Inspired by a ton of new huge trailers, Justin, Pat, and Pete join together to discuss the art and science of trailers themselves. Why do they have to give away so much? Is it possible to market a film without giving away spoilers? And in the end... we really just agree to listen to Brad Bird. The guys lead-off the show talking about the casting for Disney's upcoming Beauty and the Beast live action film, the trading of female directors on Wonder Woman and Joss Whedon bemoaning the lack of an Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man. Actual trailers discussed include the not-directed-by-Edgar Wright Ant-Man, the epic comic book battle, Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and of course, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Make sure you stick around through the bloopers to hear the tale of how THE RAMBLING RAMBLERS came to have that name... and what it was almost named instead!
Be our guest, as in the spirit of college basketball's March Madness, Justin, Pat, and Pete join together to figure out what the greatest animated Disney film is... and you better believe a bracket was created just for this occasion! 4 regions. 24 films. And lots of debate about which one would ultimately be considered king of the jungle! In addition to the bracket extravaganza, the guys also discuss the recent news about the two live action Disney remakes of Dumbo and Beauty and the Beast. They also discuss the most recent trailers of Disney's likely summer blockbusters, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Brad Bird's Tomorrowland.
Inspired from some at-home conversations, Justin, Pat, and Pete join together to attempt to create Hollywood's Modern Day Mount Rushmore. Movie stars become legendary because of more than just box office receipts - you also have to take into consideration public perception, critical reception, awards and everything that comes with being involved in the cinematic world... so who made the cut? Additionally, the guys allow Pat to geek out over the Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe news before discussing the passing of Leonard Nimoy and recapping the 87th Academy Awards. Trailers covered in this episode include Noah Baumbach's While We're Young, Simon Pegg in Kill Me Three Times and the upcoming sci-fi flick, Ex Machina.
On this episode, Pete, Justin, and a present-in-spirit-but-not-voice Pat do their best to guess which films are going to take home Oscar gold! Before they make their predictions, they discuss the box office success of 50 Shades of Grey (as well as the prospect of jellyfish being used as sexual innuendo), Neill Blomkamp taking on yet another Alien sequel and the gigantic superhero news that was Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to that, they also cover the new trailers for Cameron Crowe's Aloha, Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak and Judd Apatow's Trainwreck.
The ramblers are back rambling! Yes, it's been a few months but Justin, Pat & Pete are back to discuss Super Bowl trailers (and 50 Shades of Eww), the Oscars and some stuff we've seen lately.
In this episode, the guys get together in honor of the release of Gone Girl to discuss the art of the book adaptation and what that means in today’s Hollywood. What are some of the best examples of novel-to-screen adaptations? Some of the worst? And what do we hope one day makes it to the big screen? Before diving into that feature discussion, Pat, Pete, and Justin discuss the rumor about Marvel splitting Avengers 3 into two movies, Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass being Bourne again and the insanity that is the announcement of a movie called Tetris. God help us all. Trailers this week include Keanu Reeves in the horribly titled John Wick, Michael Mann’s Blackhat, Liam Neeson kicking ass again in Tak3n (or Taken 3 if you will) and the much-anticipated Paul Thomas Anderson film, Inherent Vice.
All three guys are back and this episode they're here to discuss the films they're most excited about over the rest of 2014 (you know, not named Gone Girl). Justin, Pat, and Pete also talk about Joaquin Phoenix and his interest in Marvel's Dr. Strange and Dax Shepard adapting the classic TV show "CHiPs" to the big screen. However, the biggest (and most fun) ramble comes when Pat puts on his Nerd Hat and tries to describe everything going on with Shazam, Captain Marvel and all the differences in the DC/Marvel universe in light of Dwayne Johnson's casting as Black Adam. Trailers this week include Jon Stewart's Rosewater, the William Shakespeare adaptation Cymbeline, and what could be the highest grossing film of 2014, Nicolas Cage in Left Behind.
Our little podcast is officially one year old! And to celebrate (or just by coincidence) the guys literally got together to discuss movies! Hear Pat, Pete, and Justin LIVE from Pete's living room as they discuss first meetings, the accomplishments of the show thus far, and the future of the Rambling Ramblers! Trailers include the Charlie Hunnam-less 50 Shades of Grey, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, and the final film in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, Battle of the Five Armies. (Also of note: the Facebook page discussed as a possibility is now a reality. Find us and LIKE us!
In this episode, the guys talk about time travel in movies! What are we allowed to nitpick when a movie features something that isn't actually possible? Is Primer too dense to even enjoy? And if you ever wanted to hear films like Terminator 2 and Looper broken down, this is the place for you! Trailers discussed in this episode include Dane DeHaan and Aubrey Plaza in Life After Beth, Bill Murray's Oscar bait, St. Vincent, David Fincher's Gone Girl and finally, after long last, the teaser for Horrible Bosses 2... which means Justin gets to jump on a soap box again! That movie shouldn't exist! Also, stick around for the outtakes this week... especially if you want to hear Pat try to describe Freejack to Justin and Pete (also, bonus Horrible Bosses 2 hate!)...
In this episode, Justin, Pete, and Pat get together to discuss the world of Box Office and the ins and outs of what goes on when the money starts rolling in. It turns out, there is way more to it than meets the eye. Kind of like a Transformer.... minus Shia LaBeouf. In addition to the feature discussion, the guys discuss FOX's new fall show, "Gotham" and the bizarre story of the Bernie from Richard Linklater's Bernie being released from prison... to live with Richard Linklater. All that plus they discuss what they've seen lately! Hear Pete rave about Only Lovers Left Alive, Justin rave about Chef and Pat mourn the disappointment of The Amazing Spider-Man 2... while Justin tries his best to defend Marc Webb's latest outing. Come for the intelligent, behind the scenes conversation about the Box Office. Stay to hear one of Pat's kids crying in the background, as well as the Legend of Mustache Banana (featuring Pete's fiancee)!
March Madness has arrived and for you non-sports fans, that means having to listen to us basketball fans go on and on about brackets and Cinderellas and upsets... Well how about a bracket made just for movie lovers? In this episode, Justin, Pat, and Pete navigate an expertly made bracket containing films made by the beloved director Steven Spielberg. They go round-by-round until the ultimate champion is crowned. How far will your favorite Spielberg film go? Listen to find out! Trailers this week include the young adult novel adaptation The Maze Runner, the summer sci-fi sleeper The Signal and the Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep film The Giver.
This week, Justin is away, but that doesn't stop Pete and Pat from looking at the Oscars, the MTV Movie Awards and the war of words between Zack Snyder and Terry Gilliam over Watchmen. The duo then deliver some tough love to their absent cohost by running down a list of older essential films (that Justin has probably not seen). Trailers this week include Deliver Us from Evil, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and Frank.
Welcome back, listeners! We missed you! After a THREE WEEK BREAK (again, our apologies) the guys are once again joined by Pete Conway as they take on the job of picking out some of the greatest casting decisions of all-time as well as the ones that made us want to put our heads through the wall. Also, name-flubs! And something called "the masculinity of man." It's all here! News-wise, the guys cover the unfortunate passing of Harold Ramis as well as the casting of the new Fantastic Four reboot (which inspired the feature discussion topic). Trailers this week include Paul Walker's second-to-last hurrah, Brick Mansions, Ten Rules for Sleeping Around and the much-ballyhooed Guardians of the Galaxy. Come for the great discussion. Stay for Pat's impressions of both Keanu Reeves and the RZA. Not many people can pull off both...
In this episode, Justin is joined by Pete Conway, friend of the show AND the host, as Pat was off galavanting with Kellen Lutz somewhere on the opening weekend of The Legend of Hercules. Justin and Pete dive into some news about the new FX show based on the Coen Brothers film Fargo, lament the future existence of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and continue discussing the sad yet hilarious story that is Shia LaBeouf. Then the guys move on to discuss Her, the new Spike Jonze film that is equally beautiful and brilliant. And even though they talk about it for a half hour, they fail to mention HOW FUNNY IT IS! IT'S REALLY FUNNY! (No, really - it's actually very funny).
In this episode, Pat and Justin eulogize the video rental store behemoth that has now officially gone out of business. What does this mean for the rental business? Is Netflix really the end-all and be-all of home viewing entertainment? And what type of trouble did Manager Pat get into when HE used to work for Blockbuster? All of that plus the guys briefly discuss Pat's viewing of Thor: The Dark World and get into the news about franchise-shifting directors being hired for both Star Trek and the next Bourne film. Also, Justin kicks and screams some more about Horrible Bosses 2. Trailers covered this week include A Winter's Tale and The Raid 2.
Justin and Pat spend this episode looking at horror movies in all their forms as Pat discusses why the genre is his favorite. The duo also discuss new trailers for Charlie Countryman and Hercules: The Legend Begins, and spend some time focusing on facial hair and Charlie Hunnam's shopping habits.
Pat and Justin provide an overview of the show before diving into new trailers for American Hustle and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, as well as a discussion of the next Oscar host. Our feature discussion springboards off of Warner Brothers announcement about the next Superman movie to discuss the state of DC comics movies and the overload of film news.
