spend on certain non-essential items are things I don't like to know about or see (especially in a documented format). What typically works for most is to just check the current bank balance(s) and determine how things are until the next payday...but in that regard, how does one truly understand where money is being spent? This is something that my family and I had to deal with, just within the past year. During this broadcast I will be promoting April as Financial Literacy Month and the importance of knowing the how much, the where, the when and the why of our personal spending habits as a way to begin leveraging our financial status. Join me during the broadcast to learn more about simple ways to use the technology that is already at our fingertips (literally) as a way to get a better grasp of our financial picture. You can simply listen in to the broadcast or you can call in if you have a question or a comment that you would like to add. I look forward to you joining me this upcoming Sunday at 3:00 pm.

One day while looking at my home page for my Facebook account I came across a post as follows, "Sometimes GOD has to let you wreck yourself so HE can build you back up!" I could not help but to take a long pause and I must have re-read that post 30 or 40 times. It would eventually give me clear perspective on what I have been experiencing for the past 6-7 months...and provided me with a clear understanding of what I needed to strt doing to change things. Now it all made sense. Tune in to my show to hear how these 15 words changed my life! And also how knowing that sometimes we just have to "hit botom" before we realize what's in store for us amongst the clouds!
Join me as I discuss the importance of technology and computer literacy for today’s student especially in online learning environments. This particular topic is very special to me as my wife, Renee Burgher, has returned to college and currently attends Phoenix University in pursuit of her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. All of the academic projects and assignments she submits for grading are completed using either Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft OneNote; learn how she uses the other applications to stay organized and manage the academic part of her life. Listen in so you will know how to maximize the use of these tools, whether for yourself or for a significant other, to ensure academic success.
Please join me as I share the results of my professional quest to research the importance of technology and computer literacy for entrepreneurs and new small business owners. As a solo-preneur myself I have truly benefited from maximizing the benefits of technology and computers when it comes to equalizing the playing field with my competition. As a result of this journey, I have re-focused my training & consulting efforts to educate entrepreneurs and small business owners on how to become more efficient, effective and productive users of technology with a strong focus on the Microsoft Office Suite of applications. After-all, how can you ignore this statistic….according to Microsoft, 1.1 billion people (or 1 in 7 people on the planet) use Microsoft Office. I am quite sure that a significant percentage of these users includes entrepreneurs & start-up small business owners. If you currently use Microsoft Office or have been thinking about purchasing the suite of applications, then you don’t’ want to miss this broadcast on learning more about how Microsoft Office Suite applications can be applied to your business!
Since January of 2014, I have gone on a personal and professional quest to research the importance of technology literacy in the workplace...and it truly amazes me how individuals today still take for granted the importance and necessity of technology literacy skills in the workplace. I came across article after article about the importance of being computer literate in the workplace, the importance of basic computer skills and the importance of computers skills as an office professional. Therefore I am re-focusing my training & consulting efforts to educate individuals on how to become more efficient, effective and productive users of technology with a strong focus on the Microsoft Office Suite applications. After-all, how can you ignore this statistic….according to Microsoft, 1.1 billion people (or 1 in 7 people on the planet) use Microsoft Office. Today’s broadcast will discuss how the very applications that sit on desktops at many places of work offer individuals more options and a greater ability to become successful employees in the workplace…the catch is enhance one’s technology skill sets, identify the issues and obstacles they face, and to begin integrating these new skills sets with the experience each individual possesses to minimize, if not, eliminate these obstacles. I am starting with the workplace during this broadcast and I will discuss how to achieve e-squared-p at home, professionally, and academically on future broadcasts. So stop by my web site, www.tabtraining.com, or lookup TABRadio here on BlogTalkRadio.
Often times we take for granted just how important technology literacy is in our personal, professional and academic lives. For example, I am a diabetic and therefore it is very important for me to monitor my glucose levels; I use Microsoft Excel to track my glucose readings, the times at which I take my glucose readings, the food that I have eaten that day and I also track the highs, lows and averages for the week. I even have charts and graphs to display trends in a pictorial way. Tracking this information allows me to make any necessary changes to my diet, exercise routine and the occasional treat - a piece of "real" lemon cake (not sugar free). That is just one of many ways that I use technology to help me on a personal level. It is only through knowing about Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets that I would have known to use this program to help me with my health. Listen in to learn more about the different Microsoft Office Suite applications (that you probably already have on your computer, laptop, tablet or smart phone) and some of the ways you can use them personally, professionally and academically.
Microsoft OneNote is an invaluable tool for anyone and everyone! Whether used as an academic tool (it's original purpose), a professional tool or a personal tool...if you have any of the Microsoft Office Suites that come with OneNote...please start using it! Listen to this broadcast to learn how you can begin using it in all aspects of your life and achieve a level of organization that you could not previously imagine! I will demonstrate how OneNote can be used in all phases of your life! I look forward to you listening in to the broadcast.
Today's broadcast is based from a discovery that came from a class session that I conducted at Grace Lutheran Church yesterday afternoon. The attendees all have backgrounds as teachers/trainers and use technology as part of their daily professional careers and personal lives. Yet, I was able to show them a way to create a tool that could be used to manage contract labor/employee timesheets (hours worked, hourly rate, etc...) for an organization or business. I hope you listen in to the broadcast today to learn more about this simple solution and just how important it is to think “outside of the box”!
Join me as I discuss how I plan to initiate the "Technology Literacy Movement" locally within areas of Concord & Charlotte (NC). The plan will consist of workshops, webinars and training sessions offered through local community-based organizations. Social media will be a main ingredeient to reaching an even larger audience while adding the ability for interaction with those interested in joining this movement.
This is the first broadcast of the 2014 by Troy A. Burgher, owner of TAB Training & Consulting, as he outlines the services offered by his business and the direct connection to the movement that he will embark on in 2014; a "Back to the Basics - Technology Literacy MOVEMENT." Mr. Burgher understands that such a movement will take more that himself (and his business) to get started...therefore he will be building partnerships with other individuals, business owners and organizations that also believe that technology literacy is key to personal, academic and business success.
Today’s broadcast is a 10-month recap of services and events sponsored, facilitated or implemented by TAB Training & Consulting, LLC toward promoting the mission of bridging the technology literacy gap in the city of Concord (NC). The January 20th TABRadio broadcast of this year was the kickoff broadcast and I wanted to do a recap on what has happened since that day. While society is truly fortunate to possess new technologies that did not exist 10-20 years ago; there still seems to be a large disparity between those that have access and can maximize the benefits of such technological advancement to achieve academic, personal, and professional success versus those that do not have the same access to technology. However, I want to point out a shift in the Paradigm regarding how we define the word “access” when it comes to technology literacy (more to come about this shift during the broadcast). During this broadcast I will share my personal experiences from the past 10 months that strongly point to the importance of technology literacy at home, in the workplace and in the community. Today’s broadcast will be one of many efforts taken on by TAB Training & Consulting, LLC as a vehicle for bridging the technology literacy gap that exists in technologically challenged communities (more on that new “category” in the broadcast). Join me and listen in on what I have learned this year and for my suggestions on how to continue the momentum that has been created here in Concord, NC that can be replicated in any other technologically-challenged community in the US. Join me as I plan for a 2014 campaign designed to make great strides in your academic, personal and professional lives by increasing your knowledge of computer and technology literacy.
It all began a week before MY BIG day...the wedding and marriage to the love of my life for LIFE! On this last day of "official business” just before the wedding and honeymoon...Disaster would Strike!!! Needless to say I had plenty of other things on my mind...then this happens - my hard drive crashed! Are you overwhelmed by computers and technology? I will provide the three simple steps on how to use technology to get over that anxiety! I’ll share with you one example on the secret to working with numbers and how to use technology (the cause of most anxiety) to overcome the very obstacle that stands in your way to success. Imagine that! Don’t we go to the doctor when we are not feeling well to get a shot of medicine that contains a variation of the very same thing that made us sick in the first place? With that tidbit of information I hope you will join me Sunday afternoon for what I think will be a very interesting discussion on how to overcome computer and technology anxiety.

This session is dedicated to understanding the importance of computer and technology literacy as it relates to building and developing human capital. The problem with some computer training programs is that there is no measurement of what the attendees learn; rather there is an emphasis placed on how “well” the trainer “performed”. We at TAB Training & Consulting, LLC have always placed emphasis on what we call “EP.” This signature process places focus on providing individuals with the knowledge and tools to become more Efficient, Effective and Productive users of technology. Check out this broadcast and learn more about E-squared-P [EP].
Use technology to get organized! There are plenty of tools to choose from, not to mention the growing list of apps being developed for the every type of computer system out there. Let me share with you one tool that I think does not get the recognition that it warrants. OneNote…stereotyped as a tool for academics…it can be an awesome tool for business professionals as well

Technological literacy is defined as being able to use, manage and understand technology. Using technology is being successful in the operation of equipment, knowing the components of the existing system and how the system behaves. Managing technology is ensuring that all activities are efficient and appropriate. Understanding technology involves the ability to synthesize information through new insights. Let's explore how using, managing and understanding technology is an important element in achieving professional, personal and academic success in our life.
Human capital is defined by companies as the stock of skills and knowledge embodied in the ability of an employee to perform labor so as to produce economic value. It is these skills and the knowledge gained by that employee through experience and education. This is such a powerful way of associating what an employee brings to the workplace, that we, as individuals, should take this same approach in analyzing our own “human capital.” Thus we can determine ways in which to develop and enhance this human capital to benefit our own future. Listen to tonight’s broadcast to learn about a tool that can be used to accomplish such a task and also learn where to begin on this road to developing and enhancing your human capital.

The first thing that comes to mind, which should be pretty obvious, is to do some research before heading out to the local computer or technology store to shop and compare. This broadcast will focus on 10 general things to be considered before purchasing your next computer.
