In this special bonus episode closing out Season 11 of The Remarkable Retail Podcast and the year 2025, hosts Steve Dennis & Michael LeBlanc complete the second half of their annual predictions review—one of the most popular and anticipated episodes of the year. The episode opens with brief but timely discussion on two high-profile retail-adjacent experiences. First us Dennis shares insights from Amazon's first-ever grocery analyst day in Seattle, offering a clearer picture of the company's “one grocery” vision and it's already substantial online presence, now being accelerated as they invest in same day deliver of perishable items. The conversation then turns to Netflix House, following Dennis's visit to the newly opened Dallas location, the second of three that are planned. Positioned in a former department store anchor, Netflix House blends immersive experiences, branded merchandise, gaming, and a restaurant. While customer traffic was encouraging, Dennis offered a frank critique of execution, citing confusing layouts, weak wayfinding, and inconsistent merchandising. The takeaway is cautiously optimistic: the concept has potential, but it is not yet operating at the level that would warrant significant expansion. The core of the episode is Part 2 of Dennis' annual predictions reckoning. Dennis revisits his forecast that department stores would continue “running to stand still,” awarding himself an A-minus as most banners remain stuck in negative or flat comps with limited progress on profitability. His prediction of significant change at Target earns a B-plus, correctly anticipating leadership transitions and the end of the Ulta partnership, though anticipated store closures did not materialize.Dennis also scores highly on his prediction that store closures would once again exceed store openings in the U.S., driven by bankruptcies and retrenchment across drugstores, mid-market apparel, and specialty retail. Predictions around Amazon's physical grocery strategy are largely validated, while expectations for a surge in retail dealmaking and IPO activity fall short, earning a candid C-minus.The episode closes with a nuanced reassessment of the so-called “Ozempic recession.” While the term itself overstated the impact, Dennis and LeBlanc agree that GLP-1 drugs are reshaping consumption patterns—particularly in food, alcohol, and apparel—with long-term implications retailers can no longer ignore. The organization has transformed the former Rite Aid at Michigan and Pennsylvania avenues into a state-of-the-art facility offering pharmacy, urgent care, and occupational health services. The project involved a full interior demolition and rebuild, turning what was once a single-use pharmacy into a one-stop shop for diagnostics, prescriptions, and walk-in care. UM Health-Sparrow Regional President Margaret Dimond said the location was too vital to leave vacant, as the previous Rite Aid had filled nearly 100,000 prescriptions annually. Positioned across from the hospital with its own parking lot and a CATA bus stop, the new clinic provides convenience and accessibility for patients. The pharmacy also includes a drive-thru and extended evening hours, which local pharmacists say are crucial for patients seeking medications after typical business hours. Pharmacy Director Todd Belding explained that high demand for prescriptions in Sparrow's professional building helped spark the idea for the new site. He emphasized that the space not only expands pharmacy access but also integrates essential services like X-rays and diagnostic testing—all under one roof. The clinic officially opened October 6, with a ribbon-cutting two days later that filled the parking lot before the doors even opened. The pharmacy launch is part of UM Health-Sparrow's larger plan to expand healthcare access across Lansing. The system is investing roughly $150 million in projects near its downtown campus, including a new $100 million psychiatric hospital on the former Lansing Eastern High School site and an outpatient surgery center across from the new pharmacy. Together, these initiatives underscore UM Health-Sparrow's commitment to revitalizing the city's medical landscape and meeting the community's growing healthcare needs.

At NADA Miami 2025, Bad at Sports' Duncan MacKenzie and Ryan Peter Miller sit down with Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, better known to most of the art world as meme-lord and art-world agent provocateur Jerry Gogosian. In a conversation that swings between dead serious and totally unhinged, Hilde traces the unlikely origin story of Jerry: a near-fatal tick bite in Hudson, NY; weeks in the ICU where she went blind, deaf, and lost the use of her hands and feet; and the eight-month bedridden period that led her to start making art-world memes "six or seven a day" just to stay sane. She explains how Jerry Gagosian—a name cheekily mashed up from Jerry Saltz and Larry Gagosian—became an anonymous voice for the insiders, registrars, assistants, and "world's oldest interns" of the art world. Positioned "at the cutting edge of stating the obvious," Jerry's memes mined the absurdities of art fairs, galleries, power, and self-seriousness, often circulating so widely that even Arne Glimcher at Pace blasted one to the entire staff. For Hilde, the memes were "fast food," while the deeper writing and podcasting they spawned became the real work. The episode also dives into Hilde's hatred of artspeak, her love of Pixar movies as real art, and the gulf between what artists claim their work does in press releases and what's actually visible in the work. She riffs on turning incomprehensible exhibition texts into literal film scripts, skewers academic pretense, and praises the raw "holy" feeling of walking into a gallery without any language or theory at all. In the second half of the conversation, Hilde talks about going to business school at NYU Stern after years inside galleries and the market. Learning macro- and microeconomics, statistics, and reading things like Enron's 10-K filings gave her a new lens on the art world as a distorted, unsustainable luxury market in a broader service-and-finance-based U.S. economy. From there, she and the hosts push into the hard questions: oversupply and under-demand for art, MFA pipelines, self-censorship, the moral theater of "perfect" artists, and why she believes most art schools should probably be consolidated or shut down. In today's sermon, we explore what Scripture teaches about living in alignment with God so that His favor flows freely in our lives. Favor is not accidental—it's the result of posture, obedience, and proximity to God's heart.Drawing from Luke 2:51–52, we see Jesus Himself grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and man. We then journey through Acts 2:46–47, discovering how the early church positioned itself for continuous blessing through unity, devotion, and joyful worship. Proverbs 3:1–6 reminds us that favor comes through trusting the Lord wholeheartedly, while Proverbs 8:17, 34–35 reveals the rewards of diligently seeking Him. Finally, Psalm 5:12 assures us that God surrounds the righteous with favor like a shield.Whether you're believing God for breakthrough, direction, or renewed strength, this sermon will help you posture your life to receive all that God intends for you.

Interview with Nic Earner, Managing Director of Alkane Resources Ltd.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/alkane-resources-asxalk-post-merger-gold-producer-targets-180k-aueq-ounces-7916Recording date: 17th November 2025Alkane Resources has successfully completed its transformational merger with Mandalay Resources, establishing itself as a diversified mid-tier gold producer with three operating mines across Australia and Sweden. The integration, finalized in August 2025, has delivered on all key strategic objectives while positioning the company for its next phase of growth in a strengthening gold price environment. The merger has transformed Alkane's market profile substantially. Production guidance now stands at 160,000-175,000 ounces annually, with management targeting a 180,000-ounce run rate by next year. Market capitalization has expanded from approximately A$900 million at the pro-forma merger date to around A$1.4 billion currently. Trading liquidity has improved dramatically, with daily ASX turnover reaching A$8 million and the company securing placement in the ASX 300 index while approaching ASX 200 status.Perhaps most significantly, Alkane maintains a pristine balance sheet with A$170 million in cash and bullion and zero debt beyond equipment financing. This financial strength, combined with the company's largely unhedged production profile, creates substantial cash generation capacity. Managing Director Nic Earner explained the mathematics: with 80% of production unhedged, "each 100 bucks you add to the gold price, it's 15 million bucks" in additional cash flow.Looking ahead, management has established a 12-month timeline for potential acquisitions while maintaining strict jurisdictional discipline, focusing exclusively on tier-one regions including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, and Scandinavia. Simultaneously, operational priorities center on cost reduction at Sweden's Bjorkdal mine, where initiatives could reduce all-in sustaining costs by 20-25% from US$2,700 to approximately US$2,200 through production increases and grade optimization. The company's disciplined capital allocation framework, operational focus, and accelerating cash generation position Alkane as a compelling investment opportunity in the current gold market environment, with management emphasizing that superior cash accumulation should drive valuation re-rating versus comparable peers.View Alkane Resources' company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/alkane-resourcesSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

What looks like a setback is often God setting you up for greater things. Walk confidently knowing God is directing your steps and unlocking doors no one can shut.#PositionedForFavor #SoulHarvestChurch #FavorTeaching #FaithBuilding

John Allen thinks people are missing the potential reversal of corporate tax cuts. He discusses the enormous AI capex from the top four hyperscalers, calling it “astonishing” and saying it makes up “at least 0.5% - 1%” of GDP. He thinks the U.S. is “better positioned than China to win the AI race,” and thinks valuations “could be reasonable.”======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. In this episode of Full Disclosure – Live!, DebtBook product leaders Stephen Yokim and James Perez sit down with Joey Fuqua, Finance Director for the City of Henderson, North Carolina, to discuss modernization, resilience, and what's ahead for a small city on the cusp of growth. In early 2024, a ransomware attack disrupted Henderson's access to critical financial data and reporting systems. Amid the challenge of restoring operations, DebtBook played a key role in helping the city maintain audit compliance and keep essential reporting processes running smoothly. Joey reflects on the experience as both a test of resilience and a turning point in how Henderson approaches data security and cloud-based systems moving forward. Joey traces his ten years in Henderson, describing how he replaced paper-heavy workflows with automation which improved controls and generated more than $150,000 in unbudgeted bank rebates. He shares why Henderson adopted DebtBook for GASB lease and subscription compliance and how he's now evaluating a move from debt spreadsheets to DebtBook's debt management module for added resilience. Looking ahead, Joey shares some of Henderson's opportunities: proximity to the Research Triangle, two interstates, and a $100M+ regional water plant upgrade that will double capacity and support new development. With council transitions and zoning work underway, he's focused on positioning the city for sustainable growth after decades of industrial change. Top Takeaways: (1) Cyber Lessons, The Hard Way: A late-February ransomware incident wiped local files, showing the need for independent backups, cloud-first operations, and rigorous vendor oversight. (2) Hands-On Partnership Matters: DebtBook proactively reached out, restored access to key records already in the platform, and guided workflows, helping Henderson stay audit-ready while other systems were rebuilt. (3) Positioned for Growth: With proximity to the Research Triangle, two interstates, and a $100M+ regional water plant upgrade set to double capacity, Henderson is aligning infrastructure and governance to capture incoming development.

David Nicholson previews Amazon (AMZN) earnings, due after the close. He thinks Amazon is “very well positioned to deliver on the AI promise” with the widespread use of AWS. He says not to “count them out” even if they don't report a strong AI quarter today. “You have this embedded userbase…that are very, very comfortable” with using the entire AWS suite, he argues. David also lays out expectations for its other business segments, including ads.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Three tires, one incredible day at the track. At the scenic Burt Brothers Motorpark in Salt Lake City, we spent the day doing a good, old-fashioned Sailun tire test, putting three of Sailun Tire Americas' newest products – the Atrezzo SVA2 ultra-high-performance all-season tire, the Terramax AT2 all-terrain tire, and Terramax RT rugged-terrain tire – through their paces across asphalt, gravel, and rock, respectively. Each tire showed off its unique performance and character. We started with the Atrezzo SVA2, developed by the Chattanooga-based R&D team for North American roads. It features an asymmetrical tread design and Quiet Ride Technology for confident handling and a calm, composed feel.Next up was the Terramax AT2, designed for drivers who divide their time between the highway and off-road. The AT2 features a new casing, enhanced compound, and protective sidewall biters for traction and cut resistance. It's 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake certified and backed by a 50,000-mile warranty. We wrapped up this Sailun tire test with the Terramax RT, the company's first rugged-terrain tire. Positioned between an A/T and M/T, it provides aggressive grip without the excessive noise or harshness often found in mud-terrains. Its squared profile and staggered shoulder lugs with stone ejectors are designed to give it confident traction and a stable, on-road feel.Which of these three would perform best in your market? Let us know, and stay tuned for more from What's Treading.

3. US Intelligence Successes vs. Policy Failures Leading to the 2022 Invasion. Serhii Plokhy (Professor of Ukrainian History at Harvard University) details the period leading to the February 2022 invasion, where Russia positioned troops along the border, while the Biden administration publicly ruled out sending US troops or weapons to Ukraine. This policy is identified as a "colossal misjudgment" of Putin. Although US intelligence successfully reported Kremlin war plans almost in real time, hoping to deter Putin, little was done to militarily strengthen Ukraine. The prevailing Western assessment—that Kyiv would fall quickly and Ukraine would be overrun within a week—was based on a massive miscalculation that underestimated the Ukrainian military and people's resolve. Vladimir Putin framed the war using historical claims, stating that Russians and Ukrainians are "one people." This belief, rooted in 19th-century Russian imperial ideas, led to the flawed expectation that 150,000 to 200,000 troops would be sufficient and that Ukrainians would welcome them. Putin's central aim, consistent since the 2014 war, remains stopping Ukraine's Western drift and forcing it into the Russian-controlled Eurasian Union. The countdown to the current war began after President Zelensky, who was an unlikely war leader elected in 2019, refused to implement the Minsk agreements according to Putin's destabilizing agenda during their meeting in Paris in December 2019.

In this episode of TechMagic, hosts Cathy Hackl and Lee Kebler unpack the week's biggest tech stories, from OpenAI's latest announcements and Sora's deepfake potential to Meta's sold-out Ray-Ban smart glasses. They explore how AI integrations with platforms like Coursera, Canva, and Zillow could reshape how we access and trust information. The hosts also dive into the implications of skyrocketing AI startup valuations and reflect on the end of AOL dial-up, closing a chapter in internet history. Balancing enthusiasm with caution, they challenge listeners to consider the ethical, social, and creative consequences of an increasingly AI-driven world.Come for the tech and stay for the magic!Episode Highlights:The Privacy Implications of AI Video Generation – Cathy Hackl's hands-on test of OpenAI's Sora exposes major privacy challenges around biometric data and deepfake creation. By simply reading numbers and moving one's head, users can generate hyper-realistic videos of themselves or others, without consent. While visuals are striking, voice replication remains flawed. Cathy and Lee caution that such tools blur ethical lines, raising urgent questions about consent, authenticity, and data ownership in creative AI adoption.OpenAI's Vision for Information Control – Lee Kebler dissects OpenAI's ambition to centralise online experiences through deep integrations with Coursera, Canva, and Zillow. By keeping users inside ChatGPT's ecosystem, OpenAI could redefine how information flows, but at a cost. Cathy and Lee warn that algorithmic filtering may restrict perspective diversity, amplify bias, and erode the open web's foundational freedom. Their advice: diversify digital sources to maintain balanced, transparent information access. The Rise of Consumer AR Hardware – Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses sell-out reveals the next leap in wearable adoption. Cathy and Lee analyse how fashion-forward design, practical utility, and accessible pricing have made AR more approachable. Positioned between novelty and necessity, these wearables hint at future accessibility, productivity, and communication uses. They stress that long-term success will depend on ergonomic design, battery life, and balancing innovation with real-world wearability. The AI Investment Bubble Warning Signs – Cathy and Lee discuss mounting worries from industry giants like Sam Altman and Jeff Bezos about inflated AI valuations. Unlike past bubbles driven by retail hype, today's surge stems from institutional overconfidence and misunderstanding of AI fundamentals. Many investors conflate general AI with LLMs, fuelling unrealistic expectations.
