On today's program, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission—the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention—fired its president Brent Leatherwood this week…then less than 12 hours later reversed course and said he was NOT fired. We'll have details. Also, Life Surge wealth conferences draw big audiences with its celebrity speaker lineup and wealth-building tools…we're taking a closer look to see if it's delivering on its promises. And, New York Theological Seminary closed its doors earlier this month—famous alumni include religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and author of the Message, Eugene Peterson. But first, the historic sanctuary of First Baptist Dallas, was engulfed in flames last week. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Bob Smietana, John Stonestreet, Timothy Padgett, Kim Roberts, Aaron Earls, Brittany Smith, and Christina Darnell. A special thanks to Breakpoint and Lifeway Research for contributing material for this week's podcast. Until next time, may God bless you.
Travis Hilton, pastor of Crystal Spring Baptist Church, joined us for a great conversation concerning the recent happenings and events surrounding the Southern Baptist Convention. **However, we must add that upon the completion of this episode, news broke that the ERLC of the SBC had retracted the statement which Travis and Jeremiah discuss in this podcast. On the morning of July 23rd the ERLC Executive Committee and Board of Trustees released a statement that Brent Leatherwood had not been removed from his position and that, if fact, Kevin Smith had resigned as Chair of the Executive Committee. Leatherwood remains the President of the ERLC as they continue to navigate this interesting turn of events. Our apologies for any confusion due to the timing of this episode and the situation at the ERLC.***

Walker was signed to a two-year, $4.2-million deal in March. However, he struggled throughout the course of training camp while Tyson Bagent, an undrafted rookie out of Division II Shepherd University, emerged when given the opportunity. A first-round pick of the Raiders in 2020, Leatherwood was claimed by the Bears off waivers last September. He played in four games for Chicago last season.
