This week, Beers on the Pier is dropping more knowledge bombs about the Navy with an AO episode! We have on the show this week AO2 Armenta as he breaks down naval career. We talk about early in his career, why he joined, AO school and the line shacks days. He gives us a few collaterals and cool tid bits you could be involved with in the AO community. Ms. Recca breaks down why she became a pilot to begin with and even the process on how one goes from civilian to Naval helicopter pilot. Difference between flight officer and pilots, requirements and even how you ended up selecting or being selected for which aircraft you would be flying. We'er back with another episode, featuring another sailor on yet another episode of Beers on the Pier. This week we have HT2 Carlton Thomas. Thomas, now separated from the Navy, shares with us what it was like being a Hull Tech on a frigate. Explaining some of the schools and NEC's he picked up being an HT and what the work load is like both in port and out at sea. HT2 is one of the few sailors who said he enjoyed his time in the barracks and his time in the Navy. And we're back with another episode of Beers on the Pier! This week we brought on LS1 Prince Walker. LS1 shares with us the sense of accomplishment he felt after finally picking up first class. Walker then continues to break down his first impression of the fleet, what's float is like for an LS, and how young sailors can prepare for their first deployment. LS1 also was a well known recruiter during his time as a recruiter. Given the title Nuke Recruiter of the Year and also picking up a Navy Commendation Medal. Welcome back to week 20 of Beers on the Pier! This episode we feature RP1 Mike Sency. RP1 has been featured on several other podcast, and even did his own show for awhile, Skating in the Smoke Pit. He breaks down his days as a undes, what lead him in becoming an SH, and then how it was for him while he was TAD and in limdo. This week we welcome FC1 Wila. She goes in great depth of the life of an FC. From the school house, launching ordnance, and speaking on the difference between the different types of FC's. She tells us about some of her underways, her post visit to Israel, and even the time she was caught sleeping on watch! She shares her thoughts on what makes a good leader and gives her opinion on some of the problems advancement throughout the Navy.
This week on Beers we welcome back Angel Bueno, formerly known as AO3 and was previously featured in episode two of Beers on the Pier. We catch up with Bueno and ask him to reflect on his last few days in the Navy. He shares with us about TAPS class, getting home, getting into school and even taking a sabbatical. He reveals he did have small hints of depression from separating, but luckily he had a support system in place. We also go into some speculation on some of his future plans as he continue to experience life as a Navy Veteran.
This week we bring on our first Naval Officer on Beers on the Pier, a Naval Nurse in fact. Please welcome LT Estela Rojas, Naval Nurse Corps. LT's journey started out as a Corpsmen upon her first few years with the Navy. She then makes the leap to become a Officer and shares with us some of the various programs one could take to join the Naval Medical Field. She walks us through her enlisted days serving as a fleet marine, her hopes to become a White House Nurse, and even shares a few of her collateral duties. Want to hear whats it is like to sit in a nice swivel chair while everyone else is working on aircraft? Tune in to this week's episode of Beers on the Pier featuring AZ2 Honeyman. Fire, Fire, Fire, fire reported on episode 14 of Beers on the Pier featuring DC1 Figueroa! DC1 breaks down what is really like being a DC on a ship, and despite what your DCs are tell you on the boat, its not fighting fires. He also shares with us parts of his journey climbing the qualification ladder in engineering as he tries to leave behind oil king. Fig also breaks down what is like to be on the other side of the classroom, as an instructor. He also shares with us his experience with attending EMT school. Episode 13 is bringing back AM2 Gillespie. Although we failed to finish his interview again, I think we all can learn and laugh a little more with Gillespie. Noah mentions that he and myself started our other podcast, Dungeon Gossip, the show about us reviewing books. He then shares with us his thoughts on evals, how to get a cabinet position, how he was hoping to get kicked in the face in Hong Kong, and more. For this episode of Beers on the Pier, we meet LS1 Fuentes. Party Lobster here taught me just about everything being an aviation LS. During the show Fuentes shares with us his thoughts on being an LS, the maintenance desk in the aviation community, and deployments. He is also currently the only person who I know who is currently a part of CIP, Career Intermission Program. Most folks may not be the biggest fans of MA's in the Navy, but luckily Parlan sheds a little light on why they act the way they do. Parlan helps us explore the world of a MA by taking us through MA "A" school, we talk about some of the various billets MA's hold and a few duty stations she was a part of. Welcome Back! Glad we all made it to the New Year in one piece. Beers on the Pier is strolling right along into the new year, brining you episode 10 featuring AM2 Mills. Upon initially joining as a Rescue Swimmer, Mills had to shift gears after a knee energy and become an Air Framer. If that wasn't enough, after being CAPPED/MAPPED to Third Class, went to Captain's Mast, then was CAPPED to Second Class! From showing up the boat with the wrong sea bag to now working with AM2 Gillespie, tune in to join the roller coaster of a career AM2 is currently leading.
This week on Beers, we finish off our saga with Alex. This episode is centered around his struggles his faced after the charm of being separated from the military wore off. As I mentioned before, this show was created to help sailor, potential sailor and sailor who are considering separating from the navy. Durk shares with us the anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts he faced daily after his separation. This episode is to let other out there who are struggling with the same thoughts and problems, that you are not alone and that it is ok to get help.
This week on Beers on the Pier, we catch back up with our guest from episode four, Alex Duerksen. Part of the reason I created Beers on the Pier, was to help current sailor prepare sailors for their transition out, or at the list give them some useful information from individuals who already did separate. Durk walks us through his taps class, first week being separated and all the way up to what he is up to now a days. He also makes a really compelling argument about being a teacher. This week on Beers we meet Anthony Sapanza, also known as Spanky. Spanky has rose through the ranks from Seaman Recruit to NC1 in just under eight years. This week on Beers, we meet Alex Duerksen. Alex did a short four years with the navy but, despite only doing one enlistment, he managed to stack up more experience and awards then most. While at LS "A" school, Alex had a bit of a run in with the administration and he touches briefly on his experience trying for EOD. In this week's episode, we meet Dallis Dixon. Petty Officer Dixon career started out undesignated, like many others. Dixon first struck HT than later cross rated over to HM. He tells us firsthand the hardship that can come from working on the ship as compared to his current role in the hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Dixon also gives a little insight on the background of Medical Officers. In today's episode, we meet Angel Bueno. During Bueno's time in the navy, he rose from the ranks of undesignated seaman to an RP3 and a cross rate before finishing his naval career as an AO3. Bueno had the luxury to serve on a small boy, a carrier, and to see shore duty during his stay with the navy. In today's episode, we meet BM2 Kosakowski or Ski. Ski tells us a shit show of a story about trying to get to his first command. From there, he talks with us about his time at the Naval Academy. While at the academy, he was able to avoid getting kicked out due to a failed drug test with some help and some good luck. Next, Ski compares his life as a single sailor to the life he now leads with a young family.
