In this Podcast we had an honest discussion with one of Melbourne's leading figures in the Specialty Coffee Industry, David Makin. Dave himself is a two time Australian Barista Champion and came second in the World Barista Championship. He and his wife Zoe started Axil Coffee Roasters in 2010, since then they have opened 15 stores and have developed an impressive wholesale division. This year they began to expand, which has hit a significant hurdle with Government imposed Lockdowns that have crippled Victoria's hospitality industry. Like most business owners in Melbourne right now, Dave has expressed his thoughts on how we could better transition from lockdown and why hospitality is better equiped than most industries to keep customers and staff safe. We hope you enjoy this podcast. As always, stay cool!
This week coffee took the back seat a little bit. With everything going on in Melbourne we wanted to stay positive, so spoke to a former customer of ours, Wil Anderson! This later saw him using coffee from one of Daniela's farms, Finca Las Alasitas in the Australian Barista Championship in 2019. As a coffee origin, Bolivia has seen declining production of Specialty Coffee for over twenty years. Bolivian coffee growers face many environmental, financial and political barriers to both growing and selling their coffee. Coronavirus has of course added more challenges for coffee growers in this region. In this podcast Daniela and Kirk speak about those challenges while also speaking about what the future has in store for Agricafe and Bolivian coffee.
