Quinn Slobodian teaches Modern German History at Wellesley and William Callison teaches Political Theory and Human Geography at Uppsala. We first came across their work via Naomi Klein's examination of the clusterf&cked politics that dominate the movements we cover. We dug out their paper, and they had us at this: "At the extreme end, diagonal movements share a conviction that all power is conspiracy." There no clear left-right polarity in conspirituality. And Horseshoe Theory won't cut it. We're in the age of Diagonalism, and things are very, very weird. For the month of October, applications are open for YOU to become a TFI Advocate, bridging the gap between foster care agencies and churches right in your local community. This only happens twice a year! Learn more and apply here. I love meeting others who are deeply passionate about both the foster care community and the Church. Those are two of our passions here at The Forgotten Initiative as well! Becoming a TFI Advocate starts with filling out an application. However, for each person who takes this step, the journey starts long before that, often beginning with an awareness that leads to action and a deep passion. This is a journey I get to explore with Abby Callison in today's episode. Abby is a TFI Advocate in Mason City, IA and a foster parent as well. Long before she could support the foster care community directly, she was exposed to the importance of supporting vulnerable children through a mission trip to an African orphanage and seeing foster care lived out through multiple families at her local church. In this episode, Abby reminds us of the significant role the Church can have in the foster care community, the unique circumstances that led them to become foster parents, her experience navigating the application process to become a TFI Advocate, why it is important that we identify our unique motivation, advice she would have for people interested in becoming involved, and so much more. This episode of Pod At The Park is from the September 12, when the Mets… they played the Cubs. Let's just leave it there. But the beauty of Pod At The Park is that we don't need a good game to have a good show, and this is a good one with writer and Mets Twitter stalwart Danielle Sepulveres. We know that the Mets didn't come back to win this game, but they certainly did turn things around after that series.Pete AlonsoThat's not a lot of words, so here's some more, it's a little thing I used to do on Twitter, and miss doing… going back through players' home run logs and finding their first homer, then finding the first homer that pitcher gave up, and so on, until you either reach someone whose first homer was off someone giving up their first homer, or until the 19th century. It's a fun little game to play with Baseball Reference. To bring this game here to Willets Pen, there's only one sensible guy to start.PETE ALONSO'S HOME RUN CONNECTOROff Drew Steckenrider, 4/1/19Wilmer Flores, 8/19/17Off Heath Bell, 8/11/13Damion Easley, 8/30/04Off Rick Aguilera, 9/20/92Andrew Dawson, 6/16/85Off Buzz Capra, 5/18/77Nate Colbert, 4/25/72Off Jack Billingham, 4/24/69Nate Colbert's homer was the first allowed by Jack BillinghamThis isn't just unusual because it cuts off before the beginning of Mets history, but also because of the extremely Mets tint to the whole thing. Flores, Bell, Easley, Aguilera, and Capra all spent time in Flushing. So, we'll probably see Steckenrider in Flushing before too long. Also, Billingham went on to become a steady arm for the Big Red Machine. In 1969, though, as an Astros rookie, he gave up homers to the following players, in order:Nate ColbertWillie McCoveyJohnny CallisonDick AllenRoberto ClementeRico CartyTommie AaronHenry AaronFred WhitfieldErnie BanksJim HickmanRon SlocumThat's four Hall of Famers (plus Allen, who will be eventually) out of 12 homers. Allen was a seven-time All-Star, while Colbert, Callison, Carty, and Hickman combined for nine more All-Star selections. How did Lindor get a Mark Canha Summer t-shirt? Nikki Callison grew up on 2000 acre cattle ranch with her parents and 4 brothers in Southern Oklahoma. She is a fourth generation Oklahoma rancher. She taught school in Plano Tx for 10 years before returning to Oklahoma where she met her husband Roger. They adopted 3 children all at one time and knew they wanted to raise their family on a ranch. They have a cow-calf and stocker operation. Nikki raised her family, helped on the ranch and worked as a professional photographer. When Nikki's youngest daughter graduated high school, she decided to see the family's beef direct to consumers just as her grandparents had done in the early 1970's. Nikki is the owner and operator of Callison Ranch Beef, shipping ranch-raised beef to 48 states. Last year, Nikki expanded the business by adding Callison Ranch Market, a retail location on the ranch. Nikki is a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Cattlewomen's Association and is on the Oklahoma Beef Council.Nikki loves combining her experiences as a rancher, horsewoman, photographer and teacher to share ranch life on social media outlets and at public speaking engagements. She gives agri-tourism tours of the ranch and shares rides on the prairie checking cattle with her horse Beau. On this episode I chatted with Nikki Callison about her and her husband's ranch in southern Oklahoma. Nikki grew up on a 2000 acres ranch the only girl of 4 children. Her maiden name is McCoy and if you are familiar with the McCoy name you will know she comes from a very successful family of ranchers and riders. Her parents motto was "Raisin' Kids, Cattle and Quality Horses." Nikki's husband Roger also grew up herding cattle in Oklahoma so when they started dating they dreamed of having a family and ranch of their own. Over the last 20 years they have built a life together along with expanding their herd of 20 heifers to 350+ cows. Today Nikki tells their story using social media to help spread the word and benefits of eating beef raised on the ranch. "Our cattle our grass-fed, grain-finished and ranch-raised from start to finish. There are no shortcuts. We diligently care for our cattle and the land they enjoy. We are organically minded and GMO free whenever possible. Our cattle graze wide-open fields and drink fresh water their entire lives. From our pasture to your plate, you can confidently know where your food comes from and how it was cared for." www.callisonranchbeef.com https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX6xENYRpHcuAHVQHlnCurQ www.instagram.com/callison_ranch_beef This episode is presented by the Oklahoma Hall of Fame telling Oklahoma's story through its people since 1927. We are super excited to speak with Haleigh about some major decisions she has made in her life, and what steps she took along the way. Haleigh is kind, thoughtful, intelligent, strong, and giving. She has MANY skills! One of which is her mind-blowing ability to balance in adversity. Thank you for joining us, Haleigh! Tech note: We had some audio issues in this episode. Thanks to Kylie for eliminating most of them! And thanks to listeners for being understanding! Key Takeaways: Making a huge decision will likely be uncomfortable – choosing ME can be really awkward and lead to a lot of trepidation. The struggle is REAL. When moving to something super new, it is super common to feel like more of a hindrance than a help. Be open and tell trusted people you are open to new opportunities! There are a lot of people out there who want to pay it forward. Also: Haleigh and Tara have a unique relationship: they collaborated as surrogates! A major life experience for both of them. Surrogacy sisters!

Éamon Callison, originally from Denver (elevation ~5280 ft), is finishing his PhD in Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Biology and Philosophy of Science at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by an MPhil in Human Evolutionary Studies at the University of Cambridge. His dissertation work has focused on understanding the form and function of the human chest. He is interested in how humans have evolved to breathe during sustained endurance activities, like running, and how selection has affected how we use our ribs to inhale and exhale. To answer these questions, he has measured thoracic motion in humans, dogs, and goats, examined lots of bones, measured human fossils, and worked in the Peruvian Andes (elevation ~14230 ft). Yet unleashing that broad creativity is now needed more than ever as success of teams depends on having the nimbleness of an ant farm to adapt and find their way around obstacles. Enterprise design processes, systems and ops are often tied to old top-down command/control organizational models. Design Swarms is an approach that has been used and adopted by teams within companies like Amazon, Amgen, Autodesk, Callison, Deutsche Bank, Lilly, T-Mobile, Microsoft, and REI to unleash swarm creativity at scale. About Surya: Surya Vanka is a transdisciplinary designer who has worked at the leading edge of physical and digital experiences. He is founder of Authentic Design, was president of the Seattle Design Festival, chair of Interaction Week 2019 and chair of 50th anniversary International Design Conference of IDSA. Surya was director of user experience at Microsoft, a tenured professor of design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a fellow at the prestigious Center for Advanced Study. He is creator of Design Swarms method, a light weight design technique used in business, non-profit and education worldwide. Surya won the Microsoft Engineering Best Practice Awards twice, Ohio State University 50th Anniversary Distinguished Design Alumnus Award, Microsoft Achievement Award, Accessibility Achievement Award, World Brand Congress Leadership Award and several other industry recognitions. He has been consultant to companies like Amazon, Amgen, Autodesk, Callison, Lilly, Microsoft and REI. He frequently keynotes speeches at the most prestigious conferences and has won top speaker awards three times. His work has appeared in numerous publications and news programs, including TEDx, Form, I.D., Design Council, WIRED, Interactions, the BBC and National Public Radio. Surya is the author of two books on design, several publications, and has taught design on every continent but Antarctica.

“All musculoskeletal problems will have an internal component – you just have to look for it.”Matt Callison is the King of Musculoskeletal acupuncture, and if he could meet any of the ancient acupuncture masters, he'd choose Hua Tou for his interesting take on the points. We had a very informative discussion with Matt about his own interesting work combining acupuncture and sports medicine. Matt shares some less well known methods with Hua Tou Jia Ji points, and effective ways to treat pain holistically with particular combinations of acupuncture points, motor points, shu & mu points. As acupuncturists, being able to treat pain really quickly, with a full view of the holistic picture, is going to boost our practices, and our patients' experience.
