“Send Coach John a message”Well, the final piece is here. “Be flexible.” Changing our habits is not easy, it's hard work. But having a little flexibility sure can help us make the changes that will work for us. Love this quote from the poet John Dryden - “We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” If we are a bit more flexible, we can help ourselves find out what works for us. It's part of the journey of finding out how to connect a bit better with our new habits. I must admit for myself that anytime I can be a bit more flexible in life, things go a bit better compared to if I'm not flexible. It's good advice for many things in life.   Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

Send us a textThis one is something that I've been picking up more on as I get older (because I need it) “Focus on adding good habits, not breaking bad habits.”  When we focus on the positive things we want to do or create, instead of what we want to get rid of - it becomes a lot easier to keep the good ones going. Plus, we will see that the bad habits are simply going to be less and less of an impact on our lives. I need to connect with this one for sure. It's on my to-do list. Good stuff all the time connecting to Coach Wooden's teachings. **

Send us a textThis one I know will help me as I know I need to “Focus on one habit at a time.” I usually focus on many things at once and really none of them get accomplished. If they do, it takes a long time and probably it's not done as well as if I focused on just that. It's the same principle of focusing on small, simple things - uncomplicating it from becoming too large or too many. We can build many new habits if we focus on one at a time. Love this quote from the book on this one - “It's easy to keep adding one new habit at a time, but it's almost impossible to focus on many new habits at once.” That is something for me to zero in on me for sure. **

Send us a textAs I record this one - “Post a reminder of your commitment to your new, healthy habit”, I know I need to go do this. I need to have little written notes set for myself. I have one in my daily devotional book, which I read every day. I love what Sam Crowley says - “writing is the doing part of thinking.” I sure do think a lot. It's time for me to “do” more with my thinking. It's always about taking action and these little postings - remember, they are in my own writing - they are to myself! Nobody else sees them. It's me to me. Simple for all of us to do - but only if we actually do it does it become simple. I need to commit to this and I will do it.  Hope you find this one good for you too. **

Send us a textContinuing on with this awesome list of life-changing mindset areas for having more healthy habits… the third one is this: “Practice that habit faithfully and repeatedly.” Coach Wooden mentions trying to have our good habit scheduled for the same time every day.  The more faithfully we repeat an action, the easier it becomes for that action to become a habit. Over time, then it becomes more difficult to break the good habit. I need to keep this one close to my heart and also on my daily calendar in order to keep getting better.  Good stuff to focus on for me. **

Send us a textFor the second part of this series, Coach John Wooden reminds us “when you set too challenging a goal, you set yourself up for failure.” Again, it's the small changes that are key. This is not saying to not have BIG goals and plans, but… keep in mind the process (the little steps) to get there.  Little steps help us to keep the good habits going for a longer period of our lives. Keep working. Keep believing.  New one coming at you tomorrow.

Send us a textFound another series to share for you. When I ran across this from the book: “Coach Wooden's Greatest Secret: The Power of a Lot of Little Things Done Well”, by Pat Williams with Jim Denney. It's all about building healthy habits.  Find a link for the book HERE. (you can find it in many different places)  It starts off by reminding us that the best way to replace a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.  These  eight parts remind us that it's tough to try and simply get rid of a bad habit by willpower alone.  What I'm sharing with you starting today is all about principles to keep in mind as we replace unhealthy habits with good habits.  The first is to focus on little things.  Instead of making huge changes in our lives, find small manageable tasks to focus on that lead us to the changes we want. I have always looked ahead a bit too much to the ending that I want. Then it becomes difficult, challenging and frustrating because my focus is not on the first step I need to take, but what's at the finish line. The more I read these, the more fired up I got. I hope this happens to you as well during the next few episodes.

What You'll Learn Why hopping from one workout to another keeps you stuck. How to embrace “boring” habits that bring lasting strength and energy. The truth about muscle confusion, diet trends, and fast fixes. Why faith and discipline go hand-in-hand in both fitness and spiritual growth. How doing the same simple things—lifting, praying, eating balanced meals—leads to the results you've been praying for. For the Christian Woman Searching… Whether you're Googling “why I'm not losing weight even though I work out” or asking ChatGPT “how to stay motivated in fitness as a mom,” this episode gives you a grace-filled, practical answer: Stop chasing motivation. Start mastering the mundane. When you train your body with consistency and your spirit with faith, results follow—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Episode Takeaway The boring basics aren't punishment—they're peace. When you choose simple over shiny and consistency over chaos, you create the rhythm that real transformation grows from.
