The Graceland Moments Podcast was created to provide another avenue that will nourish our souls as believers in this difficult season. This is an opportunity to connect and hear the hearts of our leaders off the stage in an effort to gain the godly wisdom
Jenny Brown and Dillon Baker sit down to talk about some of the highlights from season 3! It has been a pleasure working on this season and we will be taking a break for the summer. Tell us what were some of your favorite parts of this season in the comments below!!
War is evil. The sins of the world still lay at our footsteps and sometimes it's hard not to get angry at the death and destruction that evil brings. But how, as Christians, can we approach these evils in a way that is righteous anger and Biblically grounded. Pastor Larry Riley helps us navigate through that answer!
Distractions, distractions, distractions. They are EVERYWHERE. The life of a Christian is simply to die to oneself and pick up your cross daily, but how can one do that if they are constantly distracted by the things of this world. Today we sit down with our newly announced Student Minister, Justin Herron, and Jacob Bratcher who is over our Upton Youth Collective center to talk about a world of distractions. How can we fight these things and how can we help our students develop good habits towards these external distractions?
As Christians, we go through many different seasons in our personal faith. Paul tells us that we must run the race set before us and do it in a way that glorifies the Lord in each season. But how do we run the race well? Pastor Nate gives us some helpful tips on how to pursue the Christian life in a wholesome and winsome manner that keeps our eyes focused on Jesus, even in the hard seasons.
Pastor Ryan Brown and Jenny sit down with us to talk about the most important relationship on this side of heaven, our marriages! With the hustle and bustle of this world and all the distractions that can come, finding healthy ways to communicate and partner with one another is essential. The Browns give us some great advice on how to establish better habits in your marriage. Listen in!
Social Media isn't going anywhere. For the upcoming generations, social media is going to be engrained in their lives so to ignore it might mean missing an entire generation. Thankfully, Graceland understands this and we are on a mission to share the Gospel through our influence on social media to provide the light of the Gospel to the upcoming generations!
Campus Minister, Timothy Bitz joins us on the podcast this week to share his heart on leading and shepherding our Graceland Palmyra Campus. It is amazing to see the family of Graceland expanding and seeing people hear about the name of Jesus. Listen in to see what God is doing in and through our Church family. Ministry Partner: Kolkin Café Thanks, Kolkin coffee :)
Korinne NesSmith has attended Graceland for over 20 years! She has gained great insight into the church in that time and is now using her gifts to serve the Church in her new role as Executive Director of Membership. Korinne talks to us about her time at Graceland along with her heart to meet people where they are so that she can help them with their next step here at Graceland! Ministry Partner of the Week: Southern Indiana Local Real Estate Experts / Mike Schoonover 812living@gmail.com
How much do you think about the music you are listening to? The lyrics or even the meanings behind the songs? Sometimes we can get caught up in the busyness of life and begin to consume a bunch of media that is taking our hearts away from the truths of God and interjecting evil into our thoughts! Michael Loy challenges us to be a little bit more intentional about the things we consume and how beneficial it is to listen to Biblical truths in our music. Ministry Partner: Immersion Music School https://www.immersionmusicschool.com/
The Bible is the greatest tool that has ever been gifted to humanity. It is impossible for a Christian to function and live out the life that is pleasing to God without his Holy scripture. Pastor Nate talks to us about the importance of a congregation opening and studying God's word in detail.
"We exist to see lives transformed in the neighborhoods, the generations, and the NATIONS through Jesus Christ." Graceland is on mission for those in our local communities but also for those around the world. Larry Riley talks us through his new role and what our plan is for outreach in the upcoming years!
"In order for your church to grow large, you must learn how to grow small." It is amazing to see our church continue to grow in spiritual maturity and in members on a Sunday morning but with this size of a church, it's very easy to get lost in the crowd. We want to be a healthy growing church and that happens with intentional life-on-life with other Christians. This is best displayed in Community Groups. David Gantenbein sits down with s to give us updates and the future vision of Graceland Community Groups! Ministry Partner: The Marriage Experience http://the-marriage-experience.com/?page_id=13 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09G6WPMCX
We have a lot of new things happening this season and we are excited to share them with you! We start out this season with Pastor NathanLauren Millican as he opens up about three convictions for his first year as Lead Pastor. It's a great episode, hope you enjoy it. Ministry Partner: Baker Film Company https://www.bakerfilmcompany.com/
Today was a special day in Graceland Moments history because we got to sit down with a live studio audience. This content is made for the members of our church and it was a great experience for us to see the faces of our members while making this episode. In this episode, we are with the Graceland Students and we asked students what some of their biggest questions are when it comes to our faith. Pastor NathanLauren Millican and Jenny May Brown took on some of those questions and they are great questions for any believer. Hope you enjoy this episode and we will see you at the start of 2022!!
We are finishing up a series on parenting with Robert Headrick who talks to us about middle schoolers. This is a tough age for those going through it and poses unique challenges for those parenting kids in the age group. Robert has leaned into this age group and has found success in navigating through his own parenting and volunteering in the middle school ministry at Graceland. Enjoy this last episode in our parenting series.
Our kids are now 18, we are finished!! Not quite. Parenting is a life-long commitment and it might not look the same as their adolescence, but still parenting nonetheless. We don't talk about this reality as much but today Marty and Camilla Baker talk about what it looks like to parent their boys in adulthood.
Many would say the hardest part about being a parent is staying consistent the entire way through the adolescence of your children. Keeping up with routines, punishments, upholding expectations, etc. Especially in the times that you are exhausted or schedule changes occur. But Pastor Larry gives us some words of encouragement that about this and instills that consistency comes from establishing core family values first.
Do you ever feel like you're failing as a parent? I'm sure everyone in the world feels like that at some point. The responsibility of parenting can be overwhelming but Wes Fleming gives us great encouragement on how to properly nourish our hearts back to the Gospel. There is grace in parenting and we will mess up sometimes, but that doesn't mean we are failures! Enjoy this episode with Wes.
We have heard the negative effects that social media can bring to our own lives and to the lives of our children. But the simple fact is that it's not going anywhere. Aatiqah has taken the idea of social media and flipped it on its head. It's not about projecting us, it's about projecting God. She uses her social media platforms to give God the glory and encourage the youth to continue to walk in the Faith of Jesus Christ. Aatiqah sits down with Jenny to talk about how her social media success happened and the heart God has given her to reach the world through these apps. Social Media Apps: TikTok: uhteakuh Instagram: uhteakuh Facebook: Aatiqah Wright
Did you know that Graceland has written and produced two new songs?? If not, you may be a little behind! God has blessed our church with great creative minds and we are now seeing ways that God is going to use that creativity to produce music from within Graceland's walls. Pastor Ryan Brown talks us through the vision for Graceland Worship and the heart behind the new songs as well as the songs to come! Enjoy this talk with Ryan and Jenny. Worship Night!!! November 7th
Now that we are rounding the end of this pandemic, we wanted to sit down and talk to Justin Herron about how our students are doing. How are they doing mentally, spiritually, and what is our vision for the Student Ministry going into 2022. We get to talk about all that on today's Podcast
Today we are wrapping up our mental health series with Pastor Larry Riley. We talk about this deep sadness that has struck our world due to the current pandemic. As Christians we will experience a broad range of emotions but because of the hope we have in Christ, we don't have to stay in that state. Hope you enjoyed the mental health series!
We are continuing in our Mental Health series but in this episode, we get a little bit of a different perspective. Pastor Nate joins us and makes it clear that he is not a doctor or health professional, but he is the shepherd over our church's soul. What does the Bible say about our depression and anxiety? Even more important, how does it instruct us to overcome these mental illnesses? Listen to this episode to hear the wisdom from Pastor Nate!
Did you know that we are all natural-born sinners that fall short of the holiness of God? Shocker, right? We hear this Gospel message and sometimes it becomes too familiar to us but we forget to believe it. Well, this truth is present in our family households and it plays a big role in the way you understand the world. Your family has a vital influence on how you handle stress, anxiety, your perception of God, dedication to holiness, and much more. Mental Health starts with the roots and your roots start with your family. Bethel Bumanglag comes on the podcast to better understand this concept.
We are heading into our new series that is focusing on Mental Health. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be hearing from local Soul Care Counselors and Pastors as we touch on some important things pertaining to mental health. On this podcast, Jenny will be talking to one of our Soul Care Interns, Christian Halbert, as we break down what Soul Care is and the stigmas that come with seeking help with our mental health. If you need to contact anyone to get connected to our Soul Care team or any other Mental Health resources, emails will be listed below. God has been extremely gracious to the Graceland family. Very few churches have got to see a pastor transition that has gone this smoothly and we are blessed to be a part of a church that is unified. We have heard Pastors and Elders talk on stage about the process of this transition but in this podcast, we will be focused on the Heart of these two men as they work alongside one another to do what is best for the congregation.
On this podcast, we sit down with our new worship leader Ryan Brown and speak about his new role at the church. Ryan will continue to be the Pastor of Gatherings and also lead the Sunday morning worship. Jenny and Ryan talk about the heart for leading worship and the road God led him through to get to this position.
At one time or another, you have most likely been in a stage of singleness. We come into this stage of life for many different reasons but having the right perspective while being in it is crucial to your walk with Jesus. Kathie Poe joins us on the podcast to talk about healthy Christian singleness and what the church can do to help this big portion of our congregation! We will be taking a short break for the month of June and July! the month of May will begin our wrap-up for the first season. So grateful for you guys and your support.
COVID changed the way most churches did things for the past year. Now that we are beginning to see things go back to normal, what's next? Paul Riley, Director of Communications at Graceland comes back on the podcast to give us an update about the current vision of the church when it comes to using technology to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Social media is a great resource that has complimented our lives in ways we never thought were possible. Connects us with people all around the world, keeps us updated with organizations we care about (like the church), and educates us about things we are interested in. But with this great power comes great responsibility. This tool can be extremely addictive. Today we talk about using social media wisely.
"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world." James 1:27 Mike Schoonover and Molly Creel join us on the podcast to talk about the complicated yet beautiful process of adoption. They help us to clear up some details about the process itself and share their personal experience with adoption.
Spiritual corruption is hard to identify and easy to cover up. After being a Christian for long enough you soon start to figure out the how to speak the right language and put on the right masks. Keeping secrets is something some of us are incredibly good at but what we don't understand is how much it's destroying us internally. It produces shame and guilt that causes you to retreat from the body of Christ. Pastor Nate guides us through a biblical view of Secret Keeping.
Easter has been practiced by the church for as far back as we can accurately account. It is an event that helps us remember the single most important week in human history. But when it comes to something that has been practiced for two-thousand years, sadly some of the meaning and symbols get lost in translation. Pastor Larry helps us discover some of the roots of Easter and explains the origins behind some of our most common practices.
To reach the next generation, we must leave the physical church. Student Minister, Caleb Creel talks to us about the trends we are seeing in younger generations that are not being raised in the local church. Therefore, we must go to them! Did you know that we are sinners? Shocker, I know. As Christians, we wouldn't deny that the fact that we all fall short, but as long as we are staying away from those "Big" sins then we are good! Right? Not exactly. God calls us to constantly pursue holiness in order that we may show the world the character of Jesus. The little sins that we tend to neglect can be termed "Respectable Sins." Envy is one of them. Facebook Group: Graceland Moments Podcast Email: gracelandmoments@gmail.com Website: Gracelandchurch.online
In this episode, we will hear Caleb Creel and Tim Bitz explain what it means to be a good friend to both Christians and the world. We are lucky because we have the perfect example of what it means to be a good friend, through Jesus Christ. Sometimes being on mission doesn't mean you have to go to a new place. Sometimes the best mission field is the one God has placed you in right now.
In a world that has almost 8 billion people, social psychologists say that the human race has never felt more alone. Loneliness has become an epidemic in the American culture and the church has a good cure. Our souls belong to God and we have unity with him forever. Bethel, Soul Care Director of Graceland, walks us through her role here at the church and talks about loneliness in our society. Email: bbumanglag@gracelandbaptist.org Website: https://www.gracelandchurch.online/soul-care
Dating is a young man's game, right? Nope! Jesus says that our marriage is a direct representation of the relationship that He has with the Church. Thanks be to God, He has never stopped pursuing the Church. We should always be striving towards a marriage that is growing. Pastor Ryan and Jenny sit down to talk about ways to intentionally pursue your spouse.
Being a parent in any capacity is a difficult job, but raising up 5 kids in the way they should go, that's just a miracle. Matt Lowe, long time dedicated member of Graceland talks us through his experiences raising four girls and gives us some christ-centered encouragement on sticking close to the bible when bringing up our kids.
Eighteen years of a person's life sounds like a long time, but when we begin to break down how fast that time goes, it might shock you. As a parent, you have 936 Sundays with your kids before they turn 18 and every single one of them can play a factor in what they deem is important in the long-run. Caleb Creel, our student minister talks to us about the importance of making God the priority and how to send intentional messages to your kids about the Church.
Inauguration Day has been a tradition since the first President in 1789. A tradition that is normally marked with hope and excitement for the future of our great nation, but this one is undoubtedly different. For the people of God, we must not play into the hands of political jargon but stand firm as our hope lies in something much greater than a President or nation. Pastor Larry helps us to navigate these political pressures and encourages us to seek God, not a political party.
Rose Condra, Executive Director of Choices, discusses abortion and ways Christians can navigate this difficult subject. She shares biblical perspectives on abortion and tells us about the local abortion ministry that helps women and men with resources and education about child development.
Churches all over the world have had to make some significant shifts in the year of COVID and we have all felt the impact. But what does the church look like going forward in the long-term future? What is the new normal? Paul Riley, Director of Communications talks through some of the changes that we have gone through and what Graceland should expect in the future.
This year has been something. All the things we wanted to accomplish or places we wanted to go came to a scretching holt. Who knows how long this will last but the only thing that can make 2021 better is the drive inside of yourself. Goal setting is extrememly important because it gives us something to strive towards. In this podcast we talk about why goal setting is important and beneficial ways we can go about acheiveing those goals.
Any form of confrontation can be intimidating, but at times it can be necessary. Truly loving those around us means directing them back to Jesus and sometimes that means addressing sin in one another's lives. This is a responsibility we have as Christians, but we must understand how to do this correctly. In this episode, we are going to talk about how to have tough conversations but also do it with humility and kindness.
"I'm going to start working more out.""I'm done eating out, I want to pack my lunch.""I want to read 20 books this year." These are statements we can all relate to but we soon fall short on these aspirations a week later. But why can't we commit to these goals? Because goals that are fostered from the wrong motives will soon be justified with crafty excuses. Caleb Creel walks us through creating change in a way that is fostered from the heart and propelled by the power of the Holy Spirit.
