Joy in Christ is a church in the Philippines that exists for God's glory, reaching the world through preaching His Word. joyinchristph.weebly.com
The apostle Paul's letters to the Thessalonians assumes a "gospel-centered" orientation, on the basis of what God has already done in Christ and what He will yet do in Christ. Whether it's on work, grief, sexual purity or hope, Paul talked of each of these things in the light of the gospel. As we read & meditate on these today from the perspective of our identity as Christians and as members of our local church, may it also remind us how the gospel should also shape all of our lives-- ours, our families', and our church's, as we share it and embody it in faith, love, and resurrection hope. == Title: Living with Resurrection Hope (sermon given in Taglish) Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28 Preacher: Ptr. When everyone who had followed Jesus watched Him suffer and die, they thought their hope had been crucified with Him. But now, looking at it in hindsight, we know our hope did not die at Calvary. No; at the darkest moment of all, when defeat seemed certain, God was sealing our hope, enthroning it for all eternity in His Son. As people living in the light of His resurrection, in Him lies our gospel hope, sufficient, enough, for life. #JoyInChristTogether #GospelForLife

The victory is won, and it is total. The people of Israel are free, Egypt is utterly defeated, and just as God promised earlier, Israel has even plundered the Egyptians as they left. But it is not time for celebration just yet. God takes steps to make sure his people will never forget, from generation to generation, what he has done to save them. = Continue to marvel at the God we worship as we journey through His story, spanning Genesis to Revelation, for all of us to look into God’s plan across the ages. #TheStoryOfScripture
God promises Abram that he will make him a great nation and that ultimately all the families of the earth will be blessed because of him. Exactly what this means is not clear at this point of history, but it is undeniably good news. What fallen humanity deserves is judgment and wrath, but what God promises is blessing. This is what it means when we speak of God's mercy & grace. = Continue to marvel at the God we worship as we journey through His story, spanning Genesis to Revelation, for all of us to look into God’s plan across the ages. #TheStoryOfScripture
Humanity is to have a new start. God even promises that he will never again destroy the world with a flood, giving Noah a sign to remind him of that promise—a bow in the heavens whose arrow would be pointed not at the earth but into heaven itself, at God’s own heart. = Continue to marvel at the God we worship as we journey through His story, spanning Genesis to Revelation, for all of us to look into God’s plan across the ages. #TheStoryOfScripture
Adam and Eve disobeyed God, cast off his authority, and threw themselves and the world into open rebellion by their sin & blame-shifting when God showed up and asked them what they have done. And just as God had warned them, the results are catastrophic. Still, there is hope. Here we find the first reference to the gospel, the "protoevangelium", in Genesis 3:15 when God declared upon the serpent: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” = Continue to marvel at the God we worship as we journey through His story, spanning Genesis to Revelation, for all of us to look into God’s plan across the ages. #TheStoryOfScripture

"[Worship] is what the whole book of Revelation is about. That’s the point of all God’s judgments, all God’s dealings with the world. All God’s plans for history from beginning to end have this one goal—WORSHIP GOD! Our worship is an open declaration to all the powers of heaven and to all the world that we will not prostitute our minds or our hearts or our bodies to the pleasures of the world. Though we may live in Babylon, we will not be captive to Babylonian ways. And we will celebrate with all our might the awesome truth that we are free from that which will be destroyed!" // John Piper, on Revelation 19 Join us as we continue in our #RevelationSeries and look into Revelation 19. We have seen across Scripture that there are two sides to God’s judgment. On the one hand, those who believe in Christ Jesus and in His promises receive divine favor, which leads to life. On the other, when the Lord judges His creation, impenitent sinners receive their just consequence for violating our God's holiness — the fury of His wrath. The Lord is patiently enduring the presence of sin, waiting for us to come to repentance and believe through faith in Christ. But also, final judgment is surely coming, and nothing can stand in the way of Him who will make all things new. Join us as we continue in our #RevelationSeries and look into Revelation 16. Over and over again in the book of Revelation—in seals and trumpets and visions and bowls—we are seeing the wrath of God toward sin and the judgment of God toward sinners being graphically and frighteningly portrayed and illustrated. We think of God as full of love and mercy and kindness and compassion, and He is full of all these things. But as a result, we have a very hard time thinking of God as also being full of wrath. And, on a whole other level, what about worshiping God for His wrath? As God pours out justice and wrath upon sin and sinners, as imagery of unbelievers being tormented fills these chapters, how are we supposed to worship? We anticipate the day Jesus is going to come and enforce His victory finally and completely, and evil will be totally abolished. But right now, we find ourselves in the midst of battle, and the strategy of the adversary is to prevent people from experiencing the peace that has been bought for them. And yet, Church, take heart! Yes, we will be rejected and opposed by the world. Satan will raise up enemies who will persecute and take pleasure in killing us. "One of the strangest things about human nature is that man has not changed because of punishment... He may desist from evil because he is afraid, but his heart is still evil. Prayer is not an afterthought in God’s plan. It's not meant to be Plan B, or a spare tire in case of emergency. God does some of his most important work in the world, and in our lives, precisely because His children-- His saints, His Church-- goes to Him in prayer (James 5:16). Fear, isolation, and uncertainty of tomorrow-- these have become part of the reality that so many of us, if not all, are facing today. Rev. 5 revealed to us that Christ is the Sovereign Redeemer, the slaughtered, risen and worthy Lamb who extends mercy and grace to all. Now, as we enter in Rev. 6, we find the same Lamb opening the seals of judgment upon the world. In Revelation 2:18-29 Jesus sends His message to the church of Thyatira, and it was the longest letter among the seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation. Wonderful positive complements are paid to the members, yet they had a major problem that threatened the health of the Church, and it is something than can affect even us today. #RevelationSeries
Revelation 2:12-17 continues with the third of seven messages to the churches of Asia Minor, particularly to the Church in Pergamum (or Pergamos). The Pergamene believers lived in a difficult place, surrounded by pagan influences, yet they held fast to Christ’s name. The church was not perfect, however, and Jesus took note of their sin. #RevelationSeries
Smyrna was a large, important city on the western coast of Asia Minor, famed for its schools of medicine and science. The words of Jesus to the church in Smyrna in Revelation 2:8-11 offer insight into the life of a first-century congregation, and there are many applications for today’s believers. #RevelationSeries
Revelation 2 begins a series of brief letters to seven churches that existed during the apostle John’s time in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Each of these messages includes information apropos to each church, and from these messages we can draw lessons applicable to our own lives today. The first letter is to the church in Ephesus. #RevelationSeries
In Revelation 1:9-20, the Apostle John describes to the seven churches a vision of the resurrected Christ. As a whole, this picture of Christ presents as incomparable, awesome, and present among His people. As believers, we stand with each other as a family and as partners in advancing the Kingdom of God, and as the church, we are a lampstand bringing light to a dark world, compelled to worship and to mission because of our glorious Savior. #RevelationSeries
