Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. Quote For The Week"There's hardly anything I've ever done that's made me cringe; I've got pretty good pitch, for a start, so I'm not known for hitting bum notes. Robert Palmer, Musician NewsHello Business Souls 2 Part on Pause, Pace and Pitch Important techniques for delivering your content live, podcast or youtube Main Topic QuoteThe quote this week sums up half of this episode Pitch is important to aid understanding Pace is important because it has a direct correlation on pitch. If you are speaking too fast this directly affects your diction Summary Of Last WeekPause, pace and pitch Pause important tool to give you confidence, emphasise points, build tension, limit um's and ahs's, punctuate, listen and feedback Pace OverviewImportance Of Pace A rate of progress Important to find right pace Don't want to go too fast Don't want to go too slow Identify what the context is If rapping for example don't want to go slow If you want to make a talk interesting don't want to go too slow ContextIf reading something you want to be consistent If talking about something want to be engaging so might want to vary the pace. E.g. use pace to your advantage. Add drama by starting to tell a story then gradually getting more into a frenzy. Make a point can slow down and combine with pauses. You need to speak slower than you think Pitch OverviewThe tone of your voice Avoid monotonous tone Try not to let pitch fall towards end of sentances use pitch for emphasis Avoid monotonous toneThis occurs when we are not concentrating on what we are doing and when we are scared Don't vary pitch at all Very boring to listen to Be prepared for your audience to go to sleep Normal SentencesKeep pitch up right to the end Don't let pitch fall down Think about happy thoughts When we are happy and positive then our pitch stays up Now think about when you are sad or scared What happens to your pitch You may not even be able to get your words out Otherwise you may start ok but the end of your sentance will tail off Pitch for EmphasisWhen you are in a market how to traders attract your attention. They shout What happens if your in immediate danger the pitch and tone goes up and gets loud Sometimes that is important to get someones attention Use sparingly What happens when you whisper. Everyone has to listen that bit harder This can be used to highlight an important bit of your talk You can purposely drop the end of the sentence so no one can hear. To make a point Bringing it all togetherPause, pace and pitch when used together can make a massive difference Pause can give you a chance to think about what it is you want to say Pace has to be used for the context you are given Pitch can be used to emphasise and to make sure that your words can be understood Lets practiceFind a poem to read. Work out where you need to alter your pace and pitch. Work out if there are any places that you should naturally pause Record two versions First version read the poem out and make no changes and try and make it as monotone as possible Second version read out the poem The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful pea-green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five-pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, "O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are, You are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!" SummaryGo away and think about your pauses Think about your pace and ensuring that it
Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. Quote For The Week"Life doesn't come with a REWIND, FAST FORWARD or PAUSE BUTTON. Once it starts it PLAYS until it ends or until you press STOP.” Sonya Parker, Author NewsHello Business Souls 2 Part on Pause, Pace and Pitch Important techniques for delivering your content live, podcast or youtube Main Topic QuoteHard when you are speaking especially live Panic when you start See people walk off stage because can't cope Number of strategies to make you more confident Pause, Pace and PitchTaught by my grandmother Each element gives you confidence and makes your delivery much smoother Important to practice. The more you do the better you become. This process is all about how you deliver your speech With podcasting / YouTube you can always just do another take If you are live on Facebook / Instagram / YouTube / Twitch you cannot do another version so you need to think carefully Pause - this is not to be muddled with pace which we will briefly discuss here which is how fast you speak. Pause - gives you confidence used in the correct way, limits you um's and ah's and can be used for dramatic effect. Pace - how quickly you deliver your content. Tendency to deliver quickly when nervous or pause because cannot get the words out Pitch - the way that you speak. So we don't want a monotoned voice but we also don't want to speak talking into your hands. There are various techniques to ensure that you can speak with confidence. This week we are going to to discuss Pause Next week we will discuss Pace and Pitch PauseBuild Tension You see it all the time programmes to build tension We will be back after the break And the winner is….. Tension is created by pausing Careful not to use too much Very effective Thinking Time It is important to think about what you are going to say. Pausing helps because you can reflect on what you think and then say something Unnecessary Um's and Ah's We are prone to make a noise to let someone know that we are thinking In everyday conversation that is ok and sometimes when being interviewed. Also a confidence thing. We um and ah to make out that we do nknow what we are talking about but have not got there yet. Annoying when editing Confidence It is the day of my fathers funeral. The time of the day has come where I have to speak I must speak well to honour my father Over 100 eyes are looking at me My confidence boost Look round everyone and catch their attention Deep breath in Speak Massive confidence booster Listen You can't listen and speak Pause whilst someone is talking to you Listen to what they have to say Act on what they tell you Punctuate Pause a little after each sentance This will punctuate what you have to say Feedback Pause to get feedback If live audience do you want them to clap, boo, jeer or ask questions for example Emphasis If you are making a particularly strong point Say what you want to say and wait till people think you have stopped by pausing Then say your next important point Sometime the point is so important you may want to highlight it and then repeat the point again SummaryPause, pace and pitch Pause important tool to give you confidence, emphasise points, build tension, limit um's and ahs's, punctuate, listen and feedback Get In TouchI would love you to get in touch. Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. Sorry I am a couple of minutes over this week again !!! This episode explores looking into change. Pivoting your business and your life Quote For The Week Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek - Barrack Obama NewsThe website is progressing and then new artwork and total re-brand Firing myself up for being on YouTube and on podcast Start of the changes Main Topic Change US Election - Barrack Obama utilised slogan Change with subtitle We can believe in Simple words yet huge meaning Social media very good at influencing Podcasts are very good at influencing YouTube very good TV & Radio On Line Business On Line got to have social proof or expert status either through testimonials, social proof or via media My current business based on me knowing what I do and being very capable but no social proof plus no way of getting it because of current situation Need change Move to podcasting and social media focus can be backed up. Look at my gin account on Instagram. On 1st May I had 26 followers. Now on 16th July I have 434. Why such as significant increase ? Believe in it Passionate Easy to sell because not selling Being different with podcast Not asking for anything but delivering stuff Why is this relevant to you ? Change is coming your way You need to innovate to survive Initial reaction is to make money first e.g. put prices up with an already price sensitive customer base Give something back first Podcast / YouTube / Content marketing activity / Free advice etc Restaurant Example Owning a restaurant is not fun especially if there is a second wave like many parts of America at the moment and I think many parts of the UK Takeaway more future proof ? This episode explores the podcasts change of direction Quote For The Week Be the change that you wish to see in the world - Mahatma Gandhi NewsIn the news there is a lot of talk of the recession and a lot of talk of what this means. There is a lot of worried people including me. My business has just about stopped as a business project coach so I am moving towards podcasting. Main Topic Current and New Clients Business Souls is going to concentrate on how to build up your existing pool of clients and how to also augment to that pool Change of Focus Instead of concentrating on a business topic we are going to talk about communication and the importance of getting your voice out there. To that end the podcast is going to have a focus on launching your business with content marketing rather than traditional sales marketing. It will be heavily biased towards podcasting as this is what I know but I am intending moving to YouTube as well. Conform To The Maxims At The End Of Each Show You not a number I want you to be able to run your business and not beholden to others and certainly not feel your like a number. To make you be true to yourself I will also be covering some techniques that I have perfected over the last few years. Be unique By all means look at what is available in your industry but don't copy lock, stock and barrel other ideas. Besides being plagiarism it does not make unique. You need to find your own unique spin. I am going to help you find your happy related to this Be you Find your brand like I have It does not always have to have your name on it You can still be a Youpreneur Be amazing To be successful you need engagement and you have to be fully immersed in what you are doing. In short you have to be amazing and want to serve The pandemic is no excuse for poor service Be a business soul To be a business soul you need to join and engage with the community. Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. Sorry I am a couple of minutes over this week again !!! This episode explores 5 excuses for poor service. in 2020. Quote For The Week Make a customer, not a sale. - Katherine Barchetti, Retailer from Pittburgh NewsOnly publishing once per week on Friday after this Friday's episode This Friday we are looking into finding permission to do what you want Main Topic Company Revenue and My Experience With Boots The Chemist All companies thinking about making money to keep themselves afloat Thinking about how to streamline Need customers but that does not seem to matter about customer service I went out of hours to Boots The Chemist in Rustington on South coast last week after checking on line to confirm they were open until 17:30 Got there at 17:19 after checking On the door outside that it was open until 17:30 Net result I bought my product elsewhere Companies cannot afford to do this 5. Put up your prices Seen many examples on line. One that springs to mind is Vodafone who put up their prices moments after we entered lockdown Think it was an agreed price increase just very poorly timed and picked up by https://www.chrisducker.com (Chris Ducker) on 2nd April Understand you may need to adjust your prices but do it slowly and think about timing 4. Change what you offer but don't tell your customers Aldi in the UK are great at doing this You don't mind because they are a discount retailer A lot of companies such as insurers seems to change their terms when it came to holidays and allowing people to get their money back Depending on what you offer need to think very carefully about adjusting your offer. 3. Get your customer order wrong Don't deliver what you promised and get it wrong Have an arduous process to resolve the issue and make the customer feel as though they were in the wrong 2. Don't Refund your Customers Keep your customers money to keep your business afloat. Cite issues with staff shortages and give long time to return money 1. Don't communicate Don't send any messages to your customers Put messages on your website indicating no response Pack up your business. Hope your customers won't come back I know you are a business soul so I know you will not have done this Capitalise on this and make sure that you are better than your competition Summary Put up your prices if you absolutely have to but consider very carefully the timing of it. If you possibly can try and find new and innovative techniques to reduce prices. Has home working been successful ? Could you shut part of the office to save money ? Add to what you offer and tell your customers. If you have to change your hours or operation times tell customers in plenty of time Ordering systems. Make sure that your ordering systems are more than correct. Add in some checking where you can If a customer needs to be refunded or they have a faulty product err on the side of the customer and send them new product or refund ASAP. Communicate, communicate, communicate with your customers and over communicate. Wins Let me know your wins. Get in touch I would love you to get in touch. Quote for the week Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes... but no plans. - Peter Drucker News Mini Series on Simple Launch Plan - part 4 /6 Main Topic Most projects fail when tasks are not executed for some reasonLaunch resources are constrained - other commitments / cost saving Run out of time - project runs out of time Costing too much Important to get commitment from project team and from organisation Deadlines are the best way to cement this commitment In order to ensure maximum commitment you divide the launch into a number of smaller mini launches with fixed dates and fixed tasks There are two types:-Stroll Dash StrollGenerally 2 -4 weeks in duration At the beginning and end of the launch when the timeline is not as critical DashGenerally 1 - 2 weeks in duration In the middle of most launches when the timeline and achieving tasks is critical Sometimes there are issues which affect your launch date such as the conference you are running has to delay by two weeks because the hotel cancels at the last minute If this happens then you have to re-configure your launch and spend a week or two moving delegates to the new date After each stroll or dash review to see what could have gone better and what has worked well Next week you will go into how to add tasks to dashes and strolls as well as how to monitor the project. Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. This episode explores The Simple Launch Plan Quote for the week By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. - Benjamin Franklin News No news this week Main Topic Last episode we discovered the top 10 reason to launch failures Need to plan Planning does not need to be boring Important entrepreneurs can plan but in own way Simple launch plan starts with what you knowDesired outcome Launch date Imagine a building with a stone roof with a pedestal (triangular piece at the front of the roof). On the pedestal you right your desired outcome and launch date. This roof is supported by stone columns. Columns can also be called pillars. Define pillarsCould be the promotion you do If you are launching an online course it could be the content creation It could be finance Pillars run over the project length Once you have your pillars then you need to create all the tasks required to complete that pillar. You repeat this for each pillar Work out from today to the launch date which periods are intensive and which are not These are mini launches and are two different typesFor intensive periods your mini launch is a dash and normally lasts 1-2 weeks For non-intensive periods your mini launch is a stroll and normally lasts 2-4 weeks Take the tasks from the pillars and assign these to a mini launch MonitoringUse DIP (Daily Inspirational call) defined in Episode 2 Optionally after each stroll or dash have a feedback meeting where you work out what went well and what did not go so well. Welcome Welcome to the Business Souls podcast which helps you to maximise your magnificence by exploring one topic each week for 10 minutes. This episode introduces a simple practice, the DIP (Daily Inspirational Progress) call to inspire communication and give you as a business leader an early warning of roadblocks which are preventing members of your team from working. Quote for the week The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place - George Bernard Shaw Main Topic Generally we don't have daily calls unless a project is either getting very near completion or there is a client problem which has meant it is vital The problem with daily calls of this nature is that they get longer and longer The DIP call allows each team member 2 minutes to discuss:-What they did yesterday What they are going to do today Roadblocks they are facing Giving a heads up to the next person who they are going to hand off that they are nearly finished It is important to be strict on the time Should there need to be a longer discussion this should happen but away from the DIP call. You may want to add 5 minutes at the beginning of the call to make it a bit more social and allow those running slightly late to joint the call.
