Remember Hugh Cornwell who fronted English band, the Stranglers? Wanna know what he's up to today? Tune in to find out! Best known as frontman of the Stranglers, one of the most long-lived and internationally popular bands from the original wave of British punk, Hugh Cornwell is also enjoying a successful solo career, that began with his debut solo album, Nosferatu in 1979 and continues long after he left the group in 1990. Born in 1949 and brought up in North London, Hugh began making music in high school, where he played in a band with Richard Thompson (later of Fairport Convention). After graduating from Bristol University with a B.Sc. in biochemistry, he moved to Sweden to do postgrad research. There he formed the band called Johnny Sox, which would later become the Stranglers. The band, initially idenitfied with the grittiness of punk rock, but became much more ironic and cerebral than most of its contemporaries. They went on to greatly expand their sound, morphing into new wave and later, relatively mainstream pop. The Stranglers are best remembered for their smooth ballad "Golden Brown." Hugh Cornwell released his debut solo album in 1979. The follow-up album, Wolf arrived nine years later and in 1990, feeling the band had artistically worn itself out, Hugh left the Stranglers. After that, he grew ever more prolific, issuing two solo albums in the '90s and four in the 2000s, along with several live and compilation albums - one a collaborative effort in 1992 with songwriter, Roger Cook. He also worked with Irish poet John W. Sexton. Hugh wrote five books, including two novels. His band often featured as a stripped-back power trio and Hugh's solo music remains heavily influenced by blues and rock n roll. It is always characterised by his erudite and sardonic lyrics. More recently, in 2016 Hugh collaborated with legendary punk poet John Cooper Clarke on an album entitled 'This Time It's Personal' He released his ninth album, Monster in 2018 and has just put out his tenth solo album, Moments of Madness. Hugh Cornwelll has also been an actor, appearing in a number of stage productions and television series. He currebtly hosts a podcast dedicated to his love of film, called Mr Demille FM, http://mrdemillefm.com/ He's also a massive cricket fan. I hope you enjoy our chat. Today's guest deejay is Tim McManus, the had honcho of Island House Recordings, a little label based on a little island in the East river, Roosevelt Island, NYC. How did I cross paths with Tim, you ask? Oh, the usual circuitous route. A few years back, Stefan Beck, who moonlights as Golden Brown, took over the turntables on Soundwave (you can check out Stefan's mix here). I asked him who might be keen to share a mix on an upcoming show, and without missing a beat, he recommended Tim. Stefan said he curious to hear what Tim put together. After doing a deep dive into Tim's label, I was curious, too. Tim did not disappoint. He kicked off his set with a track from The The — talk about a curveball. That unexpected twist set the tone for the entire mix. From there, Tim kept the surprises coming, weaving through tracks from Gastr De Sol (I'm a longtime David Grubbs fan) to Nimbudala. You're in for a treat! Naturally, I'm already primed to ask Tim who he thinks should helm the decks on Soundwave next. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be Broken Chip. See you then. Plus, Sonam flips the script, grilling Kirk with hard-hitting questions that uncover tales of tyrannical chefs and cold brew secrets. Also, why is Kirk bringing back decaf? If you're new here (welcome!), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day, that It's Just Coffee! Rohan, we miss you and look forward to having you back next week. But in the meantime, it was great to have Sonam on the pod. ++++++++++Song-Tipps zur Folge++++++++++ The Byrds - Eight Miles High The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows The Beatles - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze The Velvet Underground - Heroin The Rolling Stones - Mother's Little Helper The Doors - The Crystal Ship The Who - Acid Queen Steppenwolf - The Pusher J.J. Golden Brown cover : The stranglers. Don´t stop me now cover : The Queen. I´m a man oficial : Steve Winwood.
Interview by Kris PetersThe Stranglers are part of the final frontier of the true genesis of the punk era.Not that the band can be called punk in the purest public sense of the word, but when it comes to attitude, swagger, and defiance there is no compromise.Since forming in 1974 The Stranglers have epitomised the working class ethos and fuck you persona that many mimic or attempt to harness. But there's is the real deal. No posing. No pretensions. No faking. From the beginning if you didn't like them or their music then The Stranglers quite simply couldn't care less. With a career that has spawned such hits as Golden Brown, Always The Sun, No More Heroes, Strange Little Girl and Peaches, The Stranglers still carry the torch for punk and roll in all of its magnificent glory, and are set to bring those songs and more to Australia with a five date run of shows this April.Guitarist Baz Warne sat down with HEAVY recently to discuss the tour and what life in the inner circle of The Stranglers is really like."The main thing that people are gonna notice immediately is that we've got a new keyboard player," he began. "Unfortunately. we lost the original keyboard player Dave Greenfield - who was in the band from 1975 to COVID in May 2020, which was a huge blow. But we managed to unbelievably find someone who was a student of Dave's - not literally - but somebody who loved The Stranglers and loved Dave's keyboard playing. We were lucky enough to find a guy called Toby Hounsham who plays with us now. He's been with us for two years, so we're looking forward to coming down and showing him off to everyone. We'll just be firing and rocking like we always are. It's such a blast to come to Australia. It always is and always has been."In the full interview baz talks more about the tour and what to expect, coming up with a set list to please everybody, the effects age can have on touring and playing live, his early days in the band, bringing his own swagger to The Stranglers, the longevity of the band, his three commandments of punk and more.

Artiste : The Stranglers. Pour me contacter, pour me dire que tu as adoré (ou pas du tout mais j'y crois pas) ou encore me suggérer un artiste pour le prochain épisode, tu peux m'écrire à contact@lavoixdessillons.comGros Naze te souhaite une très bonne écoute. Join us at the Ladies of the Mill Summit - Nashville - July 21 & 22 (https://www.ladiesofthemill.com/) Live, hands-on course using anaxgum pink composite and PREAT Corp. implant components to create lifelike gingiva on implant prosthetics - During LOTM on Saturday July 22 (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pink-esthetics-with-anaxgum-at-the-ladies-of-the-mill-summit-registration-314758911377) We love our stories of family taking over the family lab. One such family is the Perricone's. Andrew Perricone grew up in his mother's lab. Even after going to dental technology school, Andrew still started in the model room and worked his way up. Getting involved early in digital, Andrew knew it was the future. Now running GPS Digital Dental Lab (https://gpsdental.com/), Andrew talks about the history of the lab, staying relevant with technology, and the next thing GPS is working on to take the lab to the next level of success. The fastest growing product at Gro3X (https://www.gro3x.com/) are the Gro3X Aligners. Gro3X Aligners are only available from Gro3X Aligner certified labs: Why? Because they believe in the synergies that are being created between you, the dental office, and your lab. And they want to further leverage these synergies. Their aligners are used as a pre-treatment to a larger restorative esthetic case, to widen gaps prior to placing implants, to close a diastema, ease crowding, and simply enhance your patient's smiles. Even for your Essix retainer needs your Gro3X aligner certified lab can help. Look for a Gro3X Aligner certified lab near you, such as Castle Dental Lab (http://www.castlelab.com/) in San Antonio, TX (ask for Blaine), AMK Dental Lab (https://www.amkdentallaboratory.com/) in O'Neill, NE (ask for Anne), Staggs Dental Lab (https://www.facebook.com/staggsdental) in McCoole Maryland (ask for Derrick), AA Dental Design (https://www.aadentaldesign.com/) in Murrieta, CA (ask for Frankie), and many, many more… For a complete listing of Gro3X Aligner Certified Labs go to www.gro3x.com There are 3D Print resins for models that do a decent job, then there is Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/) VeriModel OS. Dr. Michael Scherer, a prosthodontist from Sonora, CA says “Whip Mix VeriModel OS is one of the finest model resins I have ever worked with. It's amazing”. The popular resins offer the dental laboratory a high quality, smooth surface finish, extreme precision, reliable accuracy, and fine detail. They can be used in 385 and 405 nanometer printers, and are compatible with silicone-base separators. VeriModel OS print resins are available in Ivory (https://www.whipmix.com/products/verimodel-os-ivory-dental-resin/), Golden Brown (https://www.whipmix.com/products/verimodel-os-golden-brown-dental-resin/), Grey (https://www.whipmix.com/products/verimodel-os-grey-dental-resin/), and White (https://www.whipmix.com/products/verimodel-os-white-dental-resin/) colors for any model application. Finalul sezonului 8. Știri cu filmul Metronom și Kate Bush.
Oriana Fox meets The Golden Brown Girls, Indrani Ashe and Shannon Tamara Lewis to discuss the imagined futures that their eponymously titled web series presents. Grey-haired, witty and optimistic, their older selves live out a fantasy that is in distinct contrast to their lived reality in an age of austerity. Ashe and Lewis also discuss the show's centring of women of colour protagonists. Finally, the three arrive at a plan for a future episode in which Oriana will play a cameo appearance. This interview was recorded live on Instagram in May 2021 as part of Oriana's digital residency at Mimosa House Gallery. You can watch the original video here. Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show. The Golden Brown Girls project was founded in 2014 in London by visual artists Shannon Tamara Lewis and Indrani Ashe. Soon after they invited another artist, Sara Umar to write herself into the script. It's now a growing network of women and creative professionals from across the globe with individual and collaborative practices. Their web series was envisioned as a method of imagining the artists' futures, a stage for their political concerns and a way to create new social structures with like-minded individuals. Indrani Ashe is a US-born, Goldsmiths-educated, Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist of Bengali and white American descent whose practice speaks to the experience of the body as a political vessel, wresting the narrative from hegemonical structures. Ashe was interviewed on a previous episode of this podcast, which you can listen to here. Follow her on Instagram @theshadowarchivistShannon Tamara Lewis is a Canadian artist of Caribbean descent, who also studied at Goldsmiths, University of London, and is based in Berlin. In addition to founding The Golden Brown Girls, she is a painter whose figurative canvases combine bizarre imagery and uncanny landscapes to form a fantastical world. Have you struggled getting out there and getting more work from dental offices? Not every lab has the resources from a sales team, but you can learn a lot from a lab that does. Lauren Crowe came to Blue Box Dental Lab (https://www.blueboxdental.com/) with a lot of clinical experience. Always working hard, Lauren worked her way up to manager and eventually became the Director of Sales for Leixir (https://www.leixir.com/) (a group of 5 labs). Lauren talks getting lab sales, struggles of selling to dentists, selling to DSOs, and how with a team of 13 salespeople, training and providing services and not products. The term legend is often over used but this week podcast guest is a true legend in every sense of the word. To talk about the upcoming tour we chat to JJ Burnel of the Stranglers . Formed in 1974 the band have had 24 top 40 hits and 18 top 40 albums. Tracks like Peaches, No More Heroes, Hanging Around and Golden Brown are so instantly recognizable and still get regular airplay. They are on tour to promote there album Dark Matters which features Dave Greenfield who sadly passed away in May 2020. We hope you enjoy the chat with JJ. We also run through the news of the day and have a review of Kenneth Branagh's new movie Belfast
Let's start 2022 with a different kind of guest. What is a great way to show your passion for dental technology? Denture Babes (https://www.denturebabes.com/) shirt? Tooth decal on your car? How about an amazing denture tattoo? Well we have the perfect guest for you. Ed Johnson is a tattooist out of Portland Oregon who specializes in teeth and denture tattoo. When has anyone ever said life in a dental lab is easy? It's not. There are many struggles and challenges every day. Todd Blankenbecler and Andy Stark from EasyRX (https://easyrxcloud.com/) have a solution for a few of the issues. Easy Rx is a software that can run production in the lab, but it also has a clinician aspect that allows the two to communicate efficiently. Oh, did we mention that it can also prep your digital scans for model printing? They talk about how two different software companies combined, how they deal with the different business models, and what makes EasyRx stand out over the other production software. Denture Babes website (https://www.denturebabes.com/) The first 500 orders placed between November 1st and November 14th will all get a FREE LIMITED EDITION Metallic Voices From the Bench sticker! Swiss School of Prosthetics 2022 course dates! (https://www.ssop.swiss/en-us/all-dates-venues) Gro3X (https://www.gro3x.com/) is a dental supply, service, and marketing company. There are 3D Print resins for models that do a decent job, then there is Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/) VeriModel OS. For more information, call (800) 626-5651, or visit www.whipmix.com. Have you seen the high prices of precious metal these days? They are close to record highs on gold and palladium. With those high precious metal prices, you are paying a high cost for your alloys. We know that you are using less Precious metal in your lab these days, but if you send in half of what you sent in 5 years ago ,your scrap return will be higher than it was 5 years ago ,because of the high PM prices . You owe it to yourself to find a trusted, reputable refining company. Look no further! Kulzer refining (https://www.kulzerus.com/en_us/en_us/heraeuspreciousmetalsrefining/scraprefining.aspx) has been tested, trusted and reputable for over 100 years. They burn, melt and assay all under one roof at their state-of-the-art refining facility in Wartburg Tennessee. They have doubled their production capacity to ensure your scrap return within 2 weeks. With all the non-precious material that has become present in today's restorations it is important that we ensure the assay sample is homogenous. At Kulzer (https://www.kulzerus.com/en_us/en_us/home_9/home.aspx), they take the extra step to X-ray the top and bottom after they melt the bar to make sure the precious metal percentages--- are the same. If not, copper is added until they are positive the bar is homogeneous. We know this step is very important to get a precise assay result. Their reimbursement to the customer is after our 10% refining fee. They have zero additional fees. If you need any free shipping containers, which contain a UPS prepaid, full insured label, please visit mydental360.com/refining or call the Director of Precious Metal Refining, Tony Circelli, directly at (914) 906-1843. Special Guests: Andy Stark and Todd Blankenbecler.

Writer and director Alice Wu talks to Samira Ahmed about her new film, The Half of It, a queer love triangle that draws on the Cyrano de Bergerac story. Set in small town America, the film explores the Asian American experience and navigating love, friendship and fitting in at High School. Among the anxieties associated with the coronavirus pandemic many readers are finding it more and more difficult to concentrate on a book. But the modern adult's ability to concentrate has been under pressure from the myriad sources of digital text we confront daily. To explore the psychology and neurology of modern reading, Samira is joined by author and screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce and academic Maryanne Woolf, author of Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World. When the baritone Peter Brathwaite's opera engagements were cancelled because of the pandemic he took up the Getty Museum's challenge to remake paintings with household objects. He searches for works featuring black people and what began as a pastime has developed into a serious artistic project winning wide attention. He tells Samira Ahmed what has drawn him to this, how he goes about it and what he has learned. The Stranglers' keyboard player Dave Greenfield died on Sunday having been infected with the coronavirus. He wrote their best-known song, Golden Brown, which, involving a harpsichord an eddying melody and varying time signatures, is an unusual work for a punk band. Composer and Radio 3 presenter Hannah Peel explains the allure of this sophisticated piece, which depends on a strange rhythm shift, from 12/8 to 13/8. And The Nan and Elsie Transcripts, a micro-psychodrama recorded remotely by members of the BBC's Radio Drama Company. Presenter: Samira Ahmed Producer: Julian May

DJ EMERSON on: - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DjEmerson - SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/djemerson HOW I MET THE BASS on: - Facebook: www.facebook.com/howimetthebass - Twitter: www.twitter.com/howimetthebass - Mixcloud: www.mixcloud.com/HowIMetTheBass 3 QUESTIONS to DJ EMERSON: Q: You met the bass in a really different way. Tell us about the story of your early days. A: Well, I always loved music from the first time I heard The Rolling Stones and MC5 Records of my father when I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. When I heard "Golden Brown" on the radio one night while driving in my parents car I asked them how they made these sounds and that I wanna make music too. I had no idea how to do it but I always had the urge to produce the music I like myself in any way or another. So i got my first guitar. As time went by I got more and more into the industrial stuff like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, White Zombie and just like that I ended up listening to a lot of Breakbeat and Drum And Bass and I started mixing and then I got infected with the Techno virus. Q: You´ve been inside the Techno scene for a very long time yet. How would you describe the development of the last 20 years? A: These days it´s much more about social media and stuff like that back then you basically released a fat record and went on tour for a year. Now you have to take care of much more stuff. It´s difficult to stand out since we have so many aspiring and established DJs. I wish people would listen better in the clubs. How good the DJ actually mixes and how he selects his music. What tracks he plays. Does he just play what everybody else is playing or does he try to show you interesting new music. It´s still the most important thing! Not what this guy posts before, after and during his show. Studio wise I really like how the sound design has developed and how good many of todays productions actually sound. You can make so much with the software nowadays. Q: Which Emerson projects can we expect soon? A: I am currently releasing the remixes for my album with mixes by Johannes Heil, Tales Of The Machines, Yan Cook, A. Mochi, Oliver Deutschmann, Xhei, Conrad Von Orton, Kai Kinkel, Pawn Shop People & Matasism. Then I am preparing a series of micro.fon partys all across europe and I am producing tracks with my homie Thomas Hoffknecht for a collab release.

Fílalag fjallar um The Stranglers í dag og fíla lag þeirra Golden Brown.
On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we hang out with the one and only, Zac Griffith of Summit Productions. About two years ago I was scoping-out archery elk hunting films on Vimeo and I came across ZAC’s channel and a film called “Golden Brown.” I hit the play button. I loved it. First of all, late-season archery elk hunts are very uncommon; I saw this dude bowhunting elk in a freakin’ blizzard--the contrast was beautiful; the elk “popped” against the snow like so much “Brown Gold.” And Zac’s edit of the film was all his own--completely unique; in true Zac Griffith style. Zac marches to the beat of his own drum. And I respect this. Because Zac doesn’t produce content to please a broad audience. Zac creates content that speaks to him. His movie style is all his own, like his flat-brim hats and rap music; which seem to drive some country folk crazy. For my part, I like Zac Griffith. I like his raw and real, what-you-see-is-what-you-get personality. Zac doesn’t pretend to be anything but who he is. And I like his artistry. It’s different. And although not all of it resonates with me, I like how Zac bridges the gap between his world and where he grew up to that of the more traditional hunting community--making those inner-city dudes feel welcome in the mountains, with bow in hand, with the rest of us, connecting with nature. Hugh Cornwell was one of the major figures in early British punk rock. He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter in The Stranglers, the hugely influential band who scaled the charts with hits like No More Heroes, Peaches, and Always The Sun, and always marched to the beat of their own drum. Hugh smuggled Leon Trotsky into the charts and more covertly heroin – the real subject of their 1981 hit single Golden Brown. But he left the band 25 years ago to concentrate on his own recordings – earlier this month he released The Fall And Rise Of Hugh Cornwell, the first anthology of his post-Stranglers career, and he’s just begun a major acoustic tour of the UK. Here Hugh talks about his formative years in Kentish Town, North London, the band he formed with schoolmate Richard Thompson (later of Fairport Convention fame), and why he decided to go solo. Along the way he discusses the drug bust that saw him do time in Pentonville prison, biochemistry, his novels and his journey from entertaining gobbing yobs at those dangerously thrilling early punk gigs to literary snobs at the more refined Hay-on-Wye literary festival. Here’s a little suggestion I have for writers of fantasy and horror: fairies should be terrifying. They are not your friends.
