Shelley McIntyre didn't just leave corporate—she walked away from a long career in tech and consulting and into something completely unexpected: grief coaching. But as Shelley quickly discovered, grief isn't just about death—it's also what we experience when leaving jobs, identities, and entire versions of ourselves behind. In this candid conversation, Shelley shares her journey of transformation, from leading corporate strategy to coaching GenXers who feel stuck, burned out, and unsure of what's next. Brett and Shelley talk about grief, imposter syndrome (or why we need to stop calling it that), purpose as a moving target, and the creative rediscovery that often happens post-corporate.This episode is a must-listen for any GenXer wondering if they're alone in feeling “done” with corporate life—and what the other side might look like. What We Cover: • Shelley's surprising path from tech to grief coaching to GenX transition work • Why grief is at the heart of every major life and work change • The hidden cost of staying in corporate too long • How to recognize your “hell yes” moments (and why they matter) • Why imposter syndrome might just be learning in disguise • Why purpose isn't a prerequisite—it's a result of action • Creativity as a gateway to rediscovery • What Shelley listens for when helping people “deprogram” their corporate identityQuotes Worth Sharing:“All knowledge is rumor until it is in the bones.” – Shelley“We don't pathologize a kid learning math…so why do we call it imposter syndrome when we're learning something new as adults?” – Shelley“Purpose is a trailing indicator—it's not something you find on a worksheet.” – Shelley“You don't need to pick one path out of corporate. There are many. Just start walking.” – BrettConnect with Shelley:

Joe Ferrara, investment strategist at Gateway Investment Advisers, says that heightened volatility is likely here to stay as the market sorts out rapidly changing current conditions -- and says current market shocks are reminiscent in some ways of the Covid crisis or the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. He says that the current dichotomy between quantifiable potential outcomes from policies that have been announced and the non-quantifiable future and how conditions may change, making it a good time for low-volatility equity strategies. John Cole Scott, president of Closed-End Fund Advisors, returns to the show with three closed-end funds that he thinks can help investors weather the market's storms, giving his "trifecta analysis" — covering data points on discounts, yields and net asset values — on why he thinks the funds are worth a close look now. Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, looks for some safety and certainty amid the market noise, picking a classic dividend-driven fund as his ETF of the Week, and Tom McIntyre, president of McIntyre, Freedman & Flynn — the original Market Call guest — returns to the show to discuss how his news-driven process is dealing with the headlines now.
Daniel McIntyre aka Lullahush released his second album Ithaca on April 11 via Future Classic. Having collaborated with the likes of AE Mak in the past and attended the Red Bull Music Academy, Lullahush released his debut album A City Made of Water and Small Love in 2022, an ode to his home town Dublin. He's developed a complicated relationship with it, which he explores on Ithaca, having moved to Athens in recent years. From the press release: Ithaca weaves a narrative interrogating ideas of pride, home and belonging. Longing for home in exile has been widespread amongst the Irish diaspora over the years. This includes 19th-century famine refugees, 20th-century exiles fleeing the Catholic Church's oppression, those who left during the economic depression of the 1980s, and more recently, those affected by Ireland's housing crisis and Dublin's embrace of Big Tech. Daniel explores all of this as well as his own odyssey with him now living in Europe as a result of his homeland becoming “economically uninhabitable.” “I miss it, but I have a difficult relationship with it” says McIntyre. “‘Ithaca' is where Odyssus is trying to get back to in the Odyssey - my search for a sense of home since leaving has made me think about what Ithaca means. Maybe it's not a place, maybe it's a series of circumstances, maybe it's something internal, maybe it's something you carry around with you.” Lullahush supports Róis at the Workman's Club on May 1. Presented by Julie Busteed How do you define yourself? Is it by your family, the church you attend, or your job? What does it mean to be identified as a Christ-follower? We have looked at how we are made in God's image and how that defines us. We are also loved by God so deeply we can hardly grasp how wide and long and high and deep it is. And we are also chosen by him for his good purposes. We are also made for community—to be in community. And this community defines us. We were not created to live isolated lives. The first and best example is our Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are eternal and distinct, and yet they are one. Yes, not an easy concept for our minds to wrap around. But we see beginning in Genesis the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are at the creation of the world. They are in community with one another. We were not created to go it alone. A 2024 Harvard survey found 21% of adults in the U.S. feel lonely. They feel disconnected from friends and family. The data suggests it may be due to anxiety, depression and a lack of meaning and purpose.[1] Because we are made in God's image and he is One God in three persons, we are made to be not only in relationship with God but with each other. We need each other for encouragement, to love and care for one another, to be accountable to each other, to worship and praise God together. And in essence, learn about who we are—our identity. Paul also describes the body of Christ like our own body: For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others (Romans 12:4-5). We all belong to each other. When you don't show up for church or Bible study it doesn't just affect you. Your presence is missed whether you realize it or not. Showing up is huge! Let's remember each of us are a vital part of the body of Christ—it's part of who we are—for our own good and for his glory. --- [1] Batanova, M., Weissbourd, R., & McIntyre, J. (2024). (rep.). This week's Expert is Jeff McIntyre, Vice President, Liver Programs at the Global Liver Institute. His major topic is how recent high-level FDA job cuts might affect MASH drug and diagnostics development. He also shares reactions to FibroSIGHT, HistoIndex's new digital pathology service for clinical practice. Highlight: Recent job cuts at the FDA will produce chaos in government and slow response to any emerging crises.Second Highlight: Patient self-advocacy becomes even more important in this environment. The conversation takes place on April 1, which lends context to Jeff's opening comment about the rate and nature of change in Washington, DC. He and Roger quickly focus on high-level job cuts at the FDA. Jeff believes that the clearest outcome from these changes is that the government will be less able to respond promptly and in a medically appropriate manner to future health crises. Jeff agrees with former FDA Commissioner Rob Califf's comment that the FDA as we know it "is dead," and that we have little idea what the future holds. A slower-moving, more chaotic government with a Secretary of HHS who minimizes pharmacotherapies for alternative therapies presents a challenge for all SLD patients. Jeff states that patients need to become more vigilant self-advocates (even more than they are today). He also identifies patient advocacy organizations like GLI as a place patients can go to seek the guidance and support they need from patient advocates. Finally, the conversation turns to discuss FibroSIGHT. Jeff describes FibroSIGHT as "exactly where we should be and should not be at the same time," a technology that takes a significant step forward in understanding and patient support, but one that ties us to biopsy as a standard for clinical care. Jeff and Roger agree this issue will play out over the coming years.

This week, Jake and Bob welcome back Dr. Christin McIntyre, a Thomistic psychiatrist, to discuss the concept of personality disorders. They begin by defining what a personality disorder is and explore how modern culture and social norms can influence and twist this definition. Then, they discuss the interplay between inherited traits, early life experiences, and individual choices in shaping one's personality. Through the analogy of a sailboat, Dr. Christin also shares how the intellect, will, and emotions are all interconnected and why navigating the waters of healing not only involves the formation of the intellect but also the conforming of our will to God's. Key Points: A personality disorder is identified by a pervasive pattern of experience and behavior that is abnormal with respect to any two of the following: thinking, mood, personal relations, impulse control (from Dr. Cristina Lynch) Individuals with personality disorders have much hope for change Inner healing is an important aspect of addressing personality disorders Inherited traits, early life experiences, and individual choices all contribute to the development of a personality disorder Healing involves the formation of the intellect and conforming of your will to God Healing is a continuous process, not a one-time event Virtue is essential for true healing and involves habitual good choices Resources: Thomistic Institute of Psychology Connect with Restore the Glory: Instagram: @restoretheglorypodcast Twitter: @RestoreGloryPod Facebook: Restore the Glory Podcast Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! Ryder Richards discusses the evolution and degradation of the concept of "good" in moral language, referencing Nietzsche, Shell, and McIntyre. Nietzsche argues that "good" originated as a term for nobility but was inverted by the oppressed into a virtue of meekness. Shell suggests that modern morality has been corrupted by utility, aligning with capitalism and democracy. McIntyre claims that modern society suffers from moral fragmentation, rendering ethical discussions incoherent. Richards ties these ideas to Orwell's 1984, emphasizing the structural collapse of language and the futility of moral progress in modern culture wars. He concludes that the concept of "good" has lost its original meaning and is now used without clear definition.

In a world where everyone is worried about cost of living – what difference would it make to lift the wages of the lowest paid workers?Lyndy McIntyre has documented a campaign that did exactly that in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her book Power to Win documents that struggle and in this chat she explores some of the key strategies that made that campaign work.Power to Win is available:In Aotearoa through Otago University PressIn Australia from John Reed BooksIn North America from Independent Publishers GroupIn the UK and Europe from Gazelle Book ServicesFor more on ChangeMakers check us out:Via our Website - https://changemakerspodcast.org (where you can also sign up to our email list!)On Facebook, Instagram, Threads - https://www.facebook.com/ChangeMakersPodcast/On Blue Sky Social - changemakerspod.bsky.aocial & amandatattersall.bsky.socialOn X/Twitter - @changemakers99 or @amandatattsOn LinkedIn - Amanda.TattersallLiving Wage campaign in Aotearoa New Zealand:In May 2012 a new social movement was launched in Aotearoa New Zealand with the goal of lifting the wages of the lowest paid workers. It all began with the Service and Food Workers Union's mission to win back the power needed to achieve decent pay for its members after the passage of an anti-worker, anti-union law in 1991. After trying many strategies, in 2011 the union reached out to the community with an invitation to build power together to unite around the shared goal of addressing poverty wages. The outcome has been hugely successful and changed the lives of many thousands of workers and their families. In Living Wage Movement Aotearoa NZ faith groups, community organisations and unions work in partnership. These groups represent thousands of New Zealanders in organisations as diverse as Catholic social justice groups, the Māori Women's Welfare League, students associations and refugee advocacy organisations. The diversity of Living Wage Movement Aotearoa NZ is the strength of the movement and the secret of the success of the many campaigns that have won the living wage for thousands of workers — in corporates, across local and central government and in small businesses and NGOs.Read more about Living Wage Movement Aotearoa NZ here. Lee McIntyre is a Research Fellow at the Center for Philosophy and History of Science at Boston University and a Senior Advisor for Public Trust in Science at the Aspen Institute. He is the author of many books including On Disinformation and How to Talk to a Science Denier. Lee McIntyre explains how the American people are being systematically targeted in a disinformation and propaganda war by malign actors both here in the United States and from abroad with the goal of breaking reality, confusing them about the difference between facts and lies, undermining science and rational thought, and causing them to withdraw inward, abandon healthy community, and civic life and democracy. McIntyre explains the concept and practice of propaganda and disinformation, its origins, and how the American people can educate themselves so that they can effectively resist. Lee McIntyre also warns that President Donald Trump is a highly skilled and gifted propagandist and practitioner of disinformation who has no real peer or equal in recent American history – if ever. This week, Jake and Bob are joined by psychiatrist Dr. Christin McIntyre to discuss spiritual warfare and mental health. They discuss the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas on human psychology and why learning about how our minds were created to work helps us spiritually and emotionally. Dr. Christin also discusses the importance of hope in prayer, what constrains our ability to love, and the role of repentance in mental health. Key Points: Prayer is transformed when we focus on hope instead of worry When we pray with hopes, we pray for the deep desires of our hearts. Real deep desire is suffering and can feel like Purgatory on earth Fear and anger constrain the heart's ability to love Spiritual warfare principles can provide valuable insights into mental health Both physical surroundings and spiritual beings (whether angelic or demonic) affect mental health Change involves a conscious act of the will and it can take time for our emotions to “feel” the results of these acts Understanding the nature of how our minds were created as human beings helps us navigate emotional challenges and can lead to healing We must cooperate with God's grace to be transformed Resources: Mount Angel Abbey YouTube Channel Dr. Christin's Lectures on Thomistic Psychology (Part 1) (Part 2) Introduction to the Science of Mental Health by Fr.
