Every day we are building empires - creating a legacy to leave behind. Whether we mean to or not, we build empires in faith, our relationships with family and friends, our level of fitness in body mind and spirit, even by having fun - and of course our finances. Most of the time we let the chips fal…
Ernestine Tebon-Spreemann had her first experience with making extra money by selling mangoes at age 8 in Camaroon, West Africa. She has been hooked on the side hustle ever since. Fast forward to now, and she has transformed her failing brick and mortar consignment shop into an online shopping experience on the Poshmark app. Still working her 9 to 5 job, Ernestine believes everyone can and should have a way to make money on the side. In this interview, she will inspire you to find things in your own closet to begin a side hustle selling what you no longer need or wear. Who knows? This may develop into a great income, or even a full time reselling business! (FYI, Ernestine makes about $1,000 for every $200 she spends at a thrift store.) You might want to download the Poshmark App so you can follow along while we chat about this. Ernestine tells us all her tips - including how to price your items, how to prepare them to sell - and how she catalogs and stores over 800 items in her very small house… and how she can find them again after they have sold! Today's episode is a very special interview with my daughter, Nikki Romani. Nikki has written and published her first book - available now on Amazon (nikkiromani.com/book). We talk about her experiences on the World Race, an 11 month missions trip, where her experiences led her to know the God she had never met - the Holy Spirit. Do the miracles and spiritual encounters in the Bible still happen today? This is a question Nikki asked herself. She grew up going church and reading the Bible, but felt as though something was missing; an unexplainable power not of this world. Nikki started hearing stories of others experiencing miracles and she came to a point in her life she wanted to experience them too. She didn't realize the same power she read about in the Bible was living inside of her from the moment she asked Jesus into her heart. That power is the Holy Spirit. Through Nikki's desire to learn more about the Holy Spirit, she encountered Him in ways she never dreamed she would - from seeing angels, to witnessing miracles. You can encounter Him in this way too. In A God You've Never Met, you will learn: What it means to release control and surrender, What Scripture says about the Holy Spirit, How to hear the voice of God, How to discover your spiritual gifts, How to "see" in the spiritual realm. Are you ready to meet a God you've never met? Purchase your copy of A God You've Never Met today on Amazon here: nikkiromani.com/book Connect with Nikki on Instagram here: @nikkiromani

I've got a special treat for you today - my guest is Mel Greenberg, author of Running With Our Eyes Closed and contributor to Chaos to Clarity: Sacred Stories of Transformational Change. Don't you just love how things can unexpectedly come together on the internet? Mel and I met just over a week ago on Instagram, and I suspect this is just the beginning of a longtime connection. I think you will be inspired by Mel. Her story of redefining her life through a cancer diagnosis and the woes of a sudden empty nest will leave you with hope for your own future. Mel is the married mother of two sons in their early twenties. She worked as a copywriter and producer in radio and television before having children and making the decision to stay at home with them full-time. Once she became an empty nester, Mel struggled to find her voice and direction. Ultimately, it was her passion for writing and the discovery that she was not alone that led her to write. Oh boy, not much frustrates me more than when I hear someone say "I don't do that thing because I'm OLD." And I hear it more often than I'd like. You can fill in the blank with things like "email" "get a new smart phone" "learn a new skill" "run a marathon" "write a book" etc. etc. but the message is the same: "I think I'm too old to learn to do a new thing." Well, I'm here to debunk that attitude. In this episode, I'll share from a list of people who became famous or tried something new or conquered a new milestone after age 40. One even said, "my 90's were the most productive years of my life." (It's my goal to be able to say that one day, by the way...) This is by no means an exhaustive list, but if it helps to make you think about trying something new, then my mission is accomplished. In addition to these more well-known people, we all know someone older who ignores their age and does interesting things anyway, and we secretly admire them. So let's lose that self-imposed roadblock and try new things, shall we? Send me a DM or comment on one of my Instagram posts with what you'll be doing, in spite of your age! ;-) I'm @tamiromani on every platform, but here's the direct link to my Instagram. If you are interested in having a support system as you explore something new, then you should be in The Empire Builders Collective, a VIP group where we talk about what you should do and how to accomplish it. Doors will open early next year, so hop on the waiting list here: tamiromani.com/vipwaitlist

She stresses the importance of having a job to take care of your daily needs, a dream to work towards, and a hustle to help pay for that dream. And if you are a writer, or think you might have a book inside of you - you'll want to listen to the end where Keenya shares how she supernaturally was able to write, publish, and record the audiobook in a total of just two months time. I still am amazed at the speed of her process. She details her process, and the long list items she had to check off in order to get to the finish line. I met my guest, Sheri McIntyre, through the magic of social media. She reached out to me several months ago via Instagram messenger, and my life has not been the same since. Sheri was in the best shape of her life - and (she thought) the best health of her life when the unthinkable happened - a sudden rupture of a brain aneurysm left her helpless on New Years Day, 2016. Helpless, yes. Hopeless, no. Something inside Sheri rose up with strength and fortitude and she was determined to do whatever it takes to get better. She slowly learned how to walk and talk again - and now, not even four years from that day - she has written a book. I hope you will be inspired by Sheri's story. She reminds us all to have hope in the darkest of times, and to always look for the light, and then work hard to keep reaching for it. Above all, Sheri would like everyone who hears her story to THINK. Here are some resources we mentioned in this interview: Connect with Sheri on Instagram @compassionate.snob >>>Let her know you heard this podcast! Hi Empire Builders! I am really happy that my first episode after the introductions we've been doing is this one about being healthy enough. I've noticed a tendency to have an all or nothing mentality in this area. Every time we open a magazine or turn on the TV we are bombarded with images of others we would like to emulate, but really - it's unattainable for most of us. So what do we do? We do nothing. My guest today is going to teach you a better way. A way to be healthy enough - for you. Amy Van Liew spent 26 years as an engineer for HP, and when she took early retirement at age 50, she knew she needed to improve her health. All those years of corporate sitting had taken a toll. So, she educated herself and now is helping midlifers find the balance they need to be healthy enough. Healthy enough to enjoy life on their terms. I hope this episode sparks some ideas for changes you can make to be your healthiest self. Here are some of the resources we referenced in this interview: Book by Jack Canfield: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want to Be Instagram account comparing photo shopped images to real life (in her IG stories): @indyink Connect with Amy: Sign up here for Amy's 5 Minutes for 5 Days Challenge Be Healthy Enough on Instagram and Facebook YouTube: Amy Van Liew Fitness Connect with Tami - Instagram and Facebook If you are looking for a mastermind group of supportive entrepreneurs, we'd love to have you join us inside my VIP membership, Empire Builders Collective. Okay. Did I save the best Empire Building pillar introduction for last? Or is it the worst? Love it or hate it, the idea of leaving a legacy always comes down to money, for most of us. Yes, the point of this podcast is that we build empires in so many different areas, which is why we introduced the five pillars of empire building - and we will tell stories from all of them. Fitness, Fun. Family. Faith, and Finance...But that money thing? It's the one that haunts us, am I right? Maybe you've done just fine in this pillar of empire building. Or maybe you haven't. Or maybe you are somewhere in between. We will talk about all of it, and hear stories from the planners. The non planners, and even those who have successfully turned their finances around, even in their retirement years. Get ready for some ideas, some strategy, and some insight. Just a few of the questions we need to tackle are - Are you ready for retirement? Do you feel like you will never be able to retire? Did you invest wisely or live paycheck to paycheck? Did you teach your children about money or are they floundering as young adults? Are you generous, or do you feel like you need to keep every last penny because doggone it, you earned it? What will people say about your money skills when you're gone? Do you even care? Does all this talk about manifesting and attracting money really work? And by the way, Where did our money mindset come from? Did your parents live through the great depression? Did you grow up hearing your parents say things like “money doesn't grow on trees!” and “ What do you think I am, made of money?” And finally, is it possible to rewire your brain to have a different attitude about money and lighten up on the self-imposed pressure a bit? Oh boy. Money. Finances. We will talk to experts and non experts and hear their stories, and their advice - then, it's up to you whether you take it to heart or not. We will discuss business ideas, how to crack the code in online marketing… and let me reiterate here - YOU ARE NOT TOO OLD, AND IT'S NEVER TOO LATE. I might go on a tangent here, this is one of my pet peeves… every week I hear someone say things like, “I don't do email because I'm old.” (uhhh my mom learned how to email in her 80s and was delighted to have a new way to connect with people - it was so much easier for her than hand writing notes..) I think if my mom was still with us, she would have had a blast doing live videos on Instagram and Facebook…. So, lose that limiting belief, okay??? I cannot wait to see what shows up as we unpack and learn new things together...Are you ready? ____________________________________________________ We should connect on social media - I'm @tamiromani on every platform, but my current favorite is Instagram More resources: The Empire Builders Collective is a place where midlife visionaries find their authentic voice and unlock new purpose! Have you ever been to a memorial service for someone who had great faith? No one says, “we really don't know what she stood for.” No, they say things like, “her great faith was an inspiration to all who knew her,” or “ She loved others just like Jesus would,” or “she worked tirelessly to serve others and help them in their distress..” Great faith is a heritage, a legacy, an empire, if you will. Yes, Faith is an empire we can be intentional about building, and that empire, or legacy, will live on through generations. Nothing is clearer to me than this, especially since hearing about my 8th great grandmother, Mary - the similarities between Mary and my own mother are too close to be coincidence. There is a legacy of faith there. I hope this episode gets you thinking about the empire of faith you are building in your family. ************************** Connect with me on social media at @tamiromani - I'd love to hear from you! When you google family legacy, websites like Forbes will have a financial take on things, and we will get to that later when we talk about the Finance pillar of Empire building. For now, I want to introduce the concept of leaving a powerful family legacy in another way. All families have a set of beliefs, values and attitudes that are passed down through generations. Some are beautiful, some are harmful - but they exist, nonetheless. It is possible to redirect a harmful family legacy and reestablish a new one of hope and beauty, but it takes intentional action to do so. If you're an empty nester, you may think it's too late - your kids are grown, maybe out of the house - but working on yourself to change first, will create a ripple effect through the family. It will. But you have to Be patient. That's what empire building and legacy leaving is all about. The long game. If you like this podcast, I hope you will subscribe and give us a review - it's like a few coins in the tip jar for a podcaster, and appreciated so much! It's so easy to get caught up in all the have tos of life, that we forget to include the get tos. Think about it, we have to work for money to survive, but we get to share a meal with friends we haven't seen in awhile. The have tos are a given… but if we make a plan - plan to play, like my friend Staci says, we can pepper some get tos in between and make life richer. In this episode we will talk about how FUN and LAUGHTER can actually benefit your health - and it's the reason we've included it as an important empire to build.

Okay, so let's start with Fitness.I could have called it Health, but that doesn't start with the letter F. Also, I wanted to challenge us a bit on what that word Fitness means. Now, I realize that when most of us hear the word Fitness, we automatically disqualify ourselves. We think of all the images we've seen over the years of "FITNESS MODELS," and compare ourselves to that. But I'm gonna take this a different direction. What if we each had our own very personalized notion of what fitness is FOR US? If you don't have your health, you will have a really hard time building an empire, so let's start here.
Every day we are building empires - creating a legacy to leave behind. Whether we mean to or not, we build empires in faith, our relationships with family and friends, our level of fitness in body mind and spirit, even by having fun - and of course our finances. Most of the time we let the chips fall where they may, but what if we were more intentional about the empires we are building? Empty Nest Empires is hosted by Tami Romani, an empty nest mom and grandma with a passion for building a legacy.
