David Newbern was always into cars, but he wasn't always into cars on-camera. That is, until someone named Mike Finnegan moved nearby and needed shears and a finger brake. Growing up, David tagged along with his father to every car show possible, watching while his dad worked a kind of car guy magic to trade cars on the spot. They'd show up in one, and drive home in another, which happened as many as 20 times. His father's habit of swapping cars on a moment's notice gave a young gearhead practice on the idiosyncrasies of various cars and engines. Before his television career, David made a profession out of installing gates, security cameras and construction. On the side, he was always building something with a passion to get it rolling as soon as possible. After trading his ‘71 Camaro for a ‘26 Essex Coupe, the Buick nailhead began knocking as soon as he got it home. He had a 2004 LS1 on the garage floor before LS swaps were common and made it work. That old spirit of getting it running no matter what made David fit right in with the Roadkill crew. The rest, we already know. We've always been big fans of David and it was a pleasure to have him on the podcast. Follow David on Instagram @DavidNewbern Watch him on Finnegans Garage, Faster with Finnegan, Roadkill and more.

Drift Racing Global Attraction. Drift racing originated in Japan in the mid ‘90's and has taken a foothold across the globe, including the Middle East, as a popular sport competing for style, tire smoke, line and angle strategies, speed and showmanship. Think of traditional motorsports like NASCAR and NHRA similar to boxing, and drift racing very much like the transition to the more colorful UFC. Many can equip their favorite rear-wheel drive setup with an LS1 engine, grab a few sponsors and they are off and running. Noor Daoud - Palestinian Female Drift Racer Brings It. Gender equality in the Middle East has been a critical issue for many years, and the woman who have faced an abundant amount of challenges also refuse to accept limited lifestyles and conditions. Noor Daoud is from the town of Ramallah, West Bank. Deeply rooted in traditions of family roles and structure, she has never wavered from her passion and freedom of drift racing as a serious competitor. Taking Top 10 positions at many Middle Eastern Drift events like the Red Bull Car Park Drift, Noor never quits and never looks back. She is a member of the Speed Sisters, a likeminded group of women with a strong passion for racing, who pursued their passions against all odds that can be seen now on film at https://speedsisters.tv/. The Time Has Come. While Saudi Arabia has recently lifted the ban on driving for women, who at one time could not have the freedom to enjoy a drive behind the wheel of a vehicle let alone piloting the punch of a fast and furious drifting horsepower beast, we are honored and privileged to have an intimate conversation of a courageous young lady that is bringing inspiration throughout the arena of drifting motorsports and women across the globe. Tony started his car passion by contributing and participating on the LS1.com forum back in 1998. He wasn’t happy with the support of that forum and decided that he could do it better. So, he started LS1Tech.com in 2001. All the while, he was working in the Oil & Gas industry. He continued to teach himself various software systems to allow him to create websites, design graphics, and model parts. He eventually sold LS1Tech.com and started DV8 Motoring to continue to sell parts via relationships he made with the forum. His new venture is called 365 Driven and was created to help aspiring entrepreneurs and spread his wealth of knowledge. He shares a lot of content on a couple Facebook pages and just released his book called The Side Hustle Millionaire. He spent a whole year attending Toastmaster events to help him become a better public speaker. This has been extremely helpful in helping him clearly articulate information about his book and get his message across to current and potential clients.

Ahhhhh, that's the stuff. The Garage Hour goons got together with friends at Helm's Brewing and talked about what's good for your stomach: brewing beer, brands of beer, new beers being brewed, and the yummy (and not so yummy) beers on tap around town. That's not enough to satisfy the needs of our gearhead gullets, though: we have Dude Food with FNG Alex, who walks us through his pork belly sandwich recipe, which results in a near fistfight in the studio over lobster and snow crabs versus blue claw crabs. Hostus Maximus Justin Fort guides Dan Lawrence - head brewer at Helm's - as well as cohosts .45 Phil, Chef Jeff, FNG Alex and the lovely Karen (Mrs. Chef Jeff) through this episode of the Garage Hour. This one's heavy on beer, so if you want to know more about what's being brewed, how beer's made, some beer history (like short beer and table beer), hereyago. The Garage Hour also chats up/comer Helix Brewing in La Mesa, how their head brewer is hot (hey, Dan said it, Cameron), jungle juice, how to suck the sock, making a kiwi beer with puree instead of extract (and why), marzen beers and how a lager is different than an ale. On the heels of all that beer talk (or because of it), the gearhead lords of the galaxy also take apart some analysis of the new F-35 and why it can't dogfight worth a dam (and why the Tomcat and the F-16 both take its lunch money head to head), visit with that fool who bonked his LS1 buggy right through San Diego and into a jail cell, Russian spies as cohosts (Agent Aya, anyone?), Shermans versus Tigers, the Phoenix missile, and our impending Philbecue. If you'd like to listen to this episode in low-fi, search for the same show date with the "MP3" tag in the header.

Can the Garage Hour goons pull off the ultimate two-faced episode? Two great gearhead topics - road-racing with the 24 Hours of Lemons gang at Thunderhil,l and a little bit of basic "prepping" so you won't need to fight with the low-information idiots at Wal-Mart over a can of Spam - can we do it? We start with the racing - how can't we? - and the crapcan series nationally known as the 24 Hours of Lemons, and their latest rustastic assault on Thunderhill: everything from adventures in wiring, Civic fails (because of that wiring), rampant cheating and misadventure on and off-course, and how not to win. Fast Guy and sometime cohost Cram Grebneseir then regales us with tales of his plan to LS1 a 3-Series BMW (cram, indeed), which we approve of wholeheartedly. Sandwiched between tales of smoking wiring looms is an analysis of what you need to be prepared for a little bit of disaster if the low-information hordes manage to collapse society in your neighborhood - here and there - during the coming Year of the Idiot. Because you're a Garage Hour listener, we expect you've got the firearms part of the equation figured out (likely overfigured, we bet), so our focus is on the bagels, the batteries and the Band-Aids. You can handle the bullets. Cram joins Hostus Maximus Nitsuj Trof and cohosts .45 Lihp and Ekim the Kcud in-studio as they also celebrate Columbus Day, National Stare at a Hybrid Owner Like Something is Wrong with Them Month, and every other holiday that gets in their way.
This week Matt, Thad and Zack check in from the road with Rally North America. The guys meet up with Larry Kosilla in New York and try out his newly modified 964 at Monticello. Comparisons are made between the seedier parts of New York, Philadelphia and Memphis. Racial epithets are used in Ohio, a 1963 Corvette Stringray with an LS1 swap is driven and a glory hole is discovered at a rural rest stop.
With the guys from Look Up Here in-studio, SuperMeg, East County Beerlord Jeff Trevaskis and former factory test driver Justin Fort whip up a batch of gearhead-talk radio superiority on Saturday's show. You can't go wrong (well, you probably could) with a room full of punk rockers, and we pull off a show full of explosions (propane, acetlyne, Sobe and snow), desert toys (LS1, anyone?), gas prices, corporate skulduggery and beer-sipping refinement. Someone even mentions brisket. The call is also out for Sasquatch Run 3: The 'Squatchening; which is looking likely late in May, so stay tuned. jf
