    Rachel Lance, PhD is the author of In the Waves: My Quest to Solve the Mystery of a Civil War Submarine, a book about the blast science required to solve one of the Civil War's most enduring mysteries. Dr. Lance is a biomedical engineer and blast-injury specialist, as well as Assistant Consulting Professor at Duke University where she conducts research regarding human survival in extreme environments out of the Hyperbaric Medicine facility.
