Can't find the light? There are people who want to help, including Eric Mraz, owner and operator of Cold Cactus Media Productions. Cold Cactus is producing Darkness to Light, a video series that aims to reduce the suicide rate in the Veteran community. Eric's media company is working on the first of a planned 22 episodes, connecting the series to the number of veterans who lose their battle to post traumatic stress each day. Cold Cactus started as a project in Eric's capstone class at Boise State University. To get his ambitious project off the ground, he reached out to his network, and now Eric and his team of volunteers are working on final edits of the pilot video. Eric sees parallels between the comeback stories Veterans tell in Darkness to Light and his own career. Following his own military career, during which he earned a Bronze Star, Eric notes that he had a difficult time finding his way. He had a variety of jobs and attended college, where he eventually connected with the leadership program that led him to start Cold Cactus. Now a college graduate, Eric feels he's in a place where everything is coming together. His career advice for others is to listen to what others tell you and don't be afraid of your own success. For the release date, to follow progress on the series, and learn how to support Cold Cactus, connect with Eric Mraz on LinkedIn. *** Love Shadow (Remix Safety Guide) by rocavaco (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Noncommercial Sampling Plus license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/rocavaco/52156 Ft: Loveshadow

Dealing with an early and unexpected death is so insanely difficult. Tacking on suicide makes it impossible. And that's what we deal with in the community of veterans on the upwards of 22 times a day. SFC Araujo - a titan among men, lost his battle within and took his final knee. We love you brother and we will see you on the other side of the veil.
Dogs for our brave, dfob.org, We sit down with Executive Director Christina Kimerle and talk in depth about her program. DFOB uses rescue dogs and trains them to be service dogs for our veterans. DFOB covers all costs associated with the lifetime care of the dog. What a fantastic organization.

Eric is joined by special guests Nate McDonald and Dan Maillard of Irreverent Warriors to discuss the origin and mission of Irreverent Warriors. The discussion has a few moments of raw emotion as we discuss veterans' suicide and how we've been impacted by it personally. This episode is dedicated to the memory of Jeffery SlossJeffery served under me during the PGW and was the guy that kept us all laughing when the suck was deep. We called him “Snuffy” because no matter where we were, he could sniff out a good time. He was the guy that gave me the nickname Sgt Rock because no one could get my last name right. Sgt Rock stuck and there are folks today that don’t know me by any other name.We lost touch a few years after the PGW. He went on to become an SC State Trooper while remaining in the SC NG and built a family with his wife Pamela.Jeffery committed suicide on May 27, 2004 – 5 weeks after he returned from Iraq.It doesn’t get easier to talk about, he was a great guy and it is crushing for me when it comes up. I guess it’s a good thing from the perspective that he really mattered. However, I keep feeling that I left him hanging as life got busy and we lost touch. This is who I was thinking of that led to my mini-breakdown at the being of this episode. Please visit www.irreverentwarriors.com to learn more about the mission and to support them through a donation. We have to end 22 a day and these guys are working hard to that goal. Support the show (http://www.leaderlivinglife.com)

In this episode Amy Alleman talks about the decision she and her husband Micheal B. Alleman made to join the military in the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Amy talks about why the history teacher wanted to volunteer with a pregnant wife and two small boys, and what sacrifice meant to both of them. She discusses the realities of that commitment when a solider dies in service to this country, and how her service, quite proudly, continues despite his death. Her sons, who know their father mostly through his writings and their relatives, read from their father's journals, as the entire family gives us insight into what sacrifice entails for thousands of American families.
We welcomed back Survive First Foundation speaker, Doug Monda to give us all the exciting news regarding his huge sponsorship that will assist in much needed funds towards his mission. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Podcast321)
