Send us a textIn this episode, Jen and Dyana chat with Iain Ward—known to his millions of followers as The King of Chemo. His motto? "I have cancer, not excuses." Iain is an extreme athlete pushing the limits of human endurance—and time itself. He recently completed The Great World Race, running 7 marathons on 7 continents in just 7 days. Now, he's training for an even bigger challenge: running 52 miles in all 52 countries and territories of Europe, in 52 weeks. And after that? The BIG one—a full circumnavigation of the globe using only human power, all while aiming to break the world record for the most money ever raised. Why? Because he has terminal brain cancer. However, Iain refuses to let that stop him from living one hell of a life.Follow Iain on Instagram:@TheKingOfChemoContribute to Iain's GoFundMeFollow Iain on YouTube: @TheKingOfChemoFollow Iain on Twitch: @TheKingOfChemoNOTABLE TIMESTAMPS:0:00 Intro 1:46 Welcome, Iain Ward!2:55 Iain explains his "why" and embracing being the protagonist in his own film7:28 Brain cancer diagnosis9:34 Staying awake during brain surgery16:38 Finding purpose and looking ahead at life27:39 Taking on The Great World Race and the rugged landscape of Antarctica39:48 Training for The Great World Race50:07 Running 52 miles in 52 countries and territories in Europe in 52 weeks58:27 The Big One and circumnavigating the globe with pure manpower1:09:52 How to support Iain Where to find and support Bush & Banter: Follow Bush & Banter on Instagram: @bushandbanter Visit Bush & Banter's website: www.bushandbanter.com Join Bush & Banter's Patreon community: patreon.com/bushandbanter E-mail Bush & Banter: bushandbanter@gmail.com Follow Dyana on Instagram: @dyanacarmella Follow Jennifer on Instagram: @thewhimsicalwoman

The race consisted of 4 legs, from the UK to Cape Town, South Africa; to Aukland, New Zealand; to Punta del Este, Uruguay; and back to the UK.  Simon started as the navigator aboard Translated 9, and was the skipper for the last two legs. They had a great first two legs, but suffered hull damage in the third.  We talk about the boat, sailing a ketch, different sailplans, the difference between sailing solo and with crew, hank-on sails, foul-weather gear, preventers, adjustable backstays, using a jockey pole, highlights of the four legs, Marie Tabarly getting bit by a seal, a crack in the mast, surfing, running aground, taking on the role of skipper, rounding Cape Horn, a broach and knockdown resulting in a crack in the hull, the Falkland Islands, and Simon's new boat - an X 412. Discover the enlightening journey of Meghan Tschanz, the author of 'Women Rising: Learning to Listen, Reclaiming Our Voice'. Meghan takes us from her conservative evangelical upbringing to her eye-opening World Race mission trip experiences, which exposed the harsh reality of global oppression of women. Get ready to hear stories of patriarchal standards in Kenya and the sexual exploitation of women in the Philippines, and learn how Meghan found herself questioning the gender norms taught in her church community. Our discussion moves from Meghan's personal experiences to a broader exploration of biblical womanhood, gender roles, and liberation within biblical narratives. Together, we dissect the intersections of feminism and Christianity and consider how our understanding of scripture can impact our views on gender equality. Tune in as we scrutinize the damaging effects of purity culture within the evangelical church and discuss the complexities of biblical sexual ethics in the modern world.  Meghan shares her insights on how the church's complicity in historical atrocities and exclusion of individuals who support women's leadership has hindered this transformation. We look towards a future where the “People's Church” grows, with individuals leading the change, and question the power dynamics that dictate who gets to be considered a Christian. Finally, join us as we redefine success at life's end and discuss the balance between justice work and the pursuit of joy, using the Enneagram as a tool for self-understanding and embracing joy in justice work. In this episode, you will hear: Discovering the oppression of women  The struggle and importance of feminism Biblical womanhood Purity culture and women's submission Reevaluating Christian sexual ethics Change and hope in Evangelicalism Defining a successful life with joy and justice Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. Charlie Enright is the skipper of the 11th Hour Racing Team. At the time of the release of this podcast, the 11th Hour Racing team is currently in the lead. At the age of 36, Charlie has two round-the-world campaigns under his belt and over a decade-worth of experience in offshore racing. Born and raised in the maritime hub of Bristol, Rhode Island, Charlie learned to sail at a young age and went on to join his college sailing team at Brown University. This is his 3rd World Race as Skipper. In this episode, Enright explains the process of racing around the world, and what goes into it. He explains how they use radar and sonar to see where the other boats are, and how they sleep in shifts. They also explain how they eat over the days, and no, Twinkies are not used. Good luck to the 11th Hour Racing Team to finish the Ocean Race in the lead!

Cookies for MinistryShe grew up in the southern shadows of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and if you carefully listen to Morgan Rubosky, you can still hear some of her lifelong Pittsburghese language spill out in a conversation. As an introvert, Morgan always imagined she'd stay close to home for her college education, but when she heard about Cedarville University — located four hours from her Pleasant Hills Borough home — she immediately felt at peace about calling it home. Then, after one visit to campus with her mom, she knew this was God's choice for her.Four years later, Morgan graduated with a degree in youth ministry, and her life has since been filled with ministry opportunities in the most unusual ways.First, she embarked on the biggest adventure of her life – The World Race, an 11-month missions program that covered 11 different countries. She didn't know any of her ministry companions until a 10-day training camp leading up to the race. She experienced life in the most primitive ways as she journeyed through South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Chile sharing the Gospel. American conveniences were traded for living out of a backpack and washing her clothes by hand.Life didn't get any easier when she returned to the United States at the end of November 2019, just months before COVID shut down the world. For the world traveler, being confined to her personal residence was tough. COVID was as much a culture shock to Morgan as her 11-month, 11-country ministry. So, with her family's cookie business on the doorstep of closing, Morgan decided to take over the business, change the name, and use it to continue her support of missions. Morgan uses her business, Church Street Cookies, to minister to college students, support missionaries, and encourage ministries with her excess funds from cookie sales. And, with a storefront business in the heart of Cedarville, business is thriving, and the Gospel is going forward. Listen to hear Morgan share her story on the Cedarville Stories Podcast.
