St. Patrick's story is one of suffering, conversion, and mission. Enslaved as a teenager, he encountered God in hardship and later returned to Ireland to preach Christ. This episode reflects on the Lorica of St. Patrick—a powerful prayer of spiritual strength and protection—and its invitation during Lent: to rise each day not by our own strength, but through the strength of the Trinity and the life of Christ. Rooted in the Cross, surrounded by the communion of saints, and sustained by Christ's presence, we are reminded: we do not walk alone. Article #18 - O Seeker of Good, Draw Near - (يَا بَاغِيَ الْخَيْرِ أَقْبِلْ)
"I sat down with my dad to ask him what he has learned as a fatherhood." In this special episode of Draw Near, Kara sits down with her dad for an honest and heartfelt conversation about faith and fatherhood. Together they reflect on what it means to become a father, how faith shapes parenting, what we can learn from our parents and children, and the quiet ways children absorb what their fathers believe. Along the way, there are stories, wisdom earned over time, and yes — a few classic dad jokes. Whether you are a father, have a father, or are still healing from that relationship, this conversation invites you to consider how earthly fatherhood reflects (imperfectly but beautifully) the heart of God the Father. Topics include: • Growing in faith through parenting • Spiritual leadership in the home • Lessons learned the hard way • What children really notice Psalm 103:13 reminds us: “As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear him.” (RSVCE) We pray this episode strengthens families, encourages dads, and helps all of us draw nearer to the Father who never fails. Featuring: Steve Macchia, Suz Skinner, Matt Scott "God's invitation is always the same: come close, draw near, follow Me." - Steve Macchia What does it mean to truly receive God's invitation? In this episode of The Discerning Leader Podcast, Steve Machia, Sue Skinner, and Matt Scott explore a powerful grouping of parables from the book Praying the Parables of Jesus—each echoing a single, compelling word: come. Through reflections on the wedding banquet (Matthew 22), the ten virgins, and the vineyard stories, the conversation turns toward the condition of our hearts. Why do we hesitate at the King's invitation? Why do we find distractions, excuses, divided loyalties? And what might it look like to live with oil in our lamps—alert, expectant, and ready? DRAW NEAR TO GOD | A Sermon from James 4:7–10 (NKJV) | Manningham Christian Centre "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." — James 4:8 What does it actually mean to draw near to God? It sounds simple — even romantic. But James, the half-brother of Jesus and one of the early church's most practical voices, makes it clear that drawing near is not passive. It's not a feeling. It's a posture, a pursuit, and a daily decision. In this message we unpack James 4:7–10 across three powerful movements: ▶ POINT 1 — Drawing Near Requires Recognizing Who God Is Before nearness comes submission. Before closeness comes a reckoning with the holiness of God — and the breathtaking reality that this same holy God made a way to bring you close through the cross. ▶ POINT 2 — Drawing Near Requires Honest Hands and an Undivided Heart James confronts the "double-minded" believer — the one trying to hold God in one hand and the world in the other. The distance you feel from God isn't because He has moved. It's because you're trying to stand in two places at once. ▶ POINT 3 — Drawing Near Is an Active, Ongoing Pursuit James says "draw near" — not "arrive." This is a lifestyle, not a one-time event. Like any relationship that matters, closeness with God grows through consistent, intentional pursuit. And the promise is clear: He will draw near to you.

All Is Vanity (Ecclesiastes-Inspired) | Draw Near to God + Poem BreakdownShirah Chante hosts the Teens Draw Near to God Poetry Podcast for teenagers, parents of teens, and anyone who wants to see teens reach their God-given destiny. Using James 4:8, she urges listeners to draw near to God with effort, describing faith as action and emphasizing that God rewards those who diligently seek Him. She challenges listeners to leave sinful habits and pursue a real relationship with Father God through prayer, Scripture reading, and prioritizing God like someone you pursue in a relationship. The episode introduces the poem/song “All Is Vanity” (inspired by Ecclesiastes 1), reads it aloud, and begins a line-by-line discussion, referencing King Solomon, money, wisdom, and the idea that everything in life fades except God's Word and a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ. She leads a salvation prayer, encourages starting in John chapter 3, and closes by inviting viewers to subscribe, share, and return for the continuation of the poem discussion.00:00 Welcome to the Podcast00:50 Draw Near to God02:03 Leaving Sin Behind02:35 Faith Takes Effort03:50 Chasing God Like a Crush04:45 All Is Vanity Intro05:43 Poem Performance07:52 Breaking Down the Lyrics09:48 What Really Lasts12:00 Salvation Prayer13:34 Next Steps and FarewellSupport the show

Suffering is where transformation begins! What does that have to do with Lent? Many of us approach Lent thinking about what we have to give up. But what if Lent isn't mainly about loss… but about what God wants to build within us? In this episode, we explore the deeper meaning of penance, suffering, and the desert season of Lent. Why does the Church begin with ashes and words about death? How does penance actually train the heart? And why does every sacrifice ultimately point toward resurrection? Journal Questions: Where in my life right now feels like a desert, and how might God be inviting me to encounter Him there rather than escape it? What comfort, habit, or attachment might God be asking me to surrender so He can build something deeper in me? If resurrection always follows the cross, what “new life” might God be preparing in me through this season? Hebrews 4:14-16 “Draw Near the Throne of Grace”Series: Jesus is Greater Than Preacher: Will SpinkSunday MorningDate: 15th February 2026Passage: Hebrews 4:14-16
BJ and Kara go on a date, and they invite you to listen in. This week on Draw Near, Kara is joined by a very special guest: her husband, BJ!! Join a recorded at-home date centered on one of the most important (and challenging) aspects of marriage: communication. The date follows one of the intentional at-home dates from Draw Near's soon-to-be-released marriage resource, Near to You, a collection of ten guided dates designed to help married couples draw nearer to God and to one another at any stage of marriage. Set at the kitchen table (in sweats, with homemade cocktails), Kara and BJ invite you into a relaxed evening that includes prayer, Scripture, reflection, meaningful conversation, and a goofy game to close the night. Along the way, they talk honestly about how communication styles develop over time, how conflict and silence can affect intimacy, and how words or actions can become instruments of love within marriage. Whether you're newly married, years into marriage, or simply curious about building a healthy faith-filled relationship, this episode offers encouragement, honesty, and practical ideas you can bring into your own relationship. Dr. Tim Sperduto - Hebrews 10:19-25
Because Jesus has opened a new and living way by His blood and serves as our great High Priest, believers can draw near to God with bold confidence and full assurance of faith. On the strength of God's proven faithfulness, the church is called to hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering. And as the Day draws near, we must not neglect meeting together, but actively stir one another up to love, good works, and real ministry through encouragement and prayer.
How do you actually share your faith—without fear, awkward moments, or feeling like you have to have all the answers? In this short episode, Fred reflects on a simple, ordinary moment that became a doorway for grace. What started as a late-night stop for ice cream after church turned into months of prayer, presence, encouragement, and quiet fidelity—and ultimately, a life gently redirected toward healing, hope, and the Church. This story reminds us that sharing our faith doesn't usually begin with arguments or explanations. It begins with noticing, listening, and having the courage to say a simple “yes” when the Holy Spirit nudges. Because sometimes, the most powerful witness of the Gospel sounds like this: “We're about to pray. Is there anything we can pray for you about?” Book Fred and/or Kara to speak by visiting the Draw Near "booking page." Click here to become a patron! As our church concludes 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we pause to do something essential before moving forward: remember Jesus. In this message, we look at Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 11 to rediscover the heart of communion not as routine or ritual, but as a sacred act of devotion that shapes how we live, love, and stay anchored to Christ beyond the fast. This teaching challenges us to resist overindulgence, reject status and division, and return to the simplicity of the gospel. Communion becomes a reminder that the ground is level at the cross, that Jesus alone satisfies, and that remembering Him is the key to staying surrendered, humble, and spiritually nourished long after the fast ends. Clear answers to common misconceptions about Catholicism... In this episode of Draw Near, we begin clearing up some of the most common Catholic misunderstandings or assumptions. Misconceptions explained in this episode: Catholicism is about rules and rituals, not a personal relationship with Jesus. Catholics don't read the Bible and rely on tradition instead of Scripture. Catholics believe you earn salvation by works instead of being saved by grace. Throughout the episode, we look at key biblical passages and show how the Catholic Church has faithfully taught the fullness of Christ's message. This episode isn't a deep dive into every question; it is an invitation to understand what the Catholic Church truly teaches, where those teachings come from, and why they matter. If there's a specific misconception or teaching you'd like explored further, submit it here—we'd love to continue the conversation. In this sermon from the Draw Near series, Pastor Josh Hersey teaches from Luke 7:36–50, unpacking the story of the sinful woman with the alabaster jar and the Pharisee who invited Jesus into his home but failed to honor Him. This message explores the difference between surface-level faith and full surrender, revealing how religious familiarity can keep Jesus in the courtyard of our lives while true repentance leads us to worship at His feet. Through rich biblical context, this teaching answers questions about what surrender to Jesus really looks like, the meaning of true repentance, and why the gospel is not about self-righteousness but humility, grace, and love. If you've ever wondered what it means to surrender all to Jesus, this message will challenge and encourage you to lay everything down before Him. Did you accept Christ today? In moments when plans change and life slows down, we're reminded that God is always near and always inviting us closer. We would love for you to tune in, gather with your family, and take a few intentional moments to lean into God's presence right where you are. Even from home, let's draw near together.
Draw Near is still here—and this episode is all about returning to our "why." After a season of being in and out, adjusting rhythms, and letting life take its course, we wanted to speak honestly about where Draw Near is right now and how God has been gently guiding us forward. This episode invites you into our discernment, hope, and trust. Rooted in Isaiah 42:3, we reflect on the image of the Servant who does not break a bruised reed or extinguish a dimly burning wick. These words have shaped how we understand this season; It has not been a failure or fading, but as a time of careful tending. Jesus knows how to work with what is fragile. He repairs without rushing and restores without pressure. We share how this passage has helped us see the recent shifts in Draw Near as an invitation to listen more closely, allowing the Spirit to breathe life into the work in more sustainable ways. The mission remains. The vision endures. What's changing is the rhythm. If you've ever wondered whether something good was slipping away—or whether a quieter season meant God was less present—this episode is for you. What does it mean to truly press in to Jesus and not just be part of the crowd around Him? In this message, we walk through Luke 8 and the story of the woman who risked everything to touch the hem of Jesus' garment, discovering that desperation, faith, and deliberate pursuit get His attention. This teaching unpacks the cultural weight of “clean and unclean,” reveals how Jesus rewrites the rules of access to God, and challenges us to examine whether we are following Him for what He can give or simply for who He is. If you feel unworthy, distant, or desperate for something only God can do, this message is an invitation to stop hiding, press in, and encounter the grace that makes the unclean clean. As we begin 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, this message launches our Draw Near series with a simple but challenging invitation: be still. Using the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 and Jesus' words in John 15, we are reminded that fruitfulness does not come from striving or religious effort, but from abiding in Christ. In a fast-paced, driven culture, Jesus calls us back to His original design of relationship, rest, and closeness with God. This teaching unpacks what it means to remain in the vine, why doing for God must flow from being with Him, and how slowing down in His presence leads to real transformation. This is an invitation to stop striving, sit at His feet, and rediscover the one thing that truly matters. Did you accept Christ today? This is God's will for you and this is why Christ died: that you would draw near to God.
Our homes are shaped by what—and who—we draw near to most. Psalm 145:18 reminds us that the Lord is near to all who call on Him in truth, and when we intentionally seek His presence, it changes not only our hearts but the atmosphere of our homes. As we draw closer to Jesus individually and together as families, the fruit of the Spirit becomes more evident in our lives—bringing peace where there was tension, joy where there was weariness, and love where there was frustration. No matter our stage of life, prioritizing time with the Lord invites Him to transform our attitudes, relationships, and daily rhythms. Main Takeaways You’ll learn why drawing near to Jesus personally impacts the spiritual health of your home. Discover how time spent in God’s presence produces the fruit of the Spirit in everyday life. Understand why shared prayer and Scripture reading strengthen families spiritually. Reflect on practical ways to prioritize faith amid busy schedules. Be encouraged that seeking the Lord together brings lasting peace, joy, and renewed perspective.
