You are the thoughts you believe. And the thoughts you believe, and speak, become the life you live. You're going to have negative thoughts. We all do. But here's the key: they're not from you. No one would choose to think, “You're not enough,” or “There's no hope.” Just like a nightmare, you don't choose those thoughts, they just show up. The good news? You don't have to believe them. In this episode, I'll show you how to stop letting those lies take root and start speaking truth, hope, and purpose into your life. Welcome to The Jon Gordon Podcast! I'm Jon Gordon, and in today's episode, I want to have a real conversation with you about commitment—what it truly looks like, and why it changes everything. I've seen firsthand, through my own life and in the lives of those I love, what happens when we show up fully versus when we hold back. Today, I share a personal story about my mom's unwavering commitment and my own journey toward being a more committed husband, father, and leader. We often talk about how others fall short, but rarely do we turn the spotlight inward. The challenge I have for you is simple: focus on being the most committed person in the room—at work, at home, on your team. Commitment isn't easy. It comes at a cost, whether it's time, energy, or putting others before ourselves. But when we commit, we not only better ourselves, we uplift those around us. Tune in to discover how a shift toward greater commitment can take you, your family, and your team to a higher level. If this message resonates, please share it with someone who might need that extra encouragement today. Let's keep growing together. As a leader, I've learned one truth that changes everything: connection comes before correction. In this Positive Leadership Tip, I share why building trust and showing care is the foundation for real influence. When your team knows you're for them—not against them—they're more open to feedback and more likely to grow. If you want better engagement and long-term success, it starts with how you show up. I hope this encourages you to lead with connection today—and every day. Is Your Team Truly Committed—Or Just Chasing Goals? What separates teams that succeed from those that just survive? It's not talent. It's not resources. It's commitment. This week, I sit down with my great friend Jon Gordon, and we got real about what it takes to build a team that doesn't just perform, but thrives under pressure. Jon's new book, The Seven Commitments of a Great Team, is more than theory—it's the roadmap every leader, entrepreneur, and family builder needs. We talked about why goals aren't enough. Everybody's got goals. But not everybody is committed. Jon broke it down beautifully—commitment is about action. It's about the daily disciplines that align with your vision. Want to make a million dollars this year? That won't happen without commitments to how you show up, how you serve, and how you lead your team. “Commitment is going to cost you something,” Jon said. “You have to ask yourself—what are you willing to give, and what are you willing to give up?” One of the biggest takeaways? The power of connection and love on a team. That might sound soft, but it's not. Love is what makes great teams fight for each other. It's what transforms a locker room, a boardroom, or a household. “You'll never have commitment without connection,” Jon said—and he's right. If your team's not committed to each other, they won't be committed to the mission. And when adversity hits, that's when the cracks show. We also touched on something every leader needs to hear: emotional fatigue. Carrying the weight of your business, your team, your family—it gets heavy. If you lose your why, you lose your fire. “The crime isn't that the passion ran out—it's that you stayed around after it did,” Jon shared. That line stopped me in my tracks. Leaders, you've got to reignite your mission or risk slowly fading out. Key Takeaways: The difference between having goals and living with commitment Why devotion—not discipline—creates lasting change How prayer and purposeful rituals can unlock creative breakthroughs The role of connection and love in high-performance teams How to lead through adversity without losing your energy or edge This one hit home for me on a personal level, and I know it will for you too. Go grab The Seven Commitments of a Great Team. It's a game-changer. MAX OUT.
Start your week with fuel for your mindset. In this kickoff episode of Positive Mindset Monday, I share how adversity and even your adversaries can become partners in your growth. With a personal story from my high school football days, I hope to help you reframe your battles as blessings—and reminds you that every challenge is making you stronger. It's not about avoiding the struggle. It's about rising through it. Let this be the encouragement you need to face the week ahead with strength, perspective, and purpose. It was a picture perfect day in the Emerald City as the Washington Huskies got after it on Day 10 of their spring football campaign. The guys from Dawgman.com - Scott Eklund and Chris Fetters - offered up their thoughts on a day where the players weren't in full pads - just shells and shorts - and they were coming off a 110-play scrimmage just two days prior. That meant a ton of cleanup work, more install for the offense and defense, and also a chance for some of the players that haven't been able to scrimmage - like Denzel Boston and Omari Evans on offense and Ephesians Prysock and Tacario Davis on defense - to run around a bunch and get back to doing some actual football. The highlight of the day was the final team period, one where the offense was given 80 seconds to go the length of the field. They had to score, as the defense was ahead 26-21. The number-one offense, led by Demond Williams, got all the way to the 5-yard line with 1 second left on the clock but couldn't find the end zone on their final play. The second team, however, found success through a Kai Horton pass to a diving Jace Burton in the corner of the end zone over safety CJ Christian. The entire offense went nuts and sprinted over to Burton to celebrate the big play. Scott and Chris talked about the ending team period, as well as a couple players on both sides of the ball that stood out to them during the day. They also remarked on some of the things that caught their eye during the individual periods. Those periods are a great time to watch the coaches really get to work on proper technique. Scott gave an update on the one recruit that was at practice today - 2027 Puyallup OL Gecova Doyal - before finishing the podcast with their final thoughts. It's pretty invaluable.” [20:08] - Thomas “The moment that we hired this architect and he walked into the doors of the city hall with us, the city planners and everybody on staff took us seriously. We were no longer two kids that had a dream and were trying to open up school. That is what gave us the credibility that we needed to be taken seriously.” [24:53] - Thomas “We were able to build a wait list and have enough desire for what we were offering, where we were able to be in the green on day one.” [27:11] - Thomas “They (your team) get confidence from good leadership.” [34:22] - Thomas “I'm constantly looking at what other centers in our area are paying, and it's my goal to pay more than them.” [35:51] - Thomas “It's obviously an income for my family, but it's provided a community and just a sense of fulfillment in creating jobs, creating happiness through, through the kids and students and parents that are under your care. Welcome back to the ProfitSchool podcast Business Unfiltered with Mercer and Jeff Sauer today's topic is Keeping Great Team Members. Beyond Happiness vs. Engagement: Jeff and Mercer discuss how managers shouldn't focus on making employees "happy" (which they can't control) but rather on creating an engaging environment where team members can thrive and grow naturally. The Growth Factor: The key insight is that people stay with companies as long as they learn and grow. Creating an environment of continuous growth and development is crucial for retention, more than just high compensation. The Abundance Mindset: Success in retaining talent comes from adopting an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity mentality. This includes investing in team members through training, coaching, and professional development opportunities. Building the Inner Circle: Bringing valuable team members into the decision-making process and teaching them to think strategically helps create lasting engagement and loyalty, especially in small businesses where individual contributions matter more. Recognition and Results: The importance of celebrating successes publicly while handling challenges privately, creating an environment where team members feel supported even when facing difficulties. Investment in People: Mercer and Jeff believe investing in team members through education, bonuses, recognition, and growth opportunities is crucial for long-term retention, especially in smaller businesses where institutional knowledge is vital.
There are many good reasons to look to others. For example, you might need expert advice or feedback to improve your performance. But there's one reason not to, and, that is, to determine your self-worth. When you look to someone else to define you or tell you how to live your life, you lose a lot. And if you find it hard to believe you'd ever let someone else influence you in those ways, you'd be surprised. Michael Gervais is a high-performance psychologist who's worked with elite athletes, artists, and leaders. Through his work, he's learned that one of the biggest obstacles standing in their way is fear of other people's opinions. And he's seen just how crippling those fears can be. That's why he's written the book, The First Rule of Mastery: Stop Worrying about What People Think of You. In talking to Michael, I learned how our biology sets us up to place a lot of weight on other people's opinions. I also learned how social media is designed to reinforce that fear. Fortunately, Michael shared insights on what to do. I walked away feeling empowered. Read the post If you're in ministry, you're most likely working with teams. Pastors work with ministry staff, leadership teams, church councils, boards, deacons, and missions. Student and Kid's Ministry Leaders work with volunteers, parents, and students. Worship leaders work with band members, vocalists, tech ministry, and potentially other teams. Whether your teams are short-term or have been serving together for years, it might be good to remind yourself of the following five commitments and share them with your teams. Consider this list as a team member as well as a team leader: 1) Commit to giving 100% 2) Commit to getting better 3) Commit to staying positive. 4) Commit to the team's mission. 5) Commit to each other. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/timprice/support

Calling all sports fans — you guys are going to love this one!In this episode, Sam interviews JR Butler, founder and CEO of Shift Group, which focuses on bridging the gap for military veterans & former athletes as they enter into the corporate world. Throughout the conversation, JR emphasizes the importance of resilience, coachability, and teamwork in recruitment — and the fact that a 4.0 GPA can't speak to the true abilities of a candidate. Some of the innate values of those with athletic and military backgrounds make them highly trainable (and great team players!) — and JR shares how Shift Group trains and prepares them for success in sales roles and beyond.Ultimately, the conversation highlights the significance of a team-first mindset and the long-term benefits of investing in early-career talent — and thinking outside the corporate box in doing so.
