Not ready to let go of the Halloween season? The ghouls have you covered. Listen along as we talk all about the highs and lows of our 2025 Halloween season.
This episode's guest should be quite familiar by now as he's joined host Bill Calkins multiple times to cover a range of topics related to IPM from a pest- and disease-specific angle, as well as seasonal controls and prevention strategies and even weed management. Broch Martindale is the National Nursery & Greenhouse Strategic Account Manager at Corteva and downloads of his episodes are always strong proving that loyal listeners and many others across the industry are well aware of his ability to share detailed research-based cultural information blended with real-world greenhouse and nursery production experience. Check out the show notes for links to all of Broch's 2025 episodes covering a range of topics. This time, Bill and Broch look back on 2025—spring, summer and fall production—to highlight pests and disease that were particularly troublesome over the past 12 months, as well as products and approaches growers used to effectively go to battle before and after symptoms emerged. They talk spring pests like aphids and thrips that were prevalent coast to coast, mum diseases and issues due to warmer-than-average weather and poinsettia growers facing pathogens and insect/mite pests. Broch also went into detail about how investments in research and development by companies like Corteva drive product effectiveness, even when active ingredients might look alike on labels. Did you know that particle size can dictate the amount of active ingredient actually getting to where it needs to be for full mortality—which, in turn, reduces the risk of resistance? Jacki Smith | Women's Volleyball Season Recap | November 26, 2025
Season 6 Kickoff! Mike and Tarlin are back for a special edition of Running It Back, diving into the biggest sports stories for lessons in leadership, accountability and the struggle for growth. The conversation starts with an update on Mike's Mets (the only thing softening the blow is a wealthy owner) and Tarlin's dog before flexing into three essential topics: WNBA: The Commissioner vs. The Player Napheesa "Phee" Collier, Vice President of the WNBA Players Association and co-founder of the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league, put the entire league office on blast, labeling them the "worst leadership" at a moment when the league is experiencing unprecedented growth driven by stars like Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese. Player First vs. Management First: Compare the WNBA's current position to the NBA's profitability years under David Stern. Is Cathy Engelbert missing the story by not putting her most valuable assets—the players—first? The Cost of Growth: Revenue is up, but is management willing to take the long-term investment view required to scale the league and pay the players what they deserve? A Familiar Narrative: Tarlin draws parallels to the massive lockouts in the NHL and MLB in the mid-'90s, warning that the WNBA's current crisis of leadership threatens to squander its boom moment. NBA: Ballmer, Kawhi, and the Clippers' Stink Steve Ballmer's “hardcore” Clippers franchise faces a serious challenge following the surfacing of a no-show job deal for Kawhi Leonard's uncle with a carbon offset company, Aspiration—a company in which Ballmer was investing. The Madoff-Type Scheme: Mark Cuban called it "a shady carbon offset deal where the math 'is not mathing.'" Lessons from History: This scandal echoes the Joe Smith salary cap violation with the Timberwolves in 1999, which led to heavy penalties. Will Adam Silver take action against the ego-driven, win-at-all-costs leadership of the Clippers? Independent Journalism: A shout-out to Pablo Torre and his team for their investigative work in surfacing this stink. Golf: The Ryder Cup and the Crisis of Individualism Team Europe, led by the small-ego, unifying captain Luke Donald, dominates the US team, highlighting a fundamental leadership failure for the Americans. The Accidental Captain: Donald's success comes from putting his ego aside and positioning every player to win, a direct contrast to the US side. Rotten on the Inside: The American team's individual success in the singles matches proves they lack the necessary team cohesion and leadership apparatus. The Need for a Colangelo: The US golf program is at a crisis moment, much like USA basketball in the early 2000s. Who is the necessary, unifying leader—the Tiger Woods—needed to build a winning culture for the next generation? Quote of the Episode: "If it's rotten on the inside, it will never grow as much as you want." The 2025 season is almost at an end. The Tour of Guanxi is nearing its exhilarating climax, riders have started to upload their “2025: Completed it, mate” Instagram posts, and Harry and Stu have recorded their final episode of Life In The Peloton's Race Radio. These guys have had a great season; they've been on form from January right the way through to October, and they're really finishing on a high. Here's what old mate Harry had to say about this final episode of LITP's Race Radio: "The 2025 season is over, so it's time to remind ourselves of the amazing racing we enjoyed throughout the year. Stu and I decided to keep it fun in this last ep – not that being serious has ever been our forte – with a few games that you can play along to while listening, including cryptic headlines and picking our teams of the year. Thanks to Mitch for the incredible opportunity this year, and we hope you've all enjoyed our podcasts. See you on the road." As always, I really hope you've enjoyed having Harry and Stu in your ears these past 10 months as much as I have. I've been out of the peloton for a few years now, but having these two boys with their finger on the pulse of the racing scene, some amazing connections and great interviews, and heaps of enthusiasm for the sport we all love has really been one of the highlights of my year. Harry, Stu - thanks for a great season. Put your feet up and enjoy a few cold ones this winter; you've earned it. Cheers Mitch

“The one thing I reminded myself of and something my coach has been telling me all year is this: Don't feel like you have to be anybody else. What you've been doing has been working for you. Continue to do that. If you've been being Melissa all year and you've been winning all year, what else do you need to do? Just go out there and be yourself.”My guest for today's episode is Melissa Jefferson-Wooden — the 25-year-old from Georgetown, South Carolina who just pulled off one of the rarest feats in track and field: the golden sprint triple crown. At the World Championships in Tokyo, Melissa won the 100, the 200, and was part of the Team USA team that took gold in the 4x100m relay — becoming the first American woman ever, and only the second woman in history after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, to sweep the sprints at a single Worlds. Her winning times — 10.61 in the 100m and 21.68 in the 200m — weren't just dominant; they cemented her as the fourth-fastest woman of all time and within striking distance of Flo-Jo's world record. But what makes Melissa's story so special isn't just the speed. It's also the journey. If you've followed some of her career leading into 2025, she calls herself a self-described ‘village kid' who had two partial college offers. She saved her dad's life at 17 years old with a bone marrow transplant. She built herself from an NCAA champion out of Coastal Carolina to a global superstar, who can boast the title of the fastest woman on earth. In this episode, we talk about that rise, the lessons that come with greatness all throughout 2025 from her races in April through September, and how she's thinking about being one of the faces of the sport.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Melissa Jefferson-Wooden | @__melissaj19 on Instagram Produced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSHOKA: We're takin' over Happy Camper Chicago (Old Town) with HOKA during the Chicago Marathon festivities. “You almost need to just have this fearlessness towards it. You can absolutely look at what each of the athletes have done and put them up on a pedestal, but you almost have to be like, ‘They've done that, but I'm going to try and do this today.'”My guest for today's episode is Jessica Hull, who just earned her second straight global medal with a bronze in the 1500m at the World Championships in Tokyo. Hull went toe-to-toe with the greatest of all time, Faith Kipyegon, hanging on until the final 200 meters before battling all the way to the line to secure her spot on the podium.Last year was obviously a dream season for Jess — an Olympic silver medal, a 2000m world record, a 3:50 personal best. This year, she didn't always hit the same highs, but she raced with consistency, courage, and adaptability, proving she's a contender in every scenario. In Tokyo, she left it all out there, fending off a charging Nelly Chepchirchir to hang on for bronze in 3:55.16. A repeat of the disastrous tie-up that happened in the Diamond League final was avoided. In this episode, we talk about how she leveled up to get to this point, we talk about the bond shared between all of the 1500m women and the reverence and respect for Faith Kipygeon, her exploration of the 800m which saw her break the Australian record in 1:57.15 in the semifinals and then reaching the final, where she ran another 1:57.Plus, you'll learn where some of her early thoughts are on her plans for 2026.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Jessica Hull | @jessicaahull on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSHOKA: We're takin' over Happy Camper Chicago (Old Town) with HOKA during the Chicago Marathon festivities. The 2025 New York Mets rode a season of highs and heartbreaking lows — from Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor's historic 30–30 campaigns to Pete Alonso breaking the franchise home run record. But a late-season collapse, injuries to key players, and inconsistent pitching left them on the outside of the playoff picture with an 83–78 finish. In this episode of the CA Media Podcast, we break down the stats that defined the Mets' season, the biggest moments both good and bad, and the critical areas the team must address this offseason. Plus, we preview the 2025 MLB playoffs and what October baseball looks like without the Mets in it.Hashtags:#NewYorkMets #Mets2025 #MetsRecap #MLBPlayoffs2025 #JuanSoto #FranciscoLindor #PeteAlonso #MetsFans #MetsNation #EdwinDiaz #MetsOffseason #MetsCollapse #NLEast #MLBPodcast #CAMediaPodcast #MLBNews #BaseballPodcast
“I wanted to be calm, relaxed, and confident that I belonged here… Maybe I didn't get the outcome that I wanted, but I hit my goal of being calm, trying to stay low emotion, and float, follow, and relax — all of the words that I said to myself. I'm really proud of how I navigated that race.”Please welcome back to the show – the one and only Nikki Hiltz. And what a year it's been! Just a season after finishing seventh at the Paris Olympics, Nikki stepped onto the line at the World Championships in Tokyo and delivered the best outdoor global finish of their career: fifth in the 1500m. They ran 3:57.08, the top American in the final, and held their own in a race where Faith Kipyegon, Dorcus Ewoi, and Jessica Hull all ran sub-3:56 for medals.Yes, it's easy to get caught up in the medal talk that we pushed throughout the championships. That's what we do as pundits to talk about the sport. But for Nikki, it wasn't about the outcome as much as the process: staying calm, engaged, and believing in their plan lap after lap. That mindset carried them to a performance that showed just how close they are to the world's very best. Today, we talk about the lessons learned, the mantras that kept them grounded, and what it means to chase medals while staying true to the journey.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Nikki Hiltz | @nikkihiltz on InstagramProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on InstagramMentioned in this episode…Listen: Sage Hurta After Finishing 5th In The World Championships 800m Final In 1:55.89 (Third-Fastest American Ever) | Tokyo 2025 Recap + Reflections____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSASICS: The Megablast is the Mega Man of the Blast lineup.
