This episode is an exciting football discussion featuring Coach Shaw of the Waco Warriors soccer team and Coach Ludens of the Minneapolis soccer team. Coaches provide insights into their teams' performance this year while giving an overview of what to expect in the coming games. Coach Shaw reveals that the Waco Warriors have an impressive 3-3 record for the season so far, with a signature win against a strong Danville team. On improving their game, Shaw highlights the team members' increased strength and speed which is translating into a better understanding of the game. Looking ahead, he adds that their focus lies on improving their positions and taking one game at a time, rather than worrying about playoff seeds. Talking about Minneapolis soccer team's strategy, Coach Ludens insists on focusing on getting through the conference and the regular schedule, without investing too much thought in playoff possibilities. His team has four conference games lined up, starting with a much-anticipated match against Waco. Both coaches also discuss players to watch out for, detailing those who have been making significant contributions on the field. For Waco, it's the Luchens brothers, while Alessandro, a foreign exchange student, is leading Minneapolis with 17 goals in the season. The episode concludes by acknowledging the way both teams have bought into their coach's philosophy, resulting in improved play and promising records. The discussion has been insightful for fans wanting to know more about the teams and their upcoming actions.

More importantly, Coach Shaw has impacted lives globally through youth coaching and charity work around the world. This episode is filled with great anecdotes from a great man. Thanks Coach Shaw!

My guest today is David Shaw, head coach of the Stanford football team. In this episode, he talks about what it’s been like to coach players like Andrew Luck and Christian McCaffrey at an elite academic institution like Stanford and lessons he’s learned working with guys like Brian Billick and Jon Gruden. Coach Shaw has been pursued by NFL teams and shares advice on how he thinks about his professional career, what makes him happy in life, and what one NFL GM said was the reason he pursued him. We don’t discuss it in the episode, but last year ESPN did a segment on his brother’s battle against a rare, aggressive skin cancer, and the hail mary blood marrow transplant Coach Shaw was able to provide his him, which saved his life. It’s one of the most moving stories I’ve seen and I urge you to check the link in the show notes to watch and consider becoming a borrow marrow donor by going to bethematch.org.

This week on Inside the Headset we are featuring Stanford University Head Coach David Shaw’s general session from the 2016 AFCA Convention. Coach Shaw highlights the significance of developing meaningful relationships, discusses the importance of remaining patient with young players, and shares the value of building a consistent culture. David Shaw is currently in his 10th season as Stanford’s Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football. A 1995 Stanford graduate, Shaw is the 34th head coach in Stanford history, and the winningest coach in program history. Throughout his time at Stanford, he has led the Cardinal to three Pac-12 titles and a pair of Rose Bowl wins in three trips to The Granddaddy of Them All. Under Shaw's leadership, Stanford has won at least 11 games in four different seasons, and has appeared in a bowl game in eight of nine seasons. Shaw’s coaching resume also includes nine years of NFL experience with the Philadelphia Eagles (1997), Oakland Raiders (1998-2001) and Baltimore Ravens (2002-05). Shaw began his NFL coaching career as the quality control coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. After three seasons of quality control with the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2000, Shaw moved into the role of quarterbacks coach in 2001, as the Raiders won a second straight AFC West title. Shaw’s last coaching job in the NFL with Baltimore included a stint as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. His tenure included an AFC North title in 2003. He launched his coaching career at Western Washington, where he coached outside linebackers in 1995 and the tight ends in 1996.
