The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee break down host Clemson's draw in an NCAA baseball regional. Topics include: Clemson's offense gets on base throughout the lineup, with potential MLB first-round center fielder Cam Cannarella providing a dynamic presence in center field, Dominic Listi (.506 OBP) making for the lineup's toughest out, and Jacob Jarrell (15 HR) and Collin Priest (12) providing power. Workhorse right-hander Aidan Knaak and ace relievers Lucas Mahlstedt, Jacob McGovern and Reed Garris giving the Tigers aces on the mound. West Virginia was the Big 12's regular-season champion, but faded late in the season. Outfielder Kyle West (.354/500/.628, 10 HR) led a balanced offense that stole 105 bases. Griffin Kirn, Jack Kartsonas and Reese Bassinger give the Mountaineers a trio of durable, effective pitchers that give WVU a shot to advance. Kentucky played nearly everyone competitively and even took a series at Tennessee. The Wildcats' back-end bullpen troubles prevented a better record, but coach Nick Mingione is one of the best on the business and gets a lot out of a lineup that bunts, runs and puts pressure on defenses. Left fielder Cole Hage is a standout, shortstop Tyler Bell turned down Big League money to come to campus and starred as a freshman this year, and weekend starters Nic McCay's experience and crafty lefty-hander Ben Cleaver make the Wildcats a tough out. South Carolina Upstate is one of the tournament's toughest four-seeds, thanks to an offense that hit .319/.422/.530, with slugger Scott Newman (18 HR) leading the way. Ace Amp Phillips makes the Spartans a threat to pull an upset against one of the three Power 4 teams in the regional.

Chris Lee and Alfred Ezman preview the Nashville Regional, where host Vanderbilt was the country's overall No. 1 seed. Topics include: The host Commodores may have the deepest pitching staff in the country. It's headlined by lefty JD Thompson, righties Cody Bowker and Connor Fennell and a big-time, back-end arm in right-hander Sawyer Hawks. The Commodores are one of the country's best defensive teams, and talented hitters RJ Austin, Brodie Johnston, Braden Holcomb, Rustan Rigdon and Riley Nelson came on late as Vanderbilt came out of nowhere to get the tournament's top seed. Perennial rival Louisville could push the Commodores. Coach Dan McDonnell's pitching staff has struggled at times, but Patrick Forbes and Tucker Biven are talented and could help Louisville push anyone in the regional. Center fielder Lucas Moore (.470 OBP, 43 steals) is a sparkplug at the top of the lineup and the Cardinals have power from Eddie King Jr. (14 HR), Tague Davis (18) and Zion Rose (11). East Tennessee State travels west to face Vanderbilt for the first time this year; the Buccaneers knocked off Tennessee for the Vols' first loss this year and have the talent to do damage. ETSU mashed 116 home runs, with Cooper Torres (23), Cody Miller (16), Jamie Palmese (16) and Grant Gallagher (20) all having big years. The Buccaneers also have some really good arms in Michael Harpster and Brady Frederick and certainly have the talent to win games in Nashville. Wright State bashed 20 home runs, getting 23 from Boston Smith, 20 from JP Peltier and 13 from Cam GIlkerson. The Raiders must get quality pitching from Cam Allen, Garrett Peters and Jarrett Heilman in the regional if they're to advance.

Former MLB Pitcher Josh Towers and Scott Seidenberg discuss the latest around Major League Baseball. Juan Soto's struggles, the Dodgers slump and futures bets to make right now! In this episode, Scott Seidenberg and Josh Towers dissect a range of MLB storylines, with a heavy focus on Juan Soto's troubled transition to the Mets. Soto's recent on-field behavior—particularly his lack of hustle on a hit off the Green Monster and only securing one hit across three games against the Yankees—sparked criticism. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced plans to speak with Soto about his effort. Towers emphasized how professional athletes are expected to hustle regardless of performance, especially when part of a new organization. He critiqued Soto's declining stats (.246 average in 2025, subpar defense) and called out the media narrative that built him up unrealistically since his 2020 breakout. He believes the $765 million valuation raised unsustainable expectations. Michael Kay, based on conversations with Mets and Yankees insiders, claimed Soto appears “glum” and without joy. Soto reportedly preferred to remain a Yankee, but his family urged him to accept the Mets' offer. Towers, who played for both franchises, praised the Yankees for their professionalism and structure, saying it fosters respect and accountability. In contrast, he noted that the Mets, while improving, still lack the Yankees' foundational stability. Scott and Josh then evaluated the NL East race. Seidenberg endorsed betting on the Phillies to win the division at +130, noting their strong veteran core (Harper, Schwarber, Wheeler) and manager Dave Dombrowski's history of bold moves. Josh echoed this but pointed out the Phillies' need for young talent infusion, something they've lacked in recent years. They also discussed the Braves' resurgence, who started 0-8 but have since gone 24-15, with key players like Max Fried returning. Shifting to the Dodgers, both hosts criticized Dave Roberts' pitching management. The team's constant injuries and overuse of bullpen arms have led to four consecutive home losses. Towers questioned the effectiveness of the organization's throwing programs and training strategies. Despite Yamamoto's reliability, the rest of the rotation, including Snell, Glasnow, and Kershaw, remains inconsistent or injured. Fried's Cy Young candidacy was explored in depth. With a 1.29 ERA and consistent dominance, Josh called him the clear front-runner. Other contenders like Robbie Ray, Hunter Brown, and Chris Bubik were noted, though Fried's consistency set him apart. On the offensive side, Pete Crow Armstrong's recent surge sparked MVP speculation, but Josh dismissed it due to his relatively weak OBP and limited consistency. Attention turned to the Texas Rangers, whose rotation (deGrom, Eovaldi, Mowley) and improving offense make them serious contenders. The coaching shift toward personalized, non-analytic-heavy hitting plans has improved their situational batting. They also discussed trade rumors including Bo Bichette, Kenley Jansen, and Sandy Alcantara potentially moving before the deadline. The Orioles and Rockies came under fire for poor development. The Rockies' minus-150 run differential led Scott to predict they might break the all-time worst record. Josh argued that both teams lack direction and accountability, especially with player growth and clubhouse culture. Lastly, home field advantage in 2025 has reached historic levels, with home teams winning 56.5% of games, the best rate since 2005. Betting trends show high returns for home favorites, and Seidenberg emphasized this is a year to follow such patterns. The hosts closed with MVP and Cy Young betting odds, a promo for Pregame.com, and a final note on the season's unpredictability and remaining opportunities. Learn more about your ad choices. Will Venable has been trying something new with his lineups. It isn't old school. It isn't new school. The White Sox manager is stacking OBP because he has an incomplete lineup. In Cincinnati it actually worked very well. We also update the White Sox Gatekeeping Affair from last Saturday night as it becomes more apparent that there may be a security issue at the ballpark. Former MLB Pitcher Josh Towers and Scott Seidenberg talk about players receiving threats, the Rockies ineptitude and other betting stories around Major League Baseball. In this episode of "The Inside Pitch" recorded on May 12, Scott Seidenberg and Josh Towers discuss the controversy surrounding Lance McCullers Jr., his disastrous return, and the broader implications of gambling culture in MLB. McCullers, in his second start after a two-year injury hiatus, surrendered seven runs in a 10-run first inning against the Reds, registering just one out, giving up three hits, three walks, and one home run. Post-game, McCullers and his family received death threats, which Towers attributed to the toxic intersection of sports betting and fan entitlement. Towers emphasized that no athlete intentionally underperforms and that threatening players over wagers is unacceptable. Seidenberg concurred, adding that the accessibility of players via social media exacerbates the issue. McCullers expressed frustration, noting he only wants to perform for the Astros while ensuring his family's safety. Shifting focus to live betting strategies, Seidenberg recounted betting the Astros team total over 3.5 runs during the blowout, leveraging the assumption that weak bullpen arms would enter early. Towers supported this approach, explaining that such scenarios often lead to high-scoring games due to less effective relievers being used and pitchers potentially experimenting with pitches under low-pressure conditions. They dissected Brady Singer's outing, noting he stuck to his sinker-slider mix, throwing 30 sinkers, 15 sliders, and four cutters, struggling post the 45-minute delay. The discussion broadened to emphasize that blowouts offer learning opportunities for pitchers, enabling them to test pitches in-game situations they'd avoid in tighter contests. Attention turned to the Rockies' collapse, particularly their 21-0 loss to the Padres, followed by Bud Black's firing. Towers criticized the Rockies' misuse of pitchers, particularly exposing young arms like Blaylock to overwhelming situations, likely contributing to organizational dysfunction. Betting-wise, the Rockies were highlighted as historically profitable to fade, with 30 of their 33 losses by multiple runs and a 5-29 record in first-five innings. Seidenberg recommended automatic daily run line fades against the Rockies. Broader betting trends were analyzed, including the Mets' 29-12 first-five innings under record and the Royals' similar 30-12 mark. The Mariners surprisingly leaned to the over. The conversation shifted to player performance futures. Kyle Schwarber's 46-game on-base streak, 14 home runs, and .404 OBP were celebrated, with Seidenberg suggesting profitable betting strategies targeting Schwarber to reach base safely in his first plate appearance using various app markets. Josh Towers and Seidenberg also agreed that Freddie Freeman's .367 average and league-best OPS made him undervalued at +1100 for the NL MVP, criticizing how consistently elite players are often overlooked in futures markets. In Cy Young discussions, Wheeler was favored in the NL at +700 due to his 58 innings, 2.95 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP, while Skubal and Eovaldi were highlighted in the AL. Hunter Brown was noted as a legitimate contender, given his cleaned-up mechanics and plus stuff. The Rookie of the Year race saw Jacob Wilson as AL favorite, while Luis Angel Acuna led the NL despite modest power numbers, with Towers skeptical of his long-term viability. They concluded by discussing rookie dark horses and emphasized the difficulty pitchers face sustaining excellence across a full season, all while promoting Pregame.com's latest offers. It's time get offensive! How committed is this new Seahawks regime to playing an offense-first style of football? Will they actually run the football like they've suggested? Will they be defense first? Everything done this offseason suggests that they are very focused on running the ball and creating a dominant defense. Now, let's talk about the Mariners offense- despite a slow start, the Mariners offense has heated up. 3rd in HR's and 4th in OBP. Episode Summary: In this episode, I dive into a key aspect of the Cubs' roster—bench depth—and why improving it could make a huge impact in 2025. Last season, the Cubs' bench was a major weakness, and I break down the numbers on just how bad it was. But with several offseason additions and some intriguing prospects, is the bench finally a strength? I also check in on the latest Alex Bregman rumors and discuss whether the Cubs should pursue a veteran bench bat like Justin Turner or Mark Canha. Key Topics Covered:
Fantasy Baseball Live – December 29, 2024Segment 1 – News and Notes1.The Nationals acquired Nathanial Lowe from the Rangers for LHP Robert Garcia. The Rangers then signed Joc Pederson to a 2-year, $37 million contract with an opt-out after the first yeara.First, what did you think of the Nationals' move? Lowe wasn't very good last season but was fairly consistent prior to that.i.For those thinking that Andres Chaparro would get a chance, that appears to not be in the cards.b.The move allows the Rangers to move Jake Burger full-time to first and then park Pederson as the strong-side platoon DH. I know people say there are no bad one-year deals, but it clogs up an already full infield. a.Give me the starters in the infield and lose out on playing time.Segment 2 – NL West Fantasy Questions1.Arizona Diamondbacksa.Corbin Carroll will be more like the 2024 first-half player or the 2024 second-half player in 2025?i.Stat line for 2025: HR, SB, and BAb.Jordan Lawlar will take over the shortstop role of ______________ (looking for a date)?c.Is Alek Thomas nothing more than a fourth outfielder or do you think he can develop into something more?d.Justin Martinez had a nice run of closing games in August but didn't save a game after September 3. On December 5, 1921, Babe Ruth and two other members of the New York Yankees are suspended for participating in an “illegal” barnstorming tour after the 1921 World Series. Commissioner Landis punishes Ruth, outfielder Bob Meusel, and pitcher “Wild Bill” Piercy for the first six weeks of the 1922 season. This will have little impact as the Yankees will make World Series for the second straight year (although they lost to the NY Giants for the second consecutive time). However, Ruth had the worst year of his career posting a 6.4 WAR, and as an everyday player, his 1.106 OPS was his second worst mark of the 20's. He did bounce back in 1923, winning the MVP. He still managed to hit 35 homers with 96 RBI, so it was a pretty good year. What I marvel at is how much of his Baseball Reference page is bolded. Between 1918 and 1931, he wasn't the league leader in home runs just twice. Once was this 1922 season and the other was 1925, when he appeared in just 98 games. On December 5, 1973 — Ron Santo becomes the first player to invoke the new 10 and 5 rule. The Cubs want to trade Santo to the Angels for two pitchers, but he vetoes the deal. The 10-5 rule, which was agreed upon during the 1972 players strike, gives a player with 10 years' service and 5 consecutive years with a team the right to veto a trade. In this case Santo was from the west coast but was comfortable in Chicago and desired to stay in the area. The Cubs honored the new agreement, and he will eventually be traded to the cross-town White Sox. It did not work out well as Bill Melton was the third baseman, and Santo moved around between second and the DH role. He will hang up the cleats in 1974. Ironically on this day in 2011, Santo will finally get his due and be voted into Baseball's Hall of Fame. A long overdue honor for Santo who passed away the previous year. He receives 15 of 16 votes from members of the “Golden Era” Committee. On December 5, 1978 — After sixteen years with the Cincinnati Reds, Pete Rose signs a four-year, $3.2 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Other teams which pursued “Charlie Hustle” include the Mets, Braves, Pirates and the Royals. The deal temporarily makes Rose the highest-paid athlete in team sports. In 5 years with the Phils (1979-1983), Pete will be a 4X All-Star and help the Phillies to 2 NL Pennants including the Phillies first Championship in 1980. He led the league in hits in 1981 with 140 base knocks, and he finished his Phillies career with a slash line of .291/.365/.361. That was a period that covered his age-38 to age-42 seasons. On December 5, 1990, the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays collaborate on an old-fashioned blockbuster trade. San Diego deals Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter to Toronto for Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez. Alomar and Carter will help the Blue Jays to two World Championships. Alomar will become one of baseball's best players during his 6 years, hitting .307 with 206 stolen bases, a .382 OBP and .833 OPS. He will finish in top 10 in the MVP vote 3 times and win 6 Gold Globes. Carter, a premium RBI man, will drive in 100+ runs in 6 of his 7 years in Toronto. Only the strike shortened year stopped him in 1995. He will finish in the top 5 for MVP voting twice and hit one of the most historic homeruns in World Series history off Mitch Williams. Fred McGriff will go on to hit 493 home runs over his career playing for multiple teams. It remains an injustice he is not in Cooperstown.Tony Fernandez will play for 2 seasons in San Diego end up back on Toronto and play on the 1993 World Championship team, playing in all 6 games and driving in 9 runs. On December 5, 1951, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson dies at the age of 62. Jackson, who succumbs to a heart attack, batted .356 over his 13-year career. Jackson had the talent to be the greatest player in history, but he threw it away...
The Royals improved their win total by 30 games... what role did analytics play in the Royals run to the playoffs?Rany Jazayerli (Co-Founder Baseball Prospectus/@Jazayerli) and Soren Petro (Sports Radio 810-WHB, 810whb.com/@SorenPetro) welcome Royals Vice President - Assistant General Manager/Research & Development, Daniel Mack to the Pod.- What role did analytics play in signing Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha?- How do the Royals handle their pitchers?- Do the Royals value OBP?- How can analytics guide the Royals through this offseason?- What do the numbers say about Jac Caglianone?- How analytics helped Bobby Witt Jr.? - Rumors have the Royals talking Singer for India.
A 7 time All-Star, Dick Allen won the 1964 NL Rookie of the Year and the 1972 AL MVP Awards. He is one of only 28 players to have won both a ROY and an MVP Award. Allen is one of only 10 players in baseball history to retire with 350+ home runs, 1000+ RBI, 1000+ runs, 100+ stolen bases, and 75+ triples. He is also one of only five players in MLB history to retire with 350+ home runs, a .290+ BA, a .375+ OBP, a career OPS+ of 155 or higher, 75+ triples; and 100+ stolen bases. The other four are Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Lou Gehrig. Hall of Famer Goose Goosage once called Allen "the greatest player I've ever seen play in my life" and the Wall Street Journal dubbed Allen “the best player eligible for the Hall of Fame”. Despite his statistics and accolades HOF induction eluded Allen, who passed away in 2020. Allen is up election on the 2025 Classic Baseball Era ballot. Will he finally get into Cooperstown this year?
Segment 1 – News and Notes1.The Rays will play their 2024 home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. It's hard to say exactly what the hitting and pitching effects will be, but Steinbrenner Field has always benefited offense.a.Will you make draft changes on Rays players based on this information?b.Not to be outdone, the Orioles announced they would move back the left field fences (after cutting the big hole). It should benefit right-handed power.c.Back to Tampa, apparently, their new stadium deal is off – again. I have no idea what this means, but a potential move out of the Tampa/St. Pete area is back on the table.2.Wander Franco got into more trouble. I'm no attorney, but those holding Franco in Dynasty Leagues…it's pass time to give up on him. It would take a miracle to see him play in MLB again.3.Award Predictionsa.AL ROY – Colton Cowser, Luis Gil, and Austin Wellsb.NL ROY – Jackson Chourio, Paul Skenes, and Jackson Merrillc.AL CY Young – Emmanuel Clase, Seth Lugo, and Tarik Skubald.NL CY Young – Chris Sale, Paul Skenes and Zack Wheeler e.AL MVP – Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt Jr., and Juan Sotof.NL MVP – Francisco Lindor, Ketel Marte, and Shohei OhtaniSegment 2 – Fantasy Baseball Questions of the AL Central 1.Detroit Tigersa.Spencer Torkelson is being drafted as the 20th first baseman off the board – after Michael Busch and before Nate Lowe. He is currently the 12th first baseman off the board. Is that too high, or do you like the spot?i.Over/Under – 25 home runsb.Maikel Garcia did not have the power upswing I thought he would have, and his .281 OBP is problematic. He is going as the 17th third baseman off the board. Is there growth here, or is he just a light-hitting 3B/2B with speed?i.He still hits the ball hard, but there just isn't any leverage with a 49.5% ground ball rate.c.Seth Lugo will get CY Young votes, but nobody is buying it, as his current ADP is 167 (69th pitcher off the board—52nd starter). Would you take him as your number three starter?d.Kyle Wright missed the entire 2024 with shoulder surgery. I haven't seen much of an update, but he's nearly free in drafts (665). Inspired by Daulton Varsho, Jeff Erickson and Fred Zinkie review which players are better in real life than fantasy, and which players are better in fantasy in real life, and try to find some underlying trends. --- 00:00 - Fred Pod 9-2 01:00 - Daulton Varsho comment from Sunday night. 02:15 - Varsho isn't a good real-life hitter, but he's been decent for fantasy this year ($8) and hit .281 with 18 runs and four homers in August. 04:50 - Players who were better in real life than fantasy this year. 05:00 - Bryce Harper. 11th in OPS but just a $22 player. He will hit 30 homers, but without many steals and his batting average is more good than great. 10:00 - Freddie Freeman. 14th in OPS but a $20 player. He may not reach 25 homers or 10 steals. Hitting .285, which is fine but not special. 17:00 - Riley Greene. 20th in OPS. But hitting .259 with 20 homers and 4 steals. Missed a bit of time, but his R/RBI aren't great either. An $11 player. 22:15 - Popular opinion is that J.D. Martinez has been very good for the Mets. It's true. He has a .777 OPS. But he has generated just $4 in fantasy. Just 16 HR, 0 SB, 108 R+RBI. 29:00 - Orioles talk - Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo 32:00 - Better in fantasy than real life. 32:20 - Maikel Garcia is second last in OPS. Has generated $17 in fantasy. The 33 steals and 83 runs scored are pretty awesome. 35:15 - Jacob Young is a poor man's version of Garcia. Eighth worst OPS but a $9 player thanks to hitting .258 with 31 steals and 69 runs. He's one of baseball's worst hitters but is helping fantasy teams in 3/5 categories. 38:35 - Zack Gelof has the 4th worst OBP of any qualified player. He also has 16 HR and 20 SB. A $4 player so far. 42:30 - Christopher Morel is batting .196 while somehow generating $3 in fantasy value. That's what 21 homers and 8 steals will do for you. 44:25 - Brice Turang has sunk to 13th worst in OPS but has generated $18 in fantasy production thanks to seven homers and 40 steals. Almost as valuable as Freeman. 46:15: - Firing up Julio Rodriguez, who's next? 47:00: - Alexis Diaz 52:25 - Good News for the Padres: Yu Darvish may return Wednesday; Joe Musgrove had a great start against the Tigers; Tatis is back. --- Pick6 Download the new DraftKings Pick Six app and use code RWPICKS. Our guest in this episode is Jordan Sparks, the founder and executive director of Oregon Brain Preservation (OBP), which is located at Salem, the capital city of Oregon. OBP offers the service of chemically preserving the brain in the hope of future restoration.Previously, Jordan was a dentist and a computer programmer, and he was successful enough in those fields to generate the capital required to start OBP.Brain preservation is a fascinating subject that we have covered in a number of recent episodes, in which we have interviewed Kenneth Hayworth, Max More, and Emil Kendziorra. Most people whose brains have been preserved for future restoration have undergone cryopreservation, which involves cooling the brain (and sometimes the whole body) down to a very low temperature and keeping it that way. OBP does offer that service occasionally, but its focus – which may be unique – is chemical fixation of the brain.Previous episodes on biostasis and brain preservation:The case for brain preservation, with Kenneth HayworthCryonics, cryocrastination, and the future: changing minds, with Max MoreStop cryocrastinating! with Emil KendziorraAdditional selected follow-ups:Oregon Brain PreservationThe costs of the services provided by Oregon Brain PreservationFocused Ultrasound: A Promising Tool for Cryonics - Tomorrow BioInvestigation of Electromagnetic Resonance Rewarming Enhanced by Magnetic Nanoparticles for Cryopreservation - LangmuirPre-epithelialized cryopreserved tracheal allograft for neo-trachea flap engineering - Frontiers in Bioengineering and BiotechnologyAldehyde-stabilized cryopreservation by Robert McIntyre and Gregory Fahy - CryobiologyOregon's Death with Dignity Act14-year-old girl who died of cancer wins right to be cryogenically frozen - The GuardianMusic: Spike Protein, by Koi Discovery, available under CC0 1.0 Public Domain DeclarationOut-of-the-box insights from digital leadersDelivered is your window in the minds of people behind successful digital products. Last night was a heartbreaker for the Mariners, and it seems as though Scott Servais is losing the guys he could lean on, the most recent being Ty France. We hear from Scott Servais' postgame last night, and the tension is palpable. Ian took a gander at social media last night and wants to know why people are so angry at the Mariners - not because they don't deserve to be - but he truly wants to know what the fans are truly passionate about right now. Anders, Jess and Ian share their thoughts on what's making them angry with the Mariners right now. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins to break down exactly what's going on with the Mariners, specifically to react to what Scott Servais had to say last night. Joe is surprised they parted ways with Ty France, who was third on the team in OBP. Ian thinks France is a scapegoat for all that's going wrong. What can the team do right now? Mariners fans are releasing their frustration on our airwaves, and we let them run with it. Andrew Marchand, The Athletic joins the show to talk about the future of NBA broadcasts on TNT and whether we'll continue to see the greatest studio show on television in the future. He also helps us keep a realistic view of NBA expansion in Seattle. When will we see the Sonics return?

The Reds scored 8 runs in three games. They struck out 39 times, including 15 yesterday, while walking 5 times. In terms of batting average and OBP, they are AMONG THE VERY WORST in Major League Baseball. And it's not going to change….. It might be over the next seven days against the two worst teams in baseball, but until the injured return or the guys here now find a magic Jeanie….it isn't getting better. And btw….the Reds made a deal last night, acquiring giants outfielder Austin slater. He's 31 years old…. basically a fifth outfielder on a good team. The Reds have lots of those already. Slater is hitting .200 in 45 games with one home run. They traded right-hander Alex Young to get him. Young has pitched brilliantly at Louisville after starting the year injured….pitched well last year for the team. Colorado comes to town for the first of four tonight. THE REDS ARE six games under .500, 10 ½ games behind the brewers in the NL Central. We will talk more about the team in a minute… The rosters for the all-star game came out yesterday..there are 33 first-time all-stars and 19 players under the age of 27, including the Red's very own Elly De La Cruz! One of the best stories is former Red Jeff Hoffman. He's 31 years old and is going to his first all-star game as a member of the Phillies. The Reds let him walk out the door after an excellent 2022 season. How about FC Cincinnati? Like all of last year, they now have the best record in the MLS after blasting Inter Miami FC at TQL stadium over the weekend. FCC has lost just four times all season and will host Charlotte FC on Saturday.
Jim first pays tribute to HOF guard Larry Allen, who tragically passed away on Sunday at the age of 52. Then, Jim discusses why he is buying Jrue Holiday HOF stock following his dominant performance in the Eastern Conference Finals (19/7/6 in ECF). Meanwhile, he reluctantly explains why he is selling off just a tiny bit of Elly De La Cruz stock, despite De La Cruz being one of his favorite players (.298 OBP, 1 HR in May will do that).

Take 10 with Tim – May 31, 2024 @ 8 am1.It's official: Ronald Acuna is lost for the season. It's his second knee surgery in three years, and I have to ask the question: Should we draft Acuna early in the first round when he has just not been able to stay healthy?a.If you're one of the unfortunate ones with Acuna on your roster, who are a couple of players you might consider adding as a replacement?b.React to these Dynasty League trades that occurred within 24 hours of his injury.i.Aaron Judge and Torkelson for Acuna, Jung Hoo Lee, Nick Gonzalez, Alex Kiriloffii.Fernando Tatis Jr. and James Triantos for Acuna2.More Injuriesa.Mets i.Edwin Diaz was put on the IL with a right shoulder impingement. True or not, it doesn't matter. Give me the breakdown of who gets saves in New York.ii.Pete Alonso – Only has a bruised hand.b.LaMonte Wade will miss time with a left hamstring strain.i.While not a big name, pretty important guy in OBP Leagues. Do you have any thoughts on who might be a pickup here to replace modest power but high OBP?c.Evan Carter hits the IL with a back strain.i.Does he return to Texas when he's healthy, or does he go to Triple-A?d.Junior Caminero will miss 4 to 6 weeks with a Grade-2 left quad strain. See, the Rays were right. Why bring him up simply for him to get hurt and be on the IL? He might not be up until a September call-up (again)3.Jorge Lopez made news when he threw his glove into the stands after another loss by the Mets and then told a reporter that the Mets were the worst team in baseball. He got designated for assignment.a.Can't speak the truth in New York I guess.b.Will he have trouble getting work?4.The much-maligned Angel Hernandez retired abruptly this week, and social media sites blew up. Fans and even players seemed thrilled. We will toss this around for a few minutes.5.The cream is rising to the surface pretty early, as most of the top players in fantasy were high picks. We will look at the Top 15 guys and evaluate whether they are first-round quality or not. We will use the CBS player rater as our guide.6.We will also do the same thing with pitchers…although Top 10. We will use the CBS player rater as our guide.7.Should the Astros admit that their window is closed and start retooling, or should they still try to be contenders?a.Based on your answer, give me a few things they should do.8.One more question based on Thursday's games.9.Give me a hitter you will target for this weekend's FAAB.10.Give me a pitcher you will target for this weekend's FAAB.
Take 10 with Tim – May 24, 2024 @ 8 am1.Real or Memorex – These players are all playing well and are outearning their draft slots. Is this a new level or is a correction coming?a.David Fry (Cle, 67th catcher [Drafted in only 48 leagues out of 5000 in the NFBC], 6th ranked catcher) - .338 BA, .476 OBP, 5 HR, 32 RBIb.Connor Joe (Pit, 88, 11) - .277 BA, .345 OBP, 6 HR, 2 SB, 25 runs, 22 RBIc.Jordan Westburg (Bal, 32, 7) - .288 BA, .339 OBP, 7 HR, 5 SB, 24 runs, 29 RBId.Maikel Garcia (KC, 20, 5) - .263 BA, .308, 5 HR, 11 SB, 28 runs, 32 RBIe.Jose Caballero (TB, 40, 11) - .257 BA, .315 OBP, 2 HR, 17 SB (8 CS), 21 runs, 14 RBI f.Brent Rooker (Oak, 73, 8) - .288 BA, .361 OBP, 11 HR, 2 SB, 23 runs, 32 RBIg.Jarren Duran (Bos, 35, 12) - .271 BA, .342 OBP, 2 HR, 11 SB, 30 runs, 20 RBIh.Jo Adell (LAA, 245, 15) - .242 BA, .311 OBP, 9 HR, 8 SB, 25 runs, 24 RBIi.Brenton Doyle (Col, 102, 16) - .274 BA, .335 OBP, 5 HR, 9 SB, 29 runs, 13 RBIj.Brandon Marsh (Phi, 89, 28) - .252 BA, .323 OBP, 6 HR, 8 SB, 16 runs, 23 RBI2.We joked when Cal Quantrill got traded to the Rockies last November, but he's getting the last laugh. His season looks a lot like his breakout season in 2022. He's posting a 3.59 ERA, but not striking out a ton (about seven per nine) with three wins. He's even pitching a sub 4.00 ERA in four starts at home. a.Should I be excited about this or is this a mirage?b.He should get traded at the deadline, but with the Rockies do it?3.Josh Hader has settled down and has pitched much better of late. Should we look at him as a Top 3 closer again?4.I actually liked Nick Gonzales entering this season and he made my target list for Draft and Hold Leagues. I'm sure people thought I was crazy, but he's been ok. He looks like he's turning back into the player that he was in his first two years of college – a contact hitter with doubles power and 10 to 12 home run pop. Your thoughts?5.Is there any reason to expect Eloy Jimenez to play more than 100 games a year? He's done 120 for two seasons, 55 and 84, and is hurt again. Do you just avoid rostering these injured-riddled players?6.Xander Boegarts fractured his shoulder and hits the IL for a while. I'm assuming Arraez moves to second. Who gets his playing time?7.Julio Rodriguez still hits the ball hard (92.6 MPH exit velo) and is still in the 98th percentile in speed, but he's striking out 28% of the time and walking less than 6% of the time – both career worst. His quality of contact (squared-up balls) is in the bottom 20% of the league. How concerned should fantasy managers be?8.One question after today's games…9.What hitter are you targeting this weekend?10.What pitcher are you targeting this weekend?

Do we love all the categories, some of them or do you just adapt to the draft in front of you?How does a livestreamed/public draft impact decision-making and is it preferable to drafting online in a more private setting?ADP is a useful tool but in an alternate categories draft players like Willson Contreras, Nick Pivetta and Seiya Suzuki went earlier than anticipated.
