While We're Young udkom på dansk blu-ray fra Scanbox d. 24. september. Hør mere om filmen i podcasten, og læs mere om blu-rayen på bloggen.

To fail or succeed entirely by one's own efforts.  This week we go to Sink or Swim Art Gallery to talk with our friend Ryan who has gone all in... with his artistic endeavors , as he opens a new art gallery filled with terrific artwork and movie references. We discuss Ryan's early interests in both art and film, and just how one leads to the other.   And while we make up our own story, we also discuss... Gremlins, De Chirico, Inside Out, What We Do in the Shadows, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Sponge Bob from Piccaso, sharing other weird ideas, the boys who fell down the toilet, being an art kid, coconuts and cinnamon toast, Joe Bob Briggs, confident filmmakers, a less macho Jimmy Fallon, when it all adds up to being weird, Beauty Is Embarrassing, sitting in front of the advertising box, Captain USA and Handy, the NPR "thing", silly surreal, Grant Wood, a cult of originality, Siskel and Ebert, there's a solidarity to growing up that level of geek, substituting shapes for no apparent reason, filming the impressionists, Green Acres, Red Flag, like a podcast virus, Looney Tunes landscapes, Alfred Hitchcock, documenting the evolution of a thing, Wayne White, Funny Games, being at the brink of giving up, Exit Through the Gift Shop, I really cannot trust that voice, skateboarding, Shakespeare, Jennifer Prediger, The Anniversary Party, bringing JTT out of retirement, Hell Comes to Frogtown, it's like they are trying to push your buttons, Disney animation,  making it a lifestyle, Ren and Stimpy, the urban Muppet world, Botticelli, the Carter family, The Ballad of the Sad Cafe, Ninja Turtles meets The Monster Squad, a parody of itself, undulating, Thomas Kinkade, Alex Karpovsky, Night of the Creeps, celebrity vs. artist, Jackson Pollock, it's like realizing a group of people you're talking to... are a cult, Aquaman marrying a woman without gills, transcendental poetry and stupid logic, barricaded from progressing, anything with big monsters, robots, dinosaurs... I just completely turn back into a six-year old, you'll like this ... it's bizarre, Fire and Ice, Dogtown and Z Boys, Chasing  Gabor, we want it to be fun... we want to bring fun back into art, Salvador Dali, two different theories of evil... driving around in the same car, While We're Young, for me... it's a lot of disappointment, no matter how fast the rabbit runs... the hounds are going to catch up to him, putting your head in an oven, trainwreck movies, sleep... it's overrated, High School art classes, artisanal toast and discovering the secret of Blankets and Spaghetti. "I think film is the perfect collaboration of all forms of art." For more on the gallery and Ryan's art, go to: http://www.sinkorswimartgallery.bigcartel.com/

Movie Meltdown - Episode 307 This week Bryan and Lucy team up once again with Michael from the You Eight It podcast to tackle a relatively forgotten film from Michael Rooker's past. Long before he found a much wider audience with projects like The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy, Mr. Rooker was probably thrilled to get cast as the lead in a modern day film noir called Brown's Requiem. Especially since it was based on a James Ellroy novel and co-starred people like Selma Blair, Will Sasso, Brad Dourif, Harold Gould, Kevin Corrigan, Valerie Perrine, Tobin Bell and Brion James. But despite the well-known author and impressive cast... it seems like this movie was lost to the ages. So the three of us sit down to recap the film and try to figure out just why this movie wasn't a big hit. And while we learn about the mysterious origins of Higgins Memorial Coliseum, we also bring up... The Age of Adaline, if in fact I had maintained consciousness, Mass Effect Trilogy, having a lollipop, Goldust, While We're Young, being a child fire-bomber, Mississippi Burning, Jennifer Jason Leigh, a young girl theme, JFK, dying unceremoniously, beating the under-aged horse, he's on in an off way, Big Hero 6, owned it on VHS, for huffing purposes, from Michael Rooker to Warren Oates, a drinking-related mishap, 1996 era professional wrestling, feelin' 85, Tango & Cash, emotional resonance, golf ball smuggling, Noah Baumbach personal baggage, it makes the whole thing a lot grosser... in a way I can appreciate, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, his young ingénue, terrible experiences make you go back to the bottle, Mexican wrestlers, bitterness and resentment, hiring a random guy to dig a hole, L.A. Confidential, a movie that time forgot, what's going on with the Fat Dog?, Cliffhanger, Ben Stiller, one of my old nemeses, not relating to different peer groups, Mallrats, wrestling panda bears, and suffering from Simpson's Syndrome.   Spoiler Alert: We reveal full spoilers for Brown's Requiem. This is a hard to find title these days, so go seek it out and watch it beforehand for spoiler-free listening. You have been warned.  "Parts of the movie feel like dragging sand through molasses."  For more on Michael's podcast (including several episodes featuring members of the Movie Meltdown cast), go to:  http://www.youeightitpodcast.com/

The Cinephiles get gangster this episode, as the topic is, as stated by Matty, "People Doing Criminal Sh*t". The guys welcome Drex Live's producer Eric to the show, as well as regular guest J.J. Webb for a pretty interesting group of films. The panel starts with something a little different in their usual news department. They talk television! With Daredevil now on Netflix and the return of Game of Thrones, the guys movie watching took a little break to get immersed in these groundbreaking TV series. Then the horrible R word comes out: Reboot. What's getting a Hollywood "re-imagining"? These are our Staff Picks of the week! After checking out the latest Fast and Furious film, Matty has an urge to re watch one of the co-stars Tony Jaa's older films The Protector. The movie is about a young Thai fighter who must travel to Australia to recover his stolen elephant, a sacred animal in his village. This movie is packed with incredible martial arts scenes and awesome one shot sequences. We're a little bummed that this film wasn't called "A Boy and His Elephant". Stevil got to check out an advanced screening of Noah Baumbach's new film While We're Young and loved it. It follows a middle-aged "Generation X" couple (Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts) who befriend a young hipster couple (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried). As the older couple start to feel invigorated by the lifestyle of  their new friends, it starts to drudge up the issues within their own marriage. Baumbach knocks it out of the park again with this one and it also features the screen debut of Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock. Eric has been watching Interstellar pretty regularly and who can blame him? Christopher and Jonathan Nolan weave a beautiful and smart sci-fi about a father going through incredible lengths to save his children and the entire planet from extinction. The visuals are flawless and make you really think about just how small we are in the scope of the universe. Then we pack another bowl in the ol' bong... Canadian films don't usually get their due, but J.J. bring the deeply complex drama Elephant Song as his pick this week. A very dialogue driven film, it stars Bruce Greenwood as a psychiatrist trying to find the whereabouts of his friends and colleagues by questioning one of his main patients played by Xavier Dolan. This young actor/director Dolan's career is on the rise, making his first film at age 19 and movie lovers should definitely check out his work. For the main subject of criminal films, our panel explains why they made their choices: "There are a lot of great criminal or gangster films, but among my favorite are the Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn London gangster films. Vaughn produced Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, then pursued making his own film, my choice, the absolutely perfect Layer Cake. This is really the fist time I took notice of Daniel Craig, in, perhaps, his greatest performance to date. This movie got him Bond. Vaughn direction through cinematography, story and great music is immaculate, a great watch every time." - @thestevildead "You may jump to some conclusions as to why I picked Eastern Promises. Is it my love of Cronenberg or is it Viggo's flopping manhood. I picked it because it talks about a criminal underworld that has predominantly started in the shadows, Russian Gangsters. What I brought was a look into the bleak and disturbing underbelly of London, where an outsider gets a first hand view of the darkness that lives in some people's souls." - @mattydub604 "You may be asking what the criminal element in this movie is, well it is identity theft. CB4 is a very real look into how many fake people are in Hip Hop the music industry and to go farther life.  There are some real lessons to be learned  although it may not seem like it with a song called sweat from my balls  Art Evans who plays Chris Rocks father speaks a lot of truth. The soundtrack will take you back to the 90's and you will never look at Khandi Alexander the same again." - @nweaz "I have quite the record of picking Criterion films for these casts. So when the crime genre came up, I had no hesitation in picking this obscure, amazing title. Japan has a great selection of crime films, whether it is yakuza, fast paced action, or a more film noir style of the 50's. Going off the beaten path with Tokyo Drifter, in what can only be described as a jazz, pistol, and loner film, was a no brainer for me, and a great way to introduce a feature most people wouldn't think of when talking about crime films. I hope this opens the door and peaks your interest to maybe go and see what other Japanese crime films can be." - @hesthejage What is your favourite criminal or gangster film? Do you or did you enjoy our picks? Listen to the episode and let us know what you think in the comments below and follow us on Twitter and Instagram!

Arthur Miller's Pullitzer prize winning 1949 play, Death of a Salesman, set in Brooklyn in New York, is one of the greatest American tragedies ever written. In a production to celebrate the centenary of Miller's birth at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford on Avon, Artistic Director Greg Doran directs Anthony Sher as Willy Loman, Harriet Walter as his wife Linda and Alex Hassel as their son Biff. How well does this production portray the darkness that lies at the heart of the American dream? Oscar nominated for The Squid and the Whale, "While We're Young" is Noah Baumbach's 8th feature film, and his second collaboration with star Ben Stiller. A comedy about the generational divide in a technologically driven age - what new insights does it provide on the perennial conflict between age and youth? Award winning novelist, biographer and poet Peter Ackroyd's turns his attention to Alfred Hitchcock in a new biography which details the director's stormy, controlling relationships with his leading ladies, as well the painstaking way in which he mastered his cinematic craft manifest in such cinema classics as Notorious, Rear Window, Psycho and The Birds. What new light can the "Master of Biography" shed upon the "Master of Suspense?" When you go to see an exhibition at the National Gallery in London you expect to see paintings. However in Frames in Focus: Sansovino Frames it is the frames themselves that are the stars of the show - one of the first times ever a UK gallery has created an exhibition (almost) purely from frames alone. What does this exhibition reveal about the art of the picture frame? And a new BBC 2 television series, Sex and The Church, explores the complex question of the church's attitude towards sex from the birth of Jesus to the present day, presented by Professor Diarmaid MacCulloch.

This week's episode features a two-part conversation with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach. Part one comes from a recent Q&A after a screening of his latest, WHILE WE'RE YOUNG; and part two comes from the 2012 New York Film Festival, when Baumbach sat with legendary director Brian De Palma for a very special Directors Dialogue. Baumbach returned to the Film Society of Lincoln Center in March for a mini-retrospective entitled Growing Up Baumbach, which included a triple feature of KICKING AND SCREAMING, THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, and a sneak preview of WHILE WE'RE YOUNG. In the film, which is now in theaters, Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts star as a married couple in their forties who connect with a younger couple played by Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried. The comedy has been hailed as the director’s most accessible film. In fact, at a recent screening the director jokingly said: “What you are about to see is the happiest I get.” Noah Baumbach has a long history with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, starting in 1995 when his debut feature, KICKING AND SCREAMING, was a main-slate selection in the New York Film Festival. Since then, he has attended subsequent NYFFs to present THE SQUID AND THE WHALE in 2005, MARGOT AT THE WEDDING in 2007, and FRANCES HA in 2012. In 2010, the director took the stage with legendary director Brian De Palma for a special Directors Dialogue moderated by Variety’s Scott Foundas, which is featured in part two of today's podcast. But first, part one spotlights Baumbach's most recent appearance at the Film Society's Walter Reade Theater, with a talk moderated by New York Film Festival Director Kent Jones. 00:00–2:40 - Intro 02:40–30:59 - WHILE WE'RE YOUNG Q&A 31:54–01:42:48 - Noah Baumbach + Brian De Palma at NYFF50 This podcast is brought to you by The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
