Our Broken Arrow Senior Pastor, Ethan Vanse, continues week three of our teaching series, The Life of Abraham. In Genesis 15, we see that at the center of everything is a God who pursues us, initiates covenant, and invites us into something unbreakable. Abraham shows us what that kind of relationship looks like: bringing God his deepest desires, his honest doubts, and even his greatest shortcomings. And instead of pushing him away, God meets him there—making a promise Abraham could never fulfill on his own and carrying the weight of it Himself. In this message, Pastor Ethan explores the following Scriptures: Genesis 15:1-18 ESV 1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." 2 But Abram said, "O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" 3 And Abram said, "Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir." 4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: "This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir." 5 And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. 7 And he said to him, "I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess." 8 But he said, "O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?" 9 He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." 10 And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. 11 And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12 As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, "Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. 14 But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. 16 And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete." 17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, Psalm 25:14 ESV 14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. Hebrews 4:16 ESV 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Next Steps Looking to take a next step? Our Broken Arrow Associate Pastor, Ian Wilson, continues week two of our teaching series, The Life of Abraham. Following God doesn't mean life gets easier, it means you learn to depend on Him in a deeper way. In Abraham's story, we see what happens when faith meets pressure: a famine hits, fear rises, and instead of trusting God, he leans into control, self-preservation, and ultimately failure, and if we're honest, we do the same: choosing control over trust, fear over faith, and self over sacrifice. But the hope of the story isn't Abraham's performance, it's God's faithfulness. Even when Abraham gets it wrong, God steps in, protects him, and continues to fulfill His promises. In this message, Pastor Ian explores the following Scriptures: Romans 15:4 ESV Genesis 12:10-20 ESV 1 Peter 4:12-13 ESV Deuteronomy 11:10-15 NIV Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV Matthew 16:24-26 ESV Ephesians 2:1-5 ESV Romans 2:4 ESV Genesis 13:1-4 ESV – Next Steps Looking to take a next step? Pastor Gabe George continues week eleven of our teaching series, Breakthrough. Transformation happens in us when we submit our deepest desires to God. He invites us to trust His goodness by bringing Him our honest, real desires. As we come to Him in prayer, God uses that space to form us and to shape our desires to align with His will. When we trust God's goodness in the context of deep relationship with Him, we can bring our true self to Him, allow Him to form us more into His image, and watch as He moves on our behalf according to His good plan.
