SHADOW WORK AS DANCERS | Ep. 7 - Sahteen

Sahteen is a fusion dancer based in Bordeaux, France. After being part of La Luna del Oriente for six years in Dijon, her hometown, she began studying fusion dance in 2012. She studied with Angélique Julia in Bordeaux and was part of her troupe Ausatinrouge until 2018. After being part of 2016's professional track at Tribal Umrah Festival in Viareggio, Sahteen felt further inspired to dive into her development as a fusion dancer. Being directed by Rachel Brice for a week and studying with highly qualified dancers made her hungry for more knowledge. That's how she got to study with Alexis Southall, the Orchidaceae tribe, and more recently, Kami Liddle. Aesthetically, Sahteen is inspired by the gracefulness and sensuality of MENAHT dances, but also by the boldness and high energy of house dance and dancehall. In this episode we unpack doing shadow work as dancers, including decolonization of our language within MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, and Turkish) dance. We also dived into development of self within this style of dance and Sahteen's self-empowerment by connecting with Black and POC dancers around the world. Dancers mentioned in this podcast include Ebony, Sadira, and Alexis Southall. CONSENT AND BOUNDARIES | Ep. 6 - Sydney Jones

As a person that works with bodies on a daily basis, this topic that frequents my mind, we're going to talk about CONSENT AND BOUNDARIES with my friend Sydney Jones. Sydney is a long time practitioner of yoga, a lifelong dancer, a healer and a Pro Dominatrix. Goddess Sydney is a natural born dominant, who has been a lifestyle BDSM Fetishist for the better part of 20 years, and a professional Domme for 7 of those years. In this episode we'll be discussing how her background as a holistic health professional, reiki practitioner and movement student shaped her pathway as a lifestyle and Professional Dominatrix. She believes that BDSM is in its nature highly spiritual and that her experiences in both yoga and BDSM can inform each other in the most natural and serendipitous ways. "I am a statuesque Cherokee and Sicilian Goddess, with exquisite features that deserve worship and admiration. With a sensual heart and a sadistic mind, I embody dominance, power, and grace as is only natural. A true cunning woman, I will overwhelm you, bringing you to your knees with as little as a glance. I've always been aware of My dominant and powerful energy, and learning the skills of Female Domination made Me a true master of tease and denial. Intrinsically a Temptress, I will captivate your every breath and reveal how deeply you crave to submit to My desires. The journey I take you on will change your perception and way of being, as you oscillate between the pain and pleasure I give to you. I live for Power Exchange, and enjoy watching your desperation as I endlessly taunt, humiliate, and deny you, exposing your carnal desires. Psychologically dominating, I will make a game of accessing the deepest recesses of your mind and place Myself inside, making it impossible for you to forget Me." Humor me real quick, imagine talking to a fellow female coworker about menstruation and masterbation, and then getting fired for it. That's just one part of this episode. Today we are talking about the problematic behemoth that is COREPOWER YOGA, with a very special guest, Erica Jacobs. Erica is a movement teacher, writer and a meaning maker in Los Angeles with a knack for taking everything personally and dancing like everyone is watching. As a survivor or sexual, verbal, psychological and emotional abuse, Erica has explored the deeper layers of trauma through the lens of Eating Psychology, 12-Step Recovery and Anti-Racism, all in an effort to discover what “hurt people hurt people” truly means on a cultural, historical and interpersonal level. An extroverted introvert, Erica can usually be found taking a mid-day long drive along the California Coast, armed with a great playlist and an even greater desire for truth, connection, sushi and plenty of alone time.
