Have you every scrolled through social media and been embarrassed by what you saw another Christian post? Maybe you saw the head of the usher board at a concert in a compromising position. You may have read a church leader's post ranting and full of malice and gossip. Paul encourages men and women to live out sound teaching and Christian living. Paul writes that our works should be done with integrity (Titus 2). This means that when we look around, we should see fellow believers display integrity, consistently in every area of their lives. For the follower of Christ, integrity is not an option—it is required in every aspect of life. Integrity comes from the same root word for integer: a whole and complete number. A person of integrity is one person; he is the same through and through. The post CHARACTER COUNTS – Integrity (YOU-Sum'25, Study 6, Session 2) appeared first on YOU.
This is session 6 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: Be the same Christ-centered person at all times.
Black churches seek to serve their communities, and it takes generosity to provide resources and space to serve. God's abundant grace moves us toward a generous lifestyle. The post CHARACTER COUNTS – Generosity (YOU-Sum'25, Study 5, Session 2) appeared first on YOU.
This is session 5 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: God's generous grace moves us to be generous.
MORE. That might be the best description of the human condition. It seems that no matter what we have, we still have a craving for more. What's the solution to this discontent? In Paul's letter to the Philippians, Scripture unfolds the “secret” of contentment, independent of circumstances and solely dependent on the person of Jesus Christ. The post CHARACTER COUNTS – Contentment (YOU-Sum'25, Study 4, Session 2) appeared first on YOU.
This is session 4 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: Be content in the power and provision of God.
During the 2024 Olympics, America celebrated winning over 120 medals. While some athletes were bold and others were boastful, McLaughlin-Lavrone is one athlete that took to the national stage displaying humility and her love for Christ. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is a world-class athlete and gold medal Olympian. She has broken her own records multiple times and by most standards, has a lot to boast about. After beating her world record the World Athletics Championship 2022, she credited God for her achievements. She was quoted as responding to her achievements with, “Praise. His. Name.” She also acknowledged the role that prayer played in her preparation and quoted Scripture on social media. She not only credits God with her athletic accomplishes, but she also shares God's influence in her personal life. During her engagement, she spoke of the importance her fiancés faith in God played in their relationship. Regardless of how good you are at a task, humility is required. This is session 3 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: Consider the needs of others before your own.
What in your home points to a love for Jesus? The Bible points us to a quality that is a critical piece of our spiritual lives: godliness. Have you ever played the game Jenga? Think of godliness as the one Jenga™ piece apart from which the whole structure falls. Without godliness, the structure of our lives as believers falls apart. The post CHARACTER COUNTS – Godliness (YOU-Sum'25, Study 2, Session 2) appeared first on YOU.
This is session 2 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: A godly life points others to Christ.
Character reveals the truth about who we really are. An ancient letter written to some believers in Christ affirms that what is needed for a character makeover is available to those who believe. While it takes some effort on our part to experience deep change, it brings lasting benefits. This is session 1 of the study "Character Counts." The Point is: God equips us for Christlike character.
Today we continue our study through the book of Judges. Gideon has passed away and the land has enjoyed 40 years of rest. Unfortunately, his son, Abimilech, has made a play to become king. Abimilech has played the family card to gain a following while also hiring mercenaries to eliminate his competition for leadership. That competition just happened to be his seventy brothers. Ungodly leadership is never beneficial. Scripture text is Judges 9:1-57.
On this episode of The Ride To The Rink, Lee shares a simple story that left a big impression—and reminds every young player (and parent) why the way you act off the ice matters just as much as the way you play on it. After a young player was complimented by a stranger for his manners and kindness, Lee and Mike break down what it means to represent your team and your sport in everyday life, and why those little things—like saying “please” and “thank you”—can make a huge difference.A short but meaningful message about respect, accountability, and the kind of character that makes great teammates—and great people.Click To Text The Our Kids Play Hockey Team!Have A Topic You Want Us To Cover? This growth enhances the anointing we carry as we embody Christ's teachings. - Wisdom Through Life's Lessons: Learn how personal battles and life experiences cultivate wisdom. God promises companionship on our journey, bringing faithful people into our lives who reflect His love and purpose. - The Influence of Christ's Image: When others recognize the Christ in us, their response often exceeds our expectations. This teaching reflects on how this visibility can lead to unexpected support and encouragement along our paths. - Understanding Struggles: Gain insight into the nature of struggles in our lives as indicators of our alignment with God's will and the embodiment of divine wisdom. Why Character Counts:When People Aren't What They Seem Interview with Dr. Evan Parks In this Faith and Family Fellowship episode, Dallas interviews Dr. Evan Parks. He advocates for greater awareness and provision of mental health services within the mission community to protect and sustain effective ministry. Whatever influences the way we think, believe, and act is of paramount importance.
Today's show opens with two members of the The Squad and how they do not put America or the Constitution first. We recap a bit of AOC's tantrum and threat to file impeachment charges against the members of the Supreme Court of the United States who refuse to do what she tells them. Then, we recap a rally in Ilhan Omar's district where the Prime Minister of Somalia tells everyone that Ilhan does not do what's good for her, for Minnesota or the United States. Illhan does what's good for Somalia. We then continue our deep dive into the Legacy/mainstream media playing CYA in the wake of Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance. The net of it is they have painted themselves into a corner with a catch-22. Either they were aiding the White House and the Democrat party in hiding Joe Biden's ever-increasing cognitive issues, making them untrustworthy, or they were so bad at their job they never caught onto it until Thursday day, making them untrustworthy. While the talk of making VP Kamala Harris the nominee, I wanted to illustrate just how little has been done to reveal her own checkered background. For instance, when she was initially running for the nomination in 2019, she told a story from her book that supposedly happened to her as a little girl. Unfortunately for her, we know she plagiarized that story from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s autobiography. Imagine what will happen is there is a serious effort to show the American people the whole of her background? In a bombshell report, a whistleblower in the FBI said they are intentionally screening out it's members if they are too conservative. It goes back to what I've been saying about President Obama's plan to hire the most radical people he could find to eventually transform our government. A NYTimes staffer on their daily podcast accidentally stumbled over the truth about the SCOTUS immunity ruling. It's actually fun to watch someone suddenly realize what the SCOTUS actually said and how it really applies. Speaking of SCOTUS, I read to you an expert from a liberal Harvard law professor, Lawrence Tribe, about then nominee, Judge Sonia Sotomayor. He said she wasn't nearly as bright as she pretends and is known for being a bully. Just a quick reminder that Barack knew he was doing a DEI hire and not a qualified one. At the National Weather Service, with teleprompters to aid, President Biden gave us not one, but two gaffs. The first was one where he seemed to indicate his policies are meant to “expand energy shortages.” Then, the teleprompter got him to read the stage directions of “Say that again.” As to character counting for President, Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) gives a wonderful example about Donald Trump. In less than 75 seconds, he illustrates how Trump deals with our enemies versus how Biden does. Finally, and off the political track, it was on this day, July 3, 1985, that first film in a masterful trilogy dropped in movie theaters. In honor of that event, I play the trailer for the Robert Zemeckis film, Back to the Future. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. Today's lessons include Paul's letter to the Romans, in which he advises the early church that life is not about taking the easy path, but meet the challenges of life. Jonathan recounts the commencement address he gave this week that congratulated a group of high schoolers, but that their learning was not over. Building character does not consist of avoiding the hard stuff, but doing the hard work of forgiving over and over those that do wrong. The ability to do this comes as a gift from God. Character is not easy, but character counts.

There are lots of moving parts to the journey but our foundation is built on the solid Rock. Keep your eyes on the prize and keep making steps forward on your spiritual journey. Last Week we looked at our main priorities. I listed a few I think are required to be near the top for everyone. They were: Here are a few non-negotiables as I understand them. God must be first. Exodus 20:2-3 – (See Luke 10 Mary and Martha Example, Jesus over serving others.) Character Counts. Romans 5:3-5 – Galatians 5:22-26 – Our Relationships Matter, A Lot. 1 Cor. 6:1-11 – Eph. 2:1-3 – I often think about relationships and how important they are by considering all the different relationship that God has given us. Relationship With God Relationship With Spouse Relationship With Children Relationship with the Church Family Relationship with the Unbeliever I asked the question a few shows ago, What will you prioritize and pursue in your life? You have a lot to think through here. What place does God have in your life? What place should he have? Work in important. How important is it? What comes before work? We will be right break after a short break but first, if you are looking for an interesting and educational podcast to listen to, try this one. Truce Podcast. Truce Podcast – 1.40 length! = 26.20 for first half PART 2 Family, health, community relationships and responsibilities, etc. How do you judge how much time to give each one of these? Ok, you will do something every day. Maybe only spend too much time scrolling through your facebook or Instagram but it's still something. The big question in life for many of us seems to be , what will I do with my time? After work and taking care of urgent needs, how do you choose what to do with your life? It's not my intent to get too wrapped up in the big questions today, Why am I here? Etc. But you can't shy away from those questions if you want to live life well. Assuming we are on the same page and you accept that God is there, He really does care for you and He really is dong something in your life as well as the world around you.. How did God make you unique? What gifts has He given and How do they fit into what God is doing in the world and in your church? Bible reading – learning Who God is and what He is doing Prayer – chewing on how that Truth relates to How HE made me Community – spending time pursuing meaningful relationships that center on Who God is and what He is doing. As you work on your top priorities in life of Pursuing God, developing the character of Christ in your life and building healthy Jesus centered relationships – you should consider what actions you will need to consistently pursue over time to do well at each of these. You want to develop a plan but you have to start with the ideas. Brainstorming how to practically live out the life God has for you. Thanks for joining me again today! Two weeks ago we looked at our purpose comparing Peter Drucker's Five Magic Questions with what the Bible tells us about our purpose. God's call for you to be an active disciple maker on His mission of reconciliation is clear. How do you respond to God's call? What does that mean that you should do with your life? Let's start to answer that question today! First a quick review since we have been away from the topic for a few weeks. Resources https://andrewsobel.com/article/peter-druckers-five-magic-questions/ ****** Peter Drucker's Five Magic Questions The management guru Peter Drucker framed his consulting advice around five critical questions. With the answers to these five questions, you could run and grow your business. Here are Drucker's five questions: 1. What is your mission? 2. Who is your customer? 3. What does your customer value? 4. What results do you seek? 5. What is your plan? The Bible doesn't tell you exactly what to do each day but God does tell you what is important to Him and what you should value in life. That is a pretty good place to start when you consider your priorities. Matt. 6:33 – Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Luke 10:38-42 – Mary and Martha – busy first or Jesus first? Matt. 22:35-40 – Deut. 6:4-7 - Romans 12:1-2 – 1 Timothy 2:1-2 – 1 Timothy 3:1-7 (to vs 13 with deacons)– Qualifications for Leaders in the church Matt. 28:18-20 – Great commission – Make disciples Two weeks ago we ended with the questions, “What does that look like in your life? How are you living out these truths?” Have you had a chance to think and pray about your answer? Let's put the question another way. What will you prioritize and pursue in your life? Where do you get your priorities? Answer that one wrong and you will never be on the right path in your life! What does the world say? Media of all kinds, TV, movies, music, SM, magazines, books, billboards, etc. What is the dominant message of the copmmercials we ingest so much of? YOU NEED MORE! As part of God'd fanily we are to pursue meaningful relationships with others. A meaningful relationship is one that is centered on Jesus and moving toward Him. So my quick summary of three top priorities. God FIRST. God FIRST in us. God FIRST in our relationships. How is this working out in your life? Next week we will look a little more at priorities and try to get practical. Thanks for joining me again today! What is God doing in your lifeno? Your Character Counts - Genesis 20:1-18Pastor Jon JacksonTurning Point Church Scottsburg, INwww.turningpointchurchscottsburg.com
We follow up last few week's ideas on significance in a quote by Oprah Winfrey with two quotes this week. One of the quotes is by Michael Josephson, the director of Character Counts, and the other quote is by author, leadership, and personal development guru, Ken Blanchard. Both quotes continue to expand on the concepts of success and significance that I have been discussing as I build the SlamDunk Significance program that I told you about a few weeks ago. Josephson and Blanchard both show us the value of seeking significance in order to bring us the success that we seek.I also talk a bit more about my SlamDunk Significance mission in this episode. If you are interested in finding out more about how you can become part of this mission to help coaches become coaches of significance in kids' lives by providing opportunities for kids to have positive athletic experiences, go to SlamDunkSignificance.com For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at scott@slamdunksuccess.com.As always, our background music is "Dance in the Sun" by Krisztian Vass.
The actions we take must reflect our positions in Christ Jesus.

He had three really significant verdicts. This guy is good. I summarize. January - Plaintiff told she didn't have breast cancer. She did. Led to 11 week treatment delay. $1.75 million in Murfreesboro March - He represented Erin Andrews in her case against Marriott regarding the peephole incident. $55,000,000. Nashville. October - Vanderbilt lost a biopsy sample. Plaintiff doesn't (and can't know) if she has cancer. $2,000,000 in Nashville. It was all emotional distress. Today we're learning why character counts, and why it gets discounted so quickly. In modern culture, character is one of the last virtues to get noticed, even though it's responsible for the rise (and fall) of many. From preachers to politicians to parents and business CEOs, character matters. Without character you won't last, but that's not to say that it's the easier path. Far from it. The road to character is an upward climb; it's the narrower path, the one less traveled. And yet, it's the surest way to longevity and, quite frankly, sanity in a world gone mad. Character is like the DNA coding of your unique soul. Your mind, will, and emotions are all responsible for contributing to and creating the components of your character. Around here, we like to say that character is who you are when no one else is looking. And while that's true, it also bleeds into everything else that you say and do, regardless of who's around. Whether you know that someone's watching you or not, your character is hard at work. Character is who you are - the real you - deep down to your core. It's arguably the most important asset in your life. It's a treasure to be guarded and a garden to be cultivated. Your character determines how you are likely to speak, act, and behave … And those words, attitudes, and actions ultimately determine the results you get out of life. Character largely determines and becomes part of your destiny. So, let's dive into why character counts, why it gets discounted, and what you can do about it! I hope you enjoy this episode! Grace and peace, Chris
