This week's guest is a dear friend of mine I connected with on a shared mission of entrepreneurship for social good. Vanita Badlani's passion for vegetarianism and fashion led her to address a gap she found in the fashion industry—making high-quality products that were not only beautiful and vied for but were also cruelty-free and sustainable while being accessible. Join us as we discuss driving change in the fashion industry through sustainable innovation and delivering excellence in an ethical way—and how consumers can be discerning when purchasing products labeled as “ethical.” Vanita Badlani is a sustainability warrior and impact entrepreneur, leading LaBante London, a luxury vegan accessories brand dedicated to ethical fashion and environmental stewardship, to promote the power of conscious consumerism. Today, I'll be chatting with Vanita Jassal and Kevin McAnena. This was the first ever live episode of Irish in Toronto and I would like to thank Daniel Patton for making it happen. Daniel is the Development and Engagement Manager for North America for Queen's University Belfast. This event was about allowing members of the Queen's alumni to share their stories of what brought them to Toronto. In this episode, you will hear from Dr. Vanita Jassal who has been in Toronto for around thirty years. She shares her story of growing up as a visible minority in Belfast during the Troubles. Her success in Toronto has been remarkable and she shares how this was achieved, as well as the more honest negative experiences she has had. Kevin McAnena, from Co. Tyrone, has been living in Toronto for close to a decade now. He shares the curiosity that led him here and how he has managed to maintain strong links with Ireland. I would still encourage people to download the episodes and to share them with friends and family. Downloads are the easiest indicator for me to gauge how many people I am reaching with these conversations so I would really appreciate it.

Ruth Vanita's book The Dharma of Justice in the Sanskrit Epics (Oxford UP, 2021) shows that many characters in the Sanskrit epics - men and women of all varnas and mixed-varna - discuss and criticize discrimination based on gender, varna, poverty, age, and disability. On the basis of philosophy, logic and devotion, these characters argue that such categories are ever-changing, mixed and ultimately unreal therefore humans should be judged on the basis of their actions, not birth. The book explores the dharmas of singleness, friendship, marriage, parenting, and ruling. Bhakta poets such as Kabir, Tulsidas, Rahim and Raidas drew on ideas and characters from the epics to present a vision of oneness. Justice is indivisible, all bodies are made of the same matter, all beings suffer, and all consciousnesses are akin. This book makes the radical argument that in the epics, kindness to animals, the dharma available to all, is inseparable from all other forms of dharma. This week I had the pleasure of interviewing someone whose channel I have loved since I first discovered her it: Dr. Vanita Rattan. She talks a lot about hyperpigmentation and skincare on her channel. It was such a pleasure getting to know her better in this interview. We only had a short window of time available so we jam-packed as much information as we could into this interview. I'm so inspired by her story and how she went full-time on Youtube. Failure was not an option for her. Her work ethic, her passion, and her energy for YouTube is so palpable and motivating. After listening to this interview, I think you're going to be fired up! Our connection was a bit spotty, so the audio has some glitches in it! Click HERE to watch this interview on YouTube Full show notes at erikavieira.net ---------- Love the podcast? More than twenty-five million people in the U.S. experience bladder leakage every day and while the problem is more common in women, millions of men also confront this challenge. Unfortunately, says Vanita Gaglani, support for men dealing with this issue is lacking, especially after prostate surgery. “Men have been ignored and they have an equal problem. They don't know who to go to. There is no structure. There are no guidelines for them to follow.” Gaglani recognized this gap not long after starting her physical therapy practice in Melbourne, Florida thirty years ago, and now 90% of her patients are men. In that time, she's treated thousands of people with a multipronged approach that resolves incontinence issues in a matter of weeks. “Kegels are not the end-all, be-all treatment. We have to have a complete approach,” she says, which includes nutrition, understanding body mechanics and lifestyle changes. Gaglani has detailed her protocol in a new book: Life After Prostate Cancer and Other Urological Surgeries: A Step-by-Step Guide to Stop Urinary Leakage in Ten Weeks, which is a follow-up to an earlier book that was geared more to an older population. Don't miss this deeply informative conversation about the special characteristics of the bladder, insights on how men approach medical treatments, and advice about helping patients overcome reluctance to speaking about embarrassing issues. And, make sure to listen to the end to discover Vanita's special connection to Raise the Line!Mentioned in this episode: http://vanitasrehab.com/
