In the final week of our Abide series, we focus on the assurance we have in Christ. 1 John 5:10-15 reminds us that eternal life is found in Jesus alone, and through Him, we can confidently approach God in prayer. As Peter declared in John 6:68-69, there is no one else to whom we can turn—only Jesus has the words of eternal life. John 15:16 reassures us that we are chosen and appointed by God, called to bear fruit that lasts. This Sunday is also a significant moment in the life of Integrity Church, as it marks Pastor Ben Tugwell's last Sunday serving as our lead pastor. We reflect on the legacy of faith, discipleship, and gospel-centered leadership he has poured into this church. Join us as we abide in Christ together, celebrating His faithfulness and looking ahead with confidence in Him.For more information about Integrity Church, visit our website, http://liveintegritychurch.org Connect with us on social media throughout the week to stay up to date on events and things happening at Integrity! As we look into the Book of 1 John in our study, this week we examine how true conversion spurs life transformation.
1 John 5:13-21 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. 16 If anyone sees his brother or sister committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death; I am not saying that he should ask about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death. 18 We know that no one who has been born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols. Fully Assured Overcomers! (1 John 5:1-5) Sunday, February 9, 2025
Anchor Scripture(s): 1 John 5:1-3 NKJV | This sermon entitled "Keeping His Commandments " was delivered at the RCCG POV Sunday Service. It focuses on the importance of abiding in Christ. For any genuine relationship to thrive, there must be understanding and the ability to comprehend the nature of the other party. For our relationship with God to thrive, His established commandments must be kept. The depth of our intimacy with God corresponds to the extent to which we keep His commandments. Fellowship is what brings transformation. To keep his commandment, we must obey God's word. God's love language is obedience. Picking up in 1 John 5:6-13, Pastor Lance considers how God's love influences us as believers to love one another in truth. He explains the certainties we can have about Jesus' divinity because He was affirmed by the Father and the Holy Spirit at His conception/birth, baptism, death, and resurrection.
This week in our study in the book of 1 John, Pastor Rob Curington looks at how John gives two examples of when to pray and not to pray.
1 John 5:1-12 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and follow His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. Ephesians 6:16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 1 John 5:4-5 …for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
In 1 John 5:1-5, Pastor Lance continues our studies through John's message about the love of God. He highlights the importance of obedience to God, and how we can only demonstrate love through our actions.
Pastor Rob Curington explains how John encourages his congregation to prayer with confidence as our study into the 1 Book of John continues.
God is truth, God is love, and God is being itself. Today's Catechism readings begin to unpack the eternal nature of God and share with us God's “innermost secret." Fr. Mike teaches us that because God made us in his image and likeness, then we too are called to embody truth and love. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 212-221. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Concluding thoughts of the epistle. A key characteristic of people in the family of God is that they don't practice sin. They are of God, not the world. The Son of God has given them truth. They must keep from idols.
This sermon was preached on January 26, 2025 at Antioch Presbyterian Church, a congregation of Calvary Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America located in Woodruff, South Carolina. John assures us that in Christ we are born of God, delivered from sin, kept by His power to eternal life and delivered from Satan and the world.
Zeal | Christian Love | 1 John 5:1-5 by Providence Community Church
We resume our study into the Book of 1st John as this week Pastor Rob Curington explains how John shows that Jesus is fully God and fully Man
"Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” These ancient words from Scripture carry a startling urgency. The apostle John wraps up his letter by confronting us with an audacious claim: everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. This isn't just theological theory - it's a provocative declaration that challenges our very understanding of faith, love, and what it means to be children of God. The Rev. Doug Griebenaw, Mission Advocate for KFUO Radio, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study 1 John 5:1-21. In these epistles, John defends the truth of Jesus Christ against false teachings, calling believers to remain steadfast in their faith and grounded in the apostolic witness. He emphasizes the essential connection between truth, love, and fellowship, urging Christians to walk in the light, love one another, and reject anything that denies the person and work of Jesus. Through 1 John, we explore the assurance of salvation, the battle between light and darkness, and the call to abide in Christ. In 2 John, we are reminded of the importance of holding fast to the truth while guarding against deceivers. Finally, in 3 John, we see a personal glimpse into the challenges of church leadership, hospitality, and Christian unity. Together, these letters challenge us to live faithfully as God's children in a world that opposes His truth. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. 1 John 5:20 is one of the handful of grammatically ambiguous passages in the New Testament that either calls Jesus "God" (theos) or distinguishes Jesus from God. This week's episode examines the passage as neutrally and fairly as possible to determine whether Jesus is called "the true God and eternal life." 1 John 5:20 will be set in the broader context of the entire book and the context of Johannine literature as a whole before deciding on the key theological matter.
