Coming live* from under the gate 13 tree outside Stanford Stadium, a weekly look at Stanford football from some longtime fans with just the right mix of optimism and jadedness.
Welcome Troy Taylor, Stanford's new head football coach! We talk about Taylor's background and what we think of the hire. And now the podcast isn't going to be cancelled!
Emergency Podcast! After the final game of the season, Stanford coach David Shaw announced he was stepping down from the head coaching job. So much for our week off/retirement... We talk about Shaw's legacy, what/who we definitely DON'T want in our next coach, and pull some random names out of a hat that could be coming to Stanford. Since we don't know anything, it's safe to assume no one we mention will be our next coach.
The season is thankfully almost over. Stanford blew a lead to lose Big Game, so Cal kept the axe. We talk about the game, look ahead to BYU, and express confusion over Notre Dame being ranked #15. We'll be back sometime in December for a season recap (unless exciting news breaks sooner). Happy Thanksgiving! (Follow us on Twitter @Gate13podcast and send emails to gate13podcast@gmail.com)
As expected Utah crushed Stanford 42-7. We don't have much to say about that game, but we DO talk about the upcoming 125th Big Game at Cal! A true Toilet Bowl between garbage 3-7 teams, how fun!
This sucks. It's just to hopeless. But for some reason we're still doing this (at least this week). Stupid sports. Follow us on Twitter at @gate13podcast and send us emails at gate13podcast@gmail.com. Share your rants!
It's week 10 of college football! This week we talk about how much Stanford hated fun in their blowout loss to UCLA, and look ahead to the winnable game against WSU this weekend. Bowl chances are still alive!
Who needs Touchdowns? We discuss Josh Karty's big 15-14 win over ASU, and wonder whether we'll score a TD against UCLA this week!
Stanford wins! We discuss the big upset on the road at Notre Dame, and talk about our chances at getting the first conference victory of the season this week at home against the NoHerm Devils. Email us at gate13podcast@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter at @Gate13podcast.
Stanford found a new way to lose this year! Which, I guess was more exciting than the last few, but still sucked. We talk about the close loss, and look ahead to a mediocre Notre Dame team that we would smoke if we weren't terrible this year. Follow us on Twitter at @Gate13podcast, and send feedback and comments and whatnot to Gate13podcast@gmail.com!
It's week 6 of College Football! Stanford suffered another blow out loss, dropping 45-27 to #12 Oregon. We reflect on the loss, our lack of hope, and wonder how badly we'll lose to our first unranked FBS opponent of the season, Oregon State.
Stanford suffered a depressing 40-22 loss at now #15 Washington last weekend. We lament the start to the season, and look ahead to our third straight top-25 opponent, at #13 Oregon. Also, we had a mic snafu this week, so we apologize for the audio quality. This is unacceptable, and if we don't fix our problems we deserve to be fired. Follow us @Gate13podcast on Twitter and email feedback to gate13podcast@gmail.com!
We're back from the bye, feeling rested, but not optimistic! We talk about the loss to U$C, our new look offense, and our upcoming road game against UW. Fun fact, UW hasn't played a game on the road since 2019! Make sure to subscribe, and follow us on Twitter at @Gate13Podcast. Send feedback and questions to gate13podcast@gmail.com!
It's week 2 of the 2022 season! Stanford took care of business against Colgate, and now faces Southern Cal with new coach Lincoln Riley and TWENTY FOUR TRANSFERS! We'll see if we can get another $C coach fired two games into the season! Also, apologies for the audio quality, we had to use an improvised recording set-up this week. We'll be back to sounding OK next episode! Tweet at us @gate13podcast and email us gate13podcast@gmail.com
College football is back! Stanford kicks off the 2022 season at home vs the FCS Colgate Raiders, Saturday at 5PM. But, since there's not a ton to talk about Colgate, we spend the episode previewing the 2022 Stanford roster and 2022 Stanford season, including our game by game predictions! Will Stanford suck? Yes, but how much! Follow us on Twitter at @gate13podcast, and email questions and feedback to gate13podcast@gmail.com,
Welp, the Pac-12 is dead. Or going to be. So much for an uneventful offseason. We're here to talk about what the hell just happened, and what it means for Stanford (maybe, who knows what's gonna happen). Enjoy an hour of us both ranting about how much Stanford sucks and being obnoxiously pompous and delusional about how great Stanford is! As always, ask us questions on Twitter at @Gate13podcast or email gate13podcast@gmail.com!
Stanford's miserable season comes to an end with a 45-14 loss to Notre Dame. We briefly discuss the game, and discuss the season overall at length. We also take a quick look at the Pac-12 Bowl games! A quick note, we recorded this before the All conference teams we're announced, so slight correction, Eric was RIGHT in thinking 2 defensive players would make all conference. We don't think it should have happened, but who cares. Tweet at us @Gate13Podcast, or email us at gate13podcast@gmail.com.
At least it's all almost over... Find us on Twitter @Gate13podcast, and send feedback to gate13podcast@gmail.com!
Cal is poo. Hopefully we are not also poo, like we were against OSU. Sigh.
Welp. This week we talk about Stanford's woeful 52-7 loss to Utah. It's like it's 2006 all over again! We also look at the other misery in the conference, and look ahead to this weeks game at Oregon State, the last road game of the season!
Well. That sucked. This week we talk about our crappy loss, make ourselves feel better looking at other crappy losses around the conference, and talk about how much Utah will beat us by. The game vs Utah is FRIDAY at 7:30PM on FS1.
We're back after the bye week to discuss the loss to WSU we wish we'd forgotten, and look ahead to our home game against UW this Saturday. Can we keep the home winning streak against the Huskies alive??
This week we discuss Stanfords miserable loss to Arizona State on the road, but take solace in the knowledge that the North sucks! We also look ahead to our game at Washington State this Saturday, hoping to break a 4 game losing streak to the Cougs. (apologies for any weird audio this week, we were recording and editing under abnormal conditions.)
It's week 6 of college football! This week we're celebrating Stanford's thrilling OT win over #3 Oregon, and look ahead to what might be our actual hardest game of the season, this Friday night at Arizona State. Of course, since it's on a Friday, we're guaranteed to win.
It's week 5 of college football! Stanford drops to 2-2 on the season after the 35-24 loss to UCLA. We talk about the first home game in years, the loss, and look ahead to the upset opportunity against Oregon this week at 12:30PM on Saturday! Send us questions and comments, gate13podcast@gmail.com, or on Twitter @Gate13Podcast!
It's week 4 of college football! This week we talk about the satisfying victory 41-23 victory at Vanderbilt (and some not so satisfying parts of it), look ahead to Stanford's first home game in almost two years vs UCLA this week, and reflect on the Pac-12 sucking. Send us feedback at gate13podcast@gmail.com, or @Gate13Podcast on Twitter!
Stanford bounces back from their miserable opening week loss to dominate U$C in week 2 at the Coliseum! We discuss the win, and why it felt so great. Sadly, we recorded the episode before the news of Clay Helton's firing, so we didn't get to laugh about that this week (we'll save it for next week). Stanford heads to Nashville this week to play Vanderbilt at 5PM Pacific Time on Saturday. Send us feedback at gate13podcast@gmail.com, or @Gate13Podcast on Twitter!
It's week 2 of the 2021 season! This week we complain about Stanford's dismal 24-7 loss to Kansas State in the opener, but take solace in the fact that we were better than most of the Pac-12 North. We also look ahead to this weeks road game against U$C, Saturday at 7:30PM, broadcast on Fox. Get in touch with us on Twitter @Gate13podcast, or send us questions/comments/feedback at gate13podcast@gmail.com

The 2020 season is over! This week we dig into Stanford's thrilling season finale win over UCLA in the Rose Bowl, talk about some of the Cardinal's all conference honors, and give our thoughts on the 4-2 season overall. Congrats on surviving 2020, happy New Year, stay healthy, and we'll be back in a few months with our first offseason special!
Stanford continued their winning streak with a 27-24 victory over Oregon State. We break down the good, bad, and lucky from the victory, and look ahead as the Road Dogs wrap up this weird season at 4PM on Saturday against UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Rose Bowl!
Stanford gets its second straight win, knocking off number 22 Washington in one of the best games we've seen in a long time from the Cardinal. We discuss the win, then talk about our upcoming home game on the road against Oregon State! As always, most of what we discuss became out of date a few hours after recording. So, Jermar Jefferson is playing against us, a bunch of more of our guys are injured, and UW cancelled their game with Oregon so they could back into the Pac-12 North title. Send your questions and comments to gate13podcast@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter @Gate13Podcast!
The Axe is back home in Palo Alto after a stellar special teams performance leads the Stanford to a 24-23 victory over Cal. This week we reflect on the victory and the return to normalcy in the world that will come from it. We also look ahead to the Washington game, and talk about Stanford's new life on the road. Send us your questions and feedback at gate13podcast@gmail.com, and be sure to follow us on Twitter at @Gate13Podcast
Stanford got an unexpected bye last week with their game vs WSU cancelled because of Covid issues at WSU. Which means it's time to focus on the 123rd Big Game! Cal is poo (maybe for real this year). We discuss our chances, and get read some Covid related listener mail! Remember, you too can have your emails read out on the podcast, just email gate13podcast@gmail.com!
It's week 3 of Pac-12 football, and Stanford is off to an 0-2 start after falling to Colorado in the home opener. Wazzu comes to town this week, with a new coach and a new QB. Will the calming echoes of the sapling forest lull the Cougs to sleep? Hey AD, can we at least get a cardboard cutout of Popcorn Guy?
It's week 2 of Pac-12 Football! This week we try to figure out if we're as bad as the score looked in week 1, and guess whether we'll bounce back against Colorado. We also ponder how to factor Covid into our stupid prop bets. Make sure to subscribe, give us a rating and review, and send your questions and feedback to gate13podcast@gmail.com. Also feel free to bug us on Twitter @Gate13podcast.
Pac-12 football is back! We preview Stanford's 2020 roster, the Oregon game, and make our overall season predictions for this weird abbreviated season.
With no football, we've got our longest episode ever! I mean, what else do you have to do? This episode we're chatting about Stanford in the NFL draft, and our thoughts on the top-10 wins of the David Shaw era list put out by the Stanford Athletics department recently. If you want more quarantine episodes, send us some questions! Email Gate13podcast@gmail.com or tag us on Twitter at @Gate13podcast.
February is over! That means NFL declarations are done, recruits are signed, and the team is ready for Spring. We get together during the offseason to talk about who's leaving, who's (surprisingly) returning, and who some of the new recruits coming in are. Also, we recorded this before Stanford announced the new Inside Linebackers coach. So, we don't talk about him, but you can read all about Eric Sanders on the Stanford website: https://gostanford.com/news/2020/2/24/football-stanford-hires-sanders.aspx
Stanfords football season comes to an ignominious end with a 45-24 loss to Notre Dame. We take a look at the game, and at our depressing 4-8 season as a whole. We also look at the Pac-12 bowl slate, and which of our guys made the All Conference team despite our overall crumminess!
The season comes to a close for the Cardinal this weekend hosting Notre Dame. We discuss our loss of the axe for the first in 9 years, and ponder whether there's any hope of keeping our home winning streak against Notre Dame alive. Isaac also reveals the real culprit for our crumminess this year.
Stanford aims to make it ten straight wins against Cal, with bowl eligibility on the line. Come on guys, we want to go to Vegas! Or Shreveport, whatever!
Week 12 of college football has Stanford heading to Pullman to take on WSU. We talk about last week's depressing loss to Colorado and answer the question, "....does this mean we're bad?"
We're back from our bye week break to talk about Stanford's bounce back win over Arizona and look ahead to the game at Colorado on Saturday. We also take an overview of the Pac-12 and chat a bit about bowl possibilities (we're pretty sure we're not going to play Pitt in the Sun Bowl this year).
It's week 9 of College Football! This week we identify the cause of all of Stanford's losses this season, and apologize profusely for it being our fault. We also look at our game this week against Arizona, and respond to some listener mail about whether we're at "Quick Kick" level.
UCLA visits Stanford for a Thursday night Pac-12 after dark tilt this week. We talk about how UCLA is bad, some favorite memories of UCLA games on the Farm, and more in our abbreviated bye week preview. Review and Subscribe to the Gate 13 Podcast!
This week Stanford is on a bye, but we couldn't wait to talk about Stanford's upset win over the Washington Huskies. We also get into how Stanford could still win the North, and whether we're going to Shreveport. We'll be back early next week with a UCLA preview episode before the Thursday Oct 17 tilt with the Bruins.
It's week 6 of college football! This week we breakdown Stanford's nail-biting win at Corvallis (better than 2017?), the insanity of the Pac-12, and whether we have a shot this week at home against Washington!
We try to figure out how Stanford lost to Oregon when their defense did so much better, and look ahead to our best shot at a road win on the season. Also, the Pac-12 chaos has already begun, and it is hilarious.
This week we look back on the depressing loss to UCF, and ahead to this weeks home game against Oregon! We're great at home, so nothing to worry about!
Stanford tries to shake off Los Angeles by traveling to the swamps of Florida to visit #17 UCF. With all these injuries, maybe it's not the worst time to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth...
