In this episode, Stephen and Kyle with Third Act Ohio activists Jess Grim, Ditte Wolin, and Ted Wolner."Third Act, a national volunteer-based organization focused on protecting the climate and strengthening democracy, is expanding its reach to Ohio with a state-wide chapter that officially launched December 1, 2022. The new chapter, like the national organization, is led by a group of “experienced Americans” — people over the age of 60. When it comes to the fight against climate change, the chapter leaders say a simple way to do so is for people to take a look at where they keep their money." Dr. James P. Buchanan was educated at Yale University and University of Chicago where he completed a PhD in comparative religions and value systems. He also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, The University of Moscow, and the University of Beijing. His teaching and research has focused upon ethics, global systems, and interfaith dialogue. He held the first endowed chair in E/RS at Xavier before becoming University Professor and Executive Director of The Brueggeman Center.Interfaith Cincy began as a joint academic and interfaith project between the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue at Xavier University and the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati Fellowship through Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. They began at a planning meeting between Judie Kuhlman, a Xavier Graduate student in Theology, and Nathan Farb, a Rabbinical Student at HUC-JIR, as well as Dr. James Buchanan of the Brueggeman Center. They set out to answer the basic question: “What is the state of interfaith activity in Cincinnati?” They soon found that no one in Cincinnati had attempted a comprehensive study of the people and organizations participating in interfaith projects. They began by interviewing many leaders and members of diverse organizations across the tri-state metro area. They found a lot of passionate individuals serving their communities through interfaith cooperation toward meeting common needs. They also found that the greater the level of cooperation, the greater the level of success. With this new knowledge in mind, they set about creating a permanent and dynamic resource to serve the interfaith community: InterfaithCincy.org.Their goal is to seek out these groups and the services they provide, in order to enable them to expand their capacity. The website provides a communication network for individuals to share success stories and their best ideas. Interfaith Cincy uses academic resources to objectively represent the variety of organizations that we have encountered in a growing directory. In keeping with their scholarly roots, InterfaithCincy.org is also an educational tool designed to strengthen interfaith dialogue.https://www.interfaithcincy.org/

If you're like us, the last two years have been overwhelming in light of the injustices brought to light and laid bare for the world to see. Racism, police brutality, environmental injustice, and healthcare disparities. The list could go on and on. Many of us began waking up to these injustices, only to feel overwhelmed, small, and insignificant, wanting to help but feeling in adequate and unsure of how to make a difference. And so what many of us have done, is well...nothing. We have become paralyzed with our inability to make a difference or to even know where to start. There are a number of great podcasts that highlight the injustices of our time…and, there are also quite a few podcasts that highlight the news and the politics of the Greater Cincinnati area. But what we saw time-after-time was that there were no podcasts focusing specifically on the injustices in our region, the Greater Cincinnati area. And so, this podcast will work to do just that. Each week, we will highlight the injustices in our community, amplify the local voices working for justice, and finally, we hope to empower you, the listeners, with practical, tangible, and local ways to bring about a more just Cincinnati. In the coming weeks, we will be interviewing some amazing people doing courageous work, right here in our own backyard. And we know you'll walk away inspired and with a nugget or two of really good information on small steps you can take to be a part of the change for good. Join us next week as we work together to bring about a more just Cincinnati.
