Hello Healers, thank you for joining me on this special podcasting series, Trauma & 12 Steps. After being a member of AA for 8 years now, a member of Al-anon,, recovering from trauma, and starting a career as a somatic therapy facilitator and trauma- informed educator and coach, it was only a natural progression for me to want to connect all the dots of my personal and professional experience. 12 Step programs are the foundation of my life today, they give movement, purpose, and power into every other avenue of my life. I feel from my experience in these rooms, we are not emphasizing the impacts of trauma or connecting it properly with the beautiful language within our literature. It is my goal to help individuals who have felt disempowered in these rooms to get more out of or literature with the help of my perspective and interpretation of our literature from a trauma-informed perspective. In this episode, my goal is to empower the listener to understanding why setting interpersonal boundaries is always about us rebuilding trust and connect with ourselves. Usually we start to come up against the idea of setting boundaries when we start to heal, realizing we have been showing up in certain relationships our of fear and manipulation, in order to receive a false sense of connection and comfort from them. Boundaries are about us showing up authentically and releasing attachments to whether others have the capacity to engage in our way of authentic connection. The more we honor our truth and how we would like to show up, the more space we create for healthy relationships that support our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
On this episode, I get vulnerable, raw and honest as I share my story, as it would be told in the rooms of 12 step recovery programs. In honor of my 7 year sober anniversary, I wanted to use my platform to invite my listeners to know me on a deeper and more personal level. I talk a lot about trauma, healing, and personal development and so I wanted to share truly what has led me down this path and in this line of work. It is my hope always to inspire others and help them cultivate the courage to embark on their own personal healing journey. Healing and recovery is terrifying because it asks us to be an active participant, I'm here to show you it is possible. Please if you are struggling with addiction, know there is always hope and a life beyond your wildest dream. a life of complete freedom. Follow me on IG @feeltheheal.withdacey
On todays episode, I dive into another way of connecting my listeners to trauma. I define and clarify what it actually means when I'M using this word. Trauma fundamentally has everything to do with our bodies, with our nervous systems, and the current ways of how we are experiencing ourselves. We live in a toxic culture where we are conditioned to abandon the needs of our body and put emphasis on our cognitive functions. While the mind plays an important role in our survival and well being, it can also limit us when we only try to approach knowing ourselves from the mind. We are multidimension beings so healing and understanding our needs, also needs to be multidimensional. Today I discuss how to cultivate an awareness of our bodies. Healing and developing a trauma-informed perspective is about holding space for a conscious, felt experience of ourselves. When we start to hold space to have new experiences of ourselves, experiences in which we are cultivating safety our bodies , we begin to access our personal power. We start to become an active participant in the way we experience ourselves through out the day and this is what will create pause and space to start responding to life differently. We will begin to access opportunities to make conscious choices for ourselves and our needs that are not rigid or forced but in alignment with our current nature. Its about meeting ourselves where we are at and building from there. As we start this process we can see that we are not our behaviors but our behaviors are a reflection of our awareness of self. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
PROFOUND. You will hear me use this word many times throughout this episode. Trauma-informed yoga is a profound practice of healing and unifying the mind, body, and spirit, while integrating it into its environment and the energy of the space it is in. I have been working in treatment centers as a trauma-informed yoga instructor just under a year now, I have learned so much about this transformative practice in such a short amount of time. After healing through my own trauma with yoga, I was catapulted into a life of passionately sharing this healing modality with others. In todays world we are all suffering from dysregulation in our bodies in someway or another. We are constantly divided, mind in one place and body in another. Running on autopilot all day, some go through the day without taking a single conscious breath. On todays episode, I share passionately about all the things I use in my treatment center groups while teaching yoga. I believe wholeheartedly there is something to be taken away from this for everyone out there. Let me know what you think! OM GAM GANAPATAYE NAMAHA Join me in reciting this powerful mantra 108x. Chanting as a form of meditation is a powerful healing modality- physically, mentally, and spiritually. This particular mantra is a regular part of my personal meditation practice as I have experienced deeply transformative effects. This mantra translates to "I bow down (I offer my salutations), to the remover of obstacles." This mantra has brought about so much positive change in my life and removed the obstacles that keep me from living in my most authentic expression. I invite you to try it for yourself to decide if it resonates for you. In times of radical change and uncertainty, we can find ourselves feeling extremely out of control. The ego will be triggered and the parts of ourselves that we have spent so much time and practice healing may begin to surface once again. There is no mistake in the shifts that occur in our lives, they are all divinely guided. How can we embody this truth and trust the process of change and the path into the unknown. WE have to be an active participant in our growth through uncertainty. As predictable sources of security are stripped from us, the ego confronts Spirit once again. Radical change calls for radical reliance on what God has planned for us. We can suffer through change by feeding into the egos need for control or we can FLOW. With a steady balance between effort and ease we can tune into a new way of being and on the other side of this uncertainty a new path will be made clear. Before long, we will know ourselves like never before and we will have a new found sense of freedom. These are the promises of change if we keep ego out of the way. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
After denying my own traumatic experiences for many years, my body eventually gave me no choice but commit to a journey of healing. Many seemingly "common" life experiences left imprints of pain and overwhelming stress in my body. I talk about trauma a lot. I see the world from a trauma-informed perspective. After years working with recovering addicts and individuals suffering from mental health struggles I have learned that some level of trauma is at the root of it all. Individuals who grew up in loving homes, very privileged lives can still suffer from trauma. As this journey of feel the heal continues - I wanted to start of with a simple explanation of trauma and put this word into context for my listeners as it is often very misunderstood. On todays episode, I share my personal story and experience of being diagnosed with ADHD/ADD at young age. I discuss the internal experience I had with that diagnosis and the identity I developed around it. Have you ever been diagnosed or taken on an identity that made you feel temporarily empowered but later left you feeling more incomplete and disconnected from power? In my personal experience with this, I share how I learned how to discern my own truth and honor it, even if it went against the typical mold or popular belief systems. Today I am free of any "diagnosis" that tries to label me or make me fit a mold. I believe in healing and wellness which does not limit me to one way of being physically, mentally, spiritually, or emotionally. I have a strong belief and faith in our capacity to change and overcome limiting beliefs, even if it is a diagnosis label placed on us. Today, I am the only person that can place a label on myself and I try to avoid doing that. LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINO BHAVANTU May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all. Join me as we recite this mantra 108x, in a meditation practice. According to Ayurveda we have 108 vital points of life force in our body (marma points). In Vedic Astrology there are 9 planets revolve around 12 constellations that bring our 108 kinds of change. The average distance between the Earth and the Sun is 108x the diameter of the Sun. The average distance between the Earth and the Moon is 108x the diameter of the Moon. The list goes on... energetically and spiritually reciting a mantra 108x is a very sacred practice and can have very transformative effects. Don't take it from me, try it for yourself! I invite you to join me! This mantra comes s a reminder that we are responsible for our actions, our karma, karma translates to action. The freedom and happiness of others is the freedom and happiness for ourselves. This mantra offers a beautiful practice to tune into ourselves and the collective to take accountability for our actions and seek that they may contribute the happiness and freedom for all. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Welcome back Healers, This weeks episode follows our discussions from episodes 002 and 003 as we dive into the depths of the unconscious mind and introduce ourselves to the shadow self. Here we learn how to identify our shadow self, the unseen parts of ourselves that we have denied and repressed leaving ourselves feeling disempowered and disconnected from our authentic expression. Feel the Heal is all about embodying your authentic expression and living a life feeling fully alive and empowered, shadow work is just a part of the healing process. Introduced to the west in the work of Carl Jung, in Jungian psychology, I discuss a lot of his concepts of shadow work. I scratch the surface of deeper ideas and spiritual understandings of the shadow self and unconscious mind. Follow me on IG @feeltheheal.withdacey Like. Comment. Share.
