Overdrive: From Smart Crossings to Smarter Cars — AI, CES Innovations and the Soul of Driving Short Summary In this episode of Overdrive, David Brown and Paul Murrell explore how artificial intelligence is changing pedestrian safety, urban mobility, and vehicle technologies. From AI-powered pedestrian crossings in Ohio to inclusive transport innovations at CES 2026, they reflect on the evolving relationship between humans and machines. They also share motoring stories, review the GWM Haval H7, and reminisce about the good (and bad) old days of car parks, rallies, and real driver training. Feature Stories Artificial Intelligence Improving Pedestrian Safety David Brown and Paul Murrell open the program with a discussion about how artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape everyday road infrastructure. A notable example is an AI-enabled pedestrian crossing system trialled in Dublin, Ohio. Known as the Securus soffit system, it uses sensors and adaptive lighting to detect pedestrians approaching a crossing and then illuminates the area to alert drivers. When no one is present, the lights dim to reduce light pollution and energy use. Beyond immediate safety benefits, the system gathers data on pedestrian movements that can help planners better understand how people use roads and crossings. David and Paul see this as an example of technology quietly improving safety without relying solely on driver behaviour. They also refer to similar monitoring technology used in coastal New South Wales to detect if fishermen are swept from rocks, illustrating how sensor systems can support safety in many environments. Mobility Innovation at CES 2026 The conversation moves to the CES 2026 technology expo, where mobility and transport solutions played a larger role than traditional consumer gadgets. David highlights how the event showcased innovations designed to improve accessibility and integrate different transport modes. Examples included AI-assisted wheelchairs, advanced e-bike systems and digital platforms designed to better link public transport with private mobility options. These developments emphasise “first-mile and last-mile” transport solutions, helping people reach public transport more easily. Paul and David welcome this focus on inclusivity but note that technology alone cannot fix poorly designed transport systems. Without coordination between planners, engineers and policymakers, even the best innovations risk becoming isolated solutions rather than part of a coherent mobility network. Engineering, Regulation and Cultural Perspectives The hosts also reflect on an idea raised in Dan Wang's book Breakneck, which suggests that China's rapid infrastructure development is partly driven by a culture dominated by engineers, while the United States is more influenced by legal and regulatory structures. While acknowledging that strong regulatory frameworks can slow projects, David and Paul argue that purely technocratic decision-making can ignore social consequences. They point to examples such as controversial policies in China that demonstrate the risks of pursuing efficiency without broader societal consideration. Their conclusion is that successful transport development requires a balance between engineering ambition and thoughtful governance. Recognising Contributions to Transport and Heritage The program pauses to recognise individuals who have made meaningful contributions to transport and community life. The late Brian Willoughby is remembered for helping preserve Rouse Hill House in Sydney's west by influencing road planning decisions in the 1990s. His work demonstrated that determined individuals within government can shape infrastructure decisions in ways that protect cultural heritage. Another acknowledgement goes to Rob McInerney, appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his leadership in the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). Through data-driven road safety strategies, iRAP helps governments prioritise investments that reduce road trauma and improve infrastructure design worldwide. Driving Skills and the Changing Culture of Motoring David and Paul then reflect on the evolution of driving skills. Recalling older cars and rally driving experiences, they note how earlier vehicles demanded far more driver involvement, often with poor lighting, heavy steering and limited braking performance. These stories lead to a critique of modern driver training, which they believe often lacks practical scenario-based learning. Skills such as handling a skid, recovering from dropping a wheel off the road or performing emergency braking are rarely taught in depth. While modern driver-assistance systems improve safety, the hosts argue that awareness, judgement and real experience remain vital. Road Test: GWM Haval H7 Hybrid The episode concludes with a review of the GWM Haval H7 Hybrid, a mid-size SUV priced at around $47,000 drive-away. Positioned as a more premium alternative to the Haval H6, the H7 features a refined interior, improved styling and hybrid efficiency. Although its rugged design suggests off-road capability, the vehicle is front-wheel drive only. Despite this limitation, David and Paul find the car comfortable, well equipped and competitively priced. Thoughtful climate controls, a practical layout and a smooth hybrid drivetrain contribute to a strong overall impression. As Chinese manufacturers continue to expand their presence in Australia, vehicles like the Haval H7 demonstrate how competitive pricing and improved quality are reshaping the local automotive market.

Public space and protest power explores how protest movements do more than express political demands; they actively reshape the city itself. Through the ongoing student protests in Serbia, the series explores how public spacebecomes a site of visibility, conflict, solidarity, and collective identity. Beginning with the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse and the institutional silence that followed, the podcast examines how grief turned intomobilization, and how student-led organizing transformed protest into a recurring urban rhythm. Across both episodes, protest is approached as an urban practice: something that reorganizes streets and squares, redefines everydayroutines, and turns ordinary infrastructure into political terrain. By connecting political experience to spatial experience, Public space and protest power shows how democracy is not only debated. It is performed, negotiated, and made visible through the urban space. From Collapse to Collective: Student Protest in Serbia begins in Novi Sad, where the sudden collapse of a recently renovated railway station canopy turns a normal morning into a moment of collective shock. As accountability fails to arrive and justice remains suspended, the tragedy becomes more than an accident - it becomes a symbol of institutional breakdown. From this rupture, a student-led protest movement emerges, expanding across universities and cities and transforming grief into organization. The episode follows how students, supported by professors and structured through direct democratic plenums, became central actors in demanding transparency, responsibility, and the ruleof law. Positioned within both Serbia's political climate and the longer global history of student movements, the episode asks why students so often become catalysts for change, and why their protests matter not only politically, but urbanistically as well. It raises an important question:  what happens when protest becomes part of the city's fabric?

Question from Anonymous Coward from GA If reasonable fear of grave bodily harm justifies self defence, and whistles and bullhorns cause permanent hearing damage, why aren't we shooting protesters? Question from Dusky from Florida Dear WLS, We are seeing quite a bit of piston driven rifle systems, mainly AR (cause fuck everything else) hit not only the market but the front lines and the streets in some cases as it seems to be being issued more often. I understand the basic concept of the piston driven rifle; doesn't dump trash and heat into the bolt so much as well as other things… (maybe Jeremy can even explain some of the differences of some of the different piston systems, if we're lucky enough for him to oblige us in between burps and yawns and hitting his mic if he'snot playing clash of clans [love you Jerombe]) So why though? Probably has a lot to do with the previously stated reason, as well as running suppressors being common SOP for many, which brings up my question – Will we ever see more piston systems than DI? Do you think there will be a point where that happens, is there that much of an advantage for that to be a likely scenario? Thank you for your time. Dusky. Some notes. What does the cast think could have happened if the 70s went X's way instead of MLK's? What would both say about how things are now? Episode 171 centers on Elimination Chamber fallout and the way one night in Chicago shifted the structure of WrestleMania 42. Randy Orton outlasted Cody Rhodes, Logan Paul, Trick Williams, LA Knight, and Je'Von Evans to secure a WWE Championship match on the biggest stage, but the path there was defined by interference rather than endurance. Logan Paul eliminated three competitors before Seth Rollins returned through an open Chamber door and attacked him, immediately destabilizing the match. That same opening allowed Drew McIntyre to enter and strike Rhodes with the WWE Championship. Orton dropped McIntyre with an RKO, Rhodes answered with Cross Rhodes, and as Rhodes stood, Orton delivered a second RKO to win. In the aftermath, Nick Aldis announced McIntyre will defend the WWE Championship against Rhodes on SmackDown, leaving Orton locked in for WrestleMania while Rhodes remains in pursuit and Rollins reenters the equation. The women's Chamber provided clearer direction. Rhea Ripley defeated Tiffany Stratton, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, Kiana James, and Alexa Bliss to earn her WrestleMania match against Jade Cargill. Rodriguez created chaos with a double elimination, Asuka misted Bliss before being eliminated, and Ripley closed with the Riptide to formalize a high level collision at WrestleMania. AJ Lee added another headline by submitting Becky Lynch to win the Women's Intercontinental Championship, her first singles title victory in over a decade, while CM Punk retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Bálor after surviving sustained rib targeting and finishing with the GTS in his hometown. The long teased mystery crate revealed Danhausen, drawing a mixed reaction and existing more as spectacle than structural shift on the road to WrestleMania. Outside the Chamber, AJ Styles formally confirmed his in ring retirement. He will remain with WWE in a non wrestling capacity and enter the 2026 Hall of Fame, closing the door on speculation about a final run elsewhere. We also examine the newly announced Android Inoki project targeting 2027, which begins with an AI model trained on Antonio Inoki's speech patterns and philosophy before integration into a humanoid form. Positioned as legacy preservation, it raises broader questions about likeness rights, commercialization, and how wrestling history will intersect with artificial intelligence moving forward. From a business standpoint, TKO disclosed that WWE generated 1.709 billion dollars in revenue for 2025. The 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh produced 55 million dollars, and WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia is projected to exceed 100 million. WrestleMania 42 will follow a hybrid distribution model, beginning on ESPN and ESPN2 before shifting to ESPN Unlimited domestically and Netflix internationally, reflecting WWE's continued evolution in broadcast and streaming strategy. Across weekly programming, championships changed hands on SmackDown and NXT, Bronson Reed suffered a distal biceps tear that forces creative adjustments, and AEW builds toward Revolution under schedule compression with MJF set to defend the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page in a Texas Death Match with permanent stakes language attached. Internationally, NJPW crowned new STRONG and Television champions, CMLL delivered a high stakes hair match at Arena México, and Mauro Ranallo joins commentary for Global Wars Canada. Episode 171 connects creative fallout, retirement finality, AI experimentation, revenue transparency, and shifting broadcast strategy as WrestleMania season accelerates. Listen now.

Known for tackling invasive reptiles, trapper Mike Kimmel — also called the Python Cowboy — describes the Nile monitor as “like a python mixed with an iguana.” They're powerful, intelligent predators, similar to a smaller Komodo dragon. On Florida's west coast, especially in Cape Coral, biologists have been battling the species for nearly 20 years. Hundreds have been trapped, but pockets remain. That's concerning because Cape Coral is also home to Florida's largest population of the threatened Burrowing owl, which nests in the ground — making it vulnerable to predators like the Nile monitor. These lizards are carnivores. They eat fish, frogs, birds, eggs, small mammals — even young crocodiles — and have been known to attack chickens and small pets. They can grow up to 6.5 feet long, weigh nearly 20 pounds, run up to 18 miles per hour, and swim underwater for nearly an hour. Their ability to travel along canals and waterways has helped them spread. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is actively removing Nile monitors and urges residents to report any sightings. Wildlife officials warn: this is one invasive species South Florida can't afford to ignore. In this episode of The Ross Simmonds Show, Ross breaks down the so-called “SaaSpocalypse” after $1 trillion in SaaS market cap vanished in a single week. While headlines scream that “AI will replace SaaS,” Ross argues the reality is far more nuanced. He introduces a three-part framework ; Exposed, Embedded, Evolved , and outlines the strategic shifts founders and marketers must make to survive and compound in the age of AI agents. Key Takeaways and Insights: 1. The $1 Trillion Wake-Up Call -SaaS stocks were crushed in early 2026, triggering fear across markets. -AI agents, LLM advancements, and disappointing earnings accelerated the correction. -The dominant narrative says AI will replace SaaS , but the situation is more complex. -Market fear is loud. Structural change is quieter, but very real. 2.AI Agents, Vibe Coding & the Death of Per-Seat Pricing? -AI agents interacting directly with APIs challenge traditional SaaS interfaces. -“Vibe coding” demonstrates how quickly software can now be replicated. -Per-seat pricing models are under pressure as automation scales output. -The interface is shifting from dashboards to conversations. 3.The Data Reality Most People Ignore -Global SaaS spending is projected to grow from $318B (2025) to $500B+ (2028). -Enterprise contracts and deep dependencies don't disappear overnight. -Pricing models may change. Market leaders may change. -Software demand isn't vanishing, it's evolving. 4.The Extinction Stack: Exposed, Embedded, Evolved -SaaS companies fall into three survival tiers. -Not all SaaS companies face equal risk. -Your future depends on depth of integration and data moat. -Operators must identify where they sit, now. 5.Type 1: The Exposed -Horizontal point solutions with weak moats and low switching costs. -Easily replicated with AI tools in days or weeks. -Rely on habit rather than proprietary advantage. -Most vulnerable to margin compression and churn. 6.Type 2: The Embedded -Deeply integrated systems of record inside enterprises. -Painful and complex to replace due to migration risk. -The risk isn't extinction ,it's interface disruption. -Must become AI-first before agents abstract them away. 7. Type 3: The Evolved -AI-native or aggressively AI-integrated platforms. -Built on proprietary data, regulatory moats, and deep user memory. -AI increases the value of their data advantage. -Positioned not just to survive, but accelerate. 8.Distribution Is the New Defensive Moat -AI can replicate features. It cannot replicate trust. -Brand equity, audience relationships, and distribution compound. -As product development gets cheaper, distribution becomes the advantage. -This is the moment to double down on quality and amplification. 9.From Time-Based to Outcome-Based Thinking -Per-seat and time-based pricing models face structural pressure. -The future favors outcome-driven pricing and accountability. -Buyers will demand measurable impact, not access. -Service businesses must shift from hours sold to results delivered. 10. Intentional AI vs Fear-Based AI -Two types of teams are emerging: intentional adopters and reactive adopters. -AI without process creates noise, not leverage. -10,000 mediocre AI assets won't move the needle. -10 strategic, AI-enabled assets can change a business trajectory. —

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

This recording was originally broadcast in 1963, in the first year of Taiwan's first terrestrial TV station, the Taiwan Broadcasting Company. "Look me in the eye" takes a short sequence of a mountain folk song sung by a women's chorus, from the original 30-minute recording. I layered sound in GarageBand, selecting and editing archival material, contemporary field recordings, overheard dialogue and digital loops, to build aural glimpses of cultural, temporal, and geographic landscapes. By positioning the mountain folk song in dialogue with a recording of a metro train in a Tokyo tunnel, I form a sonic relationship between the mountain above, the underground below, and the distant flatland of my Newhaven studio from which the piece is composed. The folk song functions as both voice and landscape, carrying the acoustic imprint of elevation and openness (shaped by geography rather than infrastructure), of a community embedded in place, where sound travels across valley and mountain, retaining its sense of distance and air, pointing toward cultural memory rooted in the land. In contrast, the Tokyo metro recording introduces a dense, enclosed soundscape. The arrival and departure of a train, with its mechanical rhythm and reverberant tunnel, defines movement, efficiency, and compression. This sound carries additional historical weight: Japan occupied Taiwan from 1895 until the end of the Second World War, leaving lasting marks on its infrastructure, education, and cultural systems. The presence of contemporary Japanese urban sound alongside Taiwanese traditional song resonates not only as a meeting of modern and pre-modern space, but as an echo of shared, asymmetrical history. As sound worlds overlap, they form a layered sonic landscape. The intermittent warmth and discomfort of a questioning voice gets lost beneath the noise of a train, receding and submerged beneath the city. This shifting balance reflects a complex negotiation between tradition, modernisation, and historical memory, echoing the cultural tensions explored by post-war experimental art movements and ideas of Modernism.Yet, a third landscape underlies "Look me in the eye": the lands of the Western world, from which I compose and listen. Positioned beyond both mountain and subway, I observe, engaging with unfamiliar environments through recordings, digital tools, and historical distance. This perspective acknowledges the role of translation, power, and interpretation."Look me in the eye" presents landscape as something heard rather than seen. By moving between mountain, underground, and flatland perspectives, the piece reflects on how sound carries history, place, and identity across time, distance, and cultural boundaries. The folk song becomes less a fixed artifact and more a mutable terrain, shaped by time, technology, and reinterpretation.Regional music of the Republic of China (Taiwan) reimagined by Rachael Adams.———Part of the project A Century of Sounds, reimagining 100 sounds covering 100 years from the collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford. What do you do when the villain is gone, but his evil plan is still in motion? In Esther chapter 8 Haman is dead, but his genocidal edict is sealed by Persian law and cannot be changed. Esther, Mordecai, and every Jew across 127 provinces are marked for death. In this episode, we uncover the "great reversal" as Mordecai moves from sackcloth to the King's signet ring. Then Esther, the master of diplomacy, approaches King Xerxes a second time to plead for the lives of her people. Through divine providence, a new decree transforms the Jews' death sentence into a declaration of defense.Episode Highlights:From condemned to crowned: How Mordecai received Haman's estate, authority, and the King's signet ring. The legal loophole: Why the King couldn't "cancel" the law and how Mordecai's counter-decree legalized a war for survival.A pattern of intercession emerges: Moses, David, and Esther each risked their lives pleading for God's people, pointing us toward Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection offer eternal intercession for each of us todayApplicable themes:This episode reveals powerful truths about God's power and our response to His calling. How Heka Global positioned web intelligence as a fourth fraud detection layer to avoid vendor comparison | Idan Bar Dov

Category Visionaries

Identity fraud spiked 148% in 2025 as AI democratized identity fabrication. Financial institutions now face a fundamental question: Are you dealing with a real human? Heka Global is addressing this with web intelligence—analyzing digital footprints like connected applications rather than traditional signals. In this episode of BUILDERS, I sat down with Idan Bar Dov, Co-Founder & CEO of Heka Global, to explore how his company created a fourth layer in the anti-fraud stack and why legacy identity verification systems are becoming liabilities rather than assets. Topics Discussed:  The emergence of "fraud as a service" and why consumer-facing attacks replaced traditional enterprise breaches  How web intelligence works: validating identity through connected applications and digital footprints  The anti-fraud tech stack: credit bureaus, biometrics, transaction analytics, and web intelligence as distinct layers  Why heads of fraud expand budgets rather than replace vendors, and what causes solutions to get kicked out  The partnership sales model: navigating vendor management complexity and red tape in financial institutions  Why 10-person dinners and fraud simulations outperform traditional enterprise marketing  How Barclays and Cornerback backing solved the chicken-and-egg problem for a data product  Why specific fraud prevention messaging (account takeover, synthetic identities) beat investor credibility GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Target ICP based on liability exposure, not just industry fit: Heka narrowed beyond "financial institutions" to lenders who bear immediate losses from fraud—companies like LendingPoint, Avant, and Upstart. These buyers feel the pain acutely versus institutions with reimbursement terms who can deflect liability. Idan's insight: "We need the client to feel the pain just as much as we see it. That means we want them to see the liability." Map your ICP not just by vertical or size, but by who internalizes the economic impact of the problem you solve. Frame your product as a new stack layer, not a competitive replacement: Heka positioned web intelligence as the fourth distinct layer after credit bureaus, biometrics, and transaction analytics. This became their second pitch deck slide, showing logos of each category. The result: buyers stopped comparing Heka to existing vendors and started evaluating complementary value. When entering mature markets, resist the urge to claim you're "better than X"—instead, define where you fit in the existing architecture and why that layer didn't exist before. Abandon spray-and-pray for sub-1,000 TAM markets: Heka tested Lemlist flows with targeted LLM personalization and saw zero pipeline from it. Idan's take: "When you're selling to maybe a thousand financial institutions, that's it. You can be super specific when you target them." For enterprise plays with small addressable markets, allocate zero budget to automated outbound. Focus entirely on warm introductions, relationship nurturing, and becoming known to every relevant buyer through content and community. Leverage investor networks to break data product cold-starts: Data products face a critical barrier—you need customer data to prove value, but need proven value to get customers. Heka solved this by bringing on Barclays and Cornerback as investors who vouched for the team's capability to "do magic and create a new layer." Their backing convinced risk-averse financial institutions to pilot. If building a product requiring customer data for training or validation, prioritize strategic investors who can credibly de-risk early adoption for target buyers. Build trust through teaching, not pitching: Heka hosts dinners and fraud incident simulations with ~10 heads of fraud per session. Critical detail: they never pitch Heka in these forums. Idan explained the approach focuses on "building a community around Heka and how people engage with your product and you being a thought leader while listening." In high-trust categories, educational forums where you facilitate peer learning without selling create stronger pipeline than direct pitching. Structure partnerships with active enablement and incentive alignment: Idan's key lesson: "Partnerships are not synonymous to distribution channels." Heka requires partner sales teams to join early customer conversations to learn the pitch, provides detailed API and output training, and ensures partners get extra compensation for selling non-core products. Without this, partners lack motivation to prioritize your solution. Structure partnerships as true collaborations requiring ongoing enablement investment, not passive referral channels. A/B test credibility signals versus technical specificity: Idan assumed messaging around Barclays backing would crush, while specific fraud prevention content (account takeover, synthetic identity detection) was an afterthought. The data showed 10x better response to technical specificity. The lesson: sophisticated buyers in technical categories respond to precise problem-solving over brand credibility. Test whether your audience values "who backs us" or "exactly what we do" before defaulting to investor logos and validation. //  Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER…MORE VINTAGE BANTER BETWEEN THE HOST AND NASIR…THIS WEEKS SPECIAL GUEST: OLIVIER PANIS! Olivier Panis, originally from Oullins, Lyon, is a former French Formula One driver. Early in his career, Panis began with karting, progressing through several junior series before moving up to the French Formula 3 series. By 1990, he secured 4th place in the championship and achieved runner-up status the following year. After karting, Panis competed in two seasons of F3000. His initial season involved challenges with the Apamotox team's stubborn Lola car, while the second season saw him racing for the highly viewed DAMS Equipe team. His perseverance paid off when he was crowned champion, setting the stage for his entry into Formula 1 with Ligier. At 27, Panis joined the French-based Ligier F1 team in 1994. He secured a surprise second-place finish at Hockenheim that season, ending the season 11th overall in the Drivers' Championship. He continued to impress, securing another unexpected second place at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix, despite trailing two laps behind the leader, and finished 8th in the championship. Panis's most astonishing triumph came at the 1996 Monaco Grand Prix, where he drove his way to victory in treacherously wet conditions. It marked Ligier's first win in 15 years—their last—and was the first French victory in a French car at Monaco in 66 years. However, apart from this win, Panis failed to finish higher than fifth for the remainder of the season. In 1997, racing for Prost, who had bought Ligier, Panis showed promise, placing third in the championship standings after six races. Unfortunately, a crash in Canada broke his leg, sidelining him for eight races. He returned for the season's last three races and finished ninth in the championship. The 1998 season was less successful for Panis, who struggled to score points under Prost's management. He earned only a single point across the following season, leading to the end of his relationship with the team. Panis then considered an offer from Williams but opted to test for McLaren instead, which kept his presence in the paddock despite a full-time drive. He joined BAR in 2001, although the team didn't meet his expectations, finishing 14th for two consecutive seasons. In 2003, Panis moved to the new Toyota team to provide his experience and mentor his teammate, Cristiano da Matta. Although he improved in qualifying, his overall results mirrored his previous seasons, finishing 14th once again. Panis continued with Toyota through 2004, his tenth year in Formula One. He announced his retirement in October of that year, effective after the 2004 Japanese Grand Prix. He stayed with Toyota as a test driver through 2005 and 2006, ending his F1 career at age 37, with five podiums and 76 career points from 157 starts. SEBRING, Fla. (Feb. 5, 2026) – Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Pistons & Props Presented by the Alan Jay Automotive Network kicks-off the 2026 HSR racing season next weekend at Sebring International Raceway, Feb. 13-15. The must-attend event once again celebrates Sebring's rich sports car racing heritage and notable aviation history with four days of on-track action and an airplane "fly-in" of retro civilian and military aircraft from the World War II era and last half century. HSR Pistons & Props Presented by the Alan Jay Automotive Network honors the legendary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring sports car race, which runs for the 74th time March 21, and Sebring International Raceway's patriotic aviation history. Hendricks Field, on which Sebring International Raceway stands, was built as a United States Army Air Forces training base during World War II. One plane scheduled to appear is a Beechcraft T-34 Mentor owned and piloted by Bob Hahnemann, who could be the first HSR Pistons & Props participant to take part in both the winged and four-wheel activity. An accomplished pilot and sports car racing competitor, Hahnemann is listed as a co-driver with his son, Matt Hahnemann, in Friday afternoon's B.R.M Chronographes Legacy Enduro in their 2007 No. 111 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car. Just after the race, Bob will taxi from the adjacent Sebring Regional Airport down the raceway's Ulmann Straight (backstretch) in the T-34, joining a quality lineup of other must-see airplanes and accomplished pilots in a parade to the paddock. Positioned inside the Sebring paddock, the planes will be on display and available for viewing from Friday at 4:30 p.m. through late morning on Sunday. The Beechcraft T-34 Mentor was a post-World War II trainer that was a learning workhorse for thousands of cadets for more than 25 years.  It was used in the Air Force until the 1960s and a go-to in the Navy well into the 1970s. The senior Hahnemann and his partner, Len Tucker, purchased the plane four years ago from legendary NASA astronaut and United States Air Force Colonel Frank Borman, Commander of Apollo 8.  Apollo 8 was the first mission to fly around the Moon. Also a test pilot – and former President of Eastern Airlines – Borman put his own high-performance enhancements on the T-34, installing a Continental IO-550, which was the largest engine you could put in a Mentor. The twin "SU" lettering as the plane's nickname – SU SU IX – also continued Borman's tradition of using the first letters of his wife Susan's name on his aircraft. On the HSR competition side, a highlight of the overall entry list is a nice turnout of entries in the HSR Sasco Vintage Cup for Groups 2 and 3. Home to small-bore racing machines that deliver big-time competition, Sasco Vintage Cup features many unique and eclectic race cars. One particularly rare entry is the Olthoff Racing 1960 No. 26 GSM Dart driven by Englishman John Spiers.  The GSM was built in South Africa by Glass Sport Motor company.  The company, which manufactured the Dart from 1959 until 1962, got its name – Glass Sport – given its use of fiberglass.  The lightweight production sports cars were generally used for racing. The No. 26 has been modified to feature a full flip-top front end and left-hand drive. Power comes from a Ford 1600 Kent engine – produced in Kent, England – with twin side-draft carburetors. Spiers will battle with a top trio of British-built Ginettas, including frequent HSR race winner and podium finishers Hervey Parke in his 1965 No. 11 Ginetta G4 prepared by Michael's Vintage Racing. Michael Oritt drives a similar 1961 No. 82 Ginetta G4 while Thomas Grudovich completes the quick Ginetta contingent in his 1966 No. 425 Ginetta G4. Another favorite small-bore British contender could be the comeback story of the weekend. Accomplished HSR driver Kenneth Greenberg was uninjured in a heavy Turn 1 accident in December's season-ending HSR event at Sebring, but his Air Power Racing 1964 No. 324 Morgan Plus 4 was nearly a total write off. Weston Farmer and the team at Air Power quickly went to work non-stop, and Greenberg and the Morgan are entered in the Vintage Cup sprints and B.R.M Legacy Enduro. Farmer reports many hours are still ahead before traveling to Sebring next week from the team shop in St. Augustine, Fla. after the Morgan's frame was destroyed and even the engine block was cracked in the incident. The team bought a similar 1967 Morgan chassis as a donor car, and the roll cage was completed last week. Oil lines, fuel lines and electrical systems are going in this week and a rebuilt engine recently arrived. With host retail coach Wendy Batten   https://wendybatten.com/podcast-intro/   Episode Overview There is a retail trend I'm seeing that is growing across independent retail shops worldwide and I'm sharing all about it in this episode. Let's talk about analog wellness. So what exactly is it? I'm diving into just that in this episode: what it is; how customers are craving slower, more human experiences and how brick-and-mortar retailers are uniquely positioned to meet that need. I'll explain why this shift has little to do with what you sell and everything to do with how customers feel when they're in your shop. I'll share why this matters now, especially as people step back from constant screens, noise, and digital overload. Listeners will come away with a clearer understanding of how analog wellness shows up in retail, how it connects to hospitality and experience-driven sales, and why this approach strengthens loyalty, word of mouth, and long-term growth. Our Key Topics What analog wellness and analog wellbeing mean in a retail context Why customers are seeking slower, tactile, in-person experiences The role of brick-and-mortar shops as places to exhale and feel seen How experience and hospitality replace price-based competition Ways retailers are creating gathering spaces and community moments Why invitations and connection matter more than urgency or discounts Key Takeaways for Retailers on Analog Wellness Customers are craving calm, connection, and human interaction, not constant stimulation. Brick-and-mortar shops can serve as a third space beyond home and work. Experience and how customers feel now drive loyalty more than price. Small, intentional moments of hospitality can create lasting impact. Designing around customer feelings strengthens sales and relationships.   "Analog wellness is not anti-technology. It is pro-human." -Wendy Batten This week, I would love for you to listen in and reflect on how your shop can become a place where customers slow down, feel seen, and want to linger. What if the dried-up brook isn't a dead end but your doorway to the next miracle? We unpack Elijah's journey from Cherith to Zarephath as a practical framework for modern faith: hide before you herald, receive before you release, and obey before you see the outcome. Along the way, we challenge the myth of a single source by exploring how God's provision shifts forms without losing force—and why clinging to yesterday's method can cause you to miss today's supply. Our guest walks us through the rhythms of process, refining, and promotion with vivid insights: ravens as unlikely couriers, seasonal streams that test trust, and a widow's last meal that becomes a pipeline of provision. We dig into how consecration positions us for wonders, why faith grows strongest when sight is weakest, and how alignment turns believers from storage units into delivery systems. Anchored by Isaiah 45's “treasures in darkness” and the covering promises of Psalm 91, we frame hidden seasons as sacred classrooms where courage, clarity, and calling take shape. You'll hear a powerful personal testimony about carrying a prophetic word through medical valleys, the difference between striving and surrender, and the practical steps that keep you steady when outcomes lag behind obedience. If you're navigating scarcity, uncertainty, or delay, this conversation offers language and tools to keep moving—celebrate the moment you're in, learn what it's teaching, and watch how the next assignment emerges right where the old source ran dry. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage, and leave a review to help more people find these conversations. We love to hear from our listeners! Suzanne's Studio: Where Art Meets Community

A Homecoming Story Suzanne Soliday has come full circle. After opening Suzanne's Studio in Woodstock back in 2018, relocating to Florida in 2021, and continuing her artistic passion in Titusville, she's now back where it all began. In this Tourism Tuesday episode of The Valley Today, host Janet Michael and cohost from Shenandoah County Tourism, Kary Haun sit down with Suzanne at her freshly reopened studio on West Court Street to explore what makes this creative space so special. Recording on a Friday afternoon with no snow on the ground—yet bracing for a major winter storm by Tuesday—the trio dives into Woodstock's thriving arts scene and the unique experiences awaiting both locals and visitors. More Than Just a Studio Suzanne's Studio isn't your typical paint-and-go craft shop. Instead, it's a community hub where creativity meets connection. "It's not just where you grab a trinket, and you sit and paint, and you leave," Suzanne explains. "We really want them to have an experience." That philosophy permeates everything the studio offers. From the moment guests walk through the door, Suzanne focuses on creating memories, teaching techniques, and helping people discover abilities they didn't know they had. In fact, she admits that her favorite customers are those who claim they're "not artists"—because watching them surprise themselves brings her the greatest joy. A Creative Menu The studio offers an impressive array of artistic mediums. First and foremost, pottery painting remains the foundational offering, allowing children and adults alike to paint on bisque that's then fired into ceramic keepsakes. However, Suzanne has expanded the menu considerably since her Florida days. Glass fusion has emerged as a standout addition. Positioned somewhere between mosaics and stained glass, this technique allows participants to score and cut glass, create designs, and watch as everything fuses together in the kiln to create three-dimensional pieces. Moreover, Suzanne is pushing the boundaries by incorporating ceramic paints with glass, opening up entirely new creative possibilities. Beyond these core offerings, the studio also features fiber arts, where colorful wool gets poked into fabric using simple needles to create soothing, therapeutic art pieces. Additionally, canvas painting remains a favorite, complete with 70 easels available for mobile events at vineyards and other venues. Furthermore, screen art offers a hybrid experience between clay and canvas, using heavy-body texture medium and templates to create surprisingly easy yet impressive results. Classes, Camps, and Community Events Despite being back in Woodstock for less than 30 days at the time of recording, Suzanne has already hit the ground running with a robust schedule. The upcoming Cozy Mug workshop promises to teach four different techniques for creating personalized drinkware. Meanwhile, "Kids Create Like the Great Artists" invites young creators to make their own paint from eggs and chalk, then paint in the style of masters like Gauguin. Looking ahead, spring break camp runs every morning from 9:00 to 11:30 during public school break. Unlike typical craft projects with popsicle sticks and googly eyes, these camps focus on "high-end art" that kids can proudly take home in hand-painted canvas bags. Similarly, summer brings themed camps including Madagascar Camp in June, Campfire Fun in July, and Glam Ranch in August specifically designed for girls ages 12-15. Throughout the year, workshops range from creating nightlights and framed cardinal mosaics to bookshelf sun-catchers and candle screens. Notably, some events—like the bookshelf sun-catcher workshop—have already sold out, demonstrating the community's enthusiasm for these creative opportunities. Perfect Partnerships Suzanne enthusiastically credits Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation, particularly Teresa Funkhouser, for helping launch the business. "Without them, I probably wouldn't have been able to launch this business because they really sold my classes for me," she acknowledges. This partnership continues, with the studio now hosting classes previously offered through Parks and Rec. Additionally, the studio's location just off Court Square positions it perfectly within Woodstock's vibrant downtown ecosystem. Guests can easily grab coffee at Flour to Fork, pick up cupcakes from local bakeries, or browse books at Bonfire Bookstore before or after their creative sessions. In fact, Suzanne actively encourages cross-promotion, suggesting customers buy books at Bonfire then create matching bookshelf sun-catchers at the studio. The studio accommodates up to 50 people in the main space or 20 in the private back room, making it ideal for birthday parties, team-building events, date nights, or girls' weekends. Furthermore, while the studio is working on obtaining an ABC license, private events can currently bring their own wine and beer, creating the perfect atmosphere for adult creativity. Woodstock's Artistic Renaissance Kary paints a picture of Woodstock's flourishing arts community that extends well beyond Suzanne's Studio. Colloquia Arts, a brand new gallery just north of Court Street, hosts monthly shows with receptions. Meanwhile, VECCA features an artist-in-residence working in the window and monthly art shows, typically with receptions on the first Saturday. Additionally, Bonfire Bookstore has launched the Fire Starter Review, an elevated talent show and performance series that Kary describes as "pretty amazing." This concentration of creative energy makes Woodstock a genuine destination for art lovers. As Kary notes, "It's a beautiful place to be and an inspiring place to make art." Winter Wonderland Activities While the podcast focuses heavily on arts and culture, Kary ensures listeners know about Shenandoah County's winter recreation opportunities. With eight wineries scattered throughout the county—the highest concentration in this region of Virginia—visitors can enjoy cozy fireplaces, live music, and special weekend events while gazing out at snow-covered vineyards. Cave Ridge Vineyard's heated igloos offer a particularly magical experience, providing warmth and comfort while creating the feeling of sitting in a winter wonderland. Similarly, Bryce Resort delivers skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snow tubing, and snowshoeing opportunities, with equipment rentals and ski school available for beginners. For those who prefer to stay warm, the Copper Kettle provides food, drinks, and a cozy atmosphere. Celebrating Small Business Success The conversation concludes with well-deserved recognition for The Buttercup, recently named Small Business of the Year by the local chamber. This award highlights the strength of Shenandoah County's small business community and the dedication of entrepreneurs who make the region special. Planning Your Visit Suzanne's Studio welcomes walk-ins Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM during winter months, with expanded hours coming in summer. The studio also opens whenever school is out, recognizing that families seek creative activities during breaks. Interested visitors can explore the full calendar of workshops and classes at suzannes-studio.net, follow along on Facebook at Suzanne's Studio LLC, or check Instagram @suzannestudiollc. For broader Shenandoah County tourism information, including winery events, live music schedules, and seasonal activities, Kary directs everyone to visitshenandoahcounty.com. The Bigger Picture Ultimately, this Tourism Tuesday episode reveals something deeper than just promotional content. It showcases how small businesses like Suzanne's Studio create ripple effects throughout their communities—fostering creativity, building connections, supporting other local businesses, and giving both residents and visitors meaningful experiences that transcend simple transactions. As Suzanne eloquently puts it, when people leave her studio feeling accomplished and encouraged, "it makes them better people when they go out into the world." That philosophy of pouring kindness and encouragement into others creates a better community for everyone—one handmade mug, fused glass piece, and painted canvas at a time.

What can you do when obedience to God feels like a death sentence? In Esther 4, fear, faith, and divine providence collide and silence is no longer an option. In this episode we'll walk through Esther chapter 4 uncovering how God's unseen hand positions His people long before the crisis arrives. We'll see the tension between God's call and our willingness to answer, the power of fasting and prayer, and the famous turning point: “for such a time as this.”Inside this episode of our Esther Bible Study:Mordecai's public mourning becomes a courageous act of faith and leadership.Esther's fear is real, but faithful action doesn't require the absence of fear.An eye-opening biblical link between Proverbs, Esther, Joel, Matthew, and God's eternal pattern of deliverance.Esther 4 invites us to see our lives through the lens of divine providence, courage, and calling. These themes aren't ancient. They speak directly to moments we're all facing right now.Positioned on purpose. Your circumstances may feel accidental or even the result of your own effort, but Scripture reminds us that God places His people strategically. Like Esther, your influence exists for more than comfort. It exists for obedience.Faith that acts despite fear. Biblical faith doesn't deny risk. It moves forward anyway. Esther shows us that trusting God often means stepping into uncertainty with courage. When God calls, silence isn't neutral. Mordecai's challenge to Esther reveals that silence can cost more than obedience. God's purposes will stand, but how we respond shapes our story. This episode highlights God's providence and reminds us that the same God is still at work today. We love feedback, but can't reply without your email address.
